    Well.....

Back with your blowhard sig, eh?
"First toon in the history of CoH to control the Ghost Ship Intense Kill"

You posted and made a big deal out of it when you did it, and ignored all the posts saying you weren't the first. I personally know of 3 people who did it before you, including myself.
  2. I've done this exactly twice and, in both cases, it was because I liked the original character and wanted them on my home server.

I made an energy/energy blaster named Dyno Joe but stopped playing on the server, so I remade him on Infinity with the same powers, bio and costume but different name. It was a short time after the April Fool post about 'visual sounds' so I named him Captain Freem.

The other one was a dark/dark scrapper named Endothermic. I remade him on Infinity as a dark/dark TANK named Endothermy with the same bio and costume.

er, I didn't really say that. I said that *I* went that route and it was extremely effective. I haven't built an invuln around defense for comparison. Also, I want to be clear we're specifically talking about invuln tanks. Sets that are primarily defense are a different story.

I'm not sure why people are so down on Leadership for Tankers - it seems natural, and I wouldn't call a global +10% To-Hit and Damage that bad!
What helps your SURVIVAL more - Assault/Tactics or Tough? Or Aid Self? If you want to beat things up faster, play a scrapper or brute. As a tank, there is always some power you can take to directly improve your survival - and it ain't the Leadership pool.

    Quote:
And if you have to ask me what I want with +10% to-hit and 180% accuracy, all I can say is Rikti Drones, Paragon Protectors, L54 Bosses, and AVs.
BUT! you say, 'Only a filthy Scranker would want to do damage!' or 'Real Tankers Taunt and Endure!'... to which I say "Bah!"
I don't have a problem hitting stuff with my invuln until it gets down to the last enemy or two. Invincibility gives +to hit and I have it slotted for that (and defense, of course).

    Quote:
    - - - How much Resistance and Defense is 'enough'?

I'm not asking how much I need to solo Ghost Widow, or to tank a 8++ spawn of Bosses in AE without back-up. I want enough to be Comfortable, no matter what I'm doing, in an 'average' situation.
Well, originally I was going to answer 90% and 45%.

    But for "average" situations?
Take the main powers in your primary and two of the passives (RPD and Tough Hide). Add the Fighting Pool to get Tough and Weave. Slot Invincibility for defense AND to hit. You'll want IO set pieces or HO's in Invincibility to max each effect plus get some end reduction. The rest of the build can be SO's or IO commons. That is MORE THAN ENOUGH durability for most of the game. My invuln tank was a beast back when we only had SO's. (AFTER the invuln nerfs.) I didn't have Weave, but I did have Aid Self. And I did take the other two passives in the primary.

You're saying you only want to be able to handle 'average teams and situations' but you're getting into some pretty specialized build details. You're already past handling 'average' stuff. My invuln is built for 'extreme tanking'. He can do it all. He can tank multiple GM's/AV's at once. He can tank the Statesman TF.

Starting with the basic powerset, I feel that the first goal is to add Tough since smashing/lethal are so common. Taking your resistance from under 70% to 90% against such a common damage type is HUGE.

Then you need to address other damage types. Your passives are of some use here. Going outside the powerset, you have two directions: regen and defense. Defense is better *most of the time* but it's harder to get enough and it's far more expensive. Also, for some damage types, you just won't be able to get enough defense. Plus, some enemies debuff defense. On the Imperious TF, my base defense went as low as -100%. Starting with 10%, 20% or 40% wouldn't have made much difference - in that specific situation.

Since regen is a 'universal defense' and it's so easy to get, I went that route. Of course, defense helps against sappers and their ilk and regen doesn't. Either route has trade-offs.

Tough call. In terms of pure numbers - the tank. This is because tanks get more hit points and regen is based on percentages of your total. However, stone has a lot of regen built in so you might NOTICE more benefit on the scrapper. Also, once the tank gets Granite, he won't even need that little bit of regen.

Personally, I'd put it on the scrapper. I have an invuln tank and built him for lots of extra regen. Invuln + regen is a good combo.

    Healing Badges

Run more RWZ raids so you can use Howling Twilight. Rezzing people counts their full HP toward the healing badges.

Misused? Actually, this is clearly Working As Intended. If the devs didn't want people using the Ouro Portal as a travel shortcut, then it would force you return to the zone you came from, rather than giving a list of options.

Yes, it does say something. It says that I can put the benefit of the game ahead of my own greed. I think that being able to pull all enhancements out would be worse for the GAME, irregardless of what it would mean for my wealth.

This is incorrect. The virtual team and real team sizes DO NOT ADD. There is no such thing as a team of 9.

In your example, the team with 2 real players and 8 virtual is spawning like a team of *TWO* for purposes of the boss setting. For purposes of spawn size, it is working as a team of 8.

    Quote:
This also applies to EBs/AVs. If you dont wanna fight AVs solo, you need to keep your effective team count below 6, even when teaming. So you can reduce it down and have 5 people on the team but itll only spawn an EB if youre set to x1, but if youre above that, set to x2+ itll spawn an AV, because its treating you as an extra count for teaming purposes.
This part is wrong, too, and for the same reasons. Under no circumstances does the system add the real and virtual team sizes.

    Three cheers for witless threadjacking?

Still, I'll bite. Okay, the numbers aren't the same as at the time of Issue 4.
    Your point?

P.S. Someone posted a thread in this section asking about the Nemesis Staff power. You could go post about the game dying in there, too!

    Advertising!!

Really? How well is that working for all the MMO's that advertise on TV? Oh, wait, there is only ONE MMO that advertises on TV and WoW already had millions of subscribers before they started TV ads.

Television advertising is expensive and is a LOUSY way to advertise unless you are selling something that has sufficiently wide appeal. TV ads are great for food, cars, cell phones, medication, movies with name stars, toothpaste, razors, clothing, travel, booze, etc. These are all things where you have millions of potential customers watching.

Having said that, advertising on specialized cable TV shows that focus on gaming MIGHT be worth it. But ads on the networks / major cable channels would be a huge waste of money.
  11. Pretty much anything billing itself as specifically for 'gaming' is a scam to get more money out of you.

The exceptions would be various controllers/input devices (mice, keyboards, etc) and video cards.
  12. In which case, my original argument applies. If a group is coming to investigate the situation, they are not going to ignore the perfectly visible hostage. So if it forces you to forgo your own stealth, that's working properly.

If you have to lead someone somewhere, it should not be stealthable. This is just being realistic.

Firstly, if you're in SG mode, it's 250 prestige, which is significant. Obviously Santa was behind this because the selfish people who aren't in SG mode get a measly 250 influence.

Secondly, there are several temp powers it can be - the coolest of which is the Jingle Jet.

Finally, if you don't know in advance what it is, then it most certainly is mysterious. muahahahahahaha

Anyone can have full invisibility way before level 35.

It's not a dated mentality and it wasn't before IO's.
You need to face it, the "potential loss" is INTENTIONAL. If you have 40 IO's tied up in one character so you use a respec then need to go buy 30 new ones, great! Working As Intended.
  16. I can answer the first one and make a general statement to lead off: actual team size will override the AV setting.

If you have AV's set to NO, but you have 6 or more people, you will get AV's.
Now that we have different difficulty settings, I don't know how big a team you need to force AV's at different level settings (or if that even applies).

As for virtual vs real team size, the higher of the two will apply. If you are set to virtual team of 6 and have 4 on the team, missions will spawn for 6. If you have 7 on the team, missions will spawn for 7.

P.S. I dunno squat about how the settings work in AE. Someone else will have to field that part.

Also true, but that's TWO power picks to get Tough and my ice tank does not have it.

I don't think I've ever made a toon at absolutely max height. However, my ice tank is over 7' tall and I never had any issues with his size during the trip from level 1 to 50.

Oh, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard. And it's not going to happen. The original thought was that we would get to keep nothing. Then they decided to let us keep 10 and, in previous discussions about this, Positron said that he felt that was being generous and there were no plans to increase it.
  22. Well, if the map is cleared then the NPC ability to follow a stealthed person is moot, isn't it?

  24. Oh, and actually looking at the build: lose Assault and Tactics unless they're for PvP. The numbers suck for a tank. I only take those powers on defenders and controllers and my main scrapper. I respec'ed to get them on him for the PvP zones.

I went a different route with my inv/EM. He's got all powers from the primary, only 5 from the secondary and has Tough (but not Weave) and Aid Self.

I don't need to list his IO set-up because it's pretty basic and can be summed up in one word: regen. He's got most powers semi-frankenslotted with 2 pieces from one set, 2 from another, etc. Regen is the first set bonus so you can get lots of it and you can get it cheap. Not counting the cost of the Numina and Miracle uniques (because I had them lying around), the build cost under 30 million infl. He's got the 12% bonus five times, the 10% bonus five times, the 8% bonus five times, etc. He has 300% regen and I've tanked Lord Recluse with him. He has NOTHING to boost defense - not Combat Jumping, not even the Steadfast unique.

I might respec to get him Physical Perfection since that didn't exist when I finished his build. I can drop the Medicine pool since I stopped needing it after IO'ing him. I never used it again EXCEPT when tanking Lord Recluse with the red tower up.

So, to answer your question: maxing resistance and the defense you already get works fine for me, backed up with serious regen. I always saw invuln as primarily a resistance build so I took that and ran with it. He laughs at those clowns in Cimerora with their defense debuffs.
