Can anyone write up a quick description of the mishes involved in the States TF for people who may not head over to the test server?

  2. Ran this on the euro test for performance reasons and formed a pug of PvP toons consisting of

    1 lvl 50 kin/elec defender
    1 lvl 47 kin/elec defender
    1 lvl 50 emp/dark defender
    1 lvl 50 emp/something defender (I forgot)
    1 lvl 50 sonic/elec blaster
    1 lvl 50 ice/rad
    1 lvl 50 ill/rad

and my lvl 50 ice/em tank (without taunt)

Blitzed through it, Dr Aeon was awesome and whupped us a few times till I shouted at whoever picked up the temp to use it. the last mission was pretty easy, beat up the lvl 54 AVs with no issues (GW, Shirocco, Scorp, Mako order) The flyer was laughably easy to kill but we had issues on the towers and the repairers as we were in pvp spec we didnt have the aoe to deal with the repairs fast enough.

So off to BB we went, grabbed the shards and the ice/rad went off to respec into ice patch and we got back to discover the last mission was reset. Doh!!!! Oh well, 8 shivans out, 7 of them with veng and all SBd destroyed the AVs in about 2 minutes, the shivans killed Black Scorpion on their own and then we just ploughed through the rest of it.

My verdict, pretty fun TF and yes the flyer respawns

oh and no AVs dropped anything which isnt funny or fair, no enhance, no inspirations

The only awkward situation I foresee is an optimal strategy that requires a certain AT and no more of that AT being allowed into that Hive till a less optimal player leaves the zone... talk about awkward.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I hate "optimal". I think people need to stop thinking "optimal" and start thinking "doable". "Optimal" is what gets the LRSF a bad name.

    [/ QUOTE ]

no the poorly designed last mission is what got the LRSF a bad name
  4. hamidon still sucks and is a tedious affair, adding a couple of extra tasks to the event does nothing to resolve the fact that fighting a blob of jelly just isnt fun. Statesman wishes they invested more time into the hamidon in the first place as it didnt come out the way they envisioned, this is just puting a band aid on a decapitation victim. Hamidon should have evolved into a Galactus like entity IMO

I am also fearful of the way the devs equate rediculously hard with fun, the rollbacked AV/GM buff is a prime example as is the exclusionary setup of the last mission in the RSF which renders many ATs simply unwanted.

Punching deadly jelly = dull dull dull

Not as useful as the Tank Version as it has no –Acc component. I don’t recommend it. It does stack nicely with Arctic Air, but there are more important things to get!

It lacks the -dam of a tankers CE, neither of them have -ACC AFAIK, that said dominator CE does have better numbers for slows than the tank version according to nofuture
  6. an interesting snippit about the devs feelings on inf transfering, Im informed somewhere in the game files is an announcement along the lines of "You have been blocked for money transfering"

I can't believe that developers who live in America with all of its examples of free markets would think of this system as being anything but another drag in CoX.

    [/ QUOTE ]

alkward and annoying = fun, dont you know that?

I dont know, seems to me that it takes a certain level of arrogance to ignore all the systems that we have in place in RL that works just fine and throw this mess in. My moneys on this being this issues arena/base white elephant, shame really as it could ahve been a good thing.

Eh, I don't even mind that, to be honest. I even understand why they chose to do it that way, although I question the quality of information they're actually going to get out of it.

What I mind is that we weren't told that in the first place, that we were in fact told that they wouldn't be revealing how they chose the testing group, and that we have to get that info from the UK community mod.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I dont mind it, just think its pretty pointless as the mindset isnt really going to be beneficial to identifying problems as getting a few people from the boards in there.

And I fully agree, the communication from Cryptic/Ncsoft is comical.

    Yeah. heh.

You know what I'm going to stop arguing/whining about this.

Clearly when I9 comes out we'll see who is proven right/wrong.

For me, I'll just stand back, stick to trading with my friends, and watch the fun.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, the fact that Posi posted as recently as yesterday about an obviously flawed "consignment house" system tells me the group on Test right now (however they were picked) either isn't doing a fabulous testing job (and I don't think anyone would be surprised by that) or maybe they're just not focusing on the mechanics of the selling system yet.

Eh, there'll be plenty of time for the real playerbase to see i9 on Test and cause all sorts of havoc with this system, so maybe we can change it before it goes live.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Seriously. Makes me wonder who the hell the got testing this stuff. Chimps?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, Bridger just posted over on the UK forums that it's mostly Cryptic and NCSoft staff and their friends and family. Whether they're chimps or not, I won't weigh in on.

Personal opinion is no, probably not chimps, but YMMV.

Player A1 puts up a Level 12 TO for 5,000,000 inf.

Player B1 puts up the same Level 12 TO for 1,000 inf.

Player A2 (trying to transfer funds) offers to buy that level 12 TO for 5,000,000 inf.

Since player B1 wants less, and is obviously trying to move his items faster, his "for sale" is processed first, so he ends up with 5,000,000 inf (minus fees).

    [/ QUOTE ]

This has been discussed on the Victory Forum, but there are safeguards any player can take to make sure they don't get swindled by jerkweeds trying to make a quick buck.

    1) Don't try to transfer too much at once.
    2) Use an enhancement or item that is not found at a store (i.e. don't use anything divisible by 5). There are currently over 9000 posibilities to use.
    3) Check the store to make sure the enhancement you're trying to swap is NOT offered as an auction currently. I assume there will be tools to do so.
    4) List your enhancement and immediately swap characters.
    5) Before buying your enhancement, make sure someone hasn't listed a similar enhancement. If there's another listing there, simply cancel your original offering and try again another time.

    Common sense will trump scofflaws.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My Level 4 SO Enhancements will be PERFECT for this!

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you have such things, then YES they will be. I deliberately eliminated low levels from my calculations above for DOs and SOs. Level 4 SOs have a very small possibility of existing, but they will be very rare. (The lowest SO I've seen is level 12.)

Thing is I probably will only buy and sell at the consignment house. Frankly I won't bother using the outside trading. I'm not that desperate for influence. It still is essentially meaningless once you have a character high enough level. Sure in the 1 - 30 range influence is tight and you fight for it but after that? Phswahh. Its easy to get, so I don't see why people are wanting to sell for high values? So you have a rare recipe and can't get more than say 50k for it? So? This is bad why?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not so bad. I'm fine if people only want to get an HO for 50K. Let the suckers put there's up and get screwed. Mines get traded with my friends.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I will buy there (should there be anything) but wont sell there, I dont need any inf and would sooner give HOs, IOs, reciepes and so on to my friends and carry on deleting the lvl 53 SOs I dont need than to use WW in its current incarnation.

WOW does that suck. All this is going to do is keep prices artificially low. You won't be able to sell anything for anywhere near what it's worth (which, contrary to popular opinion, can be objectively estimated in this game). Even if people are willing to pay that much no one will dare list an item for anything even close to fair asking price, because the sale will almost certainly go to someone asking less. Once players sass the dynamic (which was, like, yesterday) they'll bid up from practically nothing every time.

Since the consignment houses are cross-server (another monumentally retarded idea), all it takes is one joker out of 170,000 players willing to give away what you're trying to sell to keep prices depressed. Under this system, if I had invention items I couldn't use or keep, I'd try to barter them for items I could use, inefficient as that might be. If I couldn't, I'd destroy them before putting them up for consignment under these rules. Why should I sell things for a fraction of what they're worth?

As for using the system for inf transfer: why is this even possible? Every buy/sell order should be tagged with the player's global ID. Orders from matching IDs get blocked. Easy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

QFT. FF 11's auction system was the worst of all the possible ones they could have picked. And what's crazy is that it's not even a consignment. It's a blind auction. It's going to ensure that really valuable stuff is sold directly or bartered.

Cripes why must we always do things the hard way in this game....

    [/ QUOTE ]

This smells of some of the statements made by Statesman about how they didn't anticipate how bases and prestige would be used/not used by the playerbase.

    deja vu

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ah bases, they seem to have abandoned them to the base kick bug, no IOPs, half the stuff not working and still to expensive for all but hardcore SGs. Wouldnt be so bad if you could have 75 players in an sg as opposed to just 75 characters but this is not the place to go on about bases. Makes you wonder if they will abandon inventions in a half broken situation like they have done with bases and arenas.

You do realize I've done this so far with Stone Armor/Super Strength (Tanker) and Fire/Fire Brute? Next is probably going to be a Corruptor. If they start nerfing, they may as well do another global nerf cause I can do this with any character.

    Or they could buff AV's.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Or we could reduce the effectiveness of a suite of Temp Powers. Shivans and the Nuke's are pretty dang good.

And before more people jump on Optimus, we've known those powers were over the top since they were created.

    [/ QUOTE ]

yeah that would be a great call, nerf the only reason people go to BB and WB and make themselves targets and may discover a taste for pvp.

Shivans and nukes are not worth the time invested as they stand, they are not needed for anything, hell we dont use any on the RSF runs anymore as getting them is slower than just smacking up the heroes.
  21. I found this while having a search for some info on the pistol powerset that I had a vague recollection about and figured some people may want to read this. I always find it interesting to see just how bad things could be too (teletanking)

    Quick Reply:
    Great thread!

A comment on datamining. While I can't tell you exactly how and what we look at in datamining, I can say that we don't usually look at 'Defiance' in and of itself. Overall performance matters much more than any single aspect of a character.

    [/ QUOTE ]

cool, can you explain the overall performance of AR blasters which suffer from a terrible draw root each and every single time they go from using secondary/pool powers to primary? It seems a little bit unfair seeing as no other weapon based sets have this root with the exception of archery when flying.

A little off topic perhaps but when "datamining" shows up I really would like to see how perceived underperformers like AR (and the draw root is a joke) really measure up in "overall perfomance" against the rest. Is it a case of /em blasters do ok so all blasters are fine in the way that the entire controller AT was overperforming due to the apparant existance of fire/kins.

For the love of all things brown and liquid.. Please make Defiance with an equal slope verses the slow slope of death it currently retains.

And now the Issues are getting smaller and even less frequent? Issue-7 was a lame duck that should come out of Crytic's pockets, not ours. Boasting an increase in subscription numbers while shrinking the Development team down to a skeleton crew while still charging the same price is unnacceptable. I think I've seen enough... I'm tired of getting screwed. This game's potential has finally decreased the the point that it fails to balance the monthly cost and time investment.

I'll be back when/if they ever come around and accept their share of the burden.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Skeleton crew? Guys, let's not jump to conclusion here. First, Cryptic Studios hasn't layed anyone off. A quick glance shows we're hiring! Second, NCSoft announced cutbacks, but the announcement didn't specify where people were taken off. Remember, NCSoft is a leading MMORPG publisher. They have LOTS of stuff on the burners...Most of which never see the light of day.

A quick look at our release schedules show that only the first issue was released within two months. The second issue was 79 days later (as noted in this thread). Issue 3 then followed 110 days later, Issue 4 120 days, etc. We started trending more towards 3/year within a few Issues...mostly because we started learning about the production & QA cycle.

Bottom line: CoH remains a success in NCSoft's portfolio. They're continuing to financially support the product for a long time to come...Cryptic Studios loves the game. It's our baby. The game isn't going anywhere!

    [/ QUOTE ]

A very "political" answer, statesman didnt actually mention or even touch on anything about COx staffing numbers, hiring people means nothing if they are diverting staff to other projects. Granted the quote he was replying to didnt specifically mention the COx development team but given the boards I think its fair to assume he wasnt refering to Cryptic as a whole, merely the apparant exodus of the COx dev team to other projects.
