  2. Since we are on the subject of rudeness and SG recruiting. I had this sort of situation happen to me a month or so back.

I'd just joined a pick up group in Peregrine Island and we blazed through the first mission. We went into the second mission and about two MoBs in I commented.

Me: This is fantastic XP. And this team is a lot of fun.

Leader: Great, glad you're having a good time, would you like to join my SG?

Me: No thank you. I run my own SG, I don't really need another.

Leader: You sure you don't want to join my SG?

Me: No, like I said , I run my own. I like having my own base, plus I sometimes disappear for weeks at a time due to school and real life, most SGs don't like that sort of schedule.

    Leader: That's too bad.

Then I was promptly booted from the team, Mid mission, so I was kicked out of the instance. So I was curious and I sent a tell to the Leader.

Me: Hey man, what's up? Why was a I booted from the team?

    A couple minutes past.

Me: Umm hello? I'd really like to know why I got kicked off the team.

Leader: Why, are you not happy with your decision?

Me: Huh? What decision? you mean not joining your SG?

Leader: Are you happy with your decision?

Me: Did you really just kick me from the team for not joining your SG?

He never responded after that. It was honestly, the weirdest damned thing ever.

Yeah, behind the guns and so forth are people who chose to pick up guns, fire them at heroes and do villainous deeds.

And yeah, it sucks that Blackhawk 747's daughter may wonder why daddy won't be around anymore, but maybe Blackhawk 747 should have thought of that before he joined Malta and started working as an international terrorist.

Also, what about the Daughter's of innocents, scientists, or other civilians, who don't get to see their daddy's anymore because Blackhawk 747 came into a lab, killed the filing clerks and accountants to steal some piece of tech?

Sorry, but if bad guys don't want to be shot at and potentially killed by heroes, they shouldn't be badguys.

Now some heroes might still feel bad about it, but honestly Heroes are reacting to the choices that Villains made, they aren't responsible for the fact that bad guys do bad things and need to be stopped. . If Blackhawk 747 wanted to be a good daddy he'd get a job at an office Far away from Paragon city.
  5. So I just tried this and jeez....

Okay so we blew it pretty early on, some one on the team died fighting Numina but I wasn't in the mood to start over so we pressed on. Most of it wasn't bad actually, we had a couple careless deaths but part of that was the fact that as the leader, I have little experience with this SF and didn't entirely know what to expect.

However the final room, Sheesh.. Can anyone tell me how many ambushes there are or how to tell when they are done? We tried staying in the T area, Big-R stayed back. Ambushes came and came from the right side of the room. Then from behind us for a while. After a LOT of ambushes it stopped. I figured it was done. We attacked him then we had a ton of ambushes from the left side of the room, then more from the back.

Then I thought it was done and then they started coming from the Back again.

When does it end? We finally gave up on clearing the ambushes and just pounced him, with several deaths in the process...

So can anyone tell me how long it takes for the ambushes to stop?
  6. honestly, I was sort of wondering why Pool and Epic Pool power customization didn't happen with the rest of it.

When it comes right down to it, very few of those powers use different animations or FX than others. I mean it's all pretty recycled, and the fireball from my controllers Epic Pool isn't all that different than fireball from a blasters fire blast set.

It seems like they should have been able to do a sort of "copy and paste" for the custom stuff to the epic sets for the most part.

Patron pools I suppose is a little different, but even something like Soul mastery is just the same effects as dark blast, mu mastery is just more electric effects which they did plenty of, again, copy and paste those effects and Voila, PPP and APP Customization.

Khelds and WSs may be a little different since they have extra effects in theirs I think, but even then a lot of the blasts look pretty damn similar, I don't understand how they couldn't just port the new customizable stuff to the khelds.

And VEATs, well fortunata's would have been easy and I'm pretty sure Crabs, and Banes are using the same beams from their weapons, and for that matter the PPP Mace, so all that could have been done.
  7. Honestly, the real question for me here is: Does Manticore Tolerate Sister Psyche rooting around in his thoughts? How much mind reading does Psyche do without people's permission, and if she does it often, does that make her any better than Mother Mayhem? I mean if she's reading minds of people without their permission all the time, especially her husband, doesn't that make her the thought police essentially?

Not quite. The Tip missions indicate that when given the choice, Vigilantes will choose to kill, and heroes will choose to try and avoid killing.

There is a big difference there.

I know this is off Topic, but the blood of those people is not on Batman's hands. Batman didn't kill those people, the Joker did. Batman can't be held responsible for some one else's actions, just because he could have committed murder but didn't.

If that were the case, any criminal, cop, Arkham Guard, Comissioner Gordon, Batgirl, Robin, Catwoman, all have the bloode of all of Joker's victims on their hands...

And that's just not the case. Joker committed the murders, no one else. Just because Batman chose not to murder him back, doesn't mean he's responsible for the Joker's continued actions.
  10. Alright, so when the "Masters of" Badges originally came out, I figured I'd never go for them, sounds like a pain, I'm way too casual for that. Now I've got 5 out of the 6 of them and I'm addicted to them.

Since i19 has been delayed I want to get the last one, the Mo Barracuda version of the Mo 5th column TF, so I can say if only for a short while, that I got them all.

The Barracuda Strike Force is the one I've had the least experience with and the least success with. It seems like I've run a few of them, only 2 have succeeded and the others fail miserably in the last battle with Reichsman.

So my question is, what are the important things I should know for running this TF and doing it flawlessly? Any important tips or strategies that would maximize our potential for succeeding?

Whats the best way to handle Reichsman in that last room and are the ambushes there infinite?
  11. Most of My existing 50s, (IE 10 out of the 12 of them) Will not be respeccing for this.

Honestly I got their builds and slots and all that where I like them, I'm not bothering to go through the hassle of respeccing them just to put the powers they already have as an inherent. Especially since I'll just get 3 more powers I won't have any slots for and probably don't want that bad.
  12. I, for one, am outraged

You guys only get the 25th through the 28th off? I would really think you guys would get the whole week off given how hard you work.

I may need to write NCSoft Corporate an angry letter about their business practices...

On the other hand, since it seems you all may be in the office from the 22nd-24th, Any chance we can see i19 on the 23rd, since it's on your way to work and all? Pretty please...?

(Just so everyone knows, I am kidding here, they won't release the week of Thanksgiving and I know why, it's a joke. )

Everytime NCSoft does something like this, or has one of these cool products that doesn't get made and we learn about through the forums and such, I have to think that it's a missed opportunity.

I would totally buy Utopios and a host of other CoH products. In fact if I were the CoH marketing team, I'd try to get those Pepsi products that were made up in that other thread, made for real, I'd buy those.

There is so much money to be made off those of us who would buy that stuff, plus it'd make the brand name more well known. People seeing City Of Heroes cereal might ask around and be like, whoa that's from a game? Where do I sign up?

NDA could have been signed for any number of reasons, not the least of which was that they were testing I20 before I19 was even released.

Plus they mentioned new systems in I20, new incarnate powers, (Judgement is listed on the Incarnate Overview page in the GR site, I'm sure that's going to be in I20.)

And that's only what we know of so far...

If rare can be gained within a couple of months of casual gameplay (doing whatever you'd be doing without the new system, not grinding TFs) is that too slow/too fast or about right?
Yeah, you're missing the point. I don't care that it takes a couple months, I care that it's going to take a couple months playing the same old content. It's a grind, and not even a new one. If we're running old arcs for shard drops or running old TFs for component drops, that's not new content, just new drops, thus the complaint about it being grindy.

Though honestly, if it takes a couple months to get reward boosts, that seems excessive to me, especially since they'd already told us the new TFs in I19 are going to be intended for people that have their incarnate gear already, it would be silly to make something that takes months of rehashing old content to get, before you could properly join in the new stuff.

I'm sure that going forward, the Devs will have new material with the incarnate system, just what they've shown of I20 and the Mother Hayhem hospital Trial, makes it clear that it's not all going to be a rehash of old stuff. But for now, the alpha slot appears to be exactly that, new loot, same old content for the most part, so people saying it's a bit "grindy" is justified.

I don't think I'd doubt our devs that much.

It says right on the preview sight that the basic Incarnate Shards can be crafted into "any". And the Gr'ai Matter listed as unknown has been mentioned many times as being craftable out of Vanguard merits.

Still plenty of room for further definition, but hardly "only come from task forces".
Yeah, if it's anything like the GR Beta, you can get shards to craft things. The problem is, If I remember correctly, you need something like 16 shards to get one of the common boosts and 32 shards to get enough for one of the uncommon boosts, and they don't drop very often. So building your way up to one of the rare ones without running TFs, is going to take a LONG Time.

Running it while doing TFs won't take as long, but it's going to be a grind.

But who knows, maybe they will change the drop rates or something. Personally I'm less than excited about the Alpha slot, since it seems like it'll be mostly just doing old content for new drops, but I'm more excited because it looks like going forward there will be more new content associated with the system, judging from the Mother of Mercy Hospital Trial etc.
  17. What is this ? Is this a power you found or what? Where might one see this?

Well, Assault rifle will always be lethal damage, not energy damage even if they changed the affects.

But I wasn't looking for something cosmetically new, I am looking for a new power set that toys with energy weapons, that would be thematically different and different in game play mechanics.

Also I am looking for an energy control set, not just the cool gauntlets, I just think it'd be nifty if it was also tied to the gauntlets some how.

I hate to burst your bubble, but at the most recent meet and greet, Matt "Positron" Miller, made a very unofficial but highly telling hint that Paragon Studios policy had changed, and that they now hate Heroes and Praetorians, not Villains.
  20. Not sure how hard this would be, and I know it only really effects 2 powersets and 3 ATs, but it would be great if we could have several Arrow types to choose from, they way we have several bows to choose from.

IE: Vanguard glowy arrows to go with the vanguard bow. Rularuu Arrows to go with the Rularuu bow, and medieval looking arrows to go with the older looking bows etc. for both Archery and Trick Arrow.

Edit: To clarify, I'd like the option to customize the arrow model the same way we can customize the Bow itself. IE the choice of which model to use and the option to colorize it. Black normal arrows, blue arcane arrows, red vanguard arrows etc.
  21. So this idea isn't mine, I saw some one else suggest it (I forget who) and I though it deserved it's own thread.

Super Strength and Martial Arts already have alternating animations for some of its powers. And soon the blasting sets will have the same options. It would be great if in choosing the options for animations, you could choose a Random Bright or Random Dark option, so that when you activate the power, the power plays one of the 2 animations already available.

    For Example:

In the super strength the tier 2 power "Punch" has the following options.
    Original
    Bright
    Dark
    Bright Cross
    Dark Cross

The suggestion is they add 2 more options
    Bright Random
    Dark Random.

So when you select bright Random, you get the color effects you choose, but the power either does the original, or the Cross, each time you press it, it would do either of them so it adds more variety to your move set.

This would be especially nice since all sorts of blasters, defenders and corruptors are going to get some alternate animations soon.

And the tech is already in the game for this. We see it with the Tier 1 Dual Pistols power that has 4 animations it fires off at random. Or with Shield Defense since half the time it does a kick, and the other half of the time it does a hit with the shield. It should take minimal effort to just take the rig that lets alternate animations fire off from the same power, and apply it to the powers that already have, more than one animation for us to choose from.
  22. I stay for a few reasons.

First off, I love this game, it's a lot of fun, it's colorful it's modern and I get to be a super hero and fly around down town.

Second: It's always new. Several times a year they release new updates and I get to do new missions, or find new stuff or make new powers and something like GR there is a lot to look over and do.

Third: There's almost always something new to do. I 've done a ton of content in my 60 months of being here, but there's still stuff I haven't seen or done or explored before. And I still have characters I'm building up because I want to see what their powers are like when they hit their peak.

Last: The community. I know it's been said to death but this community rocks, most of the people are friendly, most of the time, there's usually something fun to do with people and I've made a few friends and acquaintances in the game that it's a blast to play with them, even if we're just running our 4,678th ITF.

I want to add that the Devs are a big part of that community. I have to say it's really cool that I know at least once a year the Devs are going to be partying in my area of Nor Cal and invite us to go along. I think it's wonderful that the devs will take time to talk with us on the forums, answer our questions and work on stuff we ask for. It keeps me coming back because there is something about being a part of a game where the game makers are saying "ohh you want that? Well that's going to be a ton of work, if it's even possible.. But hey, it's a popular request, we'll try..."

So yeah, that's why I keep playing. I have my breaks here and there, a few weeks or a couple months off but I keep the account active because I never know when the itch is going to hit me and I'm going to want to Unload a holy mother ton of FREEM on some baddies.

Then I'd know to keep it at least long enough to make what it was I was making, and when I get enough salvage, THEN I'd go grab the recipe.
This is a fantastic idea. I love it, and it would make it really easy to start tracking what you want or need.

However I also like the OPs idea. I'm not sure what the ramifications would be to the market and supply and demand and such, but it might be interesting.

They could do it like they do Inspirations now. 3 of a given type, can be turned into one of a given type. But they could keep it on an even tier. so 3 common salvage can be turned into 1 of another common salvage. Or 3 purple recipes (of the same kind) turned into 1 purple recipe.

I think the idea has merit. For all those times I open my salvage inventory and see 15 hydraulic pistons and I really just want a spiritual essence. It might even help even the gap between the really expensive, less common, common pieces like "luck charm" or the other "common salvage" that sells for a ton because it doesn't seem to drop as much or what ever, and the pieces that sell for 1 inf because there are so many of them.
  24. From discussions at the Meet and Greet I got a couple ideas, I suggested them to a couple Devs, they told me to suggest it on the forums, here goes:

So here are ideas on a couple of Praetorian Themed\Inspired Powersets that I think could be a lot of fun and add something to the game

Energy Rifle: This would be a blaster\ corrupter set, like the rifles the Resistance use.

Damage Type: Energy (Possibly Dark Energy with some sort of ammo change.)

This could be a lot of fun for a new weapon set without being just another lethal set. It could get all new animations, with more military style animations for shooting the rifle. Also it might be a more single target sort of focus than AR currently is since AR is all sorts of AoE.

Also it could be interesting if the Assualt rifle used a few powers like Piercing Rounds, where there is a narrow cone so it seems like the Rifle could be firing through some people, into the target behind them.

Additionally, it could have some cool glowy assault rifle type gun models, and who doesn't want more glowy stuff?

Energy Gauntlets\ Energy Control: This would be a Control set similar to the Gauntlets the PPD uses.

    Damage Type: Energy

This could be a pretty basic control set for energy control. It doesn't have to be tied to the gauntlets, but it might be cool if it was too. Either way could have some new energy or dark energy based particle effects and it could again, work off the idea of "piercing" type of powers that seem to pass through targets.

If it's tied to gauntlets, could be fun to put some new gloves in the game, magic, tech, steam punk, with glowy bits for this to work with.

This idea is a little less fleshed out than the energy Rifle one, but I don't know control sets nearly as well. Ideas here are especially appreciated.
  25. So this is a few days late, but it's taken my a couple days to recover. (Turns out Indian food at 1 AM after a bunch of different kinds of booze, then going to bed, doesn't do so well for my tummy.)

Still I had a blast. I say this every year and I'll continue to say it: Once more I was so impressed with just how awesome the developers and staff of Paragon studios are. They give up their time, come to this event, answer tons of questions in the pannels or just mingling but they are all so nice and friendly, I'm jealous I don't work with a group of people this cool. Seriously, the devs are fantastic, so thank you guys for your time!

Also, who ever decided to make this the night we do daylight savings time so I got an extra hour of sleep before work in the morning, PURE GENIUS!

Seriously, I had a great time, if you get a chance to go to one of the meet and greets with Paragon studios, go, they don't dissappoint.
