  1. Rylas, heh. I had a nap, I feel better.

Anyway, here's the other thread: City of Creators.
  2. In a downtown minute.

The person who makes a superhero RPG sandbox that has the coolness of CoH would be the person who made the last game I would ever play.

I totally forgot about that! Yeah, the game has the single worst game mechanic ever created: open world quests. Stand in line to kill something and instant re-spawns and health re-fills. I wouldn't be surprised that adding those to CoH is what kept people away.

And it softened the difficulty level of critters substantially, giving the developers more freedom in that area.
I hate blocking because it rarely seems to work properly even in single-player games. In MMOs with a bit of lag and a soupcon of latency, they kill. So for me, CO's blocking actually *increased* my level of difficulty.
  5. We're talking about this in another thread. Join us.

(I'd link to it, but I ate too many ice cream drumsticks so can't think properly.)
  6. My SG on Pinnacle is named "Big Damn Heroes."

I re-upped SPECIFICALLY for the pepperoni-and-banana-peppers pizza with extra cheese (Blaster enhancements), so this leaves me particularly hungry. And out a fair bit of money, too. It won't break me, but it's still my money.
  10. I used to work as an editor at Lexis-Nexis. There are two things that determine your case: who the judge is and how much money you have. It is my considered opinion that a lawsuit of any kind is a non-starter.

Well, we won't be playing this any more. Let's do it. Your husband can do at least 5 voices.
  12. Here was my general outline of the CoH movie I was goofing around with just for fun:

Newbie hero comes to town. (In my outline, he's literally called Noob.) He's a magic-user and gets in on the Omega Team thing when the Rikti attack. I had a lot of overly-cutesy dialogue that needed to be fixed, but the structure was Superhero Movie 101 -- new hero comes to town, acts as the stand-in for the audience, learns the ropes, finds a motivation truer than the one he showed up with, many heroes get killed during Rikti invasion, Noob decides to make the ultimate sacrifice because he's one of the few who can do it, remaining heroes clean up and honor the fallen and missing.

Throughout there are hints of what's to come, such as a Vanessa De Vore having a mask collection, a few people ending up missing, Dr. Vahzilok working so hard to save dying heroes that he has an emotional breakdown... all to set up the sequel that features the Carnies, Dr. Vahzilok doing his undead shtick and a full-on zombie invasion, culminating in Hero 1's return.

It was pretty rough, but I think it had some decent enough bones to it.

I originally had "smothered us with a pillow" as the second half, but I felt you can't really top Sunset Boulevard when it comes to dead narrators.

I'm a character builder -- most of the joy of these games, to me, comes in designing a unique character and seeing it develop to its ultimate potential. I've made two characters that I deleted at level 6, and two more that I've continued with (a level 10 Mind and a level 8 Glacier). I've also been researching the freeform method, thinking that I might buy one of those slots. As far as I can tell so far, the CO character system is loaded with cruft and unnecessary complications while the game itself is childishly arcade-like.

You pick one to three Super Stats (SS), but you have to keep some of your other stats up, because they affect your combat and recovery. Some of the powers you choose are linked to stats so those stats must be kept high. You select powers, preferably aligned with your SS. Then you select training, specialization, and equipment; all of which just adds to your stats, and you're almost always going to want it to add to your SS.

After doing all of that, you mash one button until you get enough energy to mash your spike damage power. Repeat. Sometimes, you must block.

Champions Online has a character system that is much more complex than CoX, for gameplay that is barely one step above Donkey Kong.

The complexity of that character building appeals to me, but I want choices that matter and I need gameplay to require some strategy. In a multi-player game I want team play to require some tactical choices. I raged about the incarnate system in CoX because it removed team tactics and character roles; CO doesn't have them at all, from level 1 up.
    This is an excellent summation.

Lord, do I ever hate blocking.

The artistic design is another discussion. Let's just say that ADHD poodles should not be given access to 3D design tools. I could overlook the look, however, if the game underneath appealed to me.
Sadly, there's no toggle power in CO for "turn off the fugly."

  20. NCSoft is the lovely person we married who then cheated on us and finally left us, taking all our stuff with them. Good then does not equal good now, if you know what I mean.

Dude, they lost their jobs. Have patience. Lots of us just spent a ton of money on subs; it's up to NCSoft to make the refunds.
