Watching it tommorow night (well technically tonight)! Glad you had a good time, I've been looking forward to this since it was first announced. I've seen all the Fast and the Furious Movies in the theaters.

They do at least did, no Time Lord is allowed to enter a time span and location vicinity his past self is currently in, exceptions are usually due to a weird time misshap, use of a time scoop, and the Pandorica box.

Quote:I find it funny when people forget that celebrities have many many people behind them that act "on their behalf" without consultation with the artist, and that has lead to a lot of misinterpretations. My cousin, who was a soap opera star in another country, had several papers claiming he was gay because his "people" wouldn't deny it (even perpetuated the idea) for fear that it might be interpreted wrongly as that he was against homosexuality, and in the hopes it would boost his persona with a demographic that was fast falling in love with him. You can imagine the backlash from my aunt against his "people" after that.I don't think Lady Gaga herself ever objected, it was her agent, acting on his own. Similarly, the Coolio problem was caused also by an agent acting on their own without consulting the artist (though in the opposite direction).
Something similar happened with his parody of James Blunt's "You're Beautiful", in that Blunt loved the idea and said go ahead, but Blunt's record company leaned on Weird Al's to make them take it off the album (which just led to him releasing it for free instead...) because they apparently didn't want him to be seen as a "one hit wonder". -

Quote:I do remember on one episode (I forget which), Tennant mentioning that the Time Lords were constantly getting killed then regenerating to fight again during the Time War as if it were a continual thing. So I assumed that meant that the limit for regeneration was removed at that time. With later revealing that Rassilon was revived to lead the Time War, its not a big stretch to put 2 and 2 together.Indeed, it was a physical limitation set in place. Rassilon had the power to make such defining rules. Still, there are any number of ways to explain getting around such a limitation. Especially for someone clever enough to have thwarted both Rassilon and Omega in his lifetime.
In "The Five Doctors" they do mention that Rassilon's immortality was something he discovered therefore making it seem the limit is not something imposed. -
Actually (having watched “The Five Doctors” again this morning), they mentioned Rassilon having "perpetual bodily regeneration". Obviously, Rassilon still able to get a face lift from his appearance in "The Five Doctors" and when he returns as Timothy Dalton.

Quote:That's right, Borusa was the one seeking eternal regenerations, and the Master joined seeking the same for himself. Rassilon probably did set the limit or regenerations, but by the actions of Borusa and the Master, it seemed to be less "a rule" and more a physical limitation set.At first I wondered if it was the Doctor himself in the spacesuit, as if he'd bargained off a couple hundred years of being him to some other being and was closing the deal. Now I'm beginning to wonder if the young girl in the spacesuit is actually a young River and it was River who killed the Doctor.
Actually, I believe it was the President of Gallifrey who organized that whole ordeal. And as I recall, it was Rassilon himself who set the limit on regenerations. -
What I find weird is they're making this season out to be one that they answer all questions about River Song when River called Matt Smith's doctor "Baby Face" during the Weeping Angels episode.

Quote:Limited regenerations was not a Time Lord rule. There was only one Time Lord previously that had unlimited regenerations, that was Rassilon. During the 5 doctors, The Master had the Doctors break into Rastalon's tomb (sleeping chamber) to try to get the secret of unlimited regenerations from him. If it was just a rule, The Master would not have needed to do that, as he's not one to follow Time Lord rules anyway. Also, the Time Lords did not offer the Master more regenerations, but instead offered him a fresh Time Lord body (probably a cloned one) with a full set of regenerations. The Master's original body has long lost all his regenerations and died off. He's been sustaining himself by jumping into bodies of other races. The last body we saw him possess (before he got the new body) was that of a symbiotic space slug that went into the body of a Paramedic (played by Eric Roberts) during the Paul Mcgann pilot movie. Also it's been years since I actually bothered to look into time lord lore (not since Baker) but I don't believe the extra regenerations will be a problem. If I am remembering correctly there was a time when Time Lords didn't have a limit to the number of regenerations they could undergo. But a limit was placed on them by the council because of increasing instability as regenerations progressed. The council even offered the Master more regenerations if he would just stop being a bad guy. With no more council and no more time lords there might be no more limit.
I'm pretty sure the Time Lords have unlimited regenerations now (as stated by the Doctor on Sarah Jane Chronicles), because they were given that when they woke Rassilon up to lead the Time War against the Daleks. What better way to beat a race of ever perpetuating enemies then to have a force that do not ever die. -
I've watched every episode of Doctor Who since William Hartnell and Susan...so yeah I've seen them all! Sarah Jane was a big part of my deluge into the Doctor as she has traveled with more of them than anyone on its long run, and fully expected to see her appear with a few more. She will be missed.

Quote:Maybe she will even sext Steve Trevor with her smart phone!Obviously Lynda had plenty of "appealing assets" to attract viewers on that level.
But my guess is that they had her do those other kinds of things as a way to try to modernize the character and make her seem more "in-tune" with things happening in the 70s. This is why I fully expect to see this new Wonder Woman doing things like tweeting, dealing with reality-based 24-hour news cycles and confronting terrorism. They will adapt her to the realities of 2011, for better or worse. -

I hear ABC maybe putting in some Marvel series... so its also possible that the station might have another show in their belt for next season that No Oridinary Family would be a good follow up or lead in to.

Quote:The treatment didn't cure Dr. King's cancer just kept it at bay, he was dying during long exposures without the formula. They didn't really say what Joshua's terminal ailment was. As for what gave him more powers, I assumed Dr. King always had in his disposal all the powers possible, he just lied when he said that the formula only treated his cancer.I enjoyed the series. I did find Jim's inability to hide his face a little bothersome, but he usually did super-acts with few people around, so I gave it a pass.
I didn't realize the other night was a season finale (it seemed like one, but they never let on in that it was). I have to say, it was the worst episode of the season. Too many things felt rushed and conveniently made up on the spot.
First, Dr. King goes from not being able to "not die", to suddenly having the whole family's powers by getting an extra injection. This made no sense with everything done on the show up to this point. When Stephanie received a shot, her power increased, she didn't exactly get new powers. And she certainly didn't get multiple new powers. It felt like a contrived way to add suspense.
Second, when Dr. King gets injected with the cure, his cancer comes back at an accelerated rate?? It makes no sense. If that's the case, then why didn't Joshua get his ailment back when he was cured (which took a much longer time to happen than with Dr. King)? It was mentioned his life was saved from receiving the injections, so whatever was causing him problems should have come back.
Third, the government shows up to ask for the family's help. Sounds nice and all, except that Stephanie saw a future in which Jim inadvertently exposed his powers and the government hunted them down to ultimately decide whether they should be killed or used as government property. This future was avoided, but suddenly we see that the government must have known about them all along?
If the show does come back, I'm concerned it's going to get the Hero's treatment. Great first season, then a complete mess after that.
As for the government trying to asking to recruit them on one hand and hunting them on the other hand, there's a big difference between the government's reaction from learning about superbeings, and the government's reaction of the public learning about superbeings. In the future world where the family was exposed to the public and branded as terrorists, the government was still trying to recruit them as weapons, but with the public knowledge of the Powells, they just didn't have to be so nice about it. -
The SyFy version of Being Human is actually very good. Yeah...I dared say it.
Then, I also remember SyFy also cancelled Dresden Files, and should burn in heck for that. -
Quote:By baseball bat, I meant the one behind the counter at the 7-11 I used to work at, and by backup I mean the police or person I was working with, a 60-year old man (who was usually holding the bat) and/or my friend who worked at the gas station across the street. Most other times that I've helped people outside of the 7-11, I was typically alone and weaponless, unless you count that time I threatened a guy with a crowbar, who at the time was severely beating his girlfriend in a motel parking lot, or that time I stopped a purse snatching by threatening the thief by aiming my car at him and reving the engine.I'm glad to see that you've made it this far confronting people at night with a group of friends and a baseball bat but that's not the message that should be going out to people... I've seen both sides and discourage it greatly.
Again, in an age of cell phones and camera surveillance, there is a minimal need for people to wade into the thick of it. Call 9-1-1 from a position of safety if the situation calls for it. Don't let delusional thinking (or arrogance, overconfidence, routine) get you hurt. And don't mislead other people into getting themselves hurt.
And again, every situation is not confrontational or dire; so if 9-1-1 would be overdoing it and wading into the thick of it is not going to cause confrontation; then by all means... close the gap.
But running around with bats, stun knuckles, shields and/or a gang of buddies; trying to look all scary and intimidate people out of doing something is going to get someone hurt; even if it isn't you. -
Quote:I just realized from your post it sounds like you're scared for yourself therefore scared for them. Fear is what keeps people from doing the right thing. What if I get hurt? What if I make it worse or there is retaliation? What if I get in trouble? These are questions that run into your mind when put in situations at their most dire.[My job does not allow us to follow suspected shoplifters beyond the main doors for safety reasons. Domestic violence calls are one of our PDs big cautionaries. People are always advised not to approach fugitives and/or suspected offenders, etc... in short, the authorities would prefer that many, if not most, actions be left to the authorities.]
I've been there, only to end up torturing myself with guilt many times after knowing I could have done more if I didn't let these things get to me. It felt like a part of me was dying each time. Some people come up with excuses after why they don't help to help justify their inactions, but deep down they know that not doing anything was wrong...it's against their core belief system, at least I hope it is.
I'm not among those mentioned that go out in costume looking for trouble, but I can tell you stories of when I didn't help, and I can tell you stories of when I did do something, and some in between. Maybe it's cause of growing up reading comic books and watching superhero cartoons, but helping always felt way better than not. Maybe that's why these people are doing this, they're looking for a way to feel better about themselves, cause they've felt the alternitive. With a costume they can do so as another person, as they don't like what they've seen in themselves or in the others around that persona. -
Quote:The main reason I never got hurt was I never had to fight. I usually accesed situations quickly and handled most of them by just talking it out, and other times I had the police on the way before I even approached them. I don't miss the convenience store job (its been over 15 years since I worked in one), but I did gain many of stories from then, and this strange fearlessness around guns. I've had many pointed at me threatingly when I had been working at the store, and a quite a few since, without even a butterfly.I have a friend that's sitting in the pen for manslaughter because he hit a guy, that was trying to break up a fight between him and another guy (over a girl), so hard that the guy went coma, then died a week later.

I think one of the reasons Troy has become such a friend to the RL Superhero community might be cause he had worked as a graveyard clerk like I did...so we relate to them. -
I've broken up lots of fights and intervened many times in domestic abuse situations, it was part of the job when I used to work the graveyard shift at a convenience store located between two bars. I guess my 7-11 outfit was sorta a costume. I usually had backup, a bat, and can talk my way out of most situations, so never got hurt, but some co-workers I knew had, they were black belt martial artists so were prone to the violent or threatening solutions first.

Quote:Do you know how to stop someone from bleeding out in a parking lot? I sure don't, and no one there seemed to know either. Even the 911 operator couldn't/wouldn't help me, even when I begged her to connect me with someone that could. Her priority was to collect information of what happened, and to access the current situation for when the police arrived. The police's priority is to secure the area and make sure it is safe for the paramedics. The safety concerns of everyone probabably didn't mean anything to the victim. That is what first aid is for. It is not to cure a person, but to keep a person alive long enough so that paramedics can stabilize them.
I can only hope if anyone playing City of Heroes witnesses something like this, they will take a lesson and do the right thing. If they don't, I'm sure they'll come up with plenty of excuses why they didn't -
In the case I was witness to, 10 minutes for the police to come from when I made the call. Doesn't sound too long, but the guy stopped breathing in less than 5 minutes, and it took the police another 10 minutes to make sure the area was secure before they let the paramedics in, by that time the poor guy was DOA for sure. I don't blame the police, this is just the reality of what happens when someone is shot...I just wish I could have done more to help.

Quote:Except from my experience, normal people do not do any of that, instead they use such excuses or make others to not to lend a hand to feel justified by their inaction. Those that do take pictures do so for profit or to show off their "adventure", not to aid. Its those that do what general people think is insane, that stand up for others. Costume or not I'm glad for those that risk life and limb to help others...the way I look at it, the ones in costume or uniform are just pronouncing their commitment to it.It is based on ability not intent. If you can handle yourself in a fight or have the proper rescue training and want to help someone from harm, then they should help, but if you are an average person that can't do anything, then take a photo of the crime in progress, run away, then when it is safe to phone, call the police. All rescue training involves making sure you are safe before rescuing someone else. It doesn't make any sense to try to save someone in a sour gas leak if you are going to collapse from being poisoned. Instead of one person to be rescued, there is now two.
