i got 1 in cloak and 2 in targetting drone (for exemping pre stamina) but i think targetting drone has the higher eps anyway. 1 acc in all attacks is still needed i think with targetting drone otherwise its those recharges making up for some missing and as a squishie blaster i sometimes cant afford to miss.
[/ QUOTE ]
A quick check on the hero planner tells me you're correct. TD costs 0.286 end/sec compared to CDs 0.238. -
[ QUOTE ]
Doesnt need end reds if you have stamina.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh yes it does if it's running targeting drone and cloaking device. Those two powers should have at least one (preferably 2 in cloak) end redux's each. -
Spacedog makes the case better than I could. The totality is what's all important, now how good Nova is compared to a blaster or dwarf compared to a tank. That is simply limited thinking that leads to limited playing.
Dwarf and Nova are nothing more than 2 rather powerful powers in powesets that are littered with other excellent powers.
Their asset is versatility. You (Duffy) call them a 2nd rate tank. How many tanks can nuke an entire spawn? You call them a second rate blasters. How many blasters can loose off 2 AoEs, 2 cones and then ride out the agro?
Lets call a scrapper the middle AT in this scenario.
Where does that fit in the team? Wherever the player MAKES it fit for its the player's SKILL and not his AT that's the defining attribute as to whether he's an asset. I think Kheldians show up skill level much more prominantly than other ATs. -
40% damage bonus is enough reason for me. At 30th lvl Nova is my primary form with Dwarf being secondary if I pull to much agro, especially on missions with +2/3 (or more) mobs, and can't see that changing too much at least in the near future.
-
Agreed that it's largely useless is a primary travel power and that its main use is as a "I'm-a-superhero-get-me-out-of-here" power, but it is good as a secondary travel power, for when you've come out of the mission and went streaking off to the next one and the poor sod that wasn't quick enough off his marks take the full brunt of an ambush. More than once I've turned around and fired off QF for the flight speed boost.

I'm simply getting FED UP with Heroes fleeing back to the Hospital zone repeatedly if their health drops below 10%, even if they are there in far superior numbers!

Hardly a hero phenomenon. Villains are just as bad. I get annoyed with ppl running back to base because it's something I never did to escape an enemy. I'd run, but never off the battlefield, but that's just me.
Anyway, I gave up PvPing months ago. Too much min/maxing and base hugging for my liking. -

Having previousy got a warshade to 33 and deleting it because it sucked I can say that imo, Khelds and warshades are sucky versions of a tank and blaster. The dwarf forms are resitricted to 4 attack powers (which need slotting badly) and a useless taunt and now i think blasters outdo them no probs with defiance. They are both an exremely unepic AT which i found do not fit in to teams very well. When people recruit to their team i find that if they need a tank, they go for a tank not a warshade or Pb and same with blaster. When i recruit for taskforces I usually go for Pbs and warshades as a last option, except for posi because the nova form isnt so bad.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've noticed a lot of people seem to play Khedlians vert statically. In that during the course of a mission they pick a form and stick with it. Myself, I'm constantly shape shifting which each form offering a very situational benefit.
I can nuke a even level spawn in 2 shots, when I have some spare slots I'll put some damage boosts into the human form AoE as well. Couple that to build-up and you have MASSIVE multi-target damage potential and of course if that's not enough you can drop down and Nova the survivors. Of course, if it all goes pear shaped (assuming you haven't Novaed) you can flick on Quantum flight and ride out the backlash until the rest of the team pick up the agro from the now heavily damaged spawn.
My opinion currently is that ppl tend to think of them as 2nd grade blaster or 2nd grade tank is becuase they try to play them as a blsster or tank, when quite clearly they're neither. They, imho, have to be played as what they are; something entirely different.
My PB is 28th lvl now and her survivability has just taken an enormous jump (thanks to QF). I don't see her being noticeably outdamaged by blasters. I've seen her do some fairly admirable tanking and I've seen her take a beating and thanks to three self heals be back to full strength in less than 10 seconds (and that's without them being fully slotted).
They're clearly not for everyone, they're very different from other ATs, but for me my PB is a dream. I spent 50 lvls as a regen scrapper who I loved dearly but when I go back to him now my thoughts are with my PB -
[ QUOTE ]
Not sure that's true, pre-granite you're almost entirely Def based, pretty easy for a large amount of damage to get through especially if you're fighting above your level, which typically you will be; that applies all the way to level 30.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well if the Alpha strike from a typical (above your lvl) mob is enough to inflict more than your basic HPs then you're in trouble with or without Earth's embrace as right after the alpha strike you'll be facing an almost intact load of spawns with 30% health.
Better have plenty of greens or someone with a decent heal on standby.
The other thing about alpha strikes is that it's staggered. Even if you accumulate enough damage to overwhelm your basic HPs you still have a few seconds to react. Unless you're facing something that can one shot you, and if it's not an AV odds are you're in over your head anyway. -
[ QUOTE ]
Unless that alpha strike does more damage than your total HP, in which case you won't get a chance to use EE
[/ QUOTE ]
Obviously, but this is an atypical situation, unless you're fighting AVs or your shields are slotted particularly poorly.
For the rest of the time; better to hit it after the alpha strike. -
[ QUOTE ]
It takes an awfully long time to get to Granite! If your running Stone Skin, Rock Armour and Rooted your probably one of the weaker Brute sets out there in regards to absorbing an alpha strike.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hence why it's better to heal AFTER the alpha strike than before. You're STILL going to take the same amount of damage but in the latter case you can't heal any of it. -
[ QUOTE ]
EE and all the +max hp powers are best used I find before a scrap to buff your hit points so that you are capable of withstanding the mobs alpha strikes. In this sense its great.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would say it's better to use just after the alpha strike as it'll heal some of that damage as well as boosting your HPs.
We are talking about a stone brute aferall. He should be able to withstand the alpha strike unboosted. -
[ QUOTE ]
Must admit that its more viable for WS to go triform than it is for PBs
[/ QUOTE ]
Not sure how you reach that conclusion, or maybe I'm not understanding right. My PBs now 26th lvl and tri-form and having no problems, the human aspect being used only for buffs at the moment. The Nova has plenty of firepower and the dwarf is perfectly able to tank. -
[ QUOTE ]
Basicly the things that you mention there can also be things people dont like. Its not 'supreme' in anything, its avarage in blasting, tanking, scrapping etc. Thats a thing that some just dont like, adding the fact that toggles dont go along into dwarf/nova is pretty annoying.
[/ QUOTE ]
Being unable to use self buffs when in Nova/dwarf form is annoying and switching form to use them can be an awkward affair if you haven't got your binds set up, almost certainly impossible to do in the middle of a fight.
I think with a bit of planning you *could* outblast the majority of blasters running around out there - especially now, after ED, but it involves some quick form changing which isn't easy. And I think that's the reason they're not more popular; their not as easy to use to their full potential as other ATs. Of course, being epics I see that as being the point, they're supposed to be more challenging to play.
On more than one occassion I've been on a team. We've been facing the next spawn, I've went ahead and nuked the entire spawn in two shots (happens especially if I've had fortitude cast on me) and people have commented that they didn't know squiddies could do that.
And I think most squiddies can't - certainly not by their early 20s unless they've specialised. -
That's why I love it so much. As mentioned before I'm a dwarf/nova specialist. You're right, the Nova can't blap, but it doesn't need to a quick costume change to dwarf means you can tank and complete set a set of shields that are the stuff of blappers dreams.
The dwarf is pretty tough with a fast acting self heal and if it finds it's lost agro then, we'll, back to Nova for some firepower. That'll soon get the mob's attention.
I find a well played Kheldian flirts with overpowered but isn't, and I've found this out first hand. JUST as you're your really starting to enjoy laying waster to all and sundry, up pops a void/quantum that just completely interrupts the tempo. If the team don't react properly I have to switch to dwarf form when the nova is what's needed and focus on the Void myself whilst bosses and Lts start chewing up the rest of the team.
Honestly I've seen a team going great, plowing through mobs like there's no tomorrow, come crashing to a faceplanting halt when we ran into a void and didn't react quickly enough to it.
IMHO a skillfully played Kheldian can be more of an asset to a team than any other single AT. Which is right and proper for an EPIC AT. -
[ QUOTE ]
Except that you can only activate QF once in human form, so it may be too late to hit the button once you have switched ... I'll try it out later and let you know how it went ... may take the form of a /tell saying I'm on my faceif it does work though it would be a pretty effective use of the power, also would give you the option to leg it as well.
[/ QUOTE ]
Providing it works the same was as energy and combat flight it shouldn't be an issue. Currently I've got the Numpad 0 set up to take me from Nova form to human form with energy flight already running with a single keystroke. -
I'll be taking it anyway and slotting it for recharge redux. Since I play in nova and dwarf form primarily I have to switch back to human form for self buffing. This can be especially difficult in dwarf form when I find myself surrounded by mobs, health's dwindling - human form has two heals but switching could mean suicide or taking on so much damage that it negates the heals.
QF will be a nice way to switch, get buffed and switch back without leaving myself temporarily almost defenceless.
I can see it also being a nice panic button if a quantum or void takes me by surprise -
Thanks for that tip. I didn't realise there was a growing cost so dug a bit further and found Q-flight was sleath nerfed last year so that you get 45 seconds before the end costs start to increase and you can expect to be out of End less than 45 seconds after that
-
I've heard Quantum flight is a bit of an endurance hog, but how bad is it, if slotted with End redux is it possible to run it continuously?
-
I'm glad to hear someone say that. Now at lvl25 I'm struggling to see why Kheldians earned their bad name. I find them to be ENORMOUSLY versatile.
The dwarf is a perfectly adequate tank, better defences than a */fire tank and with a self heal that's easily the */fire tanks match I find I'm perfectly able to tank against almost anything, and for something I don't like tanking against I can always switch to Nova form and do some stand-off blasting.
Come 28th lvl I get Quantum flight for those awkward moments. I mean, they just keep getting better and better. Why so many people I know, get their 50, start a Kheldian and ditch after after a dozen lvls claiming it's boring.
What's NOT to like?
Sorry if I'm getting a bit foamy at the mouth here, but I'm tired of hearing people claim they're a combination of 2nd rate scrapper/blaster/tanker. There's nothing 2nd rate about them, if built right these things could be truly epic, certainly it looks that way from 1/2 way through the lvls. I'm looking forward to that plase in the lvls where you start getting powers of 3rd lvl and 3 slots for the other two. I can finally start getting everything slotted right
I suppose it comes down to a bit of specialisation. You can do 2 things very well, but if you try to do 3 then you'll be second rate? Maybe? Thoughts, comments? -
I have a lvl25 tri-form, the human form being the least developed, nova being the most. The dwarf only having had additional slots put into the form and the self heal (defence over firepower in that form). I'll use the dwarf if the foes are heavy hitter of if I'm SKd, or if there's a quantum in the area and the team im with aren't too reliable when it comes to taking them out.
The human form is used primary for self buffing and I;ve got binds set up on the keypad allowing me to switch from Nova to human/flying, key hasten, essence boost, conserve energy and buildup before swtiching back to Nova and laying waste to a spawn.
I plan to slot the human form AoE and bind it so after hitting build up and switching to Nova and loosing off the two AoEs I can swtich back to human for the final attack before build up expires. This should be enough to outblast the majority of blasters in the game and if there's a friendly controller on the team who's locked down the spawn should be enough to almost vaporize all but the lieutenants and bosses in even a +2 spawn in less than 10 seconds. And once I hit 28th lvl i'll switch back to human form in quantum flight mode and be immune to the survivors wrath
Now that, imho, is firepower. Lets see how many blasters can match that
Of course, it's only theory at the moment. -
Oddly I've had the opposite on my PB when in Dwarf form.
"Stop tanking so we can pull!"
"Dwarfy SMASH!! Dwarfy CRUSH!!! Dwarfy STOMP!!!! Sorry, did you say something?" -
[ QUOTE ]
But it's not your place to tell them when to use each of their powers.
It's like saying to a scrapper, right use your 4th power now, aren't you going to use your AoE? You seem to have forgotten your AoE again.
Surely everyone can play how they want to? Giving advice on how to play better is one thing, but telling someone what to click and when is rude.
[/ QUOTE ]
Your reading in what wasn't there. I had hoped with the fortitude prod he'd get the message, so I prodded further with an RA prompt, I then prodded a bit further with CM. Obviously I was being too subtle as he wasn't buffing on his own initiative and heals weren't particularly forthcoming. This is POOR defending, plain and simple.
Saying "ppl can play how they want" is a non-argument, of course people can play badly if they want, but it's STILL playing badly.
To fill out your analogy it'd be like a regen scrapper being careful with his heals and attacking purely with brawl. You want to call that good scrapping?
And the way I look at it, if you don't want to be a buffer then don't play a defender, or rather, take a primary set that specialises in debuffing. -
[ QUOTE ]
Someone without certain powers does not make them a bad player, and saying in game that someone is a bad player because of the powers they have taken is wrong.
[/ QUOTE ]
No one but you has mentioned not taking powers. I'm talking about NOT using the powers you DO have when it's obvious the team is needing them. -
[ QUOTE ]
If he wasn't healing then I'd be a bit irked as well, but if he was actually contributing by blasting instead of buffing, I'd tell you to shut your cakehole and let him play the game he wants to play it.
[/ QUOTE ]
He can, but he'll still be a bad player and as such not wlecome on any of my teams. A GOOD player would have known which of their powers were needed the most at any given time.
Am I not allowed to call a bad player a bad player anymore?
