I was thinking Canada...which is closer to the Japanese pronunciation of Kän-e-da, then that American-dub pronunciation Kan-ey-da. Tetsuo will be...ummm....Ted.

Quote:You do know that Iran means Land of the Aryans right? I've known quite a few of Persians in my life, and many of them were very Caucasian...or at least close to Jake Gyllenhaal in appearance. That's nothing, ancient Persia was full of cockneys
Seriously, terrible movie but all the accents turned it into something akin to Monty Python's Life of Brian, which made it fairly entertaining -
Kinda old news. I remember when Leonardo DiCaprio was gonna play Kaneda with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Tetsuo. Since I believe DiCaprio's Appian Way production company is still producing the Akira Movie for Warner Brothers, I guess this means that he decided other actors should take the roles.

I'm sorry, I want to stay positive, but ewww. How is it possible that Smallville's version of the Wonder Woman costume outdoes this one?

Ron Glass has was on a long running series before Firefly (and many short 1 season running series)...he is probably known more as Det. Ron Harris in Barney Miller (which lasted 7 season) than Shepard Book in Firefly, at least among those over 40. Since Firefly, he's only done stints on different TV shows.
Gina Torres before Firefly did a season of One Life to Live, was a regular on Cleopatra 2525 during its 1 year run. Afterward, was a villain for a season of Angel, did several semi-regular stints on other TV shows like Alias, 24, and was a regular on Standoff (canceled after one season), and on Huge (also just canceled). So ok, she's not really buking the trend.
Sean Maher before Firefly was already doing shows that got killed after one season, The $treet and Ryan Caulfield: Year One, and was semi regular for a season of Party of Five. Since Firefly has been doing stints on different TV shows, but nothing regular. -
Looks like it will be a sequel based on Silent Hill 3, with Adelaide Clemens playing Heather Mason. (Source)

"Sneak Peek" blog is reporting that the principal photography in Toronto has already started for Silent Hill 2 from Lionsgate films. Plus synopsis for the video game adaptation sequel past the jump and more...
So according to "Sneak Peek" blog they've started and writer/director Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) is there too at the helm.
Movie will be in 3D and the producer is Don Carmody (Resident Evil).
Lionsgate:
For years, Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.

It looks like that both Radha Mitchell and Sean Bean, who were in the first Silent Hill, will return for the upcoming Michael J. Bassett's horror sequel. Plus, another new photo has been released. Check out the press release!
Davis Films producer Samuel Hadida and Don Carmody announced today that the stars of Silent Hill, Radha Mitchell (The Crazies, Surrogates), Sean Bean (HBO's upcoming series "Game of Thrones," Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, "The Lord of the Rings"), and Deborah Kara Unger (Shake Hands with the Devil, 88 Minutes) will return to join Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Mad Max: Fury Road) and Kit Harington ("Game of Thrones") on Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.
Filming in Toronto, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D is based on a screenplay by director Michael Bassett (Solomon Kane, Deathwatch), who is joined by cinematographer Maxime Alexandre (The Crazies, Mirrors, The Hills Have Eyes), production designer Alicia Keywan (The Haunting in Connecticut, Messengers), costume designer Wendy Partridge (Silent Hill, Hellboy, Underworld) and edited by Michele Conroy (Vincenzo Natali's Splice).
International sales are being handled by Lionsgate.
Bassett said: "It wouldn't be the same without some of the original 'Silent Hill' cast. Sean, Radha and Deborah's return will certainly thrill fans of the franchise and compliment Revelations stars Adelaide and Kit."
Alexandre added: "With the most advanced technology available, in particular the lighter, smaller and more flexible 3D Red Epic, we are able to take audiences deeper in the world of 'Silent Hill' than they ever dreamed possible. Devotees will finally be able to enter this realm along side of Heather, Vincent, Harry and Rose and experience the psychological horror and the fear of the unknown with them."
Silent Hill: Revelation 3D is based on the acclaimed survival horror videogame franchise by KONAMI and is the sequel to Hadida and Carmody's earlier Silent Hill directed by Christophe Gans. For years, Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever. -
I can kinda see the front camera, to use the iPad for Facetime, Skype, as a mirror, etc. The back camera is harder to justify. I mean, I'd rather use my iPhone or an actual digital camera to take pictures. I guess I can find app uses for it, like WordLens or as an OCR scanner, but the camera should be much upgraded for that kind of thing.

Actually, in all praticality, all a retina display does for the iPhone 4 and iPod touch Gen 4 is double the dpi of the screen to a resolution of 960x480 while retaining the screen size of a 3GS and have apps treat the screen as having the dimensions of a 3GS 480x320. It's a pretty ingenious way of displaying better quality images and at the same time allow apps to run cross platform between Apple's iDevices by pixel doubling, draw scaling, or allowing them to use different images depending on the display.
From rumors, the reason the iPad 2 doesn't have double dpi display (it retains an iPad's 1024x768 pixel resolution) is that it's manufacture would currently increase the cost of the device and the draw on the battery life would be increased to unexceptable levels. Maybe when the iPad 3 is out this may no longer be the case. Keep in mind, a retina display on an iPad would increase the resolution to 2048x1536, which is better than most HD TV's (1080p and 1080i TVs have a pixel resolution of 1920x1080).
As for the iPad getting a stylus, Apple had filed a patent for it, so maybe the next generation iPad will use that tech. -
The main things I want on an iPad now is a retina display and a stylus (which works in the retina resolution instead of touch resolution). One thing about the iPad 2, is I don't really understand why an iPad user would need or want a back camera anyway. I'm sure all they really want is a built-in port or connector that allows them to download pictures from their digital cameras or iPhone into their iPad.

Actually, with all I did that day, I would have needed a camera, a ruler, a pad, pencil, printed instructions on garage repair, a map, and a phone book. Remember, I was also going to my friends house. I had brought tools as well, some screwdrivers, duct tape, and a socket wrench kit, but I wasn't actually what I would actually need till I got there to see what repair was needed...I'm not a carpenter...just a guy...with an iPhone.

I like to tell this story to people who talk down smartphones and pads...
My friend asked me to help her fix her garage, as it had a broken bracket. So I came down and took a picture of the broken bracket with my iPhone. I then looked up on the browser what type of bracket I would need, used a ruler app to take measurements, and the note app to well take notes on the dimensions and type of bracket needed to fit the door. I took all that to the nearest Lowles which I found using the map app on the device and got the exact bracket needed for the job then looked up on the browser what other tools I will need to do the job, then purchased those. I went back, and using instructions on how to fix the bracket gotten through the device browser, I fixed the door.
Try doing that with a laptop!
Oh I would never give up my desktop and laptop, but anyone who only use smartphones and pads as a media consumption device to get e-mail, update social network status, surf the web, watch silly YouTube video, read a book, play a game that has less than 5 minute rounds as a time killer, etc. is highly computer illiterate. Oh those people are out there for sure, I personally find it funny when people with iPhones ask me for directions...I'm like why? Then show them how to use the map app on their device. -
Quote:Tell your wife, she can create spreadsheets on her iPad. They have an app for that...several in fact.My wife. She hasn't logged into the laptop since she got the iPad at Xmas. She uses it to do all the things she used to do on the laptop, paying bills, printing photos wirelessly, browsing the web and reading email.
You still need a laptop mind, otherwise you're sorta out of luck the next time you want to do something like download your photos off your digital camera. But that's basically the only thing I can think of she'd now need to do on the laptop (maybe some spreadsheet thingies as well) -
I don't think anybody here thinks that. We do think that the iPad compliments well our desktop and laptops. Many of us have all three and a smartphone, plus more with all the trimmings, as we're that tech savvy. In fact, the amount of tech I use on a daily basis, carry, or keep around makes most people luddites in comparison.

If I ever make any comic book or video game product (things are in the works), I hope to all mighty that someone (perhaps not Uwe Boll) in Hollywood wants to pay me to make it into a movie. Screw the haters that want to rob me of this.
As for what superhero movie I would make if I had that power...well City of Heroes of course. -
Why is it crazy to wear a Star Trek shirt, but not crazy to wear a Packer's Jersey? I'm personally a fan of to the death gladiator combat, but everyone thinks I'm nuts when I'm out in public wearing in my thorax hamata.

I think Momoa looks great as Frazetta's Conan. And if Arnold didn't play Conan, I expect more people would clamoring how great Momoa looks in the part. It's like Christopher Reeve's Superman. Personally, I thought Christopher Reeves looked nothing like the comic Superman, who looked more like George Reeves.

Quote:If I can program it, I consider it a computer. And I can create programs to run on my iPhone/iPad. What you can't?It's the structure and layout of the OS that I consider the dividing line, not the hardware specs.
I was all ready to buy an iPad when the rumors first started to fly around and people didn't know what kinda OS it had, that it might run a version of MacOS. I can hack, modify, and do stuff with MacOS that just isn't possible with the iPhone software. But then the official announcements came and I lost all interest.

Quote:Then we probably shouldn't mock people who want to be superhuman or at least strive to be better than.Sadly, that sounds all too human. That's the problem.
It's like this brilliant piece of satire from the Onion:

Quote:I don't fear guns. When guns have been pointed at me, and even when there was shooting around me I didn't duck, hide, or flinch. When a guy with a gun came up to my friend, I walked over to stand at my friend's side. Still, I wish every day I could have done/could do more to help then just call 911.If I were invulnerable and had no fear of pain, injury, or death (though I've met people who didn't fear them despite no invulnerability) then I would leap over every criminal in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, I'm just a normal guy in the real world.
At least, I wasn't among those who complained to no end to the police about being inconvienced as they were questioned about the incident I mentioned earlier, and some even took out their cameras and phones to take pictures of the body. Some people don't even seem human.
