Ah, and you got this from your crystal ball or telepathy? I don't recall him actually SAYING this. If we can assume whatever we want, then base our arguments on those assumptions, well, the sky's the limit, isn't it?

Quote:High level content.I've never understood any arguments against level cap raise, and still don't. More high level content, powers and stuff. What's wrong with that?! I don't think getting 5 more levels every 5 or so years is that excessive or "copying WoW".
Powers.
Stuff.
Every one of these items has been, and continues to be, added without changing the level cap. If these are your reasons for wanting the cap raised, then I don't see any point to raising the cap. -

It was just insane! Around 60 player-controlled entities blasting away. Lots of fun, though.

Quote:Since there is no permanent fix, I would describe that as a wise precaution. Every channel I've joined is on at least two tabs.I know temp fix is: Create a backup tab that holds everything.
I would also get everything arranged nicely then save the settings to a file. That way you can easily import them to another toon. Also, if you go into the menu/options and hit 'Save as Default' for your chat settings, it will automatically set them that way for any new toons.
I'm adding/dropping/tweaking my chat window a lot, so I have a keybind to save the current settings and another to load them (and these binds are on every toon).
/chatsavefile FULL_PATH_AND_FILENAME
/chatloadfile FULL_PATH_AND_FILENAME
You don't actually need to give the full path if you're okay with it being in your City of Heroes folder. I wanted to put it in a different directory with other text files that gets backed up daily. -
Oh, on a side note, did they lose a lot of data when it happened? Or have you already addressed the back-up issue? I have two hard drives and mirror my data onto the second one while I'm asleep each night. Plus archived/compressed back-ups. Plus off-site copies. So, um, probably a bit more than the average home user needs . . .

Many security experts are moving toward the opinion that most AV and malware software simply don't cut it because they are reactive and, in many cases, it's already too late.
By all means, install AVG (I use it). For malware, SpyBotSD and AdAware are both on my computer. I hear very good things about Malwarebytes (but have not gotten around to trying it yet).
Really, though, you want to try to catch stuff earlier - before it gets in. Having no idea what kind of router (if any) they are behind, I'd recommend a software firewall. ZoneAlarm has a free version which I use and it's tons better than the Windows one. Perhaps also install Firefox as the browser. AVG integrates nicely with it and can block malware sites. A lot of attacks are launched with scripts on web sites and an add-in called NoScript (available on Firefox's site - www.mozilla.com) is a useful defense. -

Right, because typing articles and arguing with a boss is both exciting and heroic.
-
Quote:The article explicitly indicates otherwise:Also, Re: No Bosses option - I read that to mean "Bosses spawn as Lieutenants" similar to the option to spawn AVs as EBs, but I could very well be wrong. I also wouldn't at all be surprised if it was nullified by the team size slider.
"Just as before, players will be able to choose the level difference of critters they face (up to +4 character level), but with this issue they can choose whether or not to fight bosses in missions. Furthermore, they can choose whether the server assigns missions to the character as if they a single character or more, up to treating the character as a team of eight. All of these sliders are independent of each other." -
Quote:I never said it wasn't a fringe activity. And I think your estimate is low. I have Empath on two toons and neither is on a badge site.If I recall correctly, the amount of characters on either CIT or BH with Empath is below 80 (a lot of them the same on both sites). I believe CIT is at 69 verified characters with the Empath badge.
So let us say 200 characters have Empath to take into those driven people that don't use the badge sites. This is out of several million characters. Seems like a fringe activity to me.
With all due respect, I still think it's a totally BS standard. Did ANYONE get them 'legit'? Is it POSSIBLE to have gotten them 'legit'? (Possible in THEORY, maybe. Possible for anyone with a life, hardly.)Quote:It is a black or white situation: Did the person get the badge through intended means? Even by your admission they did not. -

Quote:But that might change some day, right? I mean, having been around so long... you must have a lot of stuffz? Am I right?I've never posted a goodbye thread or given away my stuffz because I never leave the game angry, so I know there is a chance I'll return at any point in the future.

Seriously. Every time I start to believe people shouting how the devs hate farmers, they turn around and do something like this. Being able to choose 'no bosses'? That is SERIOUSLY pro-farm.

Quote:The 'addiction' label is a value judgment applied by others which, by the nature of addiction, it has to be. If you play a game 12 hours a day, it's probably interfering with your life. However, if you're a professional gamer, then playing a game all day *IS* your life and it ENABLES other things in your life by giving you a salary. How does making a living at it make it not an addiction? I work 12 hours a day, and it sure as hell isn't healthy or fun. I have to agree with Lumi on this one...why aren't I addicted to work, but if I spent the same energy on games, I'd be addicted to games.
A flat-out measure of hours spent at an activity does not indicate addiction. It's whether the activity interferes with other aspects of your life. If gaming 10 hours a day makes you drop out of college, it's a problem. If gaming 10 hours a day pays your rent, it's not a problem. Well, it still COULD be, but there's more to it. If you're working 12 hours a day when you could stop at 8, and it destroys your marriage, then it's a problem. -
True. And I do think this is a much better idea. The previous plan was to punish those doing things of which the devs disapproved. The new plan adds something which will be of varying usefulness (but at least SOME) to just about everyone. Even if it doesn't impact AE farming, it's still a beneficial addition to the game.

Quote:Maybe, maybe not.
There are a handful of badges that really are unreasonable, but if they employ the same idiotic carpet-bomb approach that they did with the MA badges, it will be bad.Yes to the "reducing badges to near insignificance" part. In my opinion, the way the MA badges were handled was absurd and, in fact, backwards. They kept a handful and simply threw most of them away when it was only a 'handful' (a dozen, or a bit more) that were problematic (and should never have existed).Quote:How so? Do you mean removing badges? Or do you mean reducing badges to near insignificance and making them account-wide?
Honestly I don't expect either of those to happen (I mean, I'd love it if something like Field Crafter were account-wide, but that won't happen). At most I'd just like to see a few of the "harder to get" badges have their requirements lowered, especially if they're tied into an accolade.
I hope.. HOPE they don't gut the entire badge system the same way. I would agree, I don't 'expect' it to happen. On the other hand, I didn't expect the senseless carnage done to the MA badges. -
Okay, so you personally know only a dozen. So what? Everyone with Empath got it via those 'anti ethical' means.

Quote:Well, I can't say whether you deserve them or not. I can say that humility generally makes a more favorable impression.I am a target on many of my posts in threads, and am rarely given the props that I think I deserve for my effort and creativity. Maybe I am wrong and I do not deserve them.

Quote:Sadly, a lot of the high-ranked groups got there either by exploiting or cracking the whip on prestige mules. The ranking, by itself, tells you nothing.2. Be picky about which SG/VG you join, frankly in your case, if they SG/VG is not in the top 5 spots in your server, as aweful as it may sound; they are not worth joining. You need a huge SG/VG to ensure there are enough players on-line when you play, so you have a chance on getting something started.

Quote:Ah, and I thought you were going to mention Disney.I live in the United States of America, and there is a town BUILT on the influence (and real life cash) of "Not Real" to the south of me that is huge.
And here is a hint of what I am speaking of.

Quote:Correct, it (they - to include prestige sprints) only allows Running and Jumping sets, and BotZ is Universal Travel.
Yeah, that defense would be pretty heinous. My shield tank has two sets (Combat Jumping and Superjump) and it's eye-popping.Quote:And they didn't want people to be able to slot up to six of the things (Five prestige sprints plus sprint).
Well, at least on a shield tank it is.

Well, the guy I was playing last week already has those badges so I'll bring Ironblade. (50 BS/regen)

Quote:Are you for real?Guy who plays chess every night in the park is normal, girl who sits at home playing video games and chatting online is abnormal? Girl who plays bingo nightly is fine but the fellow who murders hordes of zombies needs help?
I don't understand how there's a difference, or how one can be called an addict and the other can't. Enlighten me.
Someone who plays chess a couple hours every night is no more addicted than someone who plays a video game a couple hours a night. But we're not talking about a couple hours. We're talking about every possible minute - eating at the computer, not meeting with family or friends, neglecting schoolwork, neglecting personal hygiene. If someone spent 12 hours a day playing/studying chess, they'd probably be considered addicted - unless they were making a living at it.
