That's a pretty odd way to look at your Mastermind, Sigium. The Genin are melee henchmen, so expecting them to stay out of melee and fire is pretty much opposite to the intended purpose of the changes, and I'm not sure about the Oni as my Ninja Mastermind doesn't have access to him yet, but I'd say I very much prefer him to use his attacks rather than holds and Rain of Fire.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, they're so damn squishy that it just makes it a suicide mission to send them in. Even Punks have Resistance with an Enforcer or Two on the scene, you know?
And then Smoke Flash? Pffft... Genin waste it with sub-par damage, Jounin are already IN Stealth, and the Oni is best used for Control, so it's wasted for them.

Get the Presence Power Pool... It will let you bodyguard and keep your pets alive. -

I didn't use to solo a lot. However, I'm currently on a laptop with Vista, and I can't seem to get the hotfix installed- something about an error code 40. So, City of Heroes crashes every time I get in too big a group, or even a room with too many mobs. So, I play solo- which isn't entirely bad. My main character is a scrapper. But I'd really like to try a few non-solo powersets every now and then, or just level faster, and I can't do any of that. It vexes me.
[/ QUOTE ]
did you try checking to see if the hotfix was listed under add/remove programs? If it is, remove it and try reinstalling it. Normally that error is caused from a failed installation and unless you uninstall it it will not reinstall. If it isn't listed under add/remove programs there is a process for removing hotfixes under one of the Microsoft articles. -

I used to have an issue with masterminds, specifically finding them boring -
No, I should correct that. I had (still have, really) a Bot/FF mastermind. I found leveling him a chore because it was boring as heck. Bubble, select target, sit, wait, go again. I completely gave up on MMs for a bit, as the experience with that character colored how I felt about the entire AT.
Eventually - since I've got this urge to get at least one of everything up to 50 (and heroside... more than past, second defender up to 50 in a bit over 200 hrs) I decided to give them another shot. I went into the mastermind forums, said flat out "I find this character boring and it's made me not want to play msaterminds, that other characters I tend to like doing X, Y, Z with - so is there a powerset that would change my minds, that you think I'd enjoy?"
They looked, said "You seem to like being busy and involved, so yeah, bot/ff is not for you, try these..."
Ended up with a Thugs/Poison who became one of my favourite characters.
The bot/FF is sitting at 26 - I've passed him, again, with a necro/poison and merc/storm. >.<
Other sets?
I *Love* controllers... except Illusion. Cannot stand the illusion set. Still trying to fight through it with an ill/sonic, but it doesnt' get logged on for long before I go to play something else.
Can't think of others that just don't do it for me - perhaps Storm, but that's more not being completely used to hurricaine (and why I don't mind on my MM - my henchmen won't get annoyed if I screw up with it.)
Edit:
Oh. VEATs. I find my widow OK, after multiple respecs. My bane... ugh. And wanting to level to try the other branches (yes, I know, I can do dual builds - but I tend to want to know how they do on their own) ... I just have no urge to. If they had a decent... well, *any* - storyline past the earliest contacts, well... on the flipside, I love my Khelds. *shrug*

I have the opposite reaction with my bot FF MM. I play on challenge 3, and If I don't use my presence skills to keep the aggro, theres a very good chance when fighting 5 or so that the bots will die, especially if theres more than one red spawn. I do have a ton of fun on MMs. Sometimes when they want to attack diff targets it can be a bit of a chore keeping them bodyguarded, and on target but its fun and it will most likely always be my fav AT in this game.
Just yesterday as a matter of fact; I was fighting 3 in one of the RWZ missions (i can't remember if it was rescue the soldier or destroy equipment). I missed the fact there was a comm officer around the corner, soon enough I had 6 guys all running around tagging my bots and me. Even after I threw up force bubble cuz I didn't know what direction all the fire was coming from, one of my bots bit it. I fell back with bots in tow so I could reign in the aggro and all went well afterwards. -
LVL 6 ATM.
One thing you didn't mention that I do not like is that after training there is no visual cue. On bots they glow red and they have devices that animate. On Zombies they emit vapors.
I don't see anything on Ninjas. -
[ QUOTE ]
No, I mean the character. I put everything into the zombies, and her healing. I had formerly put the leadership pool on her but that stank and drained end like crazy, so I gave that up. I suspect with more *practice* she'd be a very workable character, but meh, I'm just not always into summoning Twitterpated, Diddlysquat, Boogiedeboogie and the rest...

Which goes right back to the original topicSummoners are my fav to play in any mmo or rpg.

Well the thing is I was in the COV beta and I chose a dark/necro mm, and ... when I made her on live, I've since never gotten her past level 21. I did respec her into a fully defensive mode, but ... bleah. She is on the table for side switching if it's going to be possible, because I just ... don't like playing redside either. Too dark.
[/ QUOTE ]
the problem with defensive mode zombies, is that they don't do that much damage. I can totally understand the not liking redside but zombies and Ninjas are the most difficult ones to keep alive. could be why you have some issues -

I used to be terrified of playing melee. I was absolutely HORRIBLE at it.
Played up my defender and then a controller to 50 and decided okay, time to work up to this. So I played a fire/fire tank, and LOVED HIM. So with that behind me, I can pretty much pick up most AT's now.
Powersets... yeah, not so much. I don't use pets except for the fly trap in my Plant troller's set, I just can't stand how their AI always screws things up. Little aggromagnets. And thus, I also have some issues with mastermind play, it's way over my head.
Given the choice between playing 'yet another controller' and something different, I still kinda lean toward a troller though. I have only one Scrapper above 30, and a total of maybe 6 of them at all, so I know I haven't really experienced a variety of melee play. But I *am* very much enjoying the db/wp scrapper I have, she's almost 39.

If you ever want a MM tutor just ask. It was my first toon even on the EU trial before bodyguarding and I loved it. -
Until I changed my Brute from Dark/Shield to Dark/Stone I had the same sentiment. I also don't have as much fun on my Zombie MM as I do on my Bot MM.
Not every build or AT is designed for everyones enjoyment. Just like in Warhammer Online. The only toon I found fun in that game was the Witch Hunter, everything else was meh. -

I have almost all my Robotics powers and maybe only 2/3 my FF powers. I do have: Robotics (7/9), Forcefield (6/9), Leaping (2/4), Fitness (3/4), Presence 2/4; and I still have yet to get my Patron Pools. I didn't want to take anything I knew I wouldn't use so I was very choosy on what I took. -

I have a zombie and Bot MM, haven't tried Ninja yet but I definitely will make one and report back on any results. If this is MMwide and not just some flakey occurence maybe by a specific mission arc then it might be worthy of some bug reports or suggestions on improving the ninjas to be on par with other henchmen reactions.

Yeah...maybe its some other type of problem going on. I know I've been very happy with the way the bruiser is working now. He really keeps on going and doesn't let up. No idea why we still get the long pauses with ninjas. They are the pet set that mostly can't afford to just sit still...damage is all they have going for them.
The genin don't seem to have this issue...just the jounin.

Few threads on this already. It apparently looks like it wasn't enticing enough to the advertisers, or the firm just didn't get the big names for it.
And as for other NC games, or going rogue... that would just be weird. Especially the second. Yeah, it talks to the player, but...
Ever see "The truman show?" Where essentially everyone but Jim Carey's character knows it's a TV show? Now imagine his character looking up and seeing... an advertisement for the next season of The Truman Show.
That said, supposedly they'd have spots for player made advertisements or such - which I also haven't seen.
[/ QUOTE ]
I seem to remember in Earth and Beyond they would have player contests to create ads for the billboards in the game. Maybe instead of ads for revenue they could do some player creations instead. Maybe have special perks rewarded to winners, maybe a free 30 day jetpack or a costume unlock of their choice. -

Bill, when do you ever find time to actually play? Every time I've been on the boards for some time now, you're always the first person helping anyone out.
The MM boards. Why the heck didn't I think of that? Great idea. Thanks hugely.

Also, playing in windowed mode its a lot easier to access multiple tasks at once. I'm often on the forums in between missions. Or if I'm just sitting in Mercy buffing lowbies I'll have the forums up at the same time. -

This was on a mob that I gave a direct attack order on. I was on a team with a brute and stalker. When we would hit a spawn...I would lead in with my Jounin to attack the most dangerous Lt in the spawn.
I'm not a passive or new MM player. I'm always managing my pets and giving them attack/defend/follow commands where appropriate. The Jounin just stopped attacking for long periods.
And his cycling of attacks was pretty retarded as well...he'd spam Gambler's Cut sometimes and never use Soaring Dragon or Sting of the Wasp. Other times I saw him wait for Soaring Dragon to recharge and use it twice in a row with no other attacks.

One of the primary reasons I rolled Redside is the MM AT. I love sumoning classes. Aside from Diablo II, there haven't been any MMO that really give their summoners power. Everquest you got one summon (albeit both Necromancers and beastlords were insanely strong), In WoW you get one summon at a time, In EQ2 you got one summon at a time (the other pets were like temporary dots that expired after X time). In LOTRO you got one summon at a time (and the class was relatively weak compared to summoners in other games). GuildWars gave you up to 6, but you also could hire party members and then there were the heroics you could unlock; so its not quite the same thing. Plus on a GW Necro it was near impossible to keep all your summons alive between fights if the spawns were any significant distance apart due to the constant degeneration effect. 6 is nowhere near the 20 or 30 I could build in Diablo II but its a lot better than 1.
I didn't read much about the diff game environments, I went simply by AT choice and I was disappointed that the Hero side didn't have any summoners. Since playing redside though, I don't think I'd want to play hero side for the simple fact that I really do enjoy my gameplay on redside. Maybe I would heroside as well but somehow I just don't see myself as innately heroic. I definitely feel more villainous by nature.
My main is a 39 Bot/FF MM, I've also made a Zombie/Dark MM, a Fire/Electric Dom and a Dark/Stone brute. I've thought about making a Blaster, but honestly I feel more at home in the redside so I may wait for the expansion before I do that. -
Are you taking damage? Do you keep them on aggressive or on defensive?
I've found that anytime I regroup them by giving them a follow/defense command, it takes them a bit to get back into the game. I may have to take a couple hits before they get the idea. Sometimes just the mob making an aggressive move is enough for them to react but more often than not it takes them a bit after the command to get moving again.
When they just don't seem to want to fight and just stand there, I'll knock everything back and once the mob(s) are on the ground I'll give them attack/defensive and once the mob is ready to attack me I hit follow/defensive to mitigate the damage, and I'll keep alternating that til the mob is dead, and hopefully when the next mob aggros theyll just go into the mix rather than be prompted. -
I'm pretty sure changing the sound files that trigger with the emote command would require file editing. AFAIK there isn't any sort of emote that you can load a sound globally from a source outside the PIGGs. If I'm wrong someone will correct me but I don't think there is an easy way through emotes.

But some options (like resolution) are saved in the registry, and wont help you with a command.

Yeah, I had to use the /screen command for that. Thanks for the reply. -
I know about the wdwsave/wdwload and the bind_save/bind_load commands. Whats the command to save the graphics settings to switch between two diff resolutions?
....
NM just combined the macro with a Screen command and it works fine. -

I don't care that you made one of those arcs. I don't care that other people made them either. What I do care about is how the people who get penalized then come onto the forums acting like they didn't do anything wrong after getting penalized for it.
If you didn't get penalized and didn't fall into the window of exploitive conduct then you're in the clear.
