Stamina is basically a prerequisite on all of my builds, including those with Quick Recovery. Anyone who doesn't take it, and expects the team to compensate should have their harddrive melted, and their subscription account be Generic'd, along with all of their characters.

    [/ QUOTE ]
bah! My emp/dark doesn't have Stamina and he runs 5 toggles in battle. Yes, he has IO's but no purples or uniques and he doesn't have (or need) Conserve Power, either. Actually, I have not yet taken Stamina on a defender.

On the other hand, all my scrappers/tankers/blasters/controllers have it, unless they have something like Quick Recovery.

    Couple Q's

You probably have gone over on control or power. The vault is "shut off" if you don't have enough of either.

    [/ QUOTE ]
And, from what I've seen, the Vault is the first item to go. It seems to be set at a very low priority for what items get power and control first. So, if you're exactly at capacity and add something small, the Vault will shut off - not the item you just added.

    Later 700 club!

Of course, I would like to hear from the people who put in a badge for 50,000 virtual kills just how we were supposed to accomplish that without "aberrant" behavior.

i have messed with it and i have seen what all i can do. and it does work fine, i just want more. i am kinda like the little bratty kid asking for more and more and more.

Keybinds are useful. Normally, some of the F keys are set to trigger inspiration usage. I have them set up for keybinds: F1-12, alt F1-12 and ctrl F1-12 gives me 36 binds there and I have an overlay on my keyboard listing them all.

Any power that I have on multiple characters gets a bind. I have T for Teleport and alt-T for Recall Friend. Every character has that bind, but if they don't have the power, nothing happens if I hit it by accident.

I have a primary bind file (binds_main.txt) and additional ones for characters that have personal binds (binds_ironblade.txt).

Here's where it gets good - in my main bind file, hitting ctrl-F12 loads the main bind file. That way, if I want to add a new bind to all characters, I just have to edit the text file then hit ctrl-F12 while I'm on that character and it reloads the binds. I also have binds set up to save my chat settings and to load them.

On my numeric keypad, I can load 40+ binds of explanatory text for various SG or team events. I have multiple sets of these (one for Rikti War Zone raids, one for the Abandoned Sewers Trial). One of the binds in each of these sets will erase all the other binds by loading a custom bindfile that sets all the keypad buttons to NOP (short for Null Operation - command used to unbind a key).

    Binds are cool, mkay.

You can't log in on a new character until the previous one finishes timing out anyway. So how time much would it really save? How long does it take to type in your password?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Actually, that's backwards. For example, if you loaded a second instance of the game and logged into another character on the same account, the new log-in takes priority. Oh, you'll get an error message, but hit the login button again and you WILL log in the new toon.

[/ QUOTE ]But that's with a different instance of the game running. The 30-second countdown is an anti-abuse measure, both against griefers trying to escape before being identified, and people trying to escape from a battle that's gone south.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That was an example to prove it didn't work the way you described. As someone else posted previously in this thread, they can reload the game in less than 30 seconds so quitting to desktop and restarting takes them less time than quitting to the login screen.

I'm not saying either of these methods is a common practice, or particularly useful, I'm just saying that you *CAN* log in a new character before the 30 seconds is up.

  8. I can understand reasons for not automating it. What if you're taking a break and have a solo SG or it's family vacation and the family has their own SG?

It seems to me the best solution (assuming we MUST have rent at all) is for it to be on a fixed schedule - 2,500 prestige per month, for example, and I can pay it WHEN IT'S CONVENIENT FOR ME! Passing through Atlas Park on the 7th of the month - I'll pay it now. Or I have some time to kill on the 15th of the following month - I'll pay it now. Pay at any time during the month or your power gets cut on the 1st of the following month - no BS needed to 'game' the system.

I would consider these as broken series:
    <ul type="square">[*]Costume collection during Halloween - 10 - 25 - 50[/list]
    [/ QUOTE ]
Okay, you're being way too nitpicky if you think this is broken. In my opinion, a badge series where the increments only fluctuate between 2 and 2.5 is almost perfect.
  10. Maybe he doesn't understand the difference between a forum thread and a chat channel.

Every time I try to start up the CoH updater, it acts like it will load, then it closes and restarts itself.

    [/ QUOTE ]
So you're not even getting to the point where you have the option of "Verify All Files"? You need to get a new copy of the updater off the FTP site. Hopefully someone will come along shortly to tell us where (since I have no clue). Once the updater runs, you can have it verify all files and replace any corrupted ones.

    Name wipe?

Not my intention at all. Rather, I was trying to nip a potential cry-fest in the bud. Granted, I was a bit snarky about it, for which I have apologized.

Ironically, most of the argument in this thread was directly triggered by your post.
  14. Follow the link in Fulmens' post. It leads to a guide titled, "IO's for Newbs, Casual Playas, &amp; Cheapskates".

Briefly, you would be 'frankenslotting' - taking IO's from various cheap sets to get good performance in each power with absolutely no regard for set bonuses. I've never bothered with this since you can get all that PLUS reasonably good set bonuses for 25 - 50 million (which qualifies as a 'cheap build' to me).

P.S. For some reason, I can't reply to your PM. But the above response should cover it.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
I was just running through Dark Astoria and I had an interesting thought ... does this zone exist if no one is in it?

    [/ QUOTE ]
And what if a tree fell in an empty zone?

My GUESS would be no. Since missions and bases don't persist, and the system spawns extra instances of a zone as needed (which stick around only as long as someone is in them), I don't think they would be persistent.

As for does anyone know? - probably not among the userbase.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
    Current Influence: 80,958,796 Influence

    [/ QUOTE ]
Having fun with colors, are we?
Anyway, I IO'ed my invuln tank for under 40 million and got him around 270% regen. That figure does not include the uniques in the build (nor does the cost because I had them lying around).

And this is obviously NOT frankenslotting just to get good performance on the individual powers. I have the performance *AND* the 300% regen (counting the uniques). Of course, +regen is usually the first bonus (for 2 set pieces) so it's a cheap bonus to get. He has +12% five times, +10% five times, +8% five times.... I think you get the picture.

So, to summarize: You can easily slot him for under 5 million. You can do some pretty impressive builds with the amount you have.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
I usually just set up a "challenge" timer to every TF or Trial that i run, just to see the progress. You can easily use this as a reference to find out when the last wave is coming. Just check the timer when you open the door to the Reactor Room, and if the mission isn't over 30 minutes later.. start hunting!

    [/ QUOTE ]
To be precise, the final wave spawns at the 30 minute mark.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Additionally, having the IO slotted in a power you take early in the game means it's available if/when you exemp down. If you put it in a power you take at level 10, then the IO will continue to grant its buff as long as that power is used or toggled on all the way down to 10, even if the IO itself is level 30. This helps when you're doing Flashback missions in Ouroboros, low level AE missions or teaming with low level friends.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Indeed. My main has a level 15 Kismet slotted in Combat Jumping, which I took at level 6. Every bit helps on the Positron TF.

    Issue Content

    [ QUOTE ]
I am just curious if they have some set formula in terms of overall changes to the game that they try to follow. For instance, Power Proliferation, New Content, AE, Going Rogue, New Powers. These must have been planned in advance, and so did they follow a formula per se?

    [/ QUOTE ]
A "formula" - I don't think so. A "schedule" - definitely. I believe I recall a recent comment that some aspects of future releases are planned as far ahead as Issue 20 at this point. Of course, we are not privy to any details beyond Issue 15.

They might have some sort of pattern they try to stick to, but we have not been informed of it and I'm quite certain we never will be, if such a pattern does exist.

It's funny that this is the only NC game that doesn't have a logout to character selection yet some people can't get how stupid it is that this game doesn't have it.

Co* has the most character slots available of any MMO on the market and yet to log out to character selection option. Seriously? It's not even the second largest MMO. There's no legion of people just waiting for lowered security just to delete your toons.

The main reason the argument against having this option is so stupid is if someone really wants to delete your toons and you walked away from your pc they can just install a keylogger on your computer and get all the information they want.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Did you miss the explanation about how NCSoft is a Korean software company and much of the gaming in that region takes place in internet cafes? But other NC games are different? So what? Someone made a decision at some point. History and inertia often explain why things are the way they are. I won't debate whether this is "stupid" or not, as that doesn't further an intelligent discussion.

    [ QUOTE ]
My argument is that is should be an option to those who want it and available through Account Management.

In a vacuum, I would agree. With all the other things that the programmers could spend time on, I don't. If we ever reach a point of buglessness, then sure.

    Vet Power Choice

    [ QUOTE ]
Is it better to go without, or if not, which would be a better choice?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Is it better to go without? Definitely not. That gives you less options. If you take the power, you can choose when to use it. If you get hit with -recharge and all your other attacks are recharging, you'll want *ANY* attack available. If you have a full attack chain, you can skip the vet power under normal circumstances.

As for which to take, I always take the Sands of Mu on my tanks. If there is ONE AT that is most likely to have the enemy bunched up next to them, it's a tank.
  24. Yes, it means debuff resistance. Some of the power phrasings are just awful. I love the ones that say "+25.00 strength vs smashing/lethal". um, +25 WHAT? If you didn't already know what it was buffing, that sure wouldn't clue you in.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
Not to rain on your comedic parade, Optimus, but the Fantastic Four have had a history of financial issues that have led to them being removed from their headquarters in the Baxter Building and (I think) Four Freedoms Plaza, as well as having equipment auctioned to pay off debts. They're probably not a group you'd want to use as an example in this argument, facetious or not.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Damn straight. Exactly the point I was going to raise.
