The mission server is having a hissy fit. One tactic that often works is to have ONE person enter the mission; the person with the most powerful computer and a good connection. They can say when they have fully loaded. If that works, everyone will be able to enter with no problems.
Apparently, on rare occasions, it has issues with someone trying to enter the mission while it's still loading. Normally this isn't a problem. -
Quote:In fact, a redname did specify that it was a "map instability issue" in this post. So, no, not an animation issue. This is the second time I've heard someone refer to "Walk" as the reason for the emergency maintenance. Until a redname confirms, I'm extremely skeptical that the introduction of a new non-combat power broke the servers.

Feel free to express your displeasure by declining to purchase the booster pack. As for me, I've already purchased it for both of my accounts.

Quote:Agreed on both.Very much so. Purge names from time to time. It helps clean up the throwaway characters. I'm not sure how many names it frees up, but I see no real reason not to, especially with the current purge parameters. But tying names to global is just... Icky!
Furthermore, considering the increased leveling speed and restrictions on trial accounts, they might also want to purge all names below level 15 on inactive accounts. -
Quote:You seem to be doing some sort of calculation; if X names are taken by now, there will hardly be any names left after double the current duration. I contend that the number of 'taken names' is currently TRIVIAL and will not suddenly become mathematically significant in another five years. If the game lasts another five years the supply of names will become decidedly sparse. Something will have to be done at some point.
Let's see, I was making an earth controller with empathy secondary and the character is an alchemist. So I wanted a name like 'Doc' and something related to earth. Got my first try: Doc Volcanic. And this was on FREEDOM. -
Quote:Ah hah! What does prevent us from having multiple cape rigs is an imposed rule that we're only allowed to have one, which is why, for example, if I ever edit my Mastermind's 5th costume slot it will automatically be drastically altered, because it uses the cape+bolero combination, which is no longer valid in the costume creator.
With arbitrary auras on weapons, on the other hand, they would have to dramatically alter the way costumes and auras work in the game. They can create weapons that have an aura as a part of the weapon, but they can't put an aura on a weapon.
I want my sword to have a cape! How about that?

To be precise, Fire gets no defense. Dark gets 5% to all in Cloak of Darkness.

Also, it's relative to everyone around you. The standards of wealth are different in Toadsuck, Arkansas and Hollywood, California. When casual players in my SG have asked how much influence I have, some were amazed when it was over 100 million; some were amazed after it passed 1 billion. In this forum section, it's more like "How many billions have you got?"

No, you're right. I can say this from experience. Once I get a good assortment of inspirations, I can go for multiple missions with the tray full (on my /regen, I usually close the tray completely). I still get the other drops.

Quote:That was the only unwise part.My friends and I have made the (apparently unwise) attempt to play Dr. Kahn's TF - we've got four players:

Well, the best advice is something that it's too late for you to take advantage of: bring a debuffer. Adding a radiation or dark defender to that line-up would make it a dramatically different fight. Adding two debuffers would make him your bi..... um.. hapless victim.Quote:Any advice? Our plan is for every one of us to get a full round of nukes (all 3 per character) and try the mission again - but any additional advice would be appreciated...
The nukes are a good idea; just don't fire all of them at once. You need to pace yourselves since he has over 120,000 hit points. You should probably get new Shivan Shards also, since there are only 4 of you. Everyone drop a Shivan, then fire the biological mutagens. Then fire the Chemical Burn on Reichsman. The Nuclear Blast isn't as useful since it's just damage (well, it also affects endurance but that's irrelevant in this fight).
Really, a -regen power would be best and the missiles don't provide that. The entire TF doesn't take much over an hour with any sort of decent team. -

Oh, but when you quote a message directly, it shows the posters name and the message ID so it would look like this:
[QUOTE=Verene;2407985]First 2 paragraphs of that last reply were quoted - I don't know how to do the nifty quote thing you guys do - just hit the quote button.[/QUOTE]
And it would display as:

You started out right but when you removed part of the text that you didn't want in the quote, you also removed the leading quote tag. In the editor, when you are quoting, it should look like this:
[QUOTE]This is the quoted text.
blah blah blah[/QUOTE]
Here is my reply to the quote.
In the displayed message, the above text will display as:
Quote:Here is my reply to the quote. This is the quoted text.

Quote:Let me give you some actual numbers. I keep track of how much CoH I play and I also have a program called BitMeter running that keeps track of my internet traffic and gives daily, weekly and monthly charting. What I need to know is how many GB's does CoX use when I play it upwards of 8 hrs a day, 7 days a week - per month - for example does an 80GB download limit enable me to do the above or would I be using much more than this?
I'll watch an occasional video online, visit lots of web sites (articles, product reviews, blogs, etc) and play CoH a lot (30+ hours a week). In addition, before they reduced the requirement for the healing badges, I would run overnight heal farms with two accounts in an arena event while I slept. So in a month with 35-40 hours a week of actual playing, then 40-60 hours of two accounts sitting in the arena, I never exceeded 12GB per month downstream. -
Quote:Unless, of course, you go for a CPU with 3 memory channels, in which case you'll probably want your RAM in a multiple of 3.Figured I will just get the 64 for if I decide to get a quadcore and bring my RAM at a later date to either 8, or go nuts and max at 16.

I can't do Sundays, since I run a TF for my SG on Sunday evenings, but I can help get the word out and put a notice in the Infinity Hamidon MotD.

Oh, and much gnashing of teeth and claims that the market is wrecked and drop rates are all messed up and the devs hate villains and we have to merge the servers and all the good names are taken. I think someone also posted that accuracy was nerfed.

Quote:I submit that, since you are posting here and participating in this discussion, your reference to "you people" includes yourself. Sorry, but posting on the forums that "you forum posters don't represent me" is rather silly."The squeaky wheel always gets the grease." It's called a truism because it's true. The people who have the free time and the $$ to go to Hero-Con and/or post 20/7 on the forums are the ones who the Devs listen to, and I'm sorry, but you people do NOT represent me.
YOU ARE ONE OF US!
YOU HAVE BEEN ASSIMILATED! -
Quote:um, are you being serious or are you being silly on purpose?I never understood the whole 'Vet Player' vs 'New player' naming disparity. When anyone creates a new character, all players are on equal footing as far as getting a name is concerned. It's not like the Veteran players have access to some special character name directory.
"You, good Sir/Miss have no worries for your statues within the games grants you access to a lexicon of names to choose from."
"While you, peon, have this list on 500. Oh and just to let you know, most of them are already take, so we shall be replacing the L's and I's with 1's, o's with 0's, T's with 7's and spaces with -'s. Guess you should have been here sooner."
What they mean, is that the vet players got to the 'good names' first, used them, and retained them. For example, I once set up a time to play with a RL friend who I had not previously teamed with in CoH. He showed up with a dark/dark scrapper named Midnight. I asked him how early he made that toon, to get it with the correct spelling and no punctuation. He said he was in the original beta. THAT is what people are referring to.
Having explained what they mean, I think they should take a hike. I think the name system is just fine and there are plenty of 'good' names still out there. I made a technology tanker, a guy in a suit of powered armor. I figured the name Alloy would be taken. Surprise! It was available.
