Players figured out which power selections worked best and you end up with a player base that were carbon copies of each other. devs would try to 'patch' so after every update, the build of the month changed.
So even if the devs implemented this customization you speak of, you would still be back here complaining about balance.
Well, people would still complain, but they wouldn't complain about imbalance. -

you are correct. I made 2 mistakes in my estimation.
First, I lumped all non-weapon melee as super strength. While lots have it, martial arts and other types of melee are common. And super strength does not cover the style of a lot of characters.
And the ranged attacks do add up.
So I withdraw my claim, and have instead a challenge.
For any comic book staples besides punching (super strength, martial arts, or otherwise) list the powerset and name 10 characters in Marvel or DC that use that powerset.

Why, I recall when we had to sprint to Atlas Park -- and it was uphill! Both ways! You kids today with your fancy flying jetpacks have no idea how hard it was back in the day. -

I've only seen the first season via Netflix. It is humorous to see people who haven't read the books posting their reactions. The outrage over a certain character's death was hilarious... especially knowing what's going to happen to everyone else. -

I'm never affected this way. Whenever a favorite or likable character is killed off all I see is the attempt to add gravity and emotion to the story. I never feel that emotion though; just annoyance that they've killed off a good character for shock value.
Maybe I'm just being a stick-in-the-mud, but it always strikes me as the easiest, most boring and unimaginative way to add depth to your story. Every time it comes up I just roll my eyes in frustration. -

My VG Vermin -- Slaughtermouse, Monkeywench, Battlesnake and Varmint -- needed a heavy hitter, so I dusted this bad boy off. Crocogator is character I created way back in the mid-80s and the name has always amused me.

I have very mixed feelings about this. I have hoped for and dreaded this set coming out. I have a character who at the moment uses a Vanguard (?) katana, which represents her focusing her mental energy into a physical blade. I wanted to have her be mental/ psionic melee and that was as close as I could come. Guess I will be remaking her now... (provided the set is good).
Of course, I think any day ending in a Y is a good excuse for another alt. :P -
So people can compare against the shiny (heh) case collection, Amazon's page for the Avengers has an excellent table (scroll down) of what each version of the package includes. I wish all releases were so well laid-out so we could make informed choices.

You know, I can't even recall if I have an Electric Blaster left. Surely there must be one, but I'll bet I haven't played him in 6 or 7 years. I seem to recall they were broken in some way... perhaps whatever leeching they did.
Mostly I make Willpower Brutes and Scrappers these days, because they're the most fun to play. -

I really don't see the issue with it, though. The only thing I can see happening with it is people getting the bonuses for bases. Big whoop. As these discussions keep revealing, bases are broken and hated, and you'd only get enough prestige to buy a lamp to go with your chair. Which you can't even sit on.
I honestly can't even recall the last time I was in any of the bases in any of the SGs I'm in. It has to be at least 3 or 4 years, easily. -

I would be satisfied with being able to email Super Group invites so you can invite your own characters without having to bribe players to join just to do invites or convincing someone to drop their SG, join yours do invites then get a join back into their own again.
For those of us who like creating characters this is very annoying.
Tangential to bases, however, would be having your offline characters walking around doing stuff in the base. Maybe have some show up on monitors, fighting in space or attending a costume contest in Atlas. -
Or over-Dew it.
