Its a genere that has to be updated with a booster pack. It really lacks options.
Steampunk is technologic too. We had cyborg, and the GR costumes were tech too...
I think next booster should be:
    Anime
    Medieval
Medieval or barbaric or roman or norse, something along those lines would be fun.

I'm also thinking we're going to get IDF soon, I keep waiting for them to say "oops, we had that in I20, we forgot to make them available, we'll flip a switch in next patch."

Or maybe I21 will have IDF pieces, but I wants them, they are awesome.

More armor would be nice, any kind really, higher rez of options we have or brand new options etc.

I'd like to see more full helms and full helmets, when is the last time we got new of either of this? CoV? before?

True, but it put him in the position to be the "Hero" without the aid of the computer. And we know he will get it back. Wasn't his dad's computer locked up in Castle anyway?

I really liked this episode, loved chuck saving the day, loved Casey being his usual self, nice back and forth with a new Villain with Decker. All around good stuff. And they finally got married, which is nice.

Saw it coming with him Buying the Buy More.

In 4 seasons this show has developed a lot. Chuck has gone from hapless Nerd who worked at the Nerd herd, his biggest worry was weather or not to go management, who didn't graduate college: to super wealthy, super spy, buy more owning guy married to hot blonde spy, running his own spy company....

    That's good stuff right there.

My only hope is that they don't turn around and immediately put him back in the CIA next season. Last season he left the CIA and the Buy More burnt down, so it seemed like he would be on his own, or on his own with Sarah etc but then within 2-3 episodes he was back at CIA , back ad Buy More and back to a similar formula.

The their's Decker telling him he was a pawn in a much, much larger game, which obviously set's up some intrigue and all. Love the concept, can't wait to see what the big bad pulling the strings is all about. Any odd's on Chuck's dad still being alive some how?

Anyway, solid finale, can't wait til season 5!
  3. So it's not just me....

*Spoilers Ahead* (Don't read if you don't wanna hear stuff about Community or Chuck.)

I've seen a couple people mention Chuck, so I'll say this. I LOVE Chuck. It is my favorite show on TV (followed closely by Archer.) I've got the first 3 seasons on DVD and I managed to get my GF, and my mother hooked on the show and if I had more friends that actually watched TV, they'd get hooked too.

That said, I feel like season 4 was more hit and miss than usual, like the show was just struggling to find itself again in certain parts. I can't remember the episodes specifically, but like the Thanksgiving episode wasn't very good as I recall and a few others

That said, they finished on a strong note.

Community.... I felt most of the season was lost with Chang, now apparently a psychotic but ineffectual man-child, Shirley being knocked up with Chang's possible love child... (Which we all knew it wouldn't be.) Then Pierce's pill addiction. It seemed like they were trying to do too many things at once, did none of them well and left a lot of stuff on the table in terms of story lines or ideas that they didn't develop. Like chang being scitzo in the first couple episodes, then just being sad and pathetic.

The KFC episode was awful, not just because of the product placement but the whole concept was pretty bad. And they just sort of dumped the idea of Jeff learning to be a better person this season, since last season was about his personal growth and this season, he's pretty much just an above it all a-hole most of the time.

Even the first Paintball episode was pretty good, they played the western theme very, very well, but once more decided to take a hard left turn and turned the second half of the episode into a half ***** star wars theme, but still with the western movie title.

Community needs to figure itself out, get back into 1 or 2 good stories at a time and finish them, rather than bouncing off every half baked idea they have.
  4. So it's been bothering me all season and I figured I'd bring it here. What is going on with TV this season?

So first off, it seems like a lot of shows have been really hit and miss this season, more so than in the past. I was really getting into Modern family, especially the last half of last season and the first half of this season, but then the second half of this season, I felt like a lot of the writing was sub par.

I also felt the Office though ending it's season on a funny note with Michael Scott leaving and the search to replace him (mirroring to a degree, I'm sure, the search to replace Carrel as the actor) has been really unfunny some episodes, and this is a show I watch reruns for all the time since they still crack me up.

Chuck, Community, Family guy, 30 Rock, have all been the same. I'm sure some of this is opinion but some of these episodes seem to really be lacking in the quality of writing, jokes, etc that I've come to expect from them.

Additionally there has been a ton of weird scheduling. It seems like since the shows came back from winter break all of the shows I've mentioned have had a number of weeks off, and some like chuck and modern family seem to be airing only every other week, or ever 3 weeks at times. A few of these shows, The Office and Chuck had slightly longer seasons, but it hardly makes up for each week finding out that half the shows I like didn't have a new episode.

Add to that the number of failed new shows. The Cape, The Good Guys, Breaking In, Mr. Sunshine, and a host of others. Some of these shows seemed to not be very good, others, like Breaking In, the show seemed to have little to do with it's premise. (A securities group that breaks into places to test the security but every episode is about a bunch of nerds pulling pranks on each other and being love sick puppies.)

Schedule shifts and night changes and is it any wonder 31 shows got the ax this season?

    http://xx4x2x0xx.blogspot.com/2011/0...-from-air.html

Then there is "The Event". I'm not going to say it was the best show ever, and it was having some issues with ratings before winter break, but the show went on 3 month hiatus for winter then to make room for the cape, then when it came back it's ratings plummeted from what they were. Is anyone surprised? If you take any show off the air for 3 months mid season, do you really expect it to come back with full ratings? I feel like NBC really just ruined any chance of something I think many considered a decent show, taking off.

All in all this season from the quality of writing to the weird scheduling, it just feels like something was way off...

    Am I the only one?

Abomination got created from combining Hulk's DNA with the Super Soldier serum the general had on hand, but I am certain that they never said Banner was working on Super Soldier Serum in the movie.

But admittedly I was more a DC kid than a Marvel kid so some of this stuff I don't know, like his real name being Barton. I also didn't hear it when he said Barton, some one was coughing or something, cuz I specifically got annoyed when I missed the name, but had I heard it I wouldn't have known.

Was Hawkeye always a SHIELD agent? I thought he was sort of his own guy...

Overall, the movie is extremely faithful to the comics. Like Iron Man, they changed some minor things and used the best bits from various sources. At the time IM came out, Adi Granov's design of the armor was the coolest out there, so they adapted that version for film, and it works beautifully. However, they managed to have their cake and eat it, too, by having Stark's first cave-made armor resemble the original Iron Man suit. Jarvis became an AI rather than a person, but that makes more sense in the 20th century for a tech wizard like Tony Stark.

Similarly, Straczynski's reboot of Thor has beats that they used for the film (hammer falling in the American Southwest, Thor ending up in a small town -- although in Oklahoma rather New Mexico), but like IM, they used Olivier Copiel's redesign of Thor's outfit and extrapolated everyone else's from it. A very good idea, in my opinion, because Thor has never looked cooler. Asgard and all the characters there were true to the comic book versions, although obviously less time could be spent on some than others. The reason Thor was exiled is the same as in the comic. The only major change was that "Donald Blake" was just a temporary alias of Thor's rather than Thor's actual secret identity. Like Jarvis, though, I think that was a better choice.
Good to know! Were Darcy and that other girl (portman's character) in the comic as well?

Honestly, they have sunk a ton of money into CoH recently. GR, all the hiring they've done and staffing up they've done. We continue to see new red names here on the forum, they've introduced several in the last couple months. If they did all that, only to release CoH 2, they'd be competing with themselves. Best case scenario is that CoH 2 is awesome and CoH 1 loses all of its players to it's sequel and they just wasted all that money staffing up and producing more CoH1 content for nothing instead of pumping out 2 that much faster.

Worst case scenario is, either CoH2 is underwhelming and no one leaves CoH1 to play it and they just wasted a ton of money, or they split the population over both games and neither has enough numbers to support either....

It's not a CoH2. It would just be silly to double down on CoH1 development while producing a product that would be designed to supplant it.

My guess though is it is CoH related... Maybe a CoH spin off into another genre. Action Adventure, or Open World game maybe? Single player experience with a nice, tightly woven narrative that involves parts of Paragon city and some select villain groups? Updated graphics and a few different powersets so players would still have a degree of customization when tackling the story.

It'd be something to drive the CoH brand forward, get new gamers exposure to CoH universe, which might draw them to the MMO. In addition they'd not be competing with their own product, people wouldn't have to pay 2 subscriptions or start over on CoH2, they'd have a nice side adventure to play with, and still enjoy their MMO.

I think it's much more likely than a direct sequel at this point.

I liked this movie. I have no knowledge of the Thor comics, other than knowing that there are Thor comics. I do have a passing understanding of Norse mythology from a couple classes I took years ago, but I suspect Marvel was pretty liberal with their take on things from the get go, so I didn't expect this movie to be super accurate.

That said I really enjoyed it. I felt some of the character stuff, Loki's motivations, Thor's transformation, were a little too subtle, and some of that could have been made a little more convincing... That said, none of it was so out of the blue or un-explainable as to jar me or make me roll my eyes.

Special effects were good, I loved seeing Thor in action, seemed very powerful. Even some good eye candy with Kat Denning and Portman around, the girl who played sif was pretty cute too.

All in all, fun movie. Though I was wondering, did they actually reference the guy with the Bow as Hawkeye? There was some noise near me during that part, I didn't hear if they actually mentioned his name.

Loving the increased involvement from SHIELD in these movies, loved the teaser at the end. I was surprised that in the showing I went to, at least 80% of the audience left the moment the credits started, even my GF was like "What, have these people never seen a Marvel Movie?"

I'm curious though, I could kind of gauge from the other Super Hero movies, how accurate or not they are to the comic since I've read the comics, but I've never picked up an Issue of thor. Was this one at all accurate to the books?

(I haven't read this whole thread so sorry if that question has been answered.)

Besides, attractive woman in a leotard? Head and shoulders above a sweaty-looking, orange-colored, original creation that was saddled with a seemingly cursed Firefly alum.
Granted "The Cape" was no where in the same League as Wonder Woman is. But what I'm saying is, given NBC seems to be struggling in ratings and such over the last few years, they have had 2 super hero shows, Heroes, which faltered after it's first season and steadily went into decline, and The Cape which just never did very well.

That being said, I think NBC might be hesitant to try another Super Hero based show, given their questionable luck with it in the past.

Is Wonder Woman a better property than the Cape? Absolutely, and I'd watch a Wonder Woman show for a couple episodes just because, which is more than I gave the Cape.

But do I trust NBC execs to realize the distinction between a catastrophe like The Cape, and Wonder Woman, and then make Wonder Woman a good show? No I do not.

It's not like we have to worry that a bad Wonder Woman show in 2011 is going to make the chances of ever getting other live-action versions any worse at this point. We're already at the bottom of the alternative barrel. We've had 30+ years of no Wonder Woman at all so even a short-lived "recent failure" would be better for us comic book geeks than nothing because at least it'd put the character back into the minds of the current generation of TV producers and give it a chance to picked up again by someone else who'd treat the property better before yet another 30 years goes by.

Look at it this way: The super cheesy Cathy Lee Crosby Wonder Woman back in 1974 lead very quickly to the Lynda Carter series that started in 1975. Maybe the mere existence of this questionable Adrianne Palicki pilot will be enough to lead to a better series in the near future.

Yeah, some WW is better than no WW. But given that the Cape seems to have failed for NBC, I wonder if they will go out on a limb on another Super Hero show, particularly after Heroes flamed out...

I'd still watch at least an episode or two, more if it's good.

Yay Chuck! More people need to watch that show, even as hit and miss as parts of Season 4 were, it's better than most of the stuff on TV if you ask me.
  16. Not sure if this is FX or not, but I'd love to see more glowing weapons, like Tech Sword or Vanguard weapons.

Also would love to see customizable arrows for archery, so black rularuu arrows, or glowing vanguard arrows, as an option to go with power custimization.

PPD with control from energy gloves, or blasting from energy gloves. Maybe some Energy Melee mixed in.

But once you reach level 25 everything seems as before. TFs, trials and radio teams are as common as always.
Some of that is probably because people are doing 1-20 in praetoria now, with no access for sewer teams or synapse and such.

Prior to the Defiance 2.0 changes Castle stated in no uncertain terms that datamining showed that *all* blaster powerset combinations soloed slower than the overall average by a significant margin, and this was true at all level ranges and whether solo, small teamed, or large teamed. It was also the only archetype that could make that assertion.

What you and probably most people are overlooking is that the average City of Heroes player is self-selected to be a person that finds the game somewhat challenging, but not extremely so. Most people who think the game is too trivially easy have likely moved on, as well as the people who think the game is too difficult. The average player probably finds the game to have moderate difficulty.

For players who find the game very easy, blasters are not hard to play. If they are not hard to play, their good damage output makes them good soloers, to a point. However, for a player that finds the game somewhat challenging, blasters are not necessarily easy to play. They do not have very good passive damage mitigation and their offensive mitigation largely vanishes if they are mezzed. Essentially, and the devs datamined this as well, blasters die often: more often than other archetypes. Forumites tend to be better than average players, and don't often see this layer of difficulty. But the average player does, and it acts as a constant penalty on their performance. That's how blasters can level slower than everyone else even when teamed: that shouldn't be possible since all players (of equal level) on the same team earn XP at the same rate. It would be possible, however, if the blasters tended to carry more debt.

For many of us, the difference between soloing a blaster and soloing a scrapper is that the blaster has range. But for most of this game's playerbase, the difference is that blasters die and scrappers are immortal at standard difficulty. Ditto controllers: there isn't a controller build seriously threatened by anything in standard difficulty content besides certain tough bosses: the amount of mez a controller can bring to bear on standard difficulty spawns is overwhelming, and a sizeable fraction of them have self mitigation buffs or self heals or both.
I want to see where he said that please. I do believe he said that Blasters died more often and part of that was due to the way that origina Defiance encouraged Blasters to take damage to get a damage buff, IE promoting a reckless and dangerous play style.

Defenders do have more mitigation, but they damage so much slower than blasters, and a good blaster can pace it so they can blow through mobs quickly without constantly getting in over their head, where as defenders just don't blow through things nearly as fast.

Also Blasters aren't the only damage AT and I really have a hard time believing support ATs ,designed to function best in team environments by helping their teams, out level Brutes or scrappers solo. I've played all the ATs thoroughly and the support classes have taken me the longest in solo situations. And yes, I do know how to play them.
  20. Well I'd say Syndicate have magic users, if only because they are made up of elements of the Tsoo from Praetorian earth. The syndicate, some of them, ahve some pretty nifty little powers so if anyone has magic, it's them.

Also the Carnival of Light, though they really don't show up so far outside of De'Vore in the resistance base, I really hope they do though, I want to see light carnies running around helping the resistance!

I think those zones - especially the RWZ - highlight the problems this team has with coop zones, as well. The only actual "co op" missions I can think of are the V-day missions, where heroes and villains *must* work together to finish an objective (as opposed to just being "team with anyone.)

When the devs try to write co-op, they inevitably make some (really bad) assumptions or really "write down to" one side or the other. The most infamous (to me) line is the "I know the Rogue Isles don't seem like a place worth saving" in the RWZ - says who? My heroes would generally help anyone, and my villains... you've just told them they're basically trash that came from a trash country.

Now, if we just call them "shared" zones (which is looser than co-op - and more like Cim, with a hero specific and villain specific contact,) it gives a little more leeway - but it also runs into the problem (to me) of having to have a good reason why my hero/villain isn't trying to stop that villain/hero they see running around. But that's a whole other can of worms.

Co-op has the possibility of being more like "real" co-op with the "morality" tech we got in GR, so we'll have to see what happens there. Perhaps R/Vs can even get some specific contacts and missions so they're not just tagging along. But I'm not holding my breath.
Story or thematically, you might be correct. But co-op just means cooperative, and in any zone in this game you can have Villain ATs and Heroic ATs working together with side switching, and so every zone IS a co-op zone. It doesn't matter that a Rogue Stalker can't start missions in Founders, he can still team with a blaster and the content can still be run with ALL ATs now. So yeah, it's all co-op. Maybe certain people can't initiate some missions, maybe the missions aren't written with a great co-op story, but when you can run a team of Mixed Villain and Hero ATs in any zone, it's for all game play purposes, co-op.

Are you intentionally discounting all the Praetorian zones, or just forget about them?

Also, isn't the entire game a co-op zone now with side switching?

There is no reason that a new zone would have to be 35+ if it were co-op. Those zones were designed as high end content and RWZ was the Crash site before and was already a high level hazard zone.

Anywho, new zone would be neat, doesn't sound like Paragon city as usual. I do think it'll be on primal earth, or the primal earth dimension with the way they talked about it having importance on a world wide level. But time will tell I suppose.

I'd honestly love to see the moon zone or Atlantis, but I won't hold my breath for those.
