You must've missed this thread, a little ways down the page.

And, LoL Mr. Hass... silly rabbit...

MrHassenpheffer - What does the future hold for base editing?

Certain restrictions in base building are being adjusted and/or removed so with that comes some freedom and more options, from an editor perspective, the degree of control and fine-tuning you have in placing items. So that’s one thing. I’ve seen a lot of “creativity” with the way players use one object (or hundreds of them) to act as another so my other plan is to provide more base objects, more textures, and more themed sets. Suggestions?

Unknown_User - So will your leadership have any affect on features like base raids, citadel of pain, items of power, a secret identities system? Will the work on features like these be scaled back in favor of new content?

We’re working on some of that, yes. Given certain limitations of our systems, some features will get love and some won’t.
Please see this thread for reactions from the base community on War Witch's comments.

As for my own thoughts in retrospect:
    • Is she actually crediting the removal of raid pathing as a conscious move specifically to make editing more creative? As if they did it on purpose to achieve that result? HA! It was NOT. It was purely a by-product. In fact, I remember a red name telling us in no uncertain terms that it would most likely be a temporary situation, but that we should enjoy it while it lasts.
    • Then she says she wants to give us more decorative options.... What? like putting beakers on racks that we didn't want beakers on?
    • Then she asks for suggestions... seriously... after all the threads we've had on that subject over the years?
    • I have no doubt that her answer to the second question is in regard to the re-vamped CoP trial. Which is now one of the more controversial TFs in the game. Yeah. We really shouldn't go there.
    • She does not say they are going to put a "large focus" on bases.
    • She does not say they are looking into improving the functionality of bases.
    • She does not say they are looking into improving the base editor.
    • She does not say they are working on fixing any of the bugs that we have lived with for years.
    • She does not say they have read any of the lists or threads that the community has put together over the years (instead, she implies the very opposite).
    • She definitely does not give a timeline for accomplishing anything for bases.
The only base-related thing we've seen since those comments were made 7 months ago is the highly contested re-vamped CoP Trial.
Oh yes, and the latest accomplishment of correcting the swapped prestige costs for Small Steel Lab Tank and Steel Alembic Tank..

    Color me unimpressed.

If the Committee can accomplish everything they set out to, I will gladly applaud their efforts. BUT... keep in mind, Ocho is a community rep, he is NOT a Dev. Only a Dev can truly give us real answers.

This analogy does not hold up to the situation with bases. Have you even bothered to read the stickied thread of consolidated base concerns? (see my sig) It's not just about the "spices". There are bugs in the soup, there are bent tines on the forks, the china is chipped, and the floors need a good cleanup. The food may be "good" but it's not exactly top notch.

"When things slow down..." Are you serious? In case you hadn't noticed, things do not slow down with this game. The devs are constantly working on the next issue, if not the next 2 issues. The only way we are going to get any attention is to flag down the wait staff and call a little attention to ourselves.

Where have you read that bases are going to get a large portion of attention? within the year, no less (that's 3 months)... With i19 & the incarnate system coming up, where has any dev said that they are going to put a large focus on bases? If you can please cite a reference, I will jump for joy.

As for your admonishment for patience, take another look at my opening statement in the big list of consolidated base concerns. The list is based on another list made in 2008. And the 2008 list was from one started in 2007... I don't recall seeing you post in these forums, maybe you just lurk. But you need to do a little more lurking before you start throwing "patience" in our faces.

Right now we are still in the organization and paperwork stage, but since it was being rumored we felt that you guys deserved to know what we are doing. Everyone including the devs are excited about this and we will post more info as it comes.
You.... are already putting together the "paperwork" and discussing the objectives? That sounds almost... formal.

    I'm curious...
how is this committee to be formed?
what qualifications will be required to join?
who determines who will be members?
will the community have any say in the matter?
will it be open to whoever is interested?
or will it just be a select few people who know people?
where can we find information on this?
will you be posting here in the forums, where there is a record of information?
will you be relying on the in-game global?
will there be an "offsite" website?
    or a little of everything?
I know that may all seem a little on the snarky side, but having been on a few committees in the past, these are the questions that come to my mind (along with a slew of others that might be more pertinent later).

It's been my experience that committees inevitably translate into politics one way or another. I'm just wondering how you see this panning out in the long run in terms of keeping the community involved.

  5. Thanks Master Blade. I'll pass that on to him. Could be something in his file path, I suppose.

  6. The lighthouses I've toured are generally simple and rather stark.

Living quarters were small affairs, as they were generally for a single person or a couple.

The towers were usually white washed or painted brick. I assume that is because it best disguises the seeping salt.

So, for walls, I'd go with a brick motif, if you can get the whitewashed look.
Otherwise, I'd do what several designers have done, and make your own inner walls with white & or grey desks.

To break up the starkness, I'd use warmer colored items for furnishings.

  7. If they have, they didn't bother to broach the subject here.

  8. A friend of mine sent me this e-mail this morning:

I tried to export my keybind file in CoH and the whole game crashed.

    /bind_save_file c:\toast.txt

didn't work, so i asked /hc and was told to try

    /bind_save_file_silent c:\toast.txt

and then the game crashed. Just thought that was interesting, I'll keep trying to figure it out later. But if you happen to know what i did wrong I'd love it if you dropped me a line.
Note that he doesn't say he got an error message... the game crashed completely.

Any ideas from the keybind gurus over here? It looks right to me.

Anyone else having problems with the bind_save_file command?

This would describe me... day hikes, weekend backpacking, & short through-hikes. I would NEVER consider bringing an AEROSOL CAN of ANYTHING. Even considering food, eating utensils, stove necessities, & first aid items, I pack as lightly & EFFICIENTLY as possible.

There is nothing efficient, environmentally friendly, or useful about this product.
In my book, it is epic fail.

    .
  • I don't know of any self-respecting backpacker who would take an AEROSOL CAN with them for any reason. Heck, the super serious ones even remove the tags from their clothing to cut down on weight.

And if you're "car camping", well, I still don't see a need for it.

    Useless product is useless.

D'oh! I bind the numberpad all the time... didn't even think of using the control & alt with it... >.<

And I've definintely edited the default file to include my global chat binds for every character I make.

I also have special "power specific" bind files set up, and have one keybind in my default file that I can use to load them up...

    CTRL+B "beginchat /bind_load_file c:\CoH_binds\"

So, all I have to do is type in the name of the file I want loaded up, such as "jump.txt", or "flight1.txt"; or even character specific files like Emily's, which has a complex system of rotating chat binds to recite poetry.

  • There are some excellent suggestions... some of which I was initially thinking of, so I'll second them:

    African Queen
    Princess Bride
    Oh Brother Where Art Thou
    Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
    Truman Show
    ...

    And I'll add:
    Legend
    A Midsummer Night's Dream
    The Taming of the Shrew
    Tootsie
    Cabaret

edit: sorry, I forgot to check the time on those...
  • Have added new notes.

Thanks for helping to keep this list current.

  • Try Mad Scientist's old spreadsheet... some of the prestige cost info is outdated, but most of the other info is still good. Also, notice the little tab links at the top of the sheet.

We do not offer telephone support for general game support issues. Any calls regarding game support will be directed to use one of the available support methods listed in the Game Support section.

NOTE: We do not have a European support number. You must dial your country's International Access Code in order to call support from outside the United States.
So, unfortunately for you they are not open on the weekends. Also their daily hours of operation make a fairly small window. I don't know what your time zone is, but 12-5 Central = 2-7 Eastern, I believe.

Riiiiiiigggghhht! Because this was a MAJOR PRIORITY for base luv...

  • Manticore team did great! We only had one death for the entire TF... and it wasn't me! Though, I do apologize for getting lost on the bigger maps.

I had fun playing with my newly acquired taunt (I've never actually taken it on any of my other tanks). And we had so many tanks with some sort of disorient and slow mitigation, the PP's didn't know what hit them... they rarely went MOG.

  • Question: What happens to a SG base when the last player with an active account cancels his account?

    A) If he renews his account after a while, will the Enhancments and Salvage in the bins still be there?

Yes. But you will need to pay your rent to re-activate and get access to the base.

    B) Will the Base still be there?

Yes.... access will be granted when rent is paid.

    C) If the Base is gone will the Prestige spent building it be refunded?

The only way the base would disappear is if someone sold everything bit by bit... including any enhancements & salvage, down to just the entrance room. The act of deleting is called "selling" because the prestige does get returned to the group prestige fund. I believe the only exception is with crafted items; I think the crafting fee is not returned (and of course the salvage used for crafting is gone).

    D) Will the SG be dissolved or remain intact?

The only way to dissolve the Group is for everyone to either quit or be kicked from the group, and the last member quits as well. Then it is all gone.

Since you're new, I can understand why you might want to see/use someone's pre-existing build. But I think what *most* folks will say is that the beauty of this game is the flexibility of building a toon to fit YOUR playstyle.

    Just start tinkering.

Go to the Archetype forums (a little further down), and read up.

Check out Mid's Hero Designer .

    Tinker some more.

    I hate the AH UI

Here is the thread you're looking for.

And within that thread, someone even consolidated a list of everything folks were griping about. A few items were "fixed" recently, but there are still some outstanding issues.

Bottom line, the UI is still pretty sucky.

    .
  • lol

Up until now, it's been pretty much a "villie only" type of item... and even then, not many folks bothered with it.

The menus need to be redone, period. Whether you go with option 1 OR 2, they need to be redone.
    It is inevitable and unavoidable.

The only question is, do you want to re-vamp the menus now, when your pile of crap is only calf deep?

OR do you really prefer to wait until the pile gets up to your hips?

  • See, my first introduction to the "Nikita" storyline was Point of No Return... which was written by Luc Besson (the writer/director of the original La Femme Nikita). Looking at pics from both films, it seems that the "Nikita" character is purposely cast as a very slender & petite young woman... The slender, unimposing physicality belies the lethal assassin and her iron will to survive.

I enjoyed the TV series with Peta Wilson, but the trailers for the latest rendition of the story didn't appeal to me.

As for Covert Affairs, I've been pleasantly surprised with it.
