  1. Something oddly similar happened to me tonight.

I zoned out of my base via base portal back to Talos. When I zoned into Talos, I was in "limbo". I was stuck in my jump position, which persisted even after I turned SJ off. All I could see was cars, trams, sky (including moon/sun), npcs and other players. There was no other environment.

I tried the /stuck command, and moving around. Apparently, I was able to move in the environment, because hubby targeted me on a building ledge. Upon petition, a GM moved me to the Talos hill, but I was still in limbo on my end.

Finally had to log out of the game. Logged back in on the hill with environment restored. Was the most bizzare thing I've had happen in my nearly 4 years of playing this game.

  2. Thanks to Kanga Red for running the mish team for those of us who didn't quite have enough time/levels for TFing.

We did pretty darn well, lots of dings, and Witty even managed to stay alive for a decent amount of time.

    Good info. Thanks for sharing.

  4. I don't think I ever considered any of my characters as "gods" when I made them.
Most are just extraordinary beings (human or "other").

That being said, one character is an "homage" of a book character that is constantly re-incarnated. She is the only one I am working on for incarnate status.

  6. BAS, have you joined your server's most active global channels?

They have really become a great teaming resource for lots of folks. Many times, a little "hey, could anyone use a lvl 24 scrapper for anything?", will garner some kind of response. Also, folks have been using server channels to collect teams for almost everything from mishes to TF's.

I highly recommend checking out which channels are most active on your server. Sometimes, they have to change up the channels to free up space, so you may want to double check. Most of the server specific forums have them listed somewhere... or, just pop in and ask.

  7. Hmmm....

A friend of mine, who also has very limited time, and spent it all trying to get a RSF started on a certain low-pop server, miiiiiiigggghht disagree with ya.... just a little bit.

  12. In the afternoon news, snow has turned to ice.
    In addition, several blackouts.
    Very, very dangerous out there.

Heh... Originally from Seattle, transplanted to 'Vegas in '98. That year, 'Vegas got a whole whoppin' inch of snow, that lasted for all of 4 hours, and they closed down the schools. It was the "talk of the town". 2 weeks later people were still saying, "what d'ya make of that snow?!". lol

BTW, if you live here, frequenting the casinos as part of your regular social life is a very ... er ... newbish thing. Most folks who have lived here for any length of time get over that pretty quick.

'Vegas had a record breaking summer in 2010: 45 days straight of temps over 110. Everything died. I couldn't keep plants alive even by watering morning and night. I believe it also killed of a lot of the insect life. We usually have an autumn influx of roaches, crickets, ants, spiders, etc. This autumn - nothing.

Okay.... so if you want the "undiminished" double merits, you would still have to choose the merit reward from the table on your first run.

Characters who have unlocked their Alpha Slot will also receive a Rare “Notice of the Well” Incarnate Component.
Hmmmm.... it does seem to be confusing.
The first part implies that you would have to choose the merit reward for your first run (undiminished reward).
The second part implies that the incarnate reward is an automatic addition (as opposed to a choice).

If the incarnate reward is a choice (not automatic), and you choose it on your first run, you lose out on the double merit reward. If you want both rewards, then you will need to run the TF twice and choose the merits on your first run.

Since it's a class project, I'm assuming there is a timeline in which he needs to finish it. He may not be able to delay.

    To the OP:
As some of the posters have pointed out, the question is more involved than just "picking some stuff". There are hidden variables. But as long as it's stipulated that you are just tracking the sales (not listings), you should be okay.

I think the suggestion of picking "mid-tier" salvage is good. Salvage tiers are laid out very nicely on this table in the P-Wiki (yes, I have it bookmarked).

    Good luck on the project.

  18. At the top of my list, as always, is BASE LUV

Please see my sig for links to LOW HANGING FRUIT as well as a comprehensive BIG LIST of things base builders have been asking for since... for-freakin-ever.

In addition, there is a new thread in the Base Forums for discussion on personal bases or apartments. There is also a discussion on the current status and viability of bases. The general consensus arising from that thread is leaning to the idea of starting from scratch.

I know there was the recent effort of re-vamping the CoP, so I can only hope that the Devs have some kind of plan for making Bases more viable again.

I know lots of folks would love to see new shinies for bases. But the reality is that nobody seems to have a handle on the code (the original programmer/designer being long gone). So how much sense does it really make to continue building on the old code that breaks if you breathe on it?

I'd rather have a little LOW HANGING FRUIT (self invites, top/bottom skinned flooring, wall units) while they work on a much needed overhaul of the base system. Bases need to be made into something more robust and engaging.

As part of an overhaul, personal apartments would be a good way to engage more of the playerbase in the creative aspects of this game feature. BUT, we need to balance it with the desire to bring viability to Groups and Group bases. I like the idea of personal spaces being very limited, with the possibility of connecting to a larger Group for more amenities.

On another note, I do not think it's a good idea to have all the toons on a global dedicated to one group. I like the ability to put characters in different groups that suit them. IF, however, the idea is to somehow keep track of how many toons from a global are in a group... that may be a different thing.

    *looks for wishing star*

  19. I was bummin' to have missed out on this, but as I explained to Nursie, I'd already involved myself and another SG-mate in the earlier raid.

    Grats on the accomplishment.

    .
  20. I think the idea is to have something like this alongside bases...

To that end, I would say scrap the "secret lair" part, and just make the link to an SG that the toon belongs to.

While we do want people to get involved in the creative process of building, we also want people to join SG's, not alienate themselves from them. SG's need to be made viable again.

To make the personal apartment appealing, include the costume & trophy display, and I think one salvage rack could be allowed there... but no enhancies, crafting, or TPs.

  21. Heh... I was just telling a friend of mine that I must be spoiled... by my game forums.

I'm kinda the oddball amongst my friends. Though many of us work in the theatrical/entertainment industry in one capacity or another, none of them are what I'd call "gamers". So, I got a laugh and a funny look (gamers, really? lol) when I said that.

But truly, when I go to other sites, whether it be other game forums, pet forums, news sites or whatever... I am always taken by surprise by the amount of vitriol that gets spewed "out there". I know I shouldn't be, the anonymity effect of the interwebs and all, but I am.... because the CoH/V forums have spoiled me.

    .
  22. Just to clarify, I am personally not opposed to starting from scratch.

I was just surprised (not necessarily disappointed) a how many other folks felt the same. I think I expected more resistance to the idea, due to some of the questions I outlined above.

I'd be interested in what kind of responses we'd get in some of the other forums.... Or, y'know, we could start pointing more folks this way.

    .
  23. I know it might seem like I kinda casually tossed this little grenade out there in the other thread (and thank you Azure, for giving the question it's own voice here). But I have to say, I am genuinely surprised at most of the responses.

As some have pointed out, it's a more complicated question than it first might seem.

There are a lot of considerations to "starting from scratch". It's not just a matter of dismantling a base, or getting prestige compensation.

What happens to the roster? How do you move members from one base to the other?
What if someone wants to start a new base, but use their "old" SG name?
    What happens to coalitions?
    What about re-instituting raids?
What happens to the Group badges?
What if someone wants to keep their old base, as some have mentioned, in a locked/museum state? Who gets access or leadership to the museum?

I personally think there are some fairly easy solutions to some of those questions, but others might indeed prove to be a little challenging.

Personally, I wouldn't mind starting over architecturally. And since my Groups are small, I don't even think I'd mind starting over with my memberships (though I'm not sure how the memberships would take it).

    BUT
I can see how it would be extremely difficult to manage for some of the larger Groups out there.

Part of the reason Raiding (& pathing) was turned off was because they tried this solution, and it failed epically.

There are no "simple" solutions for bases and base raids.

    Sorry for the threadjack.
