More is better. I have more concepts in my brain than I know what to do with, so different powersets allows me to explore those.
What I really DON'T like are powersets that are basically retreads of previous ones. (Time Manipulation is essentially Gravity Control, for instance. Titan Weapons seems to basically be a larger version of Broadsword, from what I can see.) That's one reason why Staff Fighting is exciting: it's different enough from other powersets to feel like a whole new playstyle. -

I must be missing something, because I can't get the new NPCs to give me the missions. They don't tell you why, either. Do you have to be a VIP or something?

Quote:As I said earlier, the "massive" part just means people are on at the same TIME, not on the same TEAM.MMORPG does mean teaming.* Not 100% of the time, not even most of the time, or even frequently, if that's your preference.
Quote:But I don't know how to say it any clearer. There is a difference between asking the developers to cater to people who like to solo (which is reasonable) and asking the developers to cater to people who only solo (which is not).
Quote:Contrary to how others wish to redefine the genre, it does not mean, "A single-player game in which other players are merely background decorations to see between missions." In order to fully experience the game, including perks that from time to time you're probably going to think you have to have, you are going to have to team up. I'm sorry if you think this is a terrible thing, but again, it's an MMORPG. You should have known.
Quote:If you're able to enjoy the game without the perks that come through teaming, then by gummy, you have my blessing. Because City of Heroes is a solo-friendly game, it's very possible to do so. But yeah, it does bother me when people come here and constantly post requests to destroy one of the main draws of the game, the team-oriented experience.
Teaming is a preference; nothing more, nothing less. As mentioned upthread, in the entirety of these three games (City of Heroes, City of Villains and Going Rogue) there is but one, solitary mission that is solo-only. Everything else -- EVERYthing -- is designed for teams. There are even side missions such as Task Forces, Strike Forces, Respec Trials, Hamidon Raids and Mothership Raids which can be completed ONLY through teaming. Plus, you get more rewards much faster when you team than when you solo.
And that's fine.
What is NOT fine is the major new end-game stuff being gated by team-only mechanics. THAT goes against the spirit of he game, by locking the cool shiny stuff that paying customers have been waiting for YEARS to be added behind a giant gate marked "Teams Only."
Raiding is on the way out. Forced teaming is on the way out. CoH suddenly adopting these moronic practices is a backward step that leaves money on the table.
I unsubscribed because my computer physically can't play these giant slideshows and because they simply aren't fun. Even people who like them the first time don't like them the hundredth time. The solution is not, "buy a better computer," because I have that money earmarked for other things, and I have expenses most of you don't. But I would gladly pay $15 a month if I could play the Incarnate stuff solo, and I'm willing to bet there are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of others who feel that way, too.
So catering to people who think like you is bad business and bad community spirit. -
Quote:It's weird that you would recognize him from a CC on Freedom, since he's on Infinity. However, due to the popularity of my costumes in-game and via my "Alt Alphabet" thread in the Media sub-forum, I know that a number of people have borrowed some of my designs. I even ran into a virtual clone of Future Shock on a different server.Do X ?
Was joking with Panda...I just thought it was funny cause I recognize him still. Probably held that CC two or three weeks ago or something. Just remember there was a very large turn out.
I don't know what you mean by "come up to my level" either. -
Quote:Here's my response to that: RE-SUB.Hi Folks,
First of all, thanks for taking the time to provide us your input on the upcoming Retro Sci-Fi costume set! Dink has been looking forward to making this set, and just so you know, youll probably get a couple of bonus items in addition to the ones you voted for.
Without further ado, heres what were planning to build and why! -
Quote:Yes. Get out, you freak. My bios range from the lengthy to the short.
For example my Goo character (Gelatinous Ruse) has this as it's bio.
Quote:It comes from outer space!
...It seeks only to Devour!
...It could be anyone, your brother, your sister, even YOU!
Beware the coming of the GELATINOUS RUSE!
That tells you very little about the character but I think it works.
Others, like my namesake, have a lot more backstory detail.
Does that make me weird?
And what I mean by that is, of course, "One of us! One of us!"
At this point I'm just showing off and over-sharing, but here are my non-story characters. The one for Space-Monkey is a theme song that (in my head) sounds similar to the theme of Teen Titans.
I do not have a problem. Shut up. -
::: dumbstruck :::

...medic!
Thanks, Alex! That's beyond gorgeous. -
Quote:I have tons of those. I consider it a challenge to weave an original story into the game's lore. Sometimes I play it straight, sometimes I have fun with it.Now I have to admit to being curious... for those folks who've made characters that are very heavily steeped in COH's lore, how about posting the character's bio here? (The short form, only 1023 character version that we're allowed in the game) You can post a screenshot of it if you want.

Quote:This is so true it's supertrue.Seriously. 'Being able to see what I'm buying before I buy it' is a pretty basic piece of functionality for an on-line store.
I was under the impression from the official roll-out of CoH: Freedom and the attendant market that we would be able to preview everything before we bought it. Turns out that's not true at all. I bought a couple things that I wouldn't have had I known what they were really like, and the end result of that is simple: I'm not interested in buying anything else.
I shouldn't have to go anywhere other than the game itself to see what's in the game. -
You need to be more extroverted and interact with people. Even the pantsless need friends.

Quote:Here's a short story for you: YOUR OPINION IS NOT FACT.Just being honest here but was playing on Virtue lately and realize that no one knows how to write a character story. Motivation for this thread was made when debating someone who wanted there to be more room for their character stories. While I guess I am fine with that.. seriously I dont see the problem in explaining a character with the space given. Its irrelevant anyway since no ones going to read your character story if its a long novel.
Example:
GOOD CHARACTER STORY
1:Genectically engineered to be the ultimate destroyer, Coldar is a powerful villain who wields the cold of space..............
2: The Impervious Hard Man is a destructive villain that is completely invulnerable to physical damage and possesses immense strength and endurance. No known substance on Earth can penetrate his skin...................................
3: 8-Ball is evil cause he makes money selling crack to children.......................................... ............ (Actual bio of a former player on Champion)
BAD CHARACTER STORY
1: When he was 7 Henry enjoyed watching cartoons at his moms house............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ..................his parents were killed............................................ .................................................. ...............................he made a costume .................................................. ............................................he became a hero called General Justice........................................... ........................ now he protects the city.
2: I was sick of all the widespread crime in my neighborbood. When I was younger the gangs would harass me and my friends .................................................. ................................................. ...... the toxic waste gave me power .............. ........ .......... I no longer recognized myself in the mirror.......... I killed a gang member not knowning my own strength. ......... I ...blah blah blah. .................YAWN
People dont understand, especially on Virtue, that no one wants to read a novel so if your character isnt summarized quickly in your bio like an Encyclopedia article...its worthless cause no ones going to read pass the first 3 sentences unless it grabs their attention. Sorry Virtue ...
EDIT: Also put spaces in your story for each paragraph. No one wants to read a big block of text.
Also, those examples you gave as "good" are genuine crap. If I saw those in the game, I'd roll my eyes and think, "Amateur."
Why don't you show us screenshots of your character bios and we'll tell you all the ways they are fundamentally broken. Trust me, if the examples you've given there as "Good" are really what you consider to be exemplary storytelling, all of your bios are junk. -

Whichever one is chosen, please, please, please make one of the options REFLECTIVE SILVER.
-
I'm hoping that all 3 (with multi-coloring options) will be added, just the way the Halloween helmet had different options.
Also cool would be the ability to make it tintable (for your underwater heroes walking on land, or ammonia-breathing aliens visiting Earth) including making it opaque.
-
Quote:I, too, voted for B, but D is definitely a contender. I agree with you about C.B is so classic! But I do really like D too. C has a certain cute charm but I think it'd be too subtle.
What would be really cool is not just the ability to change the color of each part of the guns, but also have the FX team add glows and stuff to them. B lends itself to this the best, I think. Those three rings could pulse one after the other. Coloring that would be so amazing.
Really hoping they make a couple of these rather than just one. -

See my other post: huge swaths of the game -- including almost the entirety of the end-game content -- are expressly marked "teams only." You quite literally can't even get in the door to some of it without a team.
So protestations on that topic are hard to take seriously on any level.
Quote:Oh, and FYI, the game is *NOT* 100% 'teamable'.
I have characters designed expressly *for* team support and they have teamed up for every bit of their journey through the game, including the (original) tutorial. In fact, one of my Defenders went for years with only two attacks: Brawl and the default one you get at creation. He can't stand up to a stiff breeze without at least one teammate. -
Quote:What the heck are you blathering about? The entire game is geared towards teaming. 98% of the end-game content is ONLY team content. (And in reality the amount of time you have to invest in end-game content is more like 99.9999% team play. Only a couple little things at the Incarnate intro are soloable, and those you finish within a few minutes .)But every time one of these threads comes along, there is a small contingent of people--and they're the same ones every time--who insist that the game MUST cater to their play style, a solo-only play style that most people do not adopt and which is not conducive to the genre of game City of Heroes is. When people like me point out that around 90%-95% of the game is soloable and us teamers like having some content and things to do set aside for us, we're called everything but red-headed stepchildren (and sometimes worse), treated like we are the ones who are being pig-headed and inflexible.
One of the great strengths of CoH has always been that one can solo large swaths of it, which allows you to take the time to do things at your own pace and savor the game. But there is a large amount of content gated to soloers: virtually all of the end-game, every TF and SF, respec trials, Hamidon and Mothership raids... as well as other stuff I can't think of offhand because I rarely do them.
I don't see anyone demanding solo content in lieu of team content, merely the addition of solo stuff alongside the important content (Incarnates) gated behind team-only design. -
I think you need to double-check the stamp on your Portal Corp travel voucher, because that hasn't been the case for the City of Heroes game in THIS universe.
-
Same here. I wish I could respec half my toons into WP.
Primaries:
Scrappers: Dual Blades; it's just such a freakin' beautiful ballet of death.
Brutes: Electricity; teleporting while riding lightning and doing massive damage.
Blasters: Fire; because of the snipe alone. OMG.
Stalker: Ninja Blade; sneaky thrill-killer.
Tanker (secondary, I know): Energy Melee; wham, bam, go to jail, ma'am.
Defender: Kinetics; talk like a god, walk like a god.
Probably a tie between Dual Blades and Blaster Fire for all-time fave. -

Quote:Succinctly (and brilliantly) put.I confess my character adhere to the improbable aging of comics- they age based on story, not time, and along different timelines than anything else. Some have an excuse, some do not.
Quote:One character is effectively immortal, discovering as a young adult that she could absorb the psychic energy of desires, dreams and ambition from enemies to further her own power and life. As such, she did grow up but never began to degenerate. That puts her at a forever 25ish, though living on psychic energy has turned her into a being of mental manifestation with time.
Others have no excuse..one is a mastermind boy who has been a boy for 6+ years running. To me it's a story thing, and aging is only used as a plot point rather than an inescapable force affecting all life. Heck, there is nothing doing it to the rest of the town, so there's little reason for my characters to be subject to time in such a divergent way.
