Let's be generous. It may simply have been anger and/or stupidity, rather than actual attempted fraud.

I think it's more like 800,000 people in New York State alone that got their power shut off by NCSoft yesterday. It's an outrage!

I did Polaris earlier today. The team had 2 people who were competent and had a sense of humor. One person that was extremely helpful and had good advice. And one absolute jerk.

I warned the team before we started that I had been playing for less than 10 days and that I had never set foot in that dungeon before. Despite this, they wanted me to tank (I had a tank build and over 1200 HP more than the next highest). When I failed to somehow anticipate the special attack of a unique boss that I had never seen or heard of previously, the jerk started calling me names. Because, you know, hurling insults usually helps to clarify tactics.

The helpful person tried to get them to shut up and sent me some amusing tells. One went something like, "Don't pay attention to him. It's easy for some lousy DPS to second-guess the tank. You're doing fine."

Anyway, we finished the dungeon. Still, not a good sign (to me) to run into that level of stupidity so soon.

I must say, though, the investigation/puzzle missions are amazing. Really REALLY difficult, but so logical and well thought-out that you can still solve them. You just need to work for it. We did one mission where you hear a Morse Code transmission and have to decipher it. Yikes. FYI, I solved that by recording the audio and loading it into an editing program so I could actually see the waveform and read off the dots and dashes. This ended up being faster than my brother replaying the signal and getting each letter by ear one at a time. You really need to think outside the box for these puzzles.

No, there's dissent and there's being a jerk. These things are quite different. We've seen both lately.

Yeah, and their corporation mission statement, from their web site is:
To make people in this world happier.
The ultimate mission of NCSoft is to make each and every one on Earth happier. That is, to make people's lives more enjoyable.

So... I really don't put a lot of weight in their words.

Well, it may be a genuinely stupid decision. We should be in a position to judge that in perhaps a year.

And that's YOUR choice, and it's a valid one.
Some people won't invest in companies that produce guns, liquor, gambling, etc. I have no problem making money off such businesses. We all have free will. And, hopefully, we all have the strength of character to not give a damn what random strangers think about our choices.

Get over it. It's a personal decision made by an individual. It's no one else's business and it's neither good nor bad.

NC owns all of it, every single bit and byte.
Actually, you are factually incorrect regarding the characters. NCSoft's EULA gives them the right to USE the characters you created, but they do not take ownership away from you.

They don't seem terribly hard. When I pick up a mission, I sometimes worry that it's listed as 'Very Hard'. Then I complete it without dying. That was 'very hard'? Really? I've been playing the game for three days and, in order to get the feel of the blades set, I haven't even picked a secondary yet. And I can solo 'very hard' missions?

How many difficulty ranks are there above 'very hard'? I'm obviously going to need them.

FYI, I'm recreating Ironblade (broadsword/regen). I wanted to check the survivability of blades with nothing backing it up and it's pretty damn good.

Too bad we can't trade them. I think my main character has 28 Notices. I like doing task forces.

For me, it's not about punishing, or retaliating against, anyone. It's about avoiding a company that, in my opinion, has acted in a shoddy manner - particularly toward their own employees.

Guild Wars 2 looked pretty good to me. But, due to NCSoft being involved, my inclination is to avoid it. Since it's not the only game out there that interested me, I went ahead and bought something else over the weekend. I had never heard of ArenaNet or Carbine Studios prior to all the commotion on these boards. Those names mean nothing to me. It's the NCSoft name that I'm avoiding.

    My last post!

Yeah, Infinity was so empty I did the Yin TF, Manticore, Posi parts 1 and 2, Katie Hannon and the Cavern of Transcendence trial..... TODAY.

Maybe he was on at 5AM. Search was pulling up more than 50 during prime time on Infinity (blue side).

Edit: Oh, he said "in Atlas". I can believe that. We're not getting new players, so who would be hanging out in Atlas Park?

  18. This weeks episode of Extra Credits discusses the various 'aesthetics' of games. They describe this as the reason you play a game and a particular game will typically have multiple aesthetics: competition, expression, discovery, etc.

While discussing expression, they mention City of Heroes... and the picture onscreen is someone pouring a libation at a grave. ouch.

Anyway, if you have any interest in games (aside from playing them), it's definitely interesting. I watch it every week.

There were some missions you could invis/stealth on, run a good distance away and the AI was still following you. Others....yeeesh...the stupid wolf dog in NW (Kii kiii or whatever) was almost the worst. *Takes 2 steps* I don't know where you are!?! help! *kicks dog...I'm right here!* Kii kii!
Hey! He wasn't a dog or a wolf. He was a coyote. His name was Whispering Coyote. You're remembering bits of his dialogue, which went like this:
Whispering Coyote: Ki-yi! We did it! Ki-yi!

The scientists in Warburg were really odd. Unlike most escorts, they could follow you perfectly well while you were invisible. But they could also get stuck on the tiniest piece of rubble in the street.
