Oh I will at some point. I have over 2000 brainstorms left and more salvage left in the racks. In addition I rarely delete toons, so several of them still had a full dish of E-chips this superbowl sunday.
-
Hellos all. Had a crazy idea and went with it the other night. Please bear with me as I explain. Recently I noticed that salvage prices redside seem to be rather high and supplies rather low. Now normally this would be a nearly ideal situation for me as I don't really use IOs and sell salvage and recipies. But like I said, I got a wild hair of an idea and went with it on a whim.
It occurred to me that what was ideal for me might be a serious barrier for those new to the game and crafting/market system. And noticing this, I decided to do something.
Up to this point, this is all based on fairly basic observations and opinions that anyone might have done. What isn't is the resources I recalled I could bring to bear. Seems I never really converted my top 100 VG's base salvage into brainstorms, let alone brainstorms into salvage. Over about a 27 hour period I posted about 700 pieces of common invention salvage onto the BM, all listed at 1 inf.
Ended up making over 3 million and stopped when I sensed demand stopping.
Mostly just wanted to post a record, but comments and questions are welcome. -
Quote:Current SG limits are 150 member characters. It appears this number has changed, as my SG has 88 members. I seem to recall the number 200, can that be correct?
Unfortunately this guide has gotten a tad outdated simply because so much has happened with SGs since it was written. If I can get the time, I (or someone else) could write an updated version. The only problem is Going Rouge is looming and we have no ideas how that may affect SGs. -
Quote:Awesome news! Welcome to Victory, the only server with it's own emote! You know, I have posted a thread on several of the other server sections, and this is the first server to actually be civil about Roleplaying. I am won over by the general comments and am very pleased. I believe I have found a new home and will be bringing my main over to this server effective immediately.
Just for those that would like to know, I will be on Redside primarily, as my main in a villain. But I do plan on playing a BlueSide toon from time to time.
ADDED
My redside character name is Syns. Or you can add me globally at @Savarius
On top of everything else, I also have my own Internet Radio station where I was thinking about doing some Podcasts or Videocasts of CoX, or dedicate a show or 10 to whatever server I decided to play on. And after speaking with a lot of individuals in game, Victory is the new home. -
Anyone? Well the odds are in favor of yes. Will you find them? That's where your odds take a nosedive I'm afraid.
Quite frankly my experience has been folks on Victory inquiring about RP are usually directed to Virtue. You are still VERY welcome to play here, but I can't say to expect to find many RPers here.
Note for technical accuracy and completeness of answer we do have MRP folks, but not in any greater number than most other servers. (Yeah Virtue "wins" there too.)
We have a LOT of great things to recommend Victory, just not our RPing population.
YMMV. -
Heh, yeah I have a toon with that piece as part of an armored battle bikini. What can I say? Project A-Ko was a huge influence!

Speaking of next time, I have a thought. Since this event WAS so popular (and if I didn't say it before, good job!), it follows the next one may be even more popular. Now this doesn't sound like a problem until you hit multiple instances.
The only solution I've been able to idly ponder for this is having a 2nd MC and set of banks ready, with the MC at least on vent with MP. Won't solve door prize issues, so maybe someone else may have a better solution. -
Quote:I bought Kybarsfang, formerly known by the abbreviation HFX. He knows me from the Pride channel as @Breaker11. He will be doing his time helping judging costume contests, possibly on multiple servers. (Which is why I asked about multiple servers just before the auction.)Yes sorry about the late notice, my real life has been driving me insane. There were a few people who were auctioned off that were not at the Auction. You have two weeks to contact me to get your 25% of your bid. If you do not, then I will consider you to be donating it back to PERC. The following people missed the auction: Iguanadon (bought by Medieval Power), Chantress(bought by Purple Pride), Kybarsfang(bought by Captain Advert) and Polaris (bought by Peril).
...Ok, he probably would have done it if I had just asked, but sometimes it can be a morale booster to know you are REALLY wanted. -
Lol! Ok for those not yet in on the joke, most AIs for Go can be beaten by young children. So no I wasn't thinking about AI to play against. However it might be nice to have a setting where you can move for both sides without dual boxing. Simply for the ability to set up a puzzel for others to solve.

No dev comments that I recall either, but I do have 2 anecdotes on the topic. I knew of a SG that petitioned to change their own name and was simply denied. I also know of a SG that GOT petitioned and had their SG name genericed and then renamed.
So in theory it clearly seems possible from a technical standpoint. But I think if we extend the logic a little further we can see why there's no incentive to do so. NCSoft would have to pay folks to take the time to change SG names. When I have a problem with the game bad enough that I want customer support, I don't want to wait while an indecisive leader changes their SG name for the 40th time, or some greifer group tries to hide from responsibility for their own evil. -
An idea I posted once before. Board games in Pocket D. I'm thinking Chess, Checkers, and Go.
-
Aye, the Legion are awesome. While I'm not a member, several friends are. Good folks and it's well run too.
-
Oh I've been hyping the idea on Pride basically every time I'm logged on. My hope was to spread it to users of other global channels in case this aspect of SSKing hadn't yet occured is all. Pride's current MOTD is occupied with another topic through the 13th. After that, yes I intend to push for it there too.
Advertising Pride? Wasn't meant conciously but I have a hard time not doing some kind of adwork as a general rule. -
Quote:Exactly right! Thanks for helping to clarify! Super sidekicking will make teaming easier in many ways and this is ultimately just one aspect of that. While I doubt I'm the only one to arrive at this conclusion, spreading the word just seemed the neighborly thing to do.I think I might understand... I think he's pointing out that from a gameplay perspective, a global channel that isn't server specific will run into issues when people want to do more than just chat, and want to organize a team for something. With super sidekicking, level matters hardly little, so if the player has a character on that server, they can just play it. If they don't, they could just roll a new character and join up without having to worry about finding mentors.
I believe that's what he was getting at. The idea isn't really new, it's the application to global channels that before were largely limited to be social gathering places rather than being able to be teaming places. -
Hello all. Shortly after Positron explained super sidekicking, where all team members will be SKd/Exemped/LKd/Mald to the mission owner minus one level, I had an off the cuff idea on Pride channel and feel it is worth sharing. But 1st some background...
Pride is the main GLBT channel in the game and as such we attract players from all servers. While this all inclusive approach is fantasticly successful on a social level, getting folks to actually play together has been difficult.
Now super sidekicking is about to enter the picture and suddenly teaming together just got MUCH easier. The only barriers will be having toons on a server and faction. So if there are other players on Pride or any other globally-oriented channels that haven't had this idea occur yet please enjoy. -
My Elec/Elec brute still uses "Fear my mighty SHOULDER KITTY!" on nearly every use of Lightning Rod.
-
Good uses in PvE are fairly rare and really have to be looked for. I have it on my MM and like it, but I tend to think a little oddly too. I have used it to chase after a running Deathsurge and in a mayhem to get everyone to the exploration badge before/during/after death. As mentioned by others, informing your teammates in advance is the way to go, as you can easily lose any benefit it could give you if your team isn't prepared.
In PvP, base raids especially, it shines a little brighter because of the difference in AI and player reactions. (Humans tend to track things visually and tp disrupts that.) MMs seem to have the best use for it and even then it's considered HIGHLY optional.
One other trivia note for the power is if you slot the +stealth unique, it only grants stealth to the toon with the power, not teammates or pets. -
This was something I asked Ross (The marketing guru at Paragon Studios) about directly. No offline costume creator is coming, period. He was, however, willing to consider an online one. This was in the context of ways to draw attention to CoH at a major retailer.
[Disclaimer: While I do work at said major retailer, I view myself as having no greater pull than any other associate with HQ.] -
Well, I asked Positron about more starting contacts for villains at HeroCon and he said he couldn't comment.
-
First I'd say the Dom forums should have lots of answers on this. Myself, I usually give 2 answers.
1. It's rather hard to describe.
2. Get it anyway. (You know, provided you decide to roll a Plant/?.) -
[ QUOTE ]
The yellows damage is unresistable.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just to chime in on this, there IS a way to get resistance to Mito/Hami damage. Essence of the Earth (EoE) inspirations will provide resistance for a short time. Sorry but I don't know the numbers. These can be had from the markets, or you can get a team together and kill Devouring Earth "Monsters" which are the only natural source. -
[ QUOTE ]
Why is it I continue to run into gamers who have never heard of CoH? Actually seems like almost every gamer I meet has never heard of it, whether they are interestested in the type of game or not.
Somehow the word just isn't getting out on this game.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you were to keep up asking, you might find many, many more games they might like and have never heard of. The point I'm trying to respectfully make is about the nature of advertising in the broader gaming industry which can be boiled down to "new is shiny". The gaming media basically covers the stuff that pays their bills, which is advertisers buying space in their media. Once they have THAT base covered, they can cover stuff they want to which may or may not be CoH.
Now that's a lot gloomier than my posts normally get, so let me get to the good part. YOU are the best advertiser of CoH. That's right you heard me. Now you've got a good 1st step going here, you just need to develop your follow through. Simplest would be to get them to the main site at www.coh.com and check out a free trial. (That's what the marketing department has pushed for.) Then show them all the cool bits that you can think of.
Another option I have been known to use is having a newbie make a costume on my badger, who has almost every costume option unlocked that I can get without shelling out extra money.
Not going to tell you that recruiting new players is always easy, but every new one helps the game. -
I've been working on getting Wally World to put CoH on the shelves for some time. No success yet, but I'm still trying!
When I spoke with Ross at Herocon we discussed the topic as well. With luck, I'll speculate Going Rogue may break the streak we've had. My own current effort could be described as an attempted end run around the electronics department and into my own. But I'm still rebuilding the clout I had when I led a sales category for a year in '03 after a 2 year sabbatical.

One method I've used is to randomly hire 3 judges and just provide the financing. Works fairly well so far. Only criteria I give them is a 1-10 scale with 10 being the highest. Then I just target each contestant with $target, write their scores down, add them up and announce the winners. If I like someone that didn't get picked I work them in as an honorable mention.
No one has accused them of being rigged and my SG members can even compete fairly. -
Just to further answer the original "where" part of the OP, the SG registrars are located in the Atlas Park City hall blueside and the Port Oaks Arachnos building next to the Marconeville marker (Due north of the Arena.).
And I have to agree on the relative unimportance of that list currently. A stock market analogy seems a good fit here... Past performance is no guarantee of future performance. I'd advise you to find a group that fits well with what you want. If you can't find one, well you can always start one!
