Seems like we are testing this on live servers.....wussup with that?

My GeForce 8800GT just died and I replaced it with a RADEON HD4670. I know currently the games is more geared torwards the Nvidia cards. Any word on wether or not the new Ultra Mode will be more ATI friendly?
-
Again, the card was bad. I've replaced it and all is well.

Quote:Thanks. I figured out is was cause my windows Xp is 32 bit. I'm getting Windows 7 next week so I should get full use of my 4GB then. Here's an artical you may want to read.
http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/...g94-reportedly
I own an Nvidia 8800 GT 512 and I crash once in a while. I count myself lucky as I bought one that had a superior cooler installed from the factory. It's served me well for 2 years. I'm no fanboy of either ATI or Nvidia, and since ATI has made some very nice improvements in their OpenGL support, my next card will prolly be one of theirs. Unless you have money to burn the HD 5870 may be a bit pricey, a good alternative would be to grab the 5850 instead. It's not all that much slower, and even when GR comes out you'll probably still be able to turn everything to max settings. If you go NVidia I'd wait for the prices to drop first. As of yet they haven't gone down much, only because the new ATI cards are a bit hard to find.
BTW,The maximum memory used by XP 32 bit is 3.25 gigs.
I'm not sure it's been mentioned, but you can use task manager to clear your memory if ya want or need. Just do the control, alt ,delete as had been mentioned. Then in the apps tab find CoHs, right click and minimize the game and then maximize it again. You've just freed up memory.
As far as the graphics card, I went with an ATI HD 4670. I got a great deal on it and it seems to be more than enough card for my needs. -
Quote:Bring up the task manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del or click on the task bar). Select the Performance tab and look at the number next to Total in the box labeled Physical Memory (K), it's in kilobytes. 2GB is 2097152.
It's just over 3.1 million. Does this mean one of my four 1GB memory sticks is either not pushed in all the way or broken? Should be over 4 million KB if all four are working correctly...right? -
How do I display my total memory? I bought two more memory sticks and stuck em in the slots, but I'm not sure they are working. How do I make sure the computer is using 4 GB now instead of the 2GB I had before?

Free artz!?! Huh..where?

I like the idea. The TP pool is boring to me. It could really use a kick the ars.
Another idea, not to thread jack, but alternate animations for TPing. All those cool costume change animations would be great. It would add alot of interest if I could burst into a firey blaze, or a puff of smoke, or super nova, or super spin, have lightning strike me, or quickly rip open a black hole and leap through, or...well the ideas are endless. -
I actually verified all files this time, then open it in safemode while monitoring it with Widows task manager. The memory usage just kept climbing and climbing. By the time the loggin page came up, it was using upto 580k and still climbing so I ended the process. Tried twice more with the same result.
Anyone know why this would be happening? Is it cause my graphix card went bad? I don't get why it would be using so much memory like that. -
Sure hope the graphics card is my problem and not something else. It's wierd cause even if I try to load the game in safe mode it immediatly freezes up and crashes.
-
Mine was awesome as well. It did great for 2 years, well almost two years. Now it decided to take a dump though, so it is time to upgrade.
-
Well I ordered my stuff today. Instead of getting an additional 2GB memory stick, I ordered two more 1GB memory sticks. This will give me a total of four 1GB memory sticks....hope that works well.
I was all set to buy the 9800GTX Nvidia 512MB card, but the geek on the other end of the line talked me into a VisionTek Radeon HD 4670 1GB instead. I know the game is currently set up to be more friendly to Nvidia, but I do believe with GR this will change. The ATI card is 1GB instead of the 512MB Nvidia card, and yet it was $40 cheaper.
I have 21 days to return anything if I don't like it. Hope I made the right selection. - -
So if I add the 2GB memory card, I should remove one of the 1024MB cards? Or do the paired cards have to be the same capacity?
-
While I'm asking questions....right now my rig has two 1024 memory cards, so 2048mb total. I have two more available slots, so would it be smart to throw a third memory card in there? Would it improve performance?

Seeing as this is the only PC game I play....should I get another Nvidia? or are the Radeon HD VisionTek better? I'm not so much worried about cost, but I want the best possible card I can put in my Dell XPS 720 without having to change the power supply or cooling system. I wanna just plug it in and play. Any recomendations?
I'm looking at the Radeon HD 3870 X2 1 GB card, but I don't know if the power supply or cooling system I have now would support it. I'm researching as much as I can, but don't see much about minimum power requirements. Is 500w that standard? Would I better off just going with the GEFORCE 9800GTX + 512MB considering this game is the only PC game I play?
Any help is greatly appreciated. -
-
Probably go with the GTX260....just worried I'll get it and then find out the problem isnt the graphix card
-
So I took the side panel off my rig and set a rather large fan right next to it....attempting to cool things down. Even doing this, I can't get my 8800GT temp below 50 celcius. Everything else stays around 30, but the card stays between 53-80. When I try to open the game it immediatly jumps to 75-80 degees celcius....even with this big fan blowing directly on it. I can't get the fanspeed program to do much besides tell me the temps. Can't seem to manually control any of the fans in the computer.
-
Thanks Gaia. I'll lookinto that when I get home. Blackscreen and rebooting is exactly what I'm getting. I tried to use the program fanspeed yesterday to manually turn the fan on high to no avail, but I'm sure I can figure it out.
-
I downloaded fanspeed and it's sating the card is running between 75-85 Celsius. Is that normal?
-
Sucks....I thought the 8800GT was a great card. I haven't even had it a year yet. So if I do replace it, which is better....GeForce GTX 260 or the GEFORCE 9800GTX?
