Quote:And? The best way to make money off us is to keep us entertained and happy. What's insulting about it?Obviously neither of us has any evidence or statistics here, but I don't believe that most of the players have 'addictive personalities'. This game has an unusually broad and older playerbase compared to most online games.Quote:Only it isn't. The best way to make money off us is to get us addicted to an unhealthy degree.
(shrug) Then stop doing it.Quote:That's what the Incarnate system is designed to do, and that is what I find insulting. I'm just getting a little weary of Skinner box design games. -

Quote:And? The best way to make money off us is to keep us entertained and happy. What's insulting about it?And this doesn't strike you guys as insulting?
I'm not making this up. Every time the subject comes up, the usual arguments are:
1. "It's a business, they're out to make money not to entertain you."
2. "You don't know what's good for you, the developers know better."
3. "You're in the minority, you don't matter." -
Betterment? You mean "to make money". Having the game appeal to the widest possible variety of playstyles works toward that goal.
-
Exactly. This character is generally believed to be the test of new holster technology.

Quote:I don't need a vote. I have nothing but contempt for Microsoft. Their entire concept of security is pathetic and they constantly think they know what the end user wants/needs better than the users themselves, even when it has nothing to do with security concerns.I dunno. I've been out a bit, and I'm actually sorta wanting to play again (kept my accounts active against such an eventuality...), but this launcher thing pretty much instantly killed my enthusiasm. Yeah, I know. You guys don't get a vote.
If this creeps you out, then fine, don't play the game. But it doesn't concern me in the slightest. I have a third-party firewall on my system to keep MICROSOFT in check. I don't rely on them for my computer security. I maintain tight security DESPITE Microsoft's 'best efforts'. -
Yeah, brutal lag. Still, I did my share. Logged in both of my accounts to boost the numbers. I figured that was more important than how much I could contribute to the fighting. (Not much.)

Quote:I saw you there.I had created my little namesake on Freedom and only had 2 levels. So yes I was standing in Atlas park and waiting for trouble to arrive.
I would have created a guy with Ironblade in the name, except I already had toons on Freedom so I brought my highest one (level 21), Doc Volcanic. -
Quote:Interesting. What you're stating here is the exact opposite of many, many other people. Lots of people really dislike the early levels since they have access to so few powers and they are limited by inferior enhancements. Some people ROUTINELY power level new characters to level 20 just to avoid the early levels. Not sure if this is significant, but it strikes me as unusual.I've tried this before and failed miserably, but I'd hate to throw in the towel on what is a really great game. Those first 20 levels are great, and than I plateau.
Quote:I have yet to think up a genuine character. I've tried before. My scrapper had the most concept out of all of them, and I can hardly remember what that was now. I think you're on the right track here. In order for you to be 'invested' in the character, it has to be more than a bag of numbers and statistics.Quote:I would love to cook up just ONE character that I can sink my teeth into, but I'm at a loss on how to do that. For one, I get hung up on game mechanics and have a thing for jumping at the "easy" sets (Willpower comes to mind). I'd also like to break out of these characters that are one-dimensional. My scrapper relied on a power suit to control his motions and enhance his power. So I had street clothes as one costume, and the suit as two. Not much else going on there.
I have a tank in a powered armor suit. It started with the name, Alloy. Once I got over my shock that the name was available, I wrote his bio. The suit power source taps into an alternate dimension. Well, then he 'obviously' should use Teleport for his travel power. What secondary powerset? Well, if we have excess power, we channel it through this gauntlets so he uses Energy Melee. Yes, Electrical Melee might make more sense NOW, but there was no Electrical Melee back then. I'll often take powers that most people hate because they fit a concept. I have two characters with Group Fly and two with Whirlwind.
I can tell you the general background story for every single one of my characters from memory. For a lot of them, I can tell you precise bio details, like their real names. I spent TIME on every single one. If I hadn't, I wouldn't have kept playing them, since I wouldn't have cared.
Try starting one character and sticking with it. When you hit your 'plateau' and start thinking about another character, stop and think about WHY the character is no longer interesting to you. ADDRESS THAT REASON. It may mean respec'ing into different powers. It may mean a bio rewrite or new costume. It may mean deleting and starting over the SAME CHARACTER but with a different powerset that 'fits' better. -
Quote:Yet that would be a distinct improvement since, at the moment, a solo option does not even EXIST.Solo Incarnate content is fine - but people need to be prepared for it to be a lot less efficient at making progress than the core Incarnate content of the Trials - the system simply isn't designed or intended to have a solo option be anywhere near as fast as the normal Trials option.

Get a clue. If they COULD do both during the same time, they WOULD. Once again, they're not having extra downtime just to mess with you.
-
Quote:No, but there are three good reasons to use /chatsave anyway. And thanks for reminding me of chatsave...does it still have that bug where the color randomly reverts upon relogging?
1) Loading the settings to other existing toons.
2) Loading the settings on new toons.
3) Re-loading the settings if you misclick and bork your chat window (sadly, this happens a lot). -
It happens. I know someone that happened to. Every character was gone and there was one new one, named Scorned Wife.

Be bold. Work out a way to send your message directly to our brains. That way you cut out all the work of creating language.
-
Right. Apex and Tin Mage II are TASK FORCES, not trials of any sort.
-
Quote:Firstly, it's not ridiculous that you have downtime. It is normal and expected AND you agreed to it in the User Agreement. Not true. They can, and should pro-rate days (or hours) of game time credit for those hours we're unable to play.
It's ridiculous that we pay for game time and are just to accept these down times as necessary evils. They're not - at least not with the frequency we're having to presently tolerate.
Secondly, who says it's not necessary? Are you seriously suggesting that they're having gratuitous downtimes just to mess you over? Grow up. They have downtimes exactly as much as is required to keep everything running. -
A picture is worth 10,000 words. Can you give us a screenshot?

Quote:Ah, the info appears multiple times on the same page and I didn't catch them all.
Fixed now.

Quote:And that has exactly WHAT to do with how HARD it is? At least come up with REAL reasons.and the BAF is easier than the Lambda?
1. BAF has a cut scene that ties up every player for 1-2 minutes before they even get inside the compound.
BTW, we'll be skipping the cut scene soon. If everyone on the trial has seen it already (i.e. run the trial at least once) it will auto-skip the cut scene. -
Quote:<snort> "supposedly"I can't say I agree with this statement. Unoptimized teams have been completing Mo* runs for Apex and Tin Mage forever now. Up until the iTrials, they were supposedly the hardest game content.
Some of the other Mo badges are harder. Unoptimized teams can EASILY get MoApex in a single run. MoTin is a bit harder, but it's also easy if you're willing to do two runs. (Getting Hacker and Midnight Dodger on the same run makes it harder.)
Oh, and I'm talking about when they first came out - prior to all these funky Incarnate powers. -
And note that this is the badge WINDOW, which you open from the nav window - NOT the badge tab in the info window.
