You mean scroll with the mouse wheel? If so, there is an option to choose scroll speed that for some reason defaults to 0, so you can't scroll at all. It's under General options, I think, and I think around 80 is about three lines per wheel tick.

If not, then I don't know.

I didn't know until last week that I could see someone elses missions in the map, because I had been solo until that point. I was 35 at the time. I had agreed to help someone on a mission they couldn't get past. As soon as we entered the mission door they said, 'I've got to go now sorry.' Why do people do that? Its so annoying.

    QR;

I have a very effective philosophy that works very well for me.

When I invite a player to a team, I watch them play. If they're an effective player who keeps up with the team, cool. If not, but the rest of the team is still doing okay, then at the very least they're acting as filler to increase the spawn size. If they're actually a detriment to the team, in that they're AFK when the mission's over or they're aggroing unnecessarily or they're doing someting else that puts the team at risk... I kick them.

    Very simple.

    It's not hard, folks...

The key is to talk to them. Tell them what they're doing that is unacceptable. Most players who behave badly are simply inexperienced, they need to be taught a little bit, that's all. They just need some guidance. Hopefully when one tries the guidance is well recieved, but often it's not, and if it's not then that's okay too, they have the right to tell you to stuff it... but you have the right to boot them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This doesn't have anything to do directly with what you said, but this entire conversation reminds me of an experience I had in Everquest during the release of LDON - Lost Dungeons of Norrath. LDON was an instanced zone expansion. It introduces mission instances similar to the system in COH. The only problem is that you had to have a group of 4 to enter any. So you can imagine the plethera of pugs that went on during this time. The kicker also was that the LDON got rated so if the group failed the LDON you got a rating hit and people could basically search and exclude anyone with any rating hits. The missions are timed and you had goals like defeat X or Y etc. The upside is that with LDON points you could buy really decent gear.

So I'm sitting around the LDON entrance and a group asks me if I want to go in with them so I agree. We enter the mission, and immediately the leader pulls like 4 or 5 guys, no ready checks no buffs no pre readiness etc. So already I'm thinking this is gonna be ugly. Theres no coordination, the leader is the puller and the tank and isn't communicating what hes pulling or what his strategy is. We have mobs maybe 3 feet to the righ of us and the leader goes directly ahead, and keeps running down some corridor. Well everyone starts to follow but somhow 3 or 4 mobs aggro from the room to the right so we stop to fight them. Still no word from the leader. About halfway into the second mob, the leader comes back with another 4-5 mobs in tow. OK so now we have 8 mobs on us. Anyway we get through the fight, nearly eveyrone is on 1/4 or less of their health before the fight is over, the healer went LD or flatout left about halfway through the fight. All of a sudden some schmuck in the party starts yelling something about, ' so and so is your group leader, you guys need to start pulling your weight and doing what he says because we aren't gonna take this crap' or something along those lines. I do a smile emote followed by a bye emote and promptly leave the group and take a fail hit. I don't know if anyone else stayed but I really didn't care a bit at that point.

WOW. I just had to look this up. That's pretty horrible devs.

Theres some entrances that are a complete PITA to find. I was given a random mission somewhere in Fort Cerberus once. Not only did the mission arrow not give the direction to the correct fort entrance, when I finally did find a valid fort entrance, when I entered I was surrounded by about 20 reds all shooting at me upon entry.....So under heavy fire, I had to navigate and figure out where this stupid mission entrance was. I think I found it right before my HP went to 0 and quickly zoned through. I appeared with the least amount of health I've ever had short of dying and that was just trying to find the mission door.

They are meant to have to work in concert with masterminds to mitigate damage through agro management. tryign to take on an entire room, or even an entire +2/+3 spawn without anyone else who can take a hit to help them is all ina day's work for a tanker, but brutes, or at least most brutes, simply can't pull it off.

Doesn't that slow attack speed though? Why wouldn't shield do well for it? Isn't it an alternative to the armor powers?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Haven't used it much myself, but I'm pretty positive shield is one of the "weaker" defensive sets. I'd seen a lot of people mention taking fighting to make it more survivable. But Granite is just insanely strong, it used to be Stone's panic button before they made it a toggle. But yes it slows your attacks and movement speed. One of my friends uses hasten and swift with 2 slots to compensate but with stone you only need a total of 2 toggles running at most since only rooted can be active at the same time as granite.

Keep in mind, granite does have one weakness. It has no defense against Psychic.

Yes, thats one reason when I was skimming through it i avoided it but I'll look through and see what I can come up with through the various options other than shield.

I remember in Everquest... I was on a shadowknight, coming from befallen for part of my Epic. I ran across a couple of toons fighting mobs in the middle of the zone and they kept getting mob after mob cuz they would range aggro. They died a couple times, I summoned their corpses and got them dusted off and aked if they wanted me to show them something. I procceeded to teach them how to pull closer to the zone line, away from aggro paths. To you they were probably idiots, but to me they were new, didn't have experience and needed help...

I thought I was the only one who had this problem. In WoW, anytime I'd shift from my druid to my shaman, it took me a few fights to get the hang of it again because the shaman plays in such a different way than other classes.

The same goes for LOTRO. My two mains were a Hunter and a Warden. Anytime I'd play the Hunter for awhile and go back to the warden, I had to practice to get the combos back in my head. Wardens have a 3 skill combo sequence that make up 20+ moves that do varying degrees of things...

I don't think this is a difficult game to pick up, but it is a difficult game to master - if that makes sense? I had to explain some stuff about IO set bonuses to a friend recently, and he's been playing for a while.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That I have to agree with. It's fairly easy to pick a character up learn to play it at least relatively competently in a short amount of time, though I still think handing a brand new player a combat level 50, character level 1 character would be a disaster. But the thing is that most of the veteran players would never settle for "relatively competent." They expect people will be good at fighting deep purples with optimised builds, know their place, uphold their roles and instinctively assume what they're supposed to do. I've seen more than a few instances of people being chastised for not knowing how to speed-run an ITF, for instance, and that's before we even get into the "offender vs. healer" debates. Hell, I think I have reasonably competent builds who can handle most anything solo on Tenacious and I've been on the receiving end of this because I don't have Stamina, need to rest and don't measure up to the other optimised 50s.

This is not a hard game to pick up, but just picking it up and being reasonably competent has never seemed like enough, judging by other people's demanding standards.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is exactly what I'm referring to in my reply just before you finished yours. I don't know how you people do that. It baffles me how you can complete purples solo on that difficulty.

I'm not attempting to bash you for anything nor agree with any snide comments about how people should know how to play the game; I am just making an observation from my own experience that I didn't find it a difficult game to pick up.

I don't think this is a difficult game to pick up, but it is a difficult game to master - if that makes sense? I had to explain some stuff about IO set bonuses to a friend recently, and he's been playing for a while.

On the other hand, I've been playing for over four years, and he gave me a lecture about Confuse mechanics - I was totally wrong and he corrected me. Very humbling experience.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I haven't even made that dive yet. I probably won't even get basic IO's til 50, then once I have those in place just grind INF to find the sets I want. I was looking at the Merit Rewards and found some potential sets that might work. One involved henchment implicitly, giving them bonuses once the set was completed. I haven't really decided on what I 'need' since I seem to be doing fine as I am.

I do know what you mean about the differences between basic knowledge and advanced knowledge of gameplay. I've never been a number cruncher or a min-maxer. I don't even know how ppl extrapolate the data in their heads they way they do. I'm a trial and error kind of guy. I take a skill, see how it performs, through use I evaluate what works best for it:defense vs end reduction, damage vs accuracy or range etc... Another way I evaluate my progress is how difficult things are. I hear of people doing strike forces on challenge 5 and completing EBs at that level. I can play normally on challenge 3. I haven't gone past challenge 4 yet, but even on strike forces I have to go back to challenge 1 because I find the SF bosses are too much to handle solo beyond that. Maybe its their sets or maybe theyve jumped into io's before I have. I just know from my experience I can't achieve that level of difficulty successfully.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
There is a simple rule of thumb, I that once came up in a discussion I ahd on teh tanker forums, Inokis - if you can do it (whatever "it" is - but ussually it involves opening a battle ahead of or without the tank, as you suggest), and you succeed, and no one on the team gets killed as a result, then more power to you. Its when you do it, and fail, and die, and the team gets whiped as a result, that there's a problem.

In videogames, as in life, success (or failure) are what count in the final analysis.

And you're playing city of villains - there are no such things as tanks where you come from. Brutes make a passable imitation, but they don't shrug of 4-digit hits like rainwater the way their bigger (if softer-hitting) cousins do. To be frank, they need someone to help take the pressure off during tough battles, and masterminds are designed almost explicitely to do that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, like I said I do have FF so that might help take the edge off more. I also use Presence Power Pool, so anything that I needed to take off to help I could. The key for MMs is that they have to hold the aggro to make their tanking skills effective. Now if supremacy affected teammembers, then the damage would be mitigated further making MM's more of the tank go to guy. I have a feeling it was meant to only affect henchmen for this very reason though.

Honestly, I've been trying to play a brute, and I've found brutes a much more difficult AT to keep alive than my MM ever was at the same lvl.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
That's an easy position to hold as a veteran of the game. Right now, I could probably pick up an AT I've never played before, levelled to 50 already, and still figure out what to do with it within a day. However, I also know almost everything there is to know about this game and can cite precise numbers on most powers off memory, as well as explain the intricacies of obscure in-game mechanics.

This isn't as easy a position to take if you're a newbie, however. For me, it took over a year before I even started to grasp the basic concepts of the game, and I've respecced my old characters many times over because of the stupid stuff I'd done with their builds. And it took me until recently - that's FIVE YEARS - until I figured out the very simple concept that what costs more is not the power with the highest cost, but rather the power with the highest CYCLE cost, meaning the cheapest of powers often end up being more expensive than the most expensive powers. And that's one of the simpler, more obvious things.

I don't know, maybe some of you are geniuses who can figure out the game on your own instantly, but my experience shows me that this is FAR from a simple, obvious game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There are some small mechanics to the game I've had to ask about. I didn't find it a difficult game to learn. MMs are supposed to be one of the most difficult classes to play as far as learning the game mechanics and my mains both on the EU trial in '08 and my US sub are both MM's. The tutorial spells out most of the primary mechanics. I'm not a big fan of reading guides and being told how I'm supposed to play a game so I didn't really want to explore the guides much and get locked into ideas of how other people think of things. The one thing that changed from the trial i played and now was the bodyguarding. Luckily there were a few players who saw some of my posts and explained that little detail.

I'm not attempting to bash you for anything nor agree with any snide comments about how people should know how to play the game; I am just making an observation from my own experience that I didn't find it a difficult game to pick up.

Blasters doing leeroy jenkins on every spawn? Unless you've got the "Rocks Fall Everyone Dies" trick down pat, stay back and let the tank do the tanking. See "teleport prompt", above, it works the other way, too.

Brutes too chicken to charge? Let me put that size fifteen Witch's Boot up your reluctant heiney, or GET IT IN GEAR!

I have a feeling ppl would be trying to tell me to stay back and do less becasuse I'm so used to doing it all. Otherwise all I'd be doing was keeping everyone FF buffed and letting my droids assist the tank. Thats as close to standing back and doing nothing as anyone else has described .

    [/ QUOTE ]

So you keep saying. However, you are simply factually wrong. Continuing to say it won't make it any more correct.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No I am not. You are misunderstanding or choosing not to, whichever the case is... Until something is observed to be defined it simply exists as data waiting to be defined values through observation. Until you know how to measure a particle you don't know its there, you don't know what to call it, therefore you don't know it exists even if it does. End of argument. Everything requires observation to know, or implied knowledge through to observation of something else which can then lend to other theories and other predictable events our outcomes of a particular observation...

If an entity is made of energy, it cannot touch the ground it cannot feel the air it cannot observe these things we 'feel'. It is merely data to be measured and then defined. It is all subject to perception. There is no getting around it.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
I didn't say it doesn't exist... I said it doesn't exist as we define the perception of it... What causes it to be observed exists in its measurable quantities but if no entity is there to give it definition or a container to fit it into measurable definitions then it is merely just particles, and such existing without being observed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sorry you misunderstood the principles you're attempting to quote.

And also we don't need to perceive things to observe them. You're confounding the common use of observe with the scientific definition of observe. We can make observations indirectly as well as directly.

    [ QUOTE ]

That is factually incorrect. Photons traveling through space are light. Always. No matter if anyone sees them or not. Similarly, occilating waves traveling through an elastic medium are the very definition of sound. They can be observed to exist without anyone perceiving them and yes, they are still sound, regardless if YOU personally can understand that things exist outside of your brain or not.

I suggest you brush up a bit on basic physics. You're very offbase.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You are offbase. Like i said the particles exist, the definition we call light doesn't. I'm done arguing the point because you are going to keep arguing in a circle of statements you keep regurgitating....
