Biff and Crimson are two missions you're guaranteed to fail if you can't KD or spam some kind of slow/immob. If I run into them the best bet is just to Mission Drop to successfully complete the mission. I think the mission writer intended you to fail them.
Stopping 40 Fir Bolg is bad in a group, because if one big gang gets past you oh man that's half your counter. But it's a cool mission because you don't have to stand there, you can be proactive and attack the Fir Bolg spawns while keeping an eye for drive-by pumpkins. The final arc of Croatoa where you have to guard the henge for 15 minutes is far worse imo. But I also hate the TV reactor room for being a "sit on your thumbs for x minutes waiting for spawns" objective. They suck. I always save the mission drop option for that mission to round off Croatoa. -
Quote:Nah, Oni actually is sort of lame. Mechanically he's pretty cool since he spams holds and immobilizes, but the oni is a demon--not a ninja. I can't remember if they had Archery in the game when CoV launched, a ninja archery/TA boss probably could've fit the theme of natural ninja henchmen better. But, that isn't going to change so not much point in complaining. If it was mostly fire........
Then Oni would be redundant.
Oni saves us from a lame MM demon with only fireball and rain of fire.
Not saying Oni is lame, just saying they have to come up with something else now, otherwise.....
meh...
is going to be the most excitement from me.
I just hope the Demons don't make the Oni look like a total putz. Genin are already the squishiest feeling minion, and then to to have their shining gem of a Boss outdone...geez. -
Doctor Vahzilok, as kooky as he was, was actually was out to help people originally. It's entirely possible Tyrant's ethical flexibility would've permitted Doctor Vahzilok free reign to conduct whatever human experimentation in the name of advancing medical science he wants to conduct.
But someone producing and then releasing a horde of brainless yet apparently super-powered Ghouls to protect something that's deeper in the ghoul-infested territory? Now that sounds like MAD SCIENCE!
THOSE FOOLS! THEY NEVER UNDERSTOOD THE GENIUS OF DOCTOR CREED! THEY ONLY CARED ABOUT ROBOTS. BLUE ROBOTS! SILVER ROBOTS! STUPID ROBOTS! THEY DIDN'T WANT TO UNLOCK THE ORIGIN OF POWER, AND NOW THEY WILL PAY! THEY WILL ALL PAY! LAUGH WITH ME! MU HA HA HA! -
Quote:And they come from a faction that used to be american nazis funded by an old gestapo war criminal (the Center), but magically all became a faction of fascists and aliens run by an old Italian guy (the Center) overnight. The Council is *made* of goofy dumbness. And just try to untangle Requiem--most I can figure is he's trying to play the Center and the Reichsman against each other in his continuing mission to become the Nictus Emperor on Earth. Only way I can imagine him sending Columnists from his temporal strongholds to free Reichsman and recontact Axis America.
I'll admit I can't stand the Kheldian lore. It smacks of super goofy "cosmic" comic book plots from way back. Also there's a rather shocking amount of similarity to D&D's Kalashtar race. Which I also find a bit dumb. -
Quote:At one point I had logged into the dead Victory server to take a looksie at my ancient no longer played year 1 DM/Regen scrapper there (a character that predated I1) and discovered I had a number of Acc/Dam HOs and the spiffy heal/end ones in IH from back when I used to raid Hamidon way back when. Massively overslotted, of course, because of ED and because IH isn't a toggle anymore.Today I decided to log into some alts that I haven't played in ages. I can't stand seeing alts that haven't been logged into past 50 days, so I logged in everyone.
Also, looking at costumes from that long ago is nostalgic. Course, I think the ugliest one was a Supergroup uniform that a guy kept bugging me to make so I'd fit in on SG groups. -
I yoink the Ghost Slaying Axe now and then. It comes in handy on Posi, being able to hack a Spectral Demon Lord or spectral knights for a good chunk of their health bar.
And occasionally I go chop Adamastor with it for giggles.
I'd also have to nominate the Repair Robot for being pretty useless. A heal that only heals a pet robot, on a 2 minute timer? Kudos for it being a complete heal, I guess. Maybe if your assault bot took a real pounding and you were challenging yourself by taking Trick Arrow (no heal arrow for you) as your secondary and wanted some kind of healing ability...even then Aid Other would probably be the better choice. -
Carnies are the only faction that don't have resist out their wazoo to Lethal, though, unlike every other freakin' faction. Except, maybe Mu...I think their big resist is in the Energies and Elements department.
Carnies are good times when you have a sword/claws/gun/whatever else does strictly Lethal.
Probably one reason they've not done the Psi Weaponry like some scrappers have wanted for their Psylocke-types, or the leet pvpers who want Psi because it's such an unresisted/undefensed against damage type. It might actually be even WORSE than just another sword set in PvE. I know some enemies just resist the heck out of Psi, even worse than Lethal.
I'd rather Scrappers have a new Sock Offense with a Swap Ammo mechanic. You can load a hard piece of ice in that sock, put a piece of poop in that sock like old EverQuest players used to do (poopsocking was required on long raids when you couldn't go AFK to bio) and it's so nasty it gives off toxic fumes, or SET IT ON FIRE FOR THE WIN! -
I wish we had Secret Bases instead of SG Bases.
I doubt they'd do anything to be a moneysink. To make a real a moneysink Posi is going to have to sit down with Castle and be like, "ok, we'll sell a level 50 character a new Enhancement slot for 1 billion influence" or "OK, Invention Enhancements need to have a Durability mechanic implemented to become an Inf sink, even though classically everyone subjected to durability has hated durability, because it's designed to be a moneysink".
There's just ridiculous lumps of money floating around in CoX and there's never been any real drainage besides...I dunno, Costume Contests. -
I think it'd be a good way to spice up old purse snatchers. Although, street pounding went the way of the dinosaur ages ago. It'd probably be for the best just to finally shrug and reduce Outdoor defeat debt to the same amount as Indoor defeat debt.
And make shiny badges.
Maybe you could earn a merit for doing the good deed. Or something. Side missions tend to be the skipped part of safeguards since pugs tend to be too disorganized to complete them :/ -
The Rikti were supposed to be bottled up in the War Zone and deep below Paragon according to CoH story lore, I thought.
Not to say I'm opposed to metahuman activity actually happening somewhere BESIDES Paragon and the Rogue Isles. I mean, if I was a supervillain, I'd be terrorizing the OTHER side of the continent instead of the one swarming with superheroes. Or the other side of the world would be even better. Korean supervillainy!
If we could work in Coralax somehow that'd be groovy. Coralax, the great unused. Heck, make Antarctica into Atlantis. I don't think the Circle or the Mu are Atlantean, so we still have an ancient mystical city out there laying unclaimed by anything besides terrible sea monsters, looking for a way to wake old Leviathan back up. -
ED sort of nerfs that. Sure, you could slot in 5 Accuracy and say you never miss, but the game mechanics say you will miss sometimes and you've overslotted accuracy to the point where they provide no benefit.

I like the Soldier armor. Granted, male Widows look terrible and don't even get the signature Widow buttcape because males and giants aren't even supposed to be Widows in the first place but gender equality demanded they not lock you into a gender in addition to locking you into an origin...
The finale mission with Statesman was pretty bad. I seem to remember you bust in when States is giving a speech like, "HEY GUYS DOCTOR BRAINSTORM IS PROLIFERATING POWERS; OH, EXCEPT WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT HAPPENED LIKE OVER A YEAR AGO EVEN THOUGH I SPEAK OF THIS STUNNING NEW DEVELOPMENT IN THE FUTURE TENSE." That mission needs yanked out, and it needs yanked out bad. Maybe it could be tied into Praetoria. You decide, "hey if I can't conquer this world without bringing the end of all life then maybe I could go conquer Praetoria. I know, I'll go beat Emperor Cole and sit in his giant golden throne!" -
There are also Acc/Mez or Damage/Mez HOs which are real nice for the Oni.
No clue how MMs are in PvP. Storm is fun if you really want a workout, and I think Hurricane's incredibly obnoxious Repel would probably actually useful in PvP. Trick Arrow has some neat toys, and I assume Glue Arrow would do wonders. It sure is an icky ability to get hit with in PvE. But no Heals...not even o2 boost. You're stuck with...gulp...Aid Other from medicine. -
Quote:I could put up with concept builds, but I really don't understand the petless MM. The no speed boost Kin? Dude got SICK AND TIRED of having to SB the team every 20 seconds, probably. Long as he didn't skip Fulcrum Shift: now that would be really dumb...that's why I sorta want to make a DP/Kin corr when GR's special edition comes up for sale but at the same time I know I'd hatehatehate it because they're expected to be nothing but buffbots for the brutes. Screw dat, i'd go Trick Arrow first and then I don't have anything to buff nobody with. Glue and oil, glue and oil!
the petless MM
The petless MM is ignoring the defining aspect of the AT just so you can have a few really poor quality Pulse Rifle Blasts, though--I don't even see how it could function without a team. But in my experience teams only want an MM slightly more than they want Stalkers but would much prefer MOAR DAMAGE or corrs or doms to either AT. But at least no more petless Thug MMs now that DP is in. I expect Pulse Rifles to be proliferated eventually and be some kind of half AR half energy set, and then these petless abominations will be done for.

Quote:Nah, you just needed QR and Stamina. 6 slotting them was to...I guess insure your blue bar NEVER moved from 100. I recall my earliest DM/Regen tried my best to NOT take Stamina because I hated the idea of required powers (Stamina and Hasten being the main offenders), but I eventually caved since running IH was a monster hog like running Focused Accuracy is, but I never had a problem with endo again after stamina. Maybe I had just learned how to manage my blue bar better (like turning off sprint in combat--how hard was that for people?)Not to mention six slotting stamina as well because it was a huge endurance hog.
I still dislike the glowing pom pom hands of Hasten. Geko could've saved himself a lot of trouble if he had just gone after the root of much evil, Hasten. But in those days he had to worry about things like Regenners being ubergods who couldn't die without taking a massive alpha hit because of IH, Fire Armor using burn to PL off incinerating swarms of rikti monkeys and DE swarms, City of Blasters crying about how they were in permanent debt, Jack demanding they put lolpvp into their MASSIVELY IMBALANCED GAME instead of doing something useful with their time, and Castle...well, Castle probably just doesn't want to rock the boat that much once he took over I guess. Here's to hoping Babs gets Power Pool Customization in so you can turn those stupid glowies off. I still think Hasten should've traded places with SR's Quickness. Hasten is so ludicrously powerful...even moreso back when you could perma it without trouble. I mean, nowadays you can perma it again with IOs, of course, but that costs time and money and fiddling around with builds in mids. -
Inspiration Mutation: now you can convert inspirations at a 2:1 rate instead of 3:1! wee!

Sounds like the leaders of those sewer teams were AE baby quality. R U HEALOR? AE GRUP LF BROOTS N KIN!
Sewer team group composition really doesn't matter much. Everyone is a weak kitten at level 1, and you should be about level 8 or 9 in a few minutes and you just kamikaze yourself back out to AP hosp and proceed directly to level up and hitting places where the mobs aren't all green and gray.
If the sewer groups are becoming that asinine just street sweep and then hop on over to KR to start with the scanners. Hey, the accolade you get for every safeguard doesn't do anything, but it's shiiiiiiiny and AP's is easy to miss.
Apparently some people had been doing a pretty funny thing and were anchoring themselves to a level 5 team leader with XP turned off and dungeon crawling through the sewers for phat xps during double xp weekend, though. I never woulda thought to do that. Maybe that's why they were being stupid. -
Got two alts I had been considering making but kept being too lazy to bother making to 20 for Stamina. Happy enough.
Was nice to see freedom and virtue yellow dot, but that's probably more due to reactivation weekends that always come with double xp more than anything. Know at least a few people who only come out to play CoX when it's free. -
Quote:That happened in the competition's game, I noticed. You were kinda dumb not to be a flying character when fly was not only faster, but also safer.
If Fly had SS type speed or even SJ type speed why would you take any other travel power? Other than RP, that is.
Say Fly sucks when you're trying to get around the Shadow Shard, though. If there were more floating islands in the sky and dumb jump pads things would be different around here! -
I think it's a pretty nice set.
It doesn't have Rain of Arrows, but Rain of Arrows is...well...honestly, it's overpowered. No other blaster gets such a sweet nuke. It's like the wonderful warshade Quaser + 1 small cab + Stygian Circle to suck back full endurance, it's that cool. If you could shoot HoB from range instead of PBAoE, well, it'd be a pretty darn cool nova-lite, too.
never had an AR get high enough to see what their nova does since i don't particularly enjoy playing blasters. It's just a long cone like PR, but with more max targets, isn't it? -
oh, nm, just grabbing the fresh one from cohtitan runs it. mids has been getting really buggy with how it updates lately (before I upgraded to win 7 it would bug out with XP :/), but i guess that's to be expected with 3 different versions of windows people are running instead of just trusty old XP anymore.

Quote:Yikes. If you're just theorycrafting builds atm and don't have billions of influence, remember..PvP IOs trade at, like, the max tradeable inf cap. Of course, apparently some people have trillions or some ridiculous amount like that.
# (17) Gladiator's Armor - TP Protection +3% Def (All): Level 50 -
My ma/wp doesn't use CJ. That hero flies, because I got sick and tired of using SJ all the time so I fly with kung fu powah.
It's not required. It's just very popular considering it's a ridiculously cheap little toggle, and SJ is the best travel power anywhere besides inside the Shadow Shard. -
wait, aren't flowing tails and flowing long hair part of i17? Although I imagine it's similar to anchoring a cape onto your head, of course.
It'd be kind of funny if they ever put in weather and roll it off with an invasion of thundercloud monsters from Storm Palace retinted gray. THE COMING STORM!
