Before the changes to Burn and Shield Charge, Shield was the more offensive set. Three minutes faster clearing identical missions in AE. (6 minutes to 9 minutes on average. SD/Ice vrs Fire/Ice. SD/Fire was even faster)
I no longer have my second account to directly compare the two sets anymore though.
Burn has been greatly improved, but only affects 5. SC has been lowered, but affects 16. AAO > FE. The recharge still sucks.
If you want to farm... scrapper or brute. Higher damage and can be soft-capped, just takes a bit more. SD/SS brute is nice. -

crickets? No one can offer any advice on which alpha slot would be better to pursue over another?

This is my current build for my fire/ice tank. I have not yet slotted an Alpha on him yet. I am wondering which would be better.
Is the higher resistance going to make a noticeable difference?
I dont think higher defense would since he doenst have any to begin with.
Ice melee sucks for damage anyways and would the increase over ED make any difference?
Same basic questions for the stone/fire...

I have Tough and Weave on all my tanks to get closer to the cap for defense.
I do have and use Tough/Weave on my stone tank as well. I do not always use Granite and sitting at 39% S/L/E/N is all that is needed sometimes.
For Ice and SD I highly recommend it. Getting closer to the cap and being able to use IO bonuses for other things is nice. Slotting for recharge really helps both. -
ice/fire does fine, SD/fire does better. Also does better on a scrapper or brute. SD/SS does pretty well too.

ITF - EB's galore. Lots of ambushes... but not overkill.
Khan - simple and fun
Tin Mage - I like the challenge
Sister Psyche (I really wish it was higher level though.) - Freaks...
Hess - All in one zone and a giant robot in a volcano.
KHTF - progressive difficulty and all in one zone
Shadow Shard on Invincible... just a challenge. Needs a bit of rework I think now. -

The first toon I ever made was on a different server by accident. It was a Spines/invuln scrapper. I remade it on Champion and it was originally named MorningStar. I hated the . at the end though... it finaly made 50 and has become a fun toon with IO's. It is now known as Morgenstern (and no friggen . ) It took a while to get to 50 after ED and the only reason i didnt delete it was because of the celebrant badge.
My second toon, and first 50, was Ice Ember,my fire/ice tank(?) which has gone through various states of hate. i unfortunately made that toon my badge toon which has turned out to be a mistake.
My third toon, and now the one I play most often is my Rad/Rad defender, which is now known as Kronomancer. (Originally was Fallen.Star and I still hated that blasted .) I HATED this toon in the beginning. But is now rather fun and may become my badge toon... but I have ALOT to catch up on if I decide to do that. (I still have Malaise pants on a costume and I wish they were still an option)
Quick Witted, Mind/kin troller, was the second 50 and very fun. I just brought it out of retirement and almost finished an IO build for it. it had every debt badge before level 50 courtesy of the Shadow Shard TF's.
I have an elec/elec blaster which will now forever live on test server at lvl 36. D'Fibrilator was deleted after ED and the gutting that electricity took.
I deleted a BS/Regen three times before I created Asya, who is now retired.
Too many other toons to list and tell stories on. -
I love Storm. It is a fun set but does have a bit of a learning curve to not be hated. My fire/storm corruptor is amazing. my earth/storm controller is amazing(but not soloable...) My storm/archery is... lacking. I want the freezing rain/rain of arrows combo which is why I still have it. Storm/ice probably would have been better. I have a storm/sonic as well which is also great.
Freezing Rain is awesome. Hurricane is situational according to play style. Lag and hurricane coupled with super jump can be bad... Tornado is also situational. I use it on AV's after the spawn is defeated. Hurricane and tornado are great "oh crap" powers too. If things start going south, the mass chaos they cause has saved the team before.

I have a shield/ice on my deactivated second account which out performed my fire/ice before the last Burn change. I am afraid to know how sad ice melee is without Shield Charge or Burn.
I enjoy WP as a scrapper and brute. -
Attacks are under slotted and armors are over slotted. Invincibility is your friend. You are capped without Maneuvers with a couple people in range without any issue. Drop Maneuvers and slots on Unyeilding and Tough. 4 slots of Reactive Armor is plenty. Move the extra slots to your attacks.
Dull Pain is underslotted and Combat Jumping and Taunt are way over slotted.
And do you have the 2 billion influence for the PVP IO?

fire/ice tanks used be everywhere with the Burn/Ice Patch combo. With the recent changes to Burn it is a pretty good combo again. It is not as strong as any other tank. Versus minions and Lt's it does pretty well about eliminating them before the hits take it down. (I dont have my shield/ice anymore for comparison though)
ice/fire is still nice. Ice is easily soft/capped and endurance is not an issue after 26. Fire melee is great. Ice has a weakness for the heavy hitters, but that is what Hibernate is for. -
I have been exemplaring down and have been using consume. I dropped it for several years because of the long recharge. I still rarely use it. It may go away again, just depends on what I will put into its spot. The extra hitpoints and recovery set bonuses are nice....

I deleted an acc/dam HO while super jumping.
I lost a ribo to the market because I didnt log in a toon within 60 days... I am so glad they removed that.
I sold a 150mill crafted enhancement for 40mill... It was from a drop and not from merits so I wasnt too upset. -
My ice/stone tank can use Seismic Smash twice in one Build Up... I really should play it more.
