Life:

while(!dead) {
do_stuff();
go_to_sleep();
wake_up();

echo "Rosebud...";

The ultimate grind.
Still, it has it's moments, doesn't it?

That's debatable. -

There will be so many Dante clones/ripoffs out there, it won't even be funny.
[/ QUOTE ]
Dante?
[/ QUOTE ]
Is it sad that the first thing I thought of was not the video game dante, but the divine comedy dante?
[/ QUOTE ]
I was thinking the same thing. I've never played Devil May Cry so I really had no clue what the name was in reference to otherwise. -

PS- I also recommend you all try playing a couple of characters from 1-50 without any dev tricks, just as a normal player, to see how grindy things are. Then go on a couple of farm missions with some friends and see how fun the leveling can be in comparison.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nice try....I've played everquest, you wanna talk about grinding, go back to Pre Pop era. I've played WoW... 3 70s BC, all played without powerlevelling, multiple 40's and 50's before that. I am working on an MM, Solo; 39 so far without a single bit of xp I haven't earned for myself. I will continue to do this for the other 3 toons i've made at my leisure without power levelling. Farming is the antonym of fun. I will never even consider a farm, or any methods for PLing including Level Pacting. Your challenge is pointless. -
[ QUOTE ]
Before AE came out there were at least two warnings not to use it as farm grounds. They were ignored.
When AE came out the patch notes and tutorial said not to farm it. This was ignored.
The Devs went "If you can't be trusted not to throw the ball in the house you don't get any balls."
People acted like kids they were disciplined like kids.

This is probably the most straightforward, concise and appropriate explanation anyone has put forth. If anyone has difficulty understanding the reasoning after this then... they deserve what they get. -
Yay, now I can take my eyes off the pointless drivel of certain topics and retain some sanity.

What ever the reason, The downtime has always hurt CoX. Lots of people leave to other games because they are up more. Not to mention most game companies perform normal service routines at the time the largest player base isn't online. I have a had time believing Europe has more players then U.S. 8am CST is just the wrong time to bring this stuff down. suck it up like every other IT based company and do your service at 2am
[/ QUOTE ]
I've played many, many mmos and most are down for maintenance an equivalent amount as COH. I seriously doubt the maintenance hurts any mmo because it keeps the servers stable. When WoW couldn't even keep its servers from crashing for a day, then they ran into issues and were essentially forced by the player base to upgrade because people were cancelling at one point in huge numbers. -
[ QUOTE ]
Helping new players isn't as fun as it used to be. I remember going into The Hollows speed boosting folks and TP'ing them to mission doors. I'd get on my emp and hit the sewers and be a guardian angel to the new players while talking in local chat about the game.
On red side I'd get on my kin and speed boost folks as they ran by. Sometimes people would stop and chat with me about the game.
Since MA, hardly anybody runs the sewers, goes to The Hollows or does missions in Mercy.
[/ QUOTE ]
I spend hours a day in Mercy, and theres always someone doing missions there on Triumph. -
All the notice said was daily maintenance. Daily being the operative word, I thought they came down daily... but I don't play at this hour that much. When I do though they always seem to be coming down at the same time so I assumed it was indeed daily.
-
[ QUOTE ]
This seems to be happening more frequently, and not just to me either.
Happened a bit on Triumph, but I recently moved to Champion, now its a common occurrence. To quote that ever versatile phrase...
WTF?

Well a lot of issues can cause mapserve. If theres a lot of traffic on a specific zone then the chance increases. Some of it can do with the route your traffic has to travel through. Anywhere down the line an interruption in data flow can cause it. Certain types of routers that cycle the dns or ip address for security can be a likely causes as well.
Some zones and some servers in general get more mapserve issues than others. -

The scene: an AE team, everyone is autoexemped up to 50. On the team is a level 32ish Fire/fire Blaster. Please keep in mind that Bad has her own level 35 Fire/fire Blaster, so is aware of how these characters roll. [Bad's Blaster was not on the team at the time.]...

I feel your pain...
I've actually argued in the past that Fitness should be an inherent that unlocks over time. There are the odd players that don't take it and insist that it's not necessary and that you can run a character just fine without it, and they have a point... the problem is that a very specific build and playstyle are required to make up the short-fall for not having Stamina.
This is obviously a case where the guy had no idea how to play the game, or how the powers work in conjunction with one another. You're right, the reality is that if he sacrificed a few of those powers in his primary/secondary he could be far more effective (seriously, the idea of a fire/fire blaster without Stamina really ups the pucker-factor for me... especially given that my main has been a fire/fire blaster since launch) at "blowing stuff up".
There's not much you can do with a guy like that, but I'd likely have tried, much like you did, to educate him gently and let him know of a way he could accomplish what he wanted much easier, but if he kept it up I'd probalby just put him on /ignore for the rest of the mission.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think a specific build really needs to be made to compensate. I think the crux of the matter is that making other people wait for you to play catchup (unless they are friends) is unfair to them. If someone wants to run SFs on their own and rest after every pull they can and they have every right to play that way, but in a group a more 'global' attitude should be developed because its no longer just the dynamic of one player.
I have Stamina on my MM or else I wouldn't be able to run with forcefields up, and maintain the buff shields and keep aggro all at the same time. Once I put up both dispersion Field and Force Bubble then I need to really watch what I do because the endurance recovery is extremely slow with everything on.
If i were to make an MM build that didn't need passive endurance then I wouldn't worry about stamina when I game, but I would definitely have an alternate setup using stamina for groups. -
Maybe people that have been around awhile, but today alone some bratty little kser was going around 'helping' when obviously no help was needed and they didn't seem to understand the concept of 'don't ks people who aren't in your team'.
-
Every day I'm in mercy for at least an hour, sometimes the entire time I'm logged in for a play session. I'll sit there and buff lowbies with FF, and answer questions. Sometimes I'll get the rude comment like, 'why do you just sit there and act cool don't you have other stuff to do?' or 'why did you just put that bubble on me?' I try to make it entertaining as well. I've got a hotbar full of boombox and pet dance emotes, so I'll throw up a dispersion field and announce the bubble rave while i'm buffing and hanging out. I'll also mal new mms if they are having problems learning something. Some people try to get me to push them through missions and other silly things, but overall people tend to appreciate the effort

Fire guy: LOL! I'm not wasting power picks on stamina, be serious.

How is this any more of a waste then converting your INS to blues when they could be used to say... boost your toon...
It would just be a diff way to boost your toon in a manner that wouldn't require wasting other resources... Am I missing something?
A travel power isn't as much a necessity as character longevity is... Between the diff perks of Pocket D travel and Mission travel, its easy to get around without using a travel power.
Also, if a person prefers not to waste the points on fitness, but knows they can't be resting every 5 seconds in a team...couldn't they just take a secondary team spec with fitness and swap to it when needed without affecting their primary build? -

You've got e-mail.
Further translation: They were sitting outside the AE asking how to get a "normal" mission. You can infer from that that they had never played OUTSIDE the AE building before. They had only ever run AE missions. They were asking how you get a "normal" mission from a "normal" contact because they'd never played the "real" game before.
Also, I like "lasers" and "quotation marks".

I teamed with a Warshade tonight, who formed a team around level 11-13 at the AE building in Atlas and then asked, "How do I get a mission?"

Maybe they hadn't done AE yet.

Translation: You have to have a level 50 to be able to make a Warshade. This person apparently got all the way to level 50 and THEN got a Warshade up to level 11, all without ever learning how to get a "normal" mission.
Kinda sad, honestly...
[/ QUOTE ]
Did you get my messages?
I will be 50 before I ever do an AE so granted I still have the cantact for AE but maybe they hadn't remembered who the contact was. -

Honestly, I have no idea. But I think(speculation) it is enough that relying on vet badges is a poor idea.
[/ QUOTE ]
I honestly never look at badges. Like, ever. I think I check some random passer by's badges when the topic is raised on the forums and promptly forget about it.
But still, if people meet a specifically poor level 50 character with no veteran badges who doesn't seem to know his left hand from his right... Well, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... Of course, segregating people purely based on badges is silly, obviously, but I wouldn't say it's a good idea to just discard them as meaningless. Nothing in life is ever absolutely certain.
[/ QUOTE ]
I look at badges before I ask ppl if they need help or have questions about anything. If they are a vet then they know how to play and if they have a question for me about mms theyll ask. Occasionally it might be a vet on a new account but most of the time if they don't have a vet badge then they are new. -

They failed to realize I had been the one SBing and FSing them.. I only saw a few comments along the lines of "Why am I not moving fast?" and "Do they (the enemies) debuff damage?"
edit: I also left the team after that mish was done.

You can see your own notes, but nobody else can, they're yours. However, the star rating you give and recieve is viewable by all.

huh. interesting. is this star system used by alot of players? or only a very few?
ive never heard of anyone mention in game about this.
where can i read more about how this star system works, tried google search, but all i get is how to rate AE missions with stars.
im guessing 5 stars is good.
is your star rating a total of all the star ratings youve been given?
all it takes is one annoying person to give you one star and ruin your rating?
i dunno if i like this star system

So people can go around arbitrarily one starring ppl and theres nothing you can do about it? If that's the case, its extremely unfair and has the potential for unwarranted bias. -

Honestly? Any assistance I can get is welcome assistance. Even if you wind up just debugging code and, eventually (HOPEFULLY!) playtesting the system, you'll -still- be helping. =-3
Also, if we wind up using a pre-made engine (quite likely I imagine) then your coding ability might be enough to modify that engine... No?
-Rachel-
[/ QUOTE ]
That would probably be fairly cost effective. Coding your own physics engine from the ground up would add a lot more overhead and time. -
