  1. Alright So Incarnate stuff is out and it turns out my main has a ton of cash so I'm looking to go back and visit a few of my older 50s.

I have an Ice tank, (my name sake actually.) Who I want to slot with sets. Now from what I'm seeing,(it's been a hwile since I played him.) Ice doesn't have much resistance and a little deffense but seems a bit squishy as tanks go.

So what IO sets can I slot into him to make him a bit tougher?

Edit: I'm not looking to go crazy and purple this guy just yet, so lets keep it to orange sets please.

In there defense, the recent games are so bad they really can't give the subscriptions away, they pretty much have to go f2p.

And the others who bought life time subscriptions before it came out... Well Apple has been making this case over and over recently, be careful about being the "early adopter". If you wait a week or a month the price will plummet once the shiny wears off.
  3. See I'm sort of split.

No doubt fighting the honoree is hard. However it can't be that hard to get a full team since the last several times I've been in ouroborus people are crowding around the new contacts.

Even if you have to solo it, use inspirations, or patience or new tactics, get a temp power or something. There is always a way to beat it.

I soloed it on my blaster on test, it took a while but I did it. And I skipped it on live.

Honestly, the mission isn't awful, the honoree is just tough, that doesn't make it awful, just challenging.

Or all of them in the Storm Palace are location specific, lock of hate etc.

It's not like everywhere you go in the shadow shard will drive you nuts, just some places, and maybe not everyone.

Also it's badge text, it's for flavor, I have a hard time seeing it as "god modding".

Is this in the lore some where? I mean I know it's been said for a while now, but is this in the game, or just a well known thing?
  6. I had mine after about 3 hours.

Join a PuG LGTF. It was bad, the leader didn't get any holds, hadn't lead the thing in a while, and though they kept saying let's do this "fast" they basically wanted to clear everything.

Still during that LGTF in the first 3 missions I got 7 shards. Crafted one of the components I needed.

We failed at hami, people quit, had no holds etc, it took about 2 hours to get to that point and have it fail.

Started my own LGTF got like 6 more shards, and the Component for beating the TF, took around an hour. Crafted the third component I needed and it was done.

Then I crafted another component that I would need for my uncommong component, bought a grai matter with vanguard merits and ran Apex looking to get enough shards to craft the next component I needed.

Got the other component, then went to bed. Ran Tin Mage last night, got the last 6 shards I needed to craft the uncommon component, got my uncommon boost.

Total play time, maybe 6 - 7 hours. Though a good chunk of that time was stuck fighting tough AVs or Hami where I wasn't getting any shard drops.

Honestly, the whole thing is a little under whelming and I'm still hoping that future incarnate stuff is more closely linked to the content and story and challenges, rather than this New Arc, Old Content+ crafting, then new TFs.

It's like bad drivers. You think there everywhere because they stick out and you notice them. But if you stop and think about it, you realize the two guys who cut you off are the only ones out of the 50 other cars within sight of you.

Same applies to all that other stuff. They seem like there everywhere because no on notices the humans.

I loved the Shadow Shard stuff. It's not the "lore " of the SS in a historical sense, but it gives more depth and feeling to the type of place it is, makes me think of it as more alive and malicious than just floating rocks.

As for the other ones, all of them are great, loved the ones in DA, though I was reading them at night watching a show about ghosts and it was getting creeped out, not gonna lie.

However the Shadow Shard ones, well they just struck me as mean, like the whole damned place was hating me, that was a cool fealing the Shadow Shard itself, all 4 zones HATE you and they are MEAN, yes, the whole place has emotions, they aren't nice.

    QFT! Very well put.

Honestly, the Shadow Shard is a mystery to me in a way. It's maybe one of the most original, ingenious ideas in the game, the lore and backstory to it is deep enough to almost make a small video game just for that. Yet despite the seemingly limitless potential and coolness for the zones, and the fact that the Devs clearly have an idea or concept of what the Shadow shard is all about, (as proven by those incredibly well written badges.) It's so completely under-utilized.

However I have a hope. That as the Incarnate stuff goes along, which is all about heroes ascending into godhood, that they will give the Shadow Shard a bit of a revamp, put in the other areas mentioned in the lore and give some incarnates some really tough Rularuu to fight, perhaps even Rularuu himself.

(A guy can dream can't he?)

Honestly Incarnates VS Revamped (Updated )Shadow Shard + Rularuu would be pure win.

The missions are the content. Capes, auras, Alpha slot, are rewards. I think you're saying you hate having to play the game to get the rewards. In which case your out of luck, you don't get rewards for free.

Plus, The Alpha Slot arc takes all of 20 minutes if you hurry and it can be quite a bit of fun.
  10. So I've been running around collecting all the cool new exploration badges from i19 in the hazard zones and I have been reading most of them.

Reading the Exploration badges from the Storm Palace and the Chantry (Working my way backwards.) And these things are mean, they are hateful and insulting. Seriously making me feel bad for my hero and the choices he's made and its just brutally harsh.

Good work devs. Gives the Shadow Shard some more character, now more Shadow Shard Lore and Arcs, TFs etc please

Well Maybe you're paying attention during big fights, and I usually am too... Usually.

Honestly I'm usually running around trying to find the best spot to stand\hover so I can see the most doors to be the first alert system for the team. Which doesn't work all the time since I'm often looking at the other monitor....

That's a really cynical\mean way to look at it.

AE isn't just about making it so we make content and they don't have to. Since I14 when AE was launched they've released 4 more free issue updates with plenty of Content, and each one has given us new types of content, new types of missions and new tech in the missions. It's not like they released AE and said, okay now we just pop out a couple more Defeat alls in each Issue and the rest of the content is done for us.

AE is a really cool little tool. It allows us, the player base, to make new challenges for ourselves and our friends and write our own stories. CoH is the first MMO to not only encourage you to make your fan fiction, but to put in their game. That's pretty freaking sweet and I think it's remarkably cynical to say it's just lazyness on their part that made them want to do it.

As for the exploits. Everyone complains about the AE exploits, but no one bothers to mention that before AE there were plenty of other exploits people complaining about. Honestly if AE was pulled from the game now, in a week people would be farming something else and other people would be whining about it. Exploits are not the fault of the Devs, Exploits are the fault of greedy\lazy\whatever players that will always look for a way to cheat\game the system and get the most rewards per hour even if it's an abuse to the game system. The Devs are human beings, these exploits don't exist on account of them being Lazy or dumb or not caring, they exist because as human beings they have only so many hours in the day that they can devote to fixing the exploits that crop up, and they are outnumbered. They have tens of people in an office who are trying to fix exploits that are being hunted by hundreds or thousands of players.

AE is a great tool, it wasn't designed so the Devs could stop making content and the Devs aren't responsible for people abusing it. People should stop being pissed at the Devs for the fact that other people abuse the system, start getting pissed at the people who exploit the system, they are the problem.
  14. The problem with War Witch's statement is that it seems to fly in the face of one of the core things this game was built on.

"No weather for the sake of weather" (I'm paraphrasing) basically saying she wouldn't do it without a good game play reason.

Well what about simple looks\ambiance\realism\feel? CoH has always been a game that was a lot about feel, and looks. One of the KEY components of CoH is the costume creator. You can create your own look with no consequences or bonuses to game play.

I want my squishy ol blaster to wear big thick armor, does it make my Blaster tough? No but it looks good. I want my big tough brute to wear shorts, no shoes, no shirt. He can still take a hit with the best of them and best of all still gets service in the stores.

So why is it something like weather, which could give the game a great sort of ambience, which is important to the game, especially since it's in a modern environment and is supposed to feel like the real world, off limits unless it has a game play component?

Weather could be done easily, hell with the powers they have they already have animations for rain and snow. They could just be tweaked to work for zone rain or snow. In addition we already have gray skys, (See: rogue isles) We already have skies that can go from blue and sunny to gray, (See: Imperial City.) We already have fog (See: Dark Astoria) We already have lighting, sky and color changes across zones (See: Zone Events, Rikti Raids, Holloween Events)

Seriously most of the work for this sort of thing is already in the game, it's just a matter of bringing the existing special effects or sky or atmosphere effects together with the existing change in environment systems.

    Just do it already.

It's not Weather for the sake of weather, it's weather for the sake of a prettier game and happier fans.

To clarify, that is NOT a super power.

That is the result of being hit with a really high mag confuse or stun power.

I think some things in the game, especially the more common things, should be sold in other places than just the market.

IE Common and Uncommon Salvage for example. There should be places where you can buy these items with straight INF. (Not Reward rolls, not ticket rolls, not merit rolls, just INF.)

Don't set the prices super low, but some what high, not uber high but enough that people might look on the market for better prices , like people currently do with Common IOs, already crafted etc, but this way there would be a sort of cieling on some of the more common things in the game, AND another INF sink.

Well I could go to the market and pay 60k a piece for Luck Charm, or I could go to the store and pay 10 K a piece and I know I'll get it. People will stop asking so much on the market, and it will sort of keep things even, not to mention now people are unloading some of there cash etc.

I don't think this should be applied to Rare or Ultra Rare items, but for some of the very common ones, I think it could help.

Drop rate increase would be good to an extent, but after a while things just become too common, which in the case of things that are supposed to be Rare or Ultra Rare, just would defeat the point.

I never considered the technical side of it, that makes a hole ton more sense now.

Sure there is, Open Market Economy, that's all the logic that's needed to justify it.

    It's very logical.
  19. So I hit the influence cap for the first time ever on my main the other day. I suppose I could have easily hit it before but I always got impatient and spent my cash before I got there. This time I more or less saved up for it, especially since I've been doing a LOT of TFs since GR came out and I've been making money even easier than usual.

So I got to thinking, why is the Influence cap set at 2 Billion? Couldn't it be raised given the economics of this game, and why is there an influence cap at all?

Raising the Inf. Cap- So at the very least I think the INF cap should be raised. 2 Billion in this game isn't all that much. The Games economy is constantly undergoing inflation, every time some one defeats something they get more money that for all intents and purposes comes out of no where. Same thing for any time some one gets enhancements or salvage that they sell, that money comes from no where, gets put in the economy and there aren't that many money sinks to take it out again.

So people can literally store mass amounts of cash, and prices for things being what they are, some items selling for over a billion and others selling for hundreds of millions and quite a few being sold for tens of millions, it seems like having only a 2 billion cap is rather small.

Eliminating The Cap- So when I start thinking about raising the cap I have to wonder, why have a cap at all? I mean it's sort of pointless to cap inf at all. What happens when I reach the cap? I start putting more money on an alt . Even if I never bought additional slots, with 12 slots on a server, I could have 24 billion per server or 264 billion across all the servers. In theory one could purchase enough slots to access all 36 slots on each server and net up to 792 billion.

Even further, one could place bids for items in the market, up to what 20 per character, of 2 billion each for some item that may not ever show up, IE some level 53 recipe that no one seems to ever have, and do that on their characters. Or some one could just let large amounts of INF sit in their email for long periods of time, it's theoretically possible for one player to have trillions of INF stored up across ALTs, in email, in bids on the market etc. And it's no longer even the slightest bit difficult to transfer. So why have an Inf cap at all? Does it serve some function I'm not aware of? I mean it makes max bid on the Auction House 2 billion, but people can still get around that so easily it's not like it presents a huge hurdle.
  20. Seriously, get over it.

The Spam can't be that bad. I play on Virtue, and except in Cap and AP, I see absolutely no spam for AE. Even in Cap and AP, I see some spam but never enough that it even registers to me anymore.

If I do notice it I'm usually like , "Huh? People still broadcast for AE farms? I thought that was over Like I15".

Exploits will continue until the game goes offline. Even if the developers plug every hole in AE, people will find that one magical little thing that yields them an extra 2% XP per kill and they will farm it to get to level 50 2% faster than before.

It's part of this game, it's part of ANY game, online or not, so seriously, get over it.

Ever played laser tag? You probably dodged some too.

Lasers travel at the speed of light, true, they are "light" after all.

However the person firing the laser, still has to wield the gun accurately and fire it quickly.

If you can move fast enough to throw off their accuracy or avoid their aim, you can dodge lasers.

Batman is fast enough and agile enough that he would have no trouble dodging things being shot at him since he is usually much faster than the people shooting at him.

Obviously he will be missed, it may be time to go buy some of those movies of his I don't own at the moment. So long Mr. Nielsen and thank you.

How did you guys did it? What strategy you guys used on the Big Meanie and the eternal wave of friends that help him?
Well it was a really good run and I had a fantastic team, including some peoples I've teamed with a few times recently, always nice to have familiar faces.

This run was a little easier than others since other people on the team new the Cuda SF better. That was nice since I didn't know things like, you don't need Mueller to follow you in the second mission, you can just Stealth +TP your team to the last part and click the computer and it'll be fine.

So we did lots of stealth TPing into the last room on the second mission, and the fourth mission, made some of it go faster.

For the final battle I worked with the strategy everyone mentioned here. But it was a little weird at first. We got the first ambush to spawn, but then after the first group it stopped. Just one spawn and done. So I was scratching my head, I was getting people ready to attack him to trigger the ambush again, then just as we go into the room, the next spawn happens. WE back up, kill that group, then stop...

Then it kept doing this for the first ambush wave, it'd do a spawn, stop for a couple minutes, right when we were going to attack it'd happen again. However by the time the first wave started spawning in the back of the cave, it came pretty steadily.

We fought in the back of the T junction in the Cave, since Big R was coming down pretty far in that room and we wanted to be safe. After the first set of ambushes was done, we smacked him to get the second set and then we were just fighting ambushes in the caves for like 20 minutes. It was non stop and actually a lot of fun, a little harrowing when they started coming from the ROOM and the cave at the same time, but the team had fun with it, spanked the 5th column up and down the caves and then when it was all done we went after Big R himself.

Fighting him without constant ambushes is SO much easier, never been on a team that cleared them all before. He has a couple nasty attacks and his AOE lightning had a couple close to dieing a couple times, but between a couple rads doing great Debuffs and probably the best Tanking Brute I've ever seen, and loads of damage, we got the job done.

We had an MM who had never done the SF or any Masters run, so it was fun showing him how to do the entire thing right, and while he had the temp power, my blaster and another blaster had the Dimensional Grounding Ray from the Kahn TF, not sure if it does anything or not in the Cuda TF, but we used it on Reichs along with the MMs temp, just in case.

He went down without any real problems. But it was a really good Run, I can't stress how awesome that team was. One of the things I've really enjoyed about these Masters Runs, is that I've had a chance to play with some people who are really at the top of their game, great builds, know exactly what their doing. Seems like the Mo Runs brings the top tier players out of the wood work and it's nice to have a Team of really hard core, top of the line players running around with you.

Anyway, thank you all for the help again, that pulling ambushes and staying back strategy is pure win...
  24. So thank you all for the advice!

Last nights attempt failed, due to communication issues.

Tonights attempt got the job done with style!

Thank you to all the people on Virtue who did a run with me especially those on the team that pulled it off tonight.

Thank you to the people here with the advice, it paid off, it worked perfectly and now I have the last of the Mo Badges currently in the game! I'm very excited...

    So thanks again guys!
