I haven't played many blasters in my time here, but I am planning on making a Dual Pistols/ Devices Blaster asap when Going Rogue comes out...so I'm trying to do a little research and have some questions.
Can you throw a smoke bomb walk right up to a mob undetected (with cloaking device on) lay a time bomb and trip mine, then run away and watch the mob get pwnd? If so, do the time bomb and trip mine act as thier own attacker, or do they draw aggro to you? Just wondering if this is a viable strategy on devices.
Thanks for any input or advice for what will be my first lvl 50 Blaster. -
I have a question about devices for Blasters and rather than start a new thread I thought I'd just ask here.

I really doubt they'll let us keep our Inf when switching sides. If they did, what would be the excuse for not merging the markets?

It'd probably be easier to have an option to suppress all non-self buff graphics.
[/ QUOTE ]
This. Why wait for issue 16? I'd love to have this option now. I don't really care what color it is, I prefer to see my character that I spend alot of time on looking just how I want, rather than a flaming ice cube with a forcefield. I hate when whe people buff me without asking.
A simple on/off option for non-self buffs would be great. Everyone else can see it, I just don't have to. -
My guess is when you switch sides your Inf, badges, SG/VG membership, and even your items listed on the market all stay put and still exist just waiting quietly for you to come back. This means while on the "otherside" you will have nothing and have to start from scratch.
As far as badges go though, I would think you would keep all your progress. In other words, if you already taken enough damage to have the Stoic badge villain side, you'd automaticly get the Tough badge hero side because you have met the requirment. So you'd probably have a pretty good head start on your accolades. -

Another thing Dual Pistols should have, besides quick animations and easy combos, is no grounding effect when attacking. I don't understand why any of these ranged attacks cause you to stop when your attacking, but DP should definetly allow you to keep running and jumping while firing your weapons.
[/ QUOTE ]
You probably have no idea how hard that would be to animate.
[/ QUOTE ]
I dont. All I know is it would make Dual Pistols about 1100% cooler. -
PLEASE READ
The Scrapper is a fierce melee combatant. In hand to hand, no other hero can compare. But the Scrapper is not as resilient as the Tanker, and might find himself in a little trouble if he heedlessly wades into combat. The Scrapper's aptitude for melee is countered by a total lack of distance attacks. Scrappers possess Critical Strike capability. Their melee attacks have a chance to sometimes do double damage.
Brutes live to fight, and as a Brute, you will revel in hand-to-hand combat. With strong offensive power sets designed to inflict pain and impressive defenses to take it, you're the best there is in a straight melee fight. Protracted battles only make you mad, and the madder you get, the more damaging your attacks become. You do lack ranged attacks, which could leave you vulnerable to hit-and-run tactics without allies to cover you.
Ok, so Brute is an unfortunate choice for naming the AT, as it does tend to conjur certain beastly images. However, as you can see in the descriptions above, taken directly from the little informational book that came with the games....there isn't a big difference between Brute and Scrapper. There is absolutely NO mention of Brutes being stupid beastly creatures that can only SMASH stuff.
Everytime I see someone post something along the lines of a set not being right for brutes because it is gracefull or doesn't have enough SMASh....I just wanna vomit. -
[ QUOTE ]
Why would the developers or anyone else want Heroes and Villians to have the same powers?
The uniqueness of Heroes powers vs the uniqueness of Villians powers makes things much more interesting and helps define the essence of what it means to be a Hero or Villian.
The powers shouldn't have to be the same for Heroes and Villians to have(on paper) an equal chance to win one on one fights.
IMO, it is much better to have new power sets for Heroes and Villians, than it is to just move one over to the other side. Of course that would be way more time consuming and work to get said power balanced with other primary/secondary sets of AT.
[/ QUOTE ]
No. Saying that a broadsword or katana can only used for heroic deeds, or that only villainous brutes can have electricity powers while a scrapper or tank can't is just stupid and very limiting. All melee powers should be avaialable to all melee ATs and all ranged powers should be available to all ranged ATs. It's not the power/weapon that is good or evil, it's how you the player uses that power/weapon.
That is why the Devs are proliferating in the first place. -
As long as they use dual pistols, I don't care if it's Longbow or PPD. It won't be either though, next EAT will be neutral.
-
[ QUOTE ]
No broadsword for brutes unless we get something like This
[/ QUOTE ]
I've always thought it starnge that Katana gets this but Broadsword doesn't have any ridiculously oversized swords. I'd love to see Broadsword get a few "Cloud" like swords. What would be really cool is if we dragged them behind us as we ran, instead of holding it upright all the time. -
[ QUOTE ]
I have nothing against Claws and think they should be proliferated eventually. I'd just like every other possible set to be proliferated first. Subjectively, Claws have no appeal to me on Brutes. I want something that goes thump and makes it feel like I shook the earth when I whacked someone upside the head.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just out of curiousity, do you dislike Dual Blades as well? Some folks seem to carry on this notion that brutes are all about SMASH! and shouldn't have sets like DB, Claws, Katana, Broadsword, ect. I don't share this belief obviously, just curious if that is where your coming from...
Archtypes are an unfortunate limit to put on characters IMO, but I'd say Wolverine would be more of a scrapper, while characters like Wendigo, the Pitt and even Sabretooth show more of a brutish version of claws. I don't know if there is a power set in this game that fits a brute better than claws honestly. -
BaB already said there is no way to make the current models open their hands to use finger claws....or that it was to much work. Either way, he said it won't be happening
-
[ QUOTE ]
but they have to look like the claws on the freakshow swipers
[/ QUOTE ]
That would be an awesome option for all claws sets on any AT. -
[ QUOTE ]
Conceptually, Claws is an excellent idea for a Brute. HOWEVER. I feel they would be far too overpowered. The attack rates would need to be slowed down in favor of more raw power. I think it'd have to be a different set, one that involved less... quickness. If it was a Scrapper port... no. That would be WAY too good. Maybe a sort of Broadsword to Katana thing. Same basic moves, but slower.
[/ QUOTE ]
Check your cast times bub. In reality claws is no fast than most other sets that Scrappers and/or brutes have. I know it feels fast, but your fears are unfounded and not even an issue. -
Another thing Dual Pistols should have, besides quick animations and easy combos, is no grounding effect when attacking. I don't understand why any of these ranged attacks cause you to stop when your attacking, but DP should definetly allow you to keep running and jumping while firing your weapons.
-
I think the next EAT should be neutral. Actually, I think it should be a Rogue Spy EAT that uses dual pistols to go along with issue 16. I'd go into detail, but I already made a thread about it.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Don't you think that build is a little assuming that Dual Pistols is going to be like Archery, though? What if it isn't?
I think it'd be best to make a build with only IOs in the secondary and pools, so you can expand from there once the set's powers are revealed.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not really. Some things might need tweaked, but I did a similiar build on mids using AR/Devices and was able to replicate the results. It's pretty safe to assume I'll be able to slot two ranged attacks, and AoE, and a build up/follow up of some sort. The only thing that might get me is the sniper attack. I'm not sure if DP will get a sniper attack, but I can always tweak it some more to get similar results.
Bottom line is for someone like me that really wants a DP scrapper, I should be able to make my DP blaster survivable enough that I feel a bit scrapperish.....maybe more stalkerish, but whatever. -
Some folks just don't get it. They see sets as damage type and numbers....don't care at all what it looks or feels like. I don't bother trying to convert people like this, most of all when they are trolls that just want to start arguments and take over threads. So let's hope none of those type of folks post in this thread......
Anyways, I think Brutes will get the same version of Focus as widows got, same animation with no range, but probably still KD. I think Shockwave might actually stay, but with a longer recharge and KD instead of KB. Spin will likely stay as is, but might be moved to lvl 18, and unfortunetly Eviscerate will most likely stay and be a staple of the set.
I don't care for the Strike animation, and I hate Eviscerate. So as long as Focus, Slash, Swipe, Follow Up, and Shockwave keep thier animations and a good combination of End use, damage, and recharge to make a good attack chain....I'll be a very happy camper. -
...and along comes Clouded once again, like clockwork, to bring negativity to the land and start pointless arguments, only to bicker back and forth for many, many posts and derail yet another thread is his endless tirade of forum absurdity.
-
The only weakness I see is defense debuffs, but I have enough HP that I should be able to drop a smoke bomb and caltrops and hightail it outa there is a bad situation.
I have 6 primary attcks fully slotted, becuase I usually only end up taking 5-6 primary attacks from any given set. If I only took 5, I could fit in Aid Self to heal myslef in those situations...which I'd really like to be able to do.
K....bedtime. -

Yeah, didn't think so. Thanks though.
I'm playing on Mids using Archery/Devices to see what I might be able to do with a DP/Devices. Right now I have around 30-32% defense to all, 30% resists to Sm/Le, 1540 Hp, regen 22Hp per second, with a 65% recharge bonus, 15% damage bonus, and 62% accuracy bonus. Also have the KB protection IO and the +stealth IO.
Didn't realize you could make Blasters so survivable. Using the Cloaking device along with the Smoke grenade should allow me to go anywhere and do anything I want. Throw in Eye of the Magnus accolade power now and then and this is a pretty sick build.
Are accolade powers affected by globle recharge bonuses? -
They'd lose style points too....eviscerate is teh ugly :\
-
Got all excited talking about it...now I have to share :P
I plan on rolling a DP/Devices Blaster and going rogue immediatley. Hopefully all the DP attacks will rock and I'll take them all. From devices I'll get the cloaking Device, Smoke grenade, Trip mines, and time bomb.....possibly caltrops. I'll be getting body armor from the munitions mastery pool, along with Tough and Weave. I'll be slotting Brawl with three damage procs so I can use it often. I might possibly get jumpkick if it flows well and the redraw doesn't bother me too much. Then I'll slot IO sets to max out my recharge, regen, and max HP. I've messed around on Mids using AR/Devices....and I think I can make a pretty tough Blaster with good survivability.
Very excited!
I'm not very educated on Blasters...can anyone tell me if you can use Cloaking Device and the Stealth toggle at the same time?
