Quote:QFTYou better bet they do. Random PUGs speed all of the TFs, and do quite well at it.
(Which is a big reason I run fewer TFs now. I hate speed TFs)
As someone who does a lot of random PUG TFs(I play odd hours and usually in 1-2 hour windows) this is how most of the TFs are run. Keep in mind most of these are on Freedom and Virtue. Other servers may be different. -
Hmm....one possibly relevent thing I failed to mention is that my last three level 50s that saved and rolled each had at least 126 million influence as well(175,126,274 if I remember correctly) before rolling. This made me confident that even if the rolls were sub-par I'd still have enough Influence to purchase most or all of the IO's I wanted.
I'm curious though Ironblade. Why level 37? I'm guessing for the purpose of exemping, but I'm a bit unsure. -
Not sad at all. Most people out there have a limited budget on entertainment. This can include many things....movies, smokes, professional games, eating out, museums, bowling, drinks, pool, golf, gambling....CoH is an entertainment like anything else. If you budget for it, it's pretty cheap. On the other hand, if you expect certain results from your investments, you shouldn't be in the entertainment business...try mutual funds...

Quote:The only thing I take issue with is the whole $15 a month thing as a crutch. It's a pittance in today's economy really. Buy two less packs of smokes. Don't go out to eat once less a month. Commute to work. Watch the game on TV once a month...etc. The way I see it, we're paying for nearly 24 hour a day entertainment for cents on the dollar. It's a bargain really. But also keep in mind this game is based on a monthly subscription that adds up every few months to the full price of a stand alone game or another mmo.
Now...don't get me wrong...I came from poor white trash. There were times when we could barely afford basic things like FOOD when I was growing up. If you can't afford to play the game, then don't friggin' play it. If you can, look at what you get before using that $15 month as a negative.
Edit: I have to admit it's much easier for me now to say that $15 a month is a pittance as compared to a decade ago....I make pretty darn good money now. I will say, that I like the game enough that I'd make a sacrifice or two from my vices(mentioned above) to continue playing. -
Quote:Definately the latter(that you do). Sorry I was a bit vague. I was in a hurry when I posted. What I meant was that far too often, what is meant as healthy debate is misconstrued as negative attitude, trollling, or worse. And usually by those that weren't involved in the debate to begin with. Inevitably this leads to namecalling, trolling, and rediculous -rep.I'm not sure how to read this. Are you saying I don't understand the notion of fair debate even with radically opposed views or that I do? This isn't sarcastic, by the way. I really don't know how to read this, and both ways would have rather different meanings and lessons to learn.
I'm stubborn, hot-headed, and impulsive.....and also kind, generous, and empathetic. Unfortunately the former rear their heads more often during strong debate for me than the latter. Soo....I normally sit on the sidelines, letting posters like you(and others) talk for me...usually more eloquently and with more finesse than I have. -
It's unfortunate how many people don't understand this. In general of course. But you specifically as well...especially after reading the majority of your 23k+ posts.

I always roll the 35-39. Not entirely sure that's the best route, but seems to give me the best odds at getting valuable recipes.
-
So..my latest level 50 saved 426 (I think) Merits. This was the result of random rolling. Far better than choosing specific recipes.
Devastation-Acc/Dam/Recharge
Aegis -End/Recharge/Res
Touch of the Nictus-Energy Damage
Force Feedback-Recharge/End
Stupefy -Acc/Stun/Recharge
Lotg -Recharge X2
Decimation -Acc/End/Recharge X2
Touch of Death-Dam/End/Recharge X2
Mako's Bite -Acc/End/Recharge
Pacing of the Turtle-End/Recharge
Ghost Widow's -Acc/Hold/Rch
Aegis -End/Recharge
Expedient -End/Dam/Recharge
Positron's -Energy Damage
Decimation -Acc/Dam/Recharge
Celerity(Stealth)
Malaise -Psi Damage
I know there are some who don't believe in random rolling...I, however, will continue giving myself the best odds at getting the best for my Merits.
Edit: Although not documented until now, this is very average for my level 50 random Merit roll. I always save my merits until level 50, then roll randomly. Of course, I run quite a few TF's. -
I six slotted mine with Efficacy Adaptor End Mod, Acc/End Mod, End Mod/Endurance and Reactive Armor(It was cheap) Resistance/Endurance/Recharge, Resistance/End, and Resistance. I only play on large teams with my PB though, so YMMV.
Not that you'll need this info, but Nova is similarly 6-slotted with Gaussian's and Efficacy Adaptor. I simply don't have end issues in either form.
Edit: This puts me at 55.51% Damage Resistance without teammates. -

This line alone may be part of the negative rep you've received in this thread. It's the reason I avoided commenting before now in the first place. To those that also played the Pen and Paper version of Champions, it's a laughable sentence. There ya go, up front, no rep involved.

Definately a problem for me as well. I hereby motion to dedicate the month of October 'Cursor awareness month'.

Which is what I've done with all my alts...time will tell if the RMTers come up with a new strategy....

Quote:Although this is a bit of a tangent to the thread, this post is very interesting to me. I'm a Casino dealer. And this "poor intuition when it comes to random events" as you call it is amazingly prevelent in the gaming industry. I've seen some incredible things, both good and bad for players. Over the years I'm not surprised by any kind of streak, whether it be lucky or unlucky.Over the years, I've come to the conclusion that most of us have very poor intuition when it comes to random events. We seem prey to several recurring problems.
The first is that we tend to spot patterns in data that don't really exist. e.g. he's luckier than me or I get better drops from Council.
The other is that we expect random events to be more evenly spread than they are. Consequently, we tend to be surprised by how streaky and how unfair random events can be.
Thanks for publishing that Leandro, it's very interesting.
P.S. I have no idea whether Leandro's streaks are what we'd expect or not.
Edit:I've long ago given up explaining odds, randomness, and the uselessness of superstition to gamblers....I'm barely human to most of them. -

Linebacker. And the position I think most of my scrappers are. Either running around, or more likely through blockers to get at the football, whether it's the running back or quarterback with a mad zeal that opposing players fear.

Quote:I really like my Spines/Dark. But throughout his career, he had survivability issues. In large teams, he'd often take too much agro. Solo, I had to tone down the difficulty a bit until I had him pretty well slotted.my suggestion for strong aoe with good survivability is spines / dark.
You get an ultra-strong heal, a good AOE stun, a good AOE fear, some stealth...
about the only problem is the sheer amount of endurance it plows through.
I distinctly remember the high teens/early twenties(like several Scrapper sets) being very difficult.
Yes, at level 50 with IO's, he is taking on +2 Spawns set at 6 players. Quite tough, and a joy to play.
Edit: Eventually Endurance is a non-issue, but it's a bit expensive. -
On my first 50, my buddy was a Stone Tanker who never took Granite. We duo'd sometimes, but more often than not recruited a full team. He was actually pretty tough to take down. And this was before IO's. Of course my character was a Force Field Defender.....

Quote:Well the nice thing about it is if you are teamed and start to run low on end you can always just slow or stop attacking for a bit (let your PA, Phantasm, and Tornado do the work for a bit), ask for blue and very likely, especially on many RO teams, have one or more teammates who have a +recovery powers and when not teamed but solo then well you can selectively turn off leadership toggles as needed.
In fact the leadership toggles in a team setting are a bargain in terms of end cost and efficiency when compared to using Blind, Deceive and Spectral Wounds as an attack chain. Running Steamy Mist (0.30), Assault (0.27), Tactics (0.22) and Maneuvers (0.39) costs a total of 1.18 end/sec. Now take a peek at any of those 3 attacks and compare its end/sec costs.
Indeed. I think I'm going to go ahead and keep some of the Leadership toggles. Your build Doomguide was pretty darn close to what I think I'm going to end up with. Appreciate the insights. -
Quote:Good post.Issue 9: I buy an Alchemical Silver for 30K. One week later, an alchemical silver drops from a mob and I sell it for 30K.
Issue 14: I buy an Alchemical silver for 55K. One week later, an alchemical silver drops from a mob and I sell it for 55K.
I don't see the problem here.
( It was, in fact, IMPOSSIBLE to sell a single alchemical silver for 30K at Wents in issue 14, if I recall; the flippers set the buy line at 40K or something like that. )
I'm happy to buy alchemical silvers at 55K, just as happy as I am to sell them at 55K. If it's 30K tomorrow, I'll do that too.
I can STILL outfit a level 33 character for under ten million inf, with IO's that are good from now till the servers go down, and nearly Hami-O levels of goodness.
I can STILL make that ten million by level 33, playing normally and slotting SO's just like I used to.
Let me back that statement up a little bit... I can still have the money for my first set of SO's five or ten levels before I need it, instead of five levels afterwards.
This is pretty much the Big Rock Candy Mountain, where the hens lay soft-boiled eggs and so forth. -

Hmm......I have to make an apology. This specific Coalition of the SG I'm now in has no Leadership requirements. Most do, so I incorrectly assumed that this one did as well. Obviously, this might change my build drastically. I'm gonna reassess accordingly. I need to read the fine print more carefully. :/
Edit:I want to reiterate...mostly to the Repeat Offenders..that I have absolutely no problem with taking specific powers to better help the team...this coalition of Super Groups is based upon maximized team play, and are some of the most amazing team players in this game. Again, my apologies for any misinformation. -
Quote:He sure does. Just glossed over it apparently. Admittedly, I took only a cursary look at the guides, as I was also looking for something a little more up to date.Actually, Tal_N had a very good Illusion/Storm guide. I have a few very minor disagreements, but overall, it is excellent. Smoke and Mirrors Guide

Only one of each here. My PB is called Solipsis, and my WS is called Misericordia(Latin for 'Mercy').
