Last night I noticed this happened alot in the AE buildings. I was just standing still discussing an arc with a friend and the freeze happened 3 times within 10 minutes.
I checked the FPS inside the AE building and I noticed I was only getting 45 FPS while normally I am at 60. The only time I have 45 seconds is when I am in areas with alot of smoke or around a raid throwing off a ton of particle effects.
Even so nothing appears to be happening in that area which would drop my frame rate from 45 to practically zero. No one is coming in and setting of a single power. We were just talking. -

Okay, maybe its time to kick the tires and see if the old "new idea machine" can come up with something...new.
I mean, another invasion?
Haven't the Rikti gotten the point, yet?
[/ QUOTE ]
I truly have problems comprehending this outlook.
Atlas Park is really old. Should they get rid of it because we've all seen it a billion times, and we all find it tedious and not furthering new content?
Since the Ghost Ship and Adamastor are really old, should they stop them from spawning and replace them with something else?
I have no doubt that someone will point out that the invasions are different. They're more intrusive, in their way, because they "take over" a zone. I've had an invasion halt TFs in their tracks more than once because of how they now clear the zone of "normal" spawns. I still like it when they come back, for badges if nothing else.

No one has said get rid of the Rikti Raids. The weekends however... They just are not fun. The raids happen too frequently. It's near constant where you can't really get much done. Even if all you are after is the badges you can pretty much finish that off in an invasion or two.
They need to add variety to these things somehow. objectives. Maybe bring back that mothership for Atlas oark they had when CoH Beta ended. It's always all the just the same thing and it's constant.
The first few times I saw a Rikti Raid I thought it was ok. I never thought it was mad eof awesome but it was the new shiny so I played around with it. Now I tolerate and occasionally join in on the random raids that occur now and again. When it is just a constant thing though it grates on my nerves. -
I enjoy a good heated debate. I also look back on the fights I had in grade school with nostalgia and I didn't always win those. Maybe we are just weird that way but yeah. It's fun to argue serious matters once and a while. I remember being involved in a big discussion about Homosexuality once. I don't remember the specifics of the argument but it was fun debating.
It's kinda strange really. The heated discussions we would have about off Topic things were tame to some of the heated discussions and arguing we have over the on topic stuff. It seems odd that we get more vehement about stuff that doesn't matter as much. -

Now watch someone make it into an AE arc. -
I see the same thing. What I don't understand is this negative reaction to people enjoying the game. I don't see why people have to be forced to play their way. Sure it might be frustrating being unable to find a team some nights. It happens. Some nights are slow. Big whoop.
It would never even occur to me to start walking up to random people and demand they stop what they are doing and start doing what I want to do. Let alone start petitioning the devs to change the game and force them to stop. I think people need to grow up a little and learn that the world doesn't revolve around them. Despite the rhetoric not 'everyone' is farming in the AE.
Heck. The AE is still the new shiny anyway. People always hang out around the new shiny. In fact you actually see variants of these kinds of threads every issue. People complain that noone does such and such anymore and that people must have left the game in droves when in truth they are just doing what is new. I remember this was especially true when Oroborous was released. People complained that that was all anyone ever did. -

AS it stands now people just grind through newspaper missions most of the time. When I lead a team I can occasionally steer them towards the AE for an arc before heading back out to do radio missions and safeguards again. If you eliminate or reduce the rewards how would this play out? Players already hate extended downtime between missions. How are we supposed to hold their interest when the missions itself is downtime?
It's not as critical Redside but on Blueside it is a different story. The devs have yet to fix their boneheaded decision to have nearly every mission in an arc be in a different zone and each of those zones be located somewhere other than where the contact is. You can't really run arcs efficiently like that. It creates alot of stopping and going. The few zones where this isn't an issue have been done to death and you get often get a violently negative reaction from people if you even suggest doing the hollows, for example. On Red side the stories are all pretty much contained in one area and You can generally knock out one of those arcs efficiently. It provides a nice break from doing constant mayhem and newspaper missions while also occasionally putting players in unique situations that are otherwise unavailable in newspaper missions.
Heck. One of the biggest appeals to me about the AE is that I'm not fighting X group yet again. I am facing unique foes or I'm fighting some of the older foes with a twist. I've been around for 5 years. I still like the game. I still like the NPC groups but They are getting stale and highly predictable now. The AE Provides fresh content. New enemy groups whose powers I don't have memorized from the outset.
As a team leader if I am able to provide fresh experiences along with XP that is a win/win. I like to get a team warmed up with radio/newspaper missions to see how they work together then I like having the ability to shake it up a little to help hold peoples interest. TF's are generally a no go for a variety of reasons the main one being a time commitment. Mission arcs are great but slow on blue side and not overly unique on either side. The AE solves this. -
I dunno. personally I don't mind speeding up the leveling up to around 18 I generally just want to get there as quick as possible and don't care about stories on the way. At the same time I detest farming so I guess I don't do that in and kind of efficient fashion. I know that I can generally, through normal gameplay in 3 hours with a full team gain about 5-6 levels in the sub 20 levels. It doesn't suprise me in the least the people who have figured out how to exploit the system can do it faster.
Once you get to level 20 or more specifically 22 you are going to be hurting for money. Then again if you already have a 50 or have friends with 50's that isn't a big deal either. Even so you problably want to slow down on the power leveling.
Once you get to 45 or so. Eh you aren't going to miss out on anything new at that point and you might as well just get it done. -
I don't really have any trouble putting together a team. Usually the hard part is just getting started with it. You will see 3 or 4 people LFT in broadcast. Generally one guy can get them together and just start running people with 4 people and then the leader just has to keep an eye out for others between missions.
you don't HAVE to have 8 people in your team at all times. Even so I have had little trouble this last week putting together 8 man teams both blue and redside. At non peak hours too since I normaly play late evenings early monrings.
Yeah I occasionally pop into the AE for a unique story I've never done before. I don't hang around all day. Those that do.More power to em. That's the great thing about having choice. I don't have to play their way and they don't have to play mine. -
*yawn*
I don't mind the Random raid when people trigger it. It's fun then. I HATE when they do these constant bombings though.
I'd rather it be a system where the game thinks to itself " Hey. No one has turned in halloween salvage or done the LGTF in around 3 days. Lets trigger ONE event and reset the timer"
These constant attacks really drain the fun out of the attacks themself and pretty much kills eh weekend. -
I didn't know the guy. after reading the article I am left thinking he had an interesting premise but his execution was all wrong. He intentionally altered the results. If he just silently went about doing what he said he was doing he would have gotten a different reaction. Another problem with his research is he only had contact with the few who did get mad enough to start cursing him. What about those that simply left the zone or just didn't get close enough to get droned.
Conducting research by playing the game based on the spirit of the rules is fine. Heroes and not supposed to be chatting it up with Villains, especially in PvP zones. All fine and dandy. Someone who would intentionally attack these villains without goading people about it would be interesting. He would be doing what the zone was designed for. However TP droning people is not within the spirit of the rules. As far as I know it's always been borderline exploit and it doesn't have that skill quality that, by the professors own statement is "The battles are designed to distinguish the most skilled players."
Now there have been times where I've turned a blind eye towards tp droning people. particularly when you have been holed up in your own base. In those instances I would never call such activity skill. If anything it is the drones "skill" defeating the player.
Had he limited himself to actually physically attacking player himself he would have received completely different results as well. for one he would not be very successful. Additionally since he was putting himself at risk he wouldn't have generated the anger he provoked. -
For my part I like to have the option to goto the AE as a change of pace when I am leveling. Yes I enjoy the stories but I like to enjoy the stories while I am leveling or earning infamy or whatever. If you remove XP from the system I would stop using it. There is nothing in this game that is so fun I would spend and hour or two doing it just to read a few lines of text.

since it is happening on all games it is definately some thing with your comp. do a system hardware stress test and see if there might be somehting wrong with the video card or ram or processor. also do a disc clean up, defrag and virus scan. if nothing comes up from that then get ahold of the manufacturer.

What should I tell the manufacturer? -
I am curious as to weather we will see a level increase with this expansion. Take us to level 60.

A Friend of mine has been having an odd problem that has me stumped. Whenever we gatehr a team together and start doing mission he starts lagging upwards to 15 seconds. If it doesn't just lag him out he can only get rid of it by zoning out and quitting the team. If he zones out and does not quit the team the lag does not stop. When he quits teh team it starts to resolve itself and return to normal.
Now This doesn't happen if we are in the open fighting with a group of 8 or even more. It Only happens in instanced missions with a large team immediately upon entering. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this and how we might resolve it? -
If I am remembering Cable modems correctly. Isn't the speed limited by the number of people on the line? What kind of speeds are you looking at.
City of heroes has required unreasonable amounts of bandwidth since Valentines day...I think it's three years now? It's a bug no one ever admits to but it's there. That's why you cna play pretty much any other MMO out there with Dial up with little problems but City will knock you off. -

Nope, you're just wrong. The damage moderator for dominators overall was dialled up by about a third again. Then they made individual power tailorings to make them more distinct and to encourage people to pick up more than just one attack (looking at you, PSW PSW PSW PSW). Then a lot of people who don't read decided to call it a nerf.

And then there are those in game playing wiht it and noticing that the damage did not increase. -

Let's see. Removed damage buff in domination. Nerfed flares. Did not change Fire breath. Did not change Char.
Buffed incinerate the damage on 4 powers 1 of which I don't use. lengthened recharge times across the board so DPS as a whole went down. Increased end usage.
Last time I played this Dominator I did okayish against enemies but at least had a button that allowed me to do decent now and again. Now I do slightly less okayish and have no way to really change that outside of insps.
By way of example. I used to do 10 damage per tic with Fire Breath. I now do 9. It might be jsut because the character is still low. Did they screw up the curve? -

On the one hand I kinda get what Hardcase is supposed to be and I sorta understand how he thinks. Some of my Villains are the same way. However the way he comes off is all wrong. You do NOT strong arm a villain the way Hardcase does. If Harcase actually walloped the Player before telling him to do as he says it might be easier to swallow. Although I imagine that would annoy the players as well.

I've always heard 70 is the danger zone If you overclock your stuff. If you don't overclock anything then it can go a little higher. Dust and such can cause temperatures to rise so if you do have high temps you might be able to help by blowing the dust out so long as you know what your doing. there are some decent tutorials on how to do that on the net if you feel you need to do that.
That's one of the things that is driving me up a wall about this. I know a bit about the hardware side and things seems to be checking out. This is why I'm convinced this has to be a software issue somewhere and I am just not anywhere near as confident on that side of things. The problem only cropped up recently and most of the programs I use have no problems. It's only a few select ones that have a problem.

That is just it Sharker. It is not happening to all games. Fallout 3, Oblivion, LOTRO, Sins of a Solar Empite, Sims 3, GTA4, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Total War: Empires plus a few other older programs all work perfectly fine. It's only the three I mentioned that have this probelm. -

I wasn't trying to bring you down. This is something I've been trying to help my friend with with the last Issue update. He is on Dial-up and it's a pain in the rear trying to get the game to update. Especially since it has now decided it needs to download a gig for reasons unknown.
I've already looked into a faster way to update and noticed the pigg folder is practically the entire game. I know it sucks. hopefully you'll be able to get your friend up and running soon. We are still trying to figure out how to help my friend out short of bringing his computer to my house. -
All of the components tracked by that hold pretty steady in the high 50's regardless of what I'm doing. It's still freezeing.

Argh.
/em flip now ends with you permanently in the "idle ready" animation. The one where you have one foot forward, and females are arms akimbo.
This used to put you in the "hands on hips" animation, and leave you in the idle animation swap loop (moving between hands on hips, arms crossed and foot forward)
This probably seems like a silly thing to be frustrated by, but I used /em flip to force characters into the idle cycle for screenshot and demo purposes.
[/ QUOTE ]
I kinda like the new version. Maybe what we need is /em idle so you don't need to use a workaround to get you into the animation loop you want?
[/ QUOTE ]
Try /em Idle1 or /em Idle2. I put those in back when we did the wedding event.
Between those and the /em akimbo /em crossarms emotes, you should be able to get the stance you're looking for
[/ QUOTE ]
You know... I like Emotes and would like to see more of them. However at this point I would really appreciate something User friendly added to the UI to list these emotes so I don't have to dig for the ones I want. -
I wasn't kidding when I said the Pigg folder is practically the game itself. It is 2.8 Gigs by itself. IT would be just as quick to reinstall.
