I might be able to help you out, gratis. Do you have links to the other bios? PM me if you prefer to keep it on the down-low.
  3. There's a reason why this topic is provoking such heated responses in some people -- we're hardwired to respond to color.

I think the key to any good costume design boils down to two things:

    1) Character concept
    2) Color theory

Some colors clash, some are natural complements. Thing is, each of us perceives color and texture differently. For me, simpler is better. It's rare that I find an overly detailed costume attractive. They look too "busy" to me.

But some colors go together naturally and evoke certain universal responses. Red+Black is a natural combo, as is Purple+Gold. Yellow+Black is evocative of danger, while Red+White evokes thoughts of passion, as well as speed and recklessness. Blue is calming, and Green tends to be soothing.

There's a reason why "Caution" and "Warning" signs are Yellow+Black or Red+White. Italian restaurants used Red and white checked tablecloths because it urges people to eat faster. Which means faster turnaround on tables. Jails are painted blue to calm prisoners. Red+Black entices us with danger and desire, while Purple+Gold inspires feelings of leadership and trustworthiness.

Sometime we respond to colors without really knowing why. Some of this stuff is hardwired into us. Colors speak to the same primitive part of our brain that responds to things like music. For some reason, minor chords make us feel sad or melancholy. Even people who have never heard a minor chord before report feeling the same way.

Interestingly, we each have a built-in concept of what a "pure" color is. Psychologists have done tests on aboriginal peoples (like islanders on Kuala Lumpur and tribespeople of the Amazon) who have never seen "pure" colors. They show these people various shades of red, for instance, asking which one is the "ideal" color. Amazingly, even though they've never seen those particular shades before, they will choose the exact same color red that anyone from the Western world will choose.

So there's definitely something primal going on here regarding color and specific color combinations, and why certain choices spark lively debate.
  4. That is an excellent guide -- good job!

I like Upbeat music. Most player-made CoH videos have deathmetal and screaming D:

Trudat. I cannot stand that deathmetal crap. Your choices were so much better!

    2 years old today!

Seems like it was just yesterday that I was rolling up my Robots/Force Field Mastermind on Virtue, then re-rolling him 4 hours later when I realized I spelled his name wrong.

Just to head this off at the pass, there is no Anniversary badge for CoV 2 years... we want to get to a point where we only celebrate ONE anniversary a year, like normal folks.

    Happy Birthday, CoV.

I killed you a hero, but I eated it.

Aequitas or Equitus (Latin for "justice")

    Arma (Latin for "waepons/arms")

    Arma Vex (sounds vaguely demonic)

Here's my take, switching from positive to negative space in the design.

    You stole my KittyKittyBangBang!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Eh, nope. I made Kitty after someone posted a "Help me name my character" thread last year, and that was one name I suggested for their AR blaster. I liked it enough that I have made and deleted a few instances since then to clear space on my main server.

I was being facetious. However, mine was made in 2004, re-rolled in '05 when CoV was released.
  18. All kidding aside, my interest is piqued. What plays rar files? Zloth's demo editor?
  19. [ QUOTE ]
    Yeah, considering how many times I had to go back and tweak, manually writing all of these would have taken me years. After the scene is set, all of the movement is done inside a loop; one section calculates where each soldier is at any given frame, one determines where the camera is, another how the camera faces and so on. About two thirds of the time spent on the demo weren't writing or compiling it, but actually waiting for the client to load so I could test it out. {coughneedinclientdemoloadingcough}

To Torroes, I'm using a program called AutoIt, though for this type of thing it might be more efficient if I finally got around to learning a programming language. As it is, the whole script is about three hundred lines long; almost all of the crowds are randomly generated and since the soldiers move at a steady pace of 0.1 unit per 25ms it's simple to calculate where each one is; as far as they are concerned, the biggest problem was working out the slope angles.

And as for what it's for... well, wouldn't you like to know?
