Well, there's another problem. Before posting, I looked for an appropriate thread - in 3 different places - and couldn't find it. Thanks for the link!

One of the most useful functions in forum software is the ability to jump directly to the first new post in a thread. To do that, we have to click on a *TINY* triangle. It should be at least 3-4 times larger.

Just for the record, I own two laptops which are side-by-side. I use one for CoH and other games, and this one for IRC, AIM, forums. I can do both at once without changing windows, because they're on different computers. I can type with only my right hand, and play CoH with only my left hand.

That works. What I do is alt-tab to my browser while zoning. I have CoH in windowed mode, expanded to full screen. The browser window is smaller so I can see the CoH window behind it and see when I've finished zoning and alt-tab back.

Ok, another question then. I have a build for my SD/SS/Pyre Tank that would give me perma hasten at the expense of having taunt. Would I still be viable as a lead tank without taunt?

For most content, yes. For some high end content, particularly something like the Statesman TF, no. Really, I think that if you're envisioning yourself as "lead tank", Taunt is indispensable.

First, time it. Is the interval between pauses always the same and, if so, what is it?

Second, there may be a process eating all your cycles and it *may* be easy to spot. I see you're on XP. Press CTRL-ALT-DEL (simultaneously) to bring up the Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab and click on 'CPU' to sort that column with highest CPU usage at the top. Watch it for a couple minutes and see if something keeps jumping to the top of the list and taking 90+ percent usage.

We want ice to look like 'ice' and because of how the FX were created when you apply a very saturated, non-cool hue to them they no longer look like ice and instead look like a cartoonish jewel.

It does, but does it work the way you think it should?
Keep in mind, your gauntlet effect and taunt auras are *NOT* auto-hit vs AV's and GM's while the power Taunt *IS* auto-hit.

Having said that, my ice tank (with both taunt auras and built for high damage) never had a problem tanking AV's without Taunt. Shield isn't quite as suited, but it does give high damage output which is a plus in holding aggro. My shield tank does have Taunt.

So, I would say my short answer is "Yes - you just need to be paying attention." If you plan to make a career out of tanking AV's and GM's, I would prefer to have Taunt.

Even if they did, her pathing is wonky so she ends up swimming through some of the shoreline anyway. More than once, I've seen her 40 or 50 feet inland.

This. When I saw the thread title, my immediate thought was "The fun one." I play one character more than all my others combined. His build cost like 900 million when I IO'ed him and would probably cost 2.5 to 3 billion today. I've never regretted it in the slightest. And I've never bought a purple for any other toon - it's not worth it to me.

Get a Shivan Shard. My emp/dark and his forted/adrenalin boosted Shivan made Nosferatu cry like a little girl. And he's one of the tougher EB's.


And I agree other types of defenders can do it 'really' solo. Infernal managed to hit my dark/archery defender exactly once while getting beaten down.

I'll second this recommendation. I've been using this for a while and it has very extensive capabilities. Extensive enough that you can probably bork your system if you get careless with it, so proceed cautiously.

I'd love for you to clarify how blasters have worse endurance issues than tankers. I may not be too keen on blaster issues, but endurance efficiency isn't one of them.

Actually, seeing Kruunch's comments in here made me realize I was confusing this thread with the one about END issues pre Stamina/SO's. Also I was posting while eating breakfast and put off that the thread seemed to have turned 'jerk' faster than most.

I retract the comment about blasters and controllers (except in the early levels). However, I still dispute the premise that tanks have END issues. If my shield tank can run 7 toggles and use his heavy attacks non-stop (and he has all of the big ones), I don't see how there can be a problem. Now I'm sure someone will ask if I used IO's to achieve this. Sure I did. He's also got a lot of global recharge. Global recharge + Tough + Weave is a high performance build so, yes, it needs IO's to support it. I just don't see that the average tank has END problems. Or, at least, not worse than anyone else. The only way I see a problem is if the tank is expect to solo at a fast rate while running all toggles. This is not a reasonable standard since, if you're soloing, you don't need all your toggles. Also, as has been said many times, if you want to solo fast, play a scrapper. It's clear the devs don't intend tanks to solo fast and that seems entirely appropriate.

As a side note, I think END usage in general does need to be looked at. Stamina is still taken far too often to seem in any way optional for most AT's. But this isn't a tank-specific issue.
