  1. Honestly, the reason I want Broadsword is because I like the customization options better, but that feels like a silly reason, and having played a Katana scrapper before it definitely makes Broadsword feel slow as all get out.

I guess I just want an outside opinion.
  2. Welp, group has been assembled. It's only 6 so far instead of the intended 8, but I believe it's all we'll need. So far the group make-up is as follows:

3 Demon/Time (One of which is Reppu)
    1 Demon/Dark
    1 Demon/Storm
    1 Demon/Thermal (Myself!)

    Rules are as follows:

    1) Demon Pet powers and Upgrades MUST be taken when appropriate
    2) Maneuvers must be taken at level 8
    3) Aside from that, pick as you please

So far with just the Ember Shield-stack alone, S/L and Fire resists are hard-capped for pets, and that's BEFORE Thermal's shields. MM resists rank well into 60%+ range.

With Six Maneuvers, 3 Farsights, and 3 Time's Junctures, Defense is basically softcapped (in TJ's case, by virtue of the -To-hit debuffing)

I can easily see us laying waste to TFs. It's a few degrees shy of ridiculous. I haven't even gotten into the Damage bonuses from Hell on Earth coupled with 6 layers of Assault.

However, picking out the proper PPPs is going to be a bit more difficult. The DS/TMs are likely going for Mace Mastery for Power Boost, but as for me (the Thermal) I'm not sure. I'm leaning towards Mu or Leviathan.

Basically, yes. It's a game-wide factory reset. For everyone complaining, to be perfectly honest it is INFINITELY easier to simply do a game-wide sweep rather than pick through individual player accounts to see who qualifies and who doesn't.

Besides, 50 merits isn't a terrible thing and if you were someone who was really into farming for tips for AMerits this isn't going to put a huge dent in your schedule, simply set it back a day or two.

There's been no red name posts clarifying matters. No mention of the fact that even someone who's gained an A-Merit through the tip system has to run it again to be eligible, and no MOTD in game noting to people the change (because not everyone reads patch notes.)

Instead now people are discovering it isn't working the way it is, are posting on the boards and probably submitting bug and petition reports to support, and are getting conflicting information from support as to just what needs to be done.
Well, to be honest, perhaps it's not an exploit so much as it was, "We didn't intend to have the rewards handed out in this fashion." If they want the merits to tie into the Alignment system (I should remind folks that both SSAs and Alignment are things that F2Ps and Premiums have to buy!) then making it a pre-requisite that you had to be a confirmed (aka, 10 tips + Morality) Hero/Villain makes perfect sense.

Sure, it's annoying, but it makes sense. As for the fact there's no warning...honestly, if folks AREN'T reading the patch notes that's not the dev's fault. I'm surprised folks DON'T check after patches to see what has/hasn't changed as a matter of routine/principle.

I do think that the "confirmed" status needs to be fixed, as several of my characters HAVE confirmed their Hero/Villain Status, but according to comments aren't eligible because they've reset whatever data-flag marks for alignment confirmation.
  5. Edit: Just learned the SSAs are in fact on a shared cooldown, rendering my entire post a moot point. I feel like an idiot now.

Step 3: Run first SSA arc twice; buy Miracle +recovery; email to yourself; go back to Step 1

    PROFIT
This. It's basically ridiculously easy to get those expensive low-level IO Procs which go on the market for hundreds of millions of inf. Heck, if you're willing to grind a little longer you can get your hand on the level 25 LotG Global Recharge, or Numina's if you push to 27 or 30. Solo this is harder, with a good farming friend this takes, as mentioned before, just a few minutes.

I doubt the devs intended to saturate the market with AMerits. Heck, I was noting to a friend the other day how the ease with which you can earn AMerits through the SSAs (Each part of the Arc grants you 2 merits for the first two times you run, that's FOURTEEN AMerits once all 7 parts are out) and how it'll be disturbingly easy to get those expensive IOs.

I'm pretty sure at some point the devs had the same thought and realized this wasn't the intended outcome.
  7. Incarnate Trial with Maelstrom as the main villain? That'll be interesting. My guess is it won't be a 12-24 sized league given we're just sneaking onto a campus.

Also, MORE abilities is awesome, but man most of my 50s already have T3/T4s on everything and now you're tossing MORE at us? So unfair!

Naw, it's cool, it's like the Lore update with 20.5, which was awesome.

  9. My friends have insisted that I try and get this arc advertised out due to the wide-sweeping enjoyment people seem to have with it. So here's a little shameless plugging for people out there looking to play an Arc with an on-going STORY and one that's gotten even Beastyle and Freitag talking!

    Arc Name: The Directive
    Author: @Issen1 (That's me!)
    Story Status: On-going
    Chapters: 4
    Length: 4-5 missions per arc
Level Range: Tiered; Part 1 is 15-25, Part 2 is 25-30, Part 3 is 35-40, and Part 4 is 35-44
Minimum Party Size: I recommend at least 6-8 people, this is MEANT for teams, just don't play at +4/x8 unless you really enjoy that sort of thing.

Description: The Directive is a story that I started writing shortly after the Praetorian Surge event that began back in May (back when I first joined CoX), and has been continuing ever since. I received quite a bit of praise for it's combination of story-telling and challenge, especially the infamous "Server Crash Party" in the first part.

It details the discovery of a sinister organization who showed up seemingly out of nowhere, and have the resources and power to make even Crey and Malta shiver in their uniforms. The story demands that you pay attention to dialog, briefings and clues, and is very word-heavy, so be sure you're ready to do some serious RPing and reading while you play.

    Tell me what you think!

Note: Search using my Global, since you can find all the currently published Directive Arcs at once.
  10. I've seen maybe ONE post that notes the game is NOT balanced around IOs, so regardless of the preferences people have as to which IO sets a move should accept, it's most likely NOT going to change.

The moves acts like a TAoE attack, even if it is melee. This is (from what I've seen in the U-stream and the guide posted up) the intended effect. Which means it's functioning exactly the way the devs wanted it to.

So Spinning Strike won't take the sets you'd rather it take. Does it make it any less useful of a move?

    Nope.

  12. I'm aware this is a mechanical discussion. What I'm trying to say is, there comes a point where extra Recharge goes to waste.

And yes, I'm saying that taking all seven attacks and skipping Hasten is a perfectly legitimate and worthwhile option, though it depends largely on the set you're playing. Energy Aura I believe is such a secondary where Hasten likely is completely skippable. While I know many, many players consider it a standard to go for perma-hasten, on a powerset with a move whose primary function is to go with defense (which allows for copious LotG use), and a power specifically fueling recharge...that Hasten isn't necessary for the build to function.

A build might or might not benefit, but in this instance it's certainly not a pre-requisite. Especially with Street Justice, since it's already a fast-charging set to begin with.
  13. Starved for power slots? Maybe. But I don't think Hasten is necessary on an Energy Aura Scrapper whose already going for heavy recharge and has Force-Feedbacks.

But then I don't often solo stuff, and a LOT of these builds I see look like things you'd solo on.
  14. You have a point as well, I suppose, but on my StJ/EA scrapper I'm not exactly lacking for slots anywhere at the moment (All my attacks have 3 slots atm, level 22, and my defense powers have about 3 slots so far).

If it was WP, I could see being starved for slots. But right now I see no compelling reason to skip Initial Strike.

As for taking FF out of Heavy Blow...actually, I could see a reason for keeping it there. On my current build I don't have Hasten, reason being that I'm taking everything from the primary from Confront, everything from the secondary save Overload (I don't like panic buttons or the crash), and Spring Attack. By putting an FF proc in Sweeping Strike, Heavy Blow, and Spring Attack, there's pretty good chances it'll proc. While obviously it can't proc more than once at the same time, it's STILL good chances considering Heavy Blow recharges super quick and Sweeping Strike/Spring Attack are both AoEs.
  15. Well, what if you weren't using Hasten (yes, I know, blasphemy).

I've got a Street Justice/Energy Aura build I'm working on which doesn't include Hasten, so I'm wondering if I should use Musculature or Spiritual.
  16. Alright, I've got an arc that's actually part of an ongoing story I'm doing over on Virtue, so far I've been getting rave reviews:

Title: The Directive (Chapter 1, 2, and 3)
    Author Global: @Issen1
Arc ID: (Don't have them on me right now)
Keywords: Ideal for Teams, Challenging, Custom Characters
Length: Between 4-5 missions per part
    Morality: Heroic
    Enemy Groups: Custom
Difficulty Level: High (It's for teams, preferably full teams!)
Estimated Length: Between 2-3 hours for the entire series
Description: This ongoing story-arc details the rise of a new organization lurking in Paragon, discovered accidentally by one man's contact from his younger years working as a CIA agent. Now this sinister group has it's eyes set on Paragon's finest as they work to keep themselves and their goals hidden from the eyes of the law.

    Notes:

    - This Arc is meant to be run with a team, the bigger the better.
    - Arcs are level-tiered to give a sense of progression. It was done this way based on the levels that I played this arc at when I first made them.
    - Read the briefings and the clues! Much of the story is in the clues and dialog, so be sure to read it!

    Give me your feedback!

I notice you took all the combo builder powers (Initial Strike, Heavy Blow, Rib Cracker and Shin Breaker). They all have a quick recharge especially with IO's and I would consider dropping one of them. If you are using them as mules for Kinetic Combat, consider putting them into Boxing or Brawl. With the extra power choice, go with Fast Healing as it also provides Regen Debuff Resistance.
Actually, I'd argue that taking all the combo builders is a very good option for StJ characters for one very good reason: If you miss on your finisher. Unlike Dual Blades, your combo isn't broken by missing, and since combo level refreshes everytime a builder connects, Initial Strike (the one builder most commonly skipped) is great to toss out to keep your Combo Level at 3.

I won't argue that it's not skippable or otherwise something you could respec out of if you wanted to, I just don't see a reason to do it personally.
  18. I noticed you use Musculature, as opposed to Spiritual. Any particular reason?

And btw I've NEVER (and I can bet others will chime in on this, especially those who started on COV) though of Brutes as Tanks. EVER.

Also there was once a time where the developers noted that MMs were the ones that were meant to be COV's tanks. NOT BRUTES!

So no, the current character classification in game ARE NOT AT ALL WELCOME. But I'm not going to complain too loudly about them. THEY SHOULD NOT BE BROUGHT TO THE FORUMS. Leave the AT forums as is.

Thankfully Zwill seems to be getting this.
The other suggestions Zwil suggested I'm down for.
Eh, whatever. I respect Arcanaville's opinions, and after reading his post, I can see where he's going with it. I guess I'll just be the voice of the minority who liked the idea Zwill had.

Everything else Zwill suggested is meh. I don't use a vast majority of the other forums. I would suggest that either people make new guides for the power sets or that the old ones get taken down. As it stands, several of them are outrageously outdated.

It (intentionally or not) creates an official playstyle for each AT. Considering how very open ended in playstyle each AT can be, this is a very bad thing.
But if you look at the character creation, the classes themselves are arranged by such playstyles. Brutes ARE listed as a Tanker class. Corruptors are ranged damage. Dominators are support for the same reason Controllers are (Mezzes are support).

While the ATs are indeed flexible (and I won't deny that!) it's obvious NCSoft/Paragon believes that at their core, they have an intended role and/or function. It doesn't mean they can't do other things (I've seen Tankers fulfilling DPS roles and of course there's Blappers and Tankerminds), but they have a role they were meant to fill.

For veterans, yes, it's confusing because we all know this information. But for people either new to CoX or heck, new to MMOs, it would be much easier for them to start with the established roles, and then branch out.
  21. I think a merge of the AT forums in the manner Zwill suggested is a great idea. The idea is to make the forums so you do NOT have to scroll down through a bunch of stuff. I believe what Zwill was suggesting went something like:

    Main Forum
    Subforum
    • Tankers
      Brutes/Tanks
    • Melee DPS
      Scrappers/Stalkers
    • Ranged DPS
      Blasters/Corruptors
    • Support
      Defender/Controller/Dominator
    • HEAT/VEAT
      Kheldians/Arachnos

(Yes I know, left out Masterminds, this is just an example)

Exactly HOW is this more confusing? It seems rather simple to navigate. It would be the same as before which ATs keeping their own subforums like they have now, just be divided into categories.

If half of my power set is dedicated to buffing and debuffing, am I going to look in Ranged Damage, or Support?
Uhhh...Brutes can tank, very well actually. Where is there a consensus that Brutes are not a Tanker-type AT?

And again, the point is CONSOLIDATION. If you have ATs appearing in multiple different sub-forums, people aren't necessarily going to know where to go to find information about their particular AT or power-combo.

You can keep all the existing forums, just have them available inside each parent category instead of bloating the frontpage.
This image is actually what I assumed Zwill was proposing. You have the larger categories that encompass the ATs (Melee DPS, Ranged DPS, etc, etc), and then when you click on that category, you have the option to click on the specific AT you want. As long as it's made very clear which ATs are in which category, as listed in the mock image Commander came up with.

As for people having problems with how the ATs are categorized: The new system in freedom is perfectly fine. Brutes can be BOTH tanks and melee DPS (for example, when you select the playstyle) And I don't see how arranging them in that fashion would be confusing.

The only confusing part would be if say the same AT appeared in multiple categories. If I wanted to look for a Brute build, and saw Brutes in both Melee DPS and in Tanks, where would I look? Now you might say that's simple, just pick the one based on your playstyle. But if I'm a new player with absolutely no prior experience, it could be confusing. Is my particular powerset combo more a tanking build or a DPS build?

Besides, Tanks can't have a sub-category all to themselves.

I would suggest that the EATs recieve their own category, however. It's a fairly exclusive set of ATs, and as long as each one has their own subforum, it should be fine.

I'm completely in agreement with the consolidation.

EDIT: One problem I have with the image Commander posted is how the ATs are arranged in their sub-forums. Try to keep multiple instances of ATs OUT of categories, or else new players will likely wind up jumping all over the AT Forum trying to find what they want. As long as the AT they're looking for is in ONE place, all the information they need will be available to them.

Aka, Kheldians and Arachnos should NOT appear in three different categories.
  24. But, even if we knew in advance, it wouldn't change anything. We'd still have a long downtime and people would still be complaining.

Simply knowing it's coming sooner doesn't change the situation.

What's your definition of "well in advance", because a day before is pretty good notice. Also, we don't know what sort of schedule they're on or how they operate. Maybe it WAS last minute and they didn't know beforehand.

Assumptions folks. You all know what they do.
