Most games aren't as bad as he makes them out to be. He has been fairly negative about even very highly reviewed games. It's his shtick. He finds the weaknesses of a game and uses hyperbole to make them funny. He says some nice things about some games but usually between a lot of insults.

The only game I've ever seen where he has given a really positive review to, is Portal. He even says in the review he likely will never give a game such a review. I can't wait to see his review for Portal 2.

He isn't really a game reviewer. He's more of a game satirist or comedian, he just does it in the form of pseudo-reviews. His goal is to make fun of every game, and he does it very well, he is very entertaining to listen to and the graphics are great, but he doesn't do objective balanced or even fair reviews in the slightest.

That said, I have yet to see a positive review (outside fan reviews) Of the game in question. I haven't played it yet, but given what I've read about it, I won't until they let me download the game and play it on a free trial without having to pay for any of it.

It's funny. A while back, a year or two ago I was working on my first Stalker, my main villain, a Claws \Ninjitsu Stalker I rather enjoyed playing. However I found that some mission with ambushes, and Mayhem Missions in general were pretty much unplayable.

A stalker is built entirely around the stealth power. Ever stalker has to take it and the whole thing about being a squishy Melee AT is that you're supposed to get the first hit and it's supposed to do a ton of damage from hide, and you are given things like placate and other powers to help you get back into hide so you can do your massive damage again, to you know, survive more than 2 baddies.

However ambushes, in Praetoria and Elsewhere, pretty much make a Stalker just an under-powered Squishy Melee fighter. Having things knocking you out of stealth from range before you can attack takes away the chance to get a crit at all, much less an AS off. Not to mention the whole thing about being a Stalker was that you aren't supposed to be in direct confrontation, that's for Tankers, Brutes, Scrappers. Stalkers are supposed to fight from the shadows on their terms. But not when you have large Ambushes of over sized groups coming at you guns blazing from range.

At lower levels it's even worse you have less powers to fall back on.

Honestly, at the time I brought this up I was very frusterated with Mayhem missions, particularly with being hunted by sometimes multiple ambushes at once that wouldn't lose aggro and effing long bow would cut me down from range with their rifles and such. I complained on the boards and in game and got some very un-sympathetic responses.

So I'll tell you Sam, I feel your pain, I really do. I have 2 level 50 Stalkers and it's the only AT I simply won't roll again to try new combos etc. They are under-powered and rather ignored by the Devs IMO, and I couldn't fathom trying to play one in Praetoria. I sympathize with your frustration.
  4. I'm glad I didn't see what Arcanaville and StreetClaw are doing when I first started playing or Might have thought I was playing the game wrong.

Damn, I know I'm much more casual than some. But compared to all that I feel like I might as well be just starting. Hell I'm a 63 month vet... (Not the highest I know but still.)

You mean like a better story? Like better casting and some semblance of trying to fallow something from the comics the movie was supposedly based on. Perhaps better acting from top notch actors who all seemed to show up only because of contractual obligations to horribly phone in a piece of junk script that looked like some one over interpreted the smear marks left on a piece of paper that a monkey flung his feces at?

It could have used some major improvements, like not seeing the light of day would have been an improvement for that flick.

Seems like it would have been easier to simply make a new system for a CoH RPg since it'd be based on CoH rather than trying to make another system work in a way it was never meant to.

But that's just me and I know next to nothing about RPGs.

It's not about depleting the resources only of the very rich, but providing an economic sink. Wealth is a generated in a bottom up method for this game. Further, it is important to realize that the crafting is not exclusive to solists, but also traditional farmers. And thanks to the changes in difficulty sliders, they don't need to pad.

You are right in that it's primary intent doesn't appear to be a currency sink, just being allowed that function.

I will say that me personally, I get more currency while solo than in TFs. RNG hates me on the rares. Others in the thread have described easy currency gains while solo.
I guess I must be lucky then, I've gotten more rares and good drops on full teams doing TFs and such than I ever have solo. Not to mention that doing TFs gets me merits and helps me with a lot of cash, so I'm surprised to hear people make more money solo, but then I've never been of the hardcore farming or max INF per hour mentality.

That said, I still dont think this would really work as an INF sink, if for no other reason than the fact that 100m isn't that much to a lot of people, even casual players, and also since notices are easily obtained through other means. Running a WST is much easier than 100m inf plus the 88 shards it'll take to craft

And in that way I feel soloers are getting kind of shafted from this since it's much more difficult to craft this than it is to run a WST, not to mention that Shards already fall less often for soloers, now you need the equivalent of 88 of them? I hope the price changes on this to be honest. If not INF wise then shard wise, otherwise the Solo option isn't much of an option.

Well this seems to be for the die hard soloists that would rather not do TFs and teams etc. I'm not sure the soloists are the ones with the tons of currency, but maybe I'm wrong.
  9. I think we could use animal fur option for "flat" feet or boot options.

I'm sure others are happy to lend their assistance as well.
  11. Yeah, I'm excited for issue 20. Excited for the preview, excited for the trials, 8-16 person trial and 12-24 person trial, epic! Honestly the hole "turnstile" thing seems like a great idea, still curious about how the League thing will work out.

Even still all of this seems great and I can't wait to see new trials and Incarnate slots open!

1.) Any "hints" could be mis-interpreted, and hints doesn't mean that they ever got it working etc.

2.) It's a standard male rig. It doesn't change, the body type doesn't change sizes etc. The problem isn't the animations it's that when a player makes a character they could make it for any size, shape, model the game will allow, which makes it harder to have "working" holsters since the animations could be pulled from different places etc. It's easy to do on a static character, it's not as easy to do for all other characters given the amount of flexibility from character to character.
  13. Yeah, well since they don't seem to add lots of costume parts options in the game for free anymore, I'll take a large number of scabbards and weapons in a pack, VS not having them at all.

That being said, I was more looking for suggestions and ideas here, not a debate about whether it should be in a pack or not. Surely besides quivers, some people have other suggestions for this...
  14. I thought I saw a comment on the youtube page that this is comming out the 23rd of february? Is that confirmed anywhere? Seems odd they'd release the trailer 2 weeks in advance of it coming out, especially after it's been hinted at and teased at so much already. Seems almost cruel to keep showing us this is coming then not give it to us for a while. I know marketing is doing it and all that for their reasons, but normally they don't hype the boosters this much then keep us waiting for it so long.
  15. So not long ago Jay left one of his cryptic long messages on some other web page and it hinted at a lot of things. Including the now confirmed Animal pack and what seems to be a steam punk back that has been heavily hinted at if not officially confirmed.

Another thing he hinted at was scabbards for weapons. I know many of us have been wanting some holsters\scabbards for some time. So I thought it might be fun to discuss what we'd like to see, specifically. Maybe nothing will come of it but I do like seeing people's ideas.

I must admit I saw some costume pieces like this in another game recently and I liked them. So here is what I would like to see in CoH.

    - Katana (Straight and curved) Scabbard on the back. Personally I want a handle with it but I know some would want it to appear "empty".

    - Double Katana Scabbards (Straight and curved.) Diagaonally on the back, paralell to each other like the Tsoo ninja's have.

    - Katana Diagonal on the back, and tanto\wakasashi scabbard horizontal across the lower back.

    - Broad sword scabbard on the back.

    - Axe on the back (IE Infernal or Valkyrie.)

    - Dual pistols holsters.

    - Dual revolver holsters (Cowboy style)

    - Tonfa's on each hip at the belt.

    - Chest straps with large knives in them.

    - Gloves with shurikens

    - Gloves with Crossbows (Like Knives of Artemis)

    - Boots with knives

Also such a pack might include new weapons models, especially for the ones that need more options, Dual pistols and such.

I'd love to see some glowy assault rifle and dual pistols weapons. I'd also love to see more glowy Blade weapons, like the Vanguard weapons but different varietys, maybe like electricity blades etc.

So I suppose that's a fairly extensive list but I'd love to see what others would like!

  17. I just hope the animal patterns are color tintable. I would normally not doubt such a thing but so far all the pics I've seen, the animal patterns are very "natural" colors. Gold lions, orange tigers, white bird head, black furred minotaur, grey wolf. So I hope that this is just samples but the finished product can be changed.

I really want to make a white\blue wolf, and black and purple panther, among others.
  18. Lions and tigers and werewolves, Oh My!

And did I see a minotaur option in there? I'm psyched now.

I go on my support corr, and only able to really excel at even con. So with your plus for you get a higher chance not just for shards, but for purples, and other drops. While I just get the normal rate.

It would not be totally for for the other PCs, which would push the idea, the game is going away from the casual player (in hindsight of other threads which are cropping up). Which would put a divide in the player base.

Also how can you gauge risk? I saw a guy that was soloing +8's. How do you gauge that? How do you gauge soloing AVs and GMs since that would have to be put into effect also.

There is to many metrics and ways it would go people would start gnashing teeth for, which would lead to massive headaches for all, and a different gameplay than what we project into the gaming world.
Keep in mind that there will be more content coming and that content will very likely have stuff to keep level shifted folks challenged and give them something to do.

Secondly, being level shifted doesn't make you more likely to get shards. It makes you able to maybe go through mobs faster, and if other people on your team are level 50 and your rolling level 54, they will get shards and drops too. So it's not like the level 54 will hog all the loot, just do more work, it'd be beneficial.

Third: The level shift is available to anyone. Hell the Alpha slot doesn't really require non casual play, it just requires running TFs already in the game that casual players already do on occasion. Most of the level 50 TFs can be done in 1-2 hours. Then all you have to do is hit the strike target of the week, once and boom you have a level shift.

Lastly, the person with the +1 or +4 earned that. They did the work, they got the rewards including the +1. It's not all that unfair considering they had to do stuff to get that +1, they get to enjoy the perks of their reward.

    Nicely put.

Honestly I agree with this, I did all 4 of the storylines in Praetoria and I found myself deciding based on my own morality, the affect it had on the political landscape, Power VS Reponsibility, Warden VS Crusader, PPD VS Resistance, all that was more big picture stuff, but my main thing was "what is the morality of this, what would my character decide, would me character even care about the ramifications for the factions.

Not really. The WST really only applys to 6 TFs. the Same 6 TFs that people would be doing to get the alpha boosts before the rare tier opened. the Same 6 TFs that were being run since I15, since that's the newest of the TFs involved.

    Statesman And Lord Recluse.
    Barracuda and Dr Kahn.
    Imperious
    Lady Gray.

That's all there is. Unless they include the two new TFs, Tin Mage and Apex. then there will be 8 in the cycle. But that's not a lot of variety even still, though it would be nice if the two newer TFs were in the rotation, it's the same stuff, again. Alpha boost is just a re-hash of old content for the most part.

It's a legitimate complaint, but one the Devs will apparently be addressing in future updates.

Transformers never really died. Since the cartoon in the 80s its gone through several incarnations, Beast Wars, RiD, Armada, and others. They've all more or less been done by the same people who put the original together IIRC. Still Transformers has been really well handled for the most part over the years.

I'm hard-pressed to think of a single instance where an 80s cartoon property was rebooted and it wasn't handled with care--and, dare I say it, sometimes came out a lot better than the source material. The people who reboot these shows, thus far, obviously have a lot of love for these series and have done right by them.
I think for the most part this is really true, but even if it's handled with care, that doesn't mean it's executed well. Some of these people creating these obviously loved the source material but that doesn't make for a good cartoon, IMO Gi Joe Resolute was an example of this. They cared for the material but didn't do it well.

This is something they seem to be doing a lot recently. And I have to agree, it just seems like an artificial speed limit on things.

Like only being able to switch sides once every 2 days. Maybe I wanna blitz all 10 missions and switch sides every day.... And if the Hero\Villain Merit thing is the problem they could just make it a 48 hour cool down for the reward and let everyone else move more quickly if they want.

The Incarnate rewards in general, since many of them require multiple of the same components, IE Grai Matter or Ancient Nictus Fragment, but only allow you to get one every 20 hours...

It's just padding, for what ever reason the developers or the powers that be have decided that even should we want to slog through how ever many hours of content in a day to get our incarnate rewards, we should have to wait a minimum of what ever amount of time to get it.

I personally am not crazy about it, but so it goes.
