  1. Oh yeah, that lockdown the computers one in PI that was like a Huge map with 4 blinkies to hit and a 10 minute timer? I think that mission was intended to be failed to explain how the Praetorians got a foot in the door
  2. Quote:
Our "stealth" missions are a joke, in that no mission ever is designed for stealth, even those that have a briefing which claims they are.
there is one mission (in the whole game) where you can fail if you don't Stealth it. One of those Vanguard arcs, if you wipe out all the patrols it will be a failed mission (or maybe it doesn't--I never failed that mission on purpose to see if the mission text was lying and you could murderize all the rikti with impunity or not)

MA probably has a better variety of stealthier/READ YOUR MISSION CLUE type objectives.

CO was bad. A clunky, terrible interface to FIND groups and then everyone was a tankmage = nobody grouped to do anything because nobody needed anybody...except, maybe, against the Giant Monsters.

    Praetorian Sally

In Praetoria, Shadowhunter rides Sally around Talos harbor patrolling for Captain Mako and coralax infiltrators.
  4. Yeah, use the look at numbers. Those old descriptors were pretty much arbitrary descriptions that original Geko Power/AT guy that preceded Castle wrote. And I think you'd hit situations where it'd be like "Recharge: Long" vs "Recharge: Moderate" when moderate would take longer...the dude didn't really have any systematic approach he was just plugging stuff in and not looking at balance spreadsheets or anything (I suspect the same happened in Jack's new game)

I guess maybe the thinking was a SS using Jab and Fighting Pool: Punch could stack to disorient? Maybe it was supposed to mean help stack disorients with teammates (like a Martial Artist)? Who knows...ignore the written descriptions
  5. I dusted off an ancient Warshade that I had gotten to the mid-30s (back when they were, like, NEW ATs) with the free server transfers. I was always too lazy to level another one since kheldians were cursed with the hybrids suck syndrome. Kheldians...just sorta suck. PBs even worse than WSs. Had something like 50 free tailor sessions, heh.

maybe i'll finish getting it to 50 on a populated server. At least voids and quantums aren't one-shot kills anymore, and cysts aren't nearly as dangerous anymore.
  6. I think alternate models could be neat if customizing the pet's powers is a big messy bundle of timesink. Some tattooed Tsoo-type asian thugs for Ninjas instead of the generic ninja ninja...get some Clockwork or Nemesis type bots instead of default bots...Vahz type scientific zombies for Zombeh!...Family/Mook type goons for Thugs...uhh. Mercs? Different armor/fatigues?
  7. I've seen that bug resurface with my MM too. I assume it reared it's ugly head again with the implementation of that perma-buffed zoning pets. Makes me not want to play my MM. It gets real old resummoning pets if they get lost going through a door. They had it licked for awhile, so that's all I can figure.

MMs were unplayable before the upgrade powers were turned AOE. I tried a few times, but unless you enjoyed spending 10 minutes at the door summoning and buffing they were absolutely unplayable. A brute went THROUGH the map before you even STARTED the map. Only got a higher level MM when they buffed the buffs.
  8. Poison was only on MMs, right? They might just go "meh" at proliferating it and focus on bigger stuff. Like more Power Customization proliferation.

I think it was a pretty meh set for MMs, anyway. Making your allies get disoriented and begin puking everywhere after reviving them was always good for a laugh, though.
  9. i always assumed it was just redside zones were more complex. And they actually had things like smog and birds flapping around in the sky and stuff that blueside's atmosphere lacks.

i've never lagged too hard (places like PL central Cap and Atlas MA buildings were worse), but know people who would complain.

Btw, ATI cards have had problems running CoH. I'm not trying to say anything bad about them, but look at the huge thread in the technical forum that's been running for the past two years.
but now the main coh page has the ATI radeon logo down there instead of nvidia. Ultra Mode might be getting programmed around radeon cards instead of nvidia's or something, now. Or maybe they just sent the devs some cool free stuff
  11. The Rogue Isles are more like a bunch of warlords banded together to form one really crummy and discordant nation under Recluse while his Arbiters lurk in the shadows to make sure there's never a unified movement to depose the supreme leader. And, if all else fails, send in the elite Bane army which has no will of its own except Recluse's to execute everybody...and get to finishing up that Web so nobody alive can ever challenge him and win so long as he's in Grandville.

And if you ever show him you are capable of killing him he sends you on a suicide mission against the Freedom Phalanx and has a good laugh about how stupid you are. Oops, you came back? Uhhh...didn't expect that. Here, take a random a POS hami-o.
  12. It may be my playtimes but I haven't seen anybody bothering with the Supernatural Event--and considering it takes at least 1 team, more likely 2 to actually succeed at it, it seems sort of pointless to leave it running. Did they have a miscommunication and leave the supernatural apocalypse running when they meant to turn it off and leave the zombeh apocalypse running like normal (can't think of if i've seen zombie invasion lately)?

It really should only maybe happen one day a week, or maybe happening a weekend a month. That way the people who want to participate aren't diluted by every hour or two Supernatural Event happening in ...

I've been on Virtue most of the time lately too, so yeah. Lots of freakin' supernatural apocs on that server. Maybe the LGTF is spawning them instead of Rikti invasions, haven't been seeing many of those and I had been trying to keep a bit of an eye out to get the rikti's big honkin' metal sword for my katana user (again, maybe my playtime just has nobody doing lady gray runs in that timeframe. On freedom they happen very regularly because there's plenty of speed LGTF/ITF groups who run those daily, like clockwork)
  13. I17 is probably going to be retcons to CoH story arcs about Praetorian Earth to clean up the in-game continuity from being Evil Goatee Paragon (where all the major superheroes are evil) to Emperor Cole, Beloved Tyrant of Paragon (hey Mother Mayhem isn't slicing people's brains up and turning them psychotic for laughs anymore. And Dominatrix just...yeah, isn't doing that anymore either)

And probably also getting some Praetorian story content in CoV. Maybe Malaise could show up to be the Rogue Hero--he bounces between being Psyche's brainwashed pet hero project and the sociopath villain he is depending on the flip of a coin, after all. He could be trying to sell some paintings to liven up Grandville Tower.

And an Empire vs Rebellion pvp zone you can go to without buying GR.

That would be enough to be a typical issue.

    Would You Buy...

I like bases and decorating but...probably not.

Of course, their habit is to put in a Power to sweeten the pot. If they had something like a secondary cheap start-up piece to supply another heap of control and energy to the base (for people who use bases like a personal apartment some extra juice could come in handy without having to upgrade to the next sized base), or something special like the ability for someone to purchase and place an Architect Room in your base or a Market vendor or a Tailor...or maybe special PvP Zone Teleporters so you wouldn't have to go hopping across the city to go to BB or Warburg to restock on shivans and nukes. Not really anything much, but it'd be something. Statesman just left Supergroup Bases to rot, and Posi threw his hands up and said "yeah we're never doing the Cathedral of Pain thing" and just smashed the excessive prestige costs with a sledgehammer.

They should lower the cape mission to level 14 when you know you can actually start flying. Where did they come up with level 20 for the cape unlock there is no rhyme or reason other then some random number out of a hat that I can tell.
it was the halfway point originally.

The early CoX development idea of carrot on a stick was earning your generic title at 15, the cape at 20, a secondary origin-based title at 25, and then your superawesome Aura at 30 to really show off in Atlas Park costume contests. And of course the 30s unlocked your primary and secondary's strongest power picks. Well, in theory at least...not every set had their best stuff located at the bottom of the power list. And then some overpowered Epic Pools came with that level cap raise.

If there's ever a CoX2 I hope they don't restrict capes and auras based off level again. Well, maybe restrict really cool ones. But, I mean, it was a running joke..a Skull shouts, "Look out, it's a Cape!" when you couldn't even wear a cape until 20 (or even funnier, before capes were even implemented). The competition didn't keep you from having a cape until you saved The City from being Destroid. They just locked the "cool" ones up in a bugged badges merchant.

Strangely enough, I've been more surprised by how many people don't modify their colors than by those that do. ....and in my experience, most have changed them to be more subtle, or at least changed the colors tastefully.
my scrappers and stalker turned as many auras off as you could. Luckily I didn't have anybody with flashy type secondaries whose only options were bright/dark. I keep one costume with default power appearances, too. I think the Bright/Dark stuff makes people lag more, especially it situations where there's a more people around.

And yeah, most cases it seems people did color tint to better colors except on gag costumes (everything on this costume are BRIGHT NEONS!)

    Hero MM?

Only one I can't really get is a necromancer hero. Sending wave after wave of mouldering corpses at people just seems inherently villainous. I guess they can claim nobody except bad guys are hurt in the process...all at the cost of a little bit of graverobbing and defilement.
  18. Yeah, Nosferatu is an oldschool DM/Regen. He's always been a big ol' pain in the butt, moreso when he's AV class. I remember good ol' times when we'd have to search for just a little extra muscle since he refuses to go down easily. Sort of like Ms. Liberty, who'll just perpetually cycle through that Dull Pain and godmode if you can't put her down.

Last time I came against him in one of those ouro 1-man TFs I just Shivan'd him. Take that, you crazy old nazi. He still roughed the shivan up if I remember.

it's perfect for Wentworths, because I don't have to worry about accidentally firing off one of my powers when I try to type a number
never thought about using it like that.

thought turning WW's into a power suppression spot like that room in the AE buildings nobody ever goes into would've been good, but maybe just have the brokers emanate a small range "Walk" aura to forcibly detoggle you when you're in the market...not as big a problem as it used to be since there seems to be less people hanging out rocking their autofire heal auras or whatever nowadays. good healz0ring.

    Hydra!

Yah, the Sewer Trial was a victim of Statesman being prone to heavyhanded nerfs.

they should've backloaded the XP you used to earn killing multiple baby krakens into the a Trial's completion reward hit. Instead he just nerfed Monsters so hard nobody but Badgers bothered with them ever again until Merits got put in, and the Trial got forgotten because it's pretty much the hardest thing in the game to pull off since they got rid of cheese tactics (like you used to spam Holds onto the head to disable the force field and not even worry about the generators if I remember right). Master runs? Just require the right combination of ATs with the correct primary/secondaries. Cmon, there's absolutely nothing hard about "lf granite tank/blasters/emp for MoSTF". But the Abandoned Sewer? That requires actual group coordination since you'll keep costing yourselves time if you don't blow the generators together, if you take too long to grab the anti-Hydra rifles.

A really slick team that works well together might end up with plenty of time to spare. Last time I ran it we did it back to back because we aaalmost finished it but the counter ticked off as we were mopping up rikti, like you guys . Then we went back and whupped it with time to spare. Always suspected one of the guys that got a hydra zap gun instead of a tentacle zap gun wasn't using it on our first run...

Nope. No blinky christmas presents laying around or Father Time calling you over to pocket D when I logged in. I was hoping it was reactivated too.

They also have those god-awful Glue Grenades, I believe, that slow your movement and recharge to a crawl until they wear off. Trick Arrow powers seems to actually be great...for mobs. If Mercenary henchmen for MMs had glue nades instead of flashbangs things would be different round here...

The upgrade the PPD gets from the mundane cops and SWAT to those elite anti-super SWAT units is amazing.

Then they got made 10 feet tall... I remember trying to hover above enemies and punch them while the caltrops ticked auto-hit damage on me from the ground below
I used to do that too. It was fun laughing at the Knives as they chucked handful after handful out which I just wiggled my supertoes over, or using blinding powder to confuse them and convert that massive field into MY massive field of caltrops. I think they made them reach you even if you weren't on the ground because of lolpvp. Since hover/fly is soooo overpowered? In an ideal world they'd take Caltrops away from the Minions, at least.
  23. I can only imagine disabling trial accounts being able to team leader was the devs thinking, "well, the RMTers might spam random invites and /team "BUY GOLD FROM BLAHBLAHRA.COM $10 FOR 100 MILLION!"

Of course, you could just automatically reject blind invites. Got into that habit during MA and the level 1s randomly inviting 50s and demanding you PL them. But if it's a farmer's bot it'll keep spamming out invites until a GM bans the account...and then it'll take maybe 5 minutes tops to activate a new trial account and spam invites until a GM bans it. Repeat ad naseum.

    New Cape Mission

Yeah, the ship interior was a new map when Striga was introduced. They spammed using it because it was new.

The abundance of kill all in them was...unwise. Stupid, stupid minion nobody saw hiding between crates.

I'm not opposed to kill alls, but I am opposed to kill alls in huge maps where you could miss a single spawn and spend 15 minutes looking for it wishing the map had a button you could press to teleport all surviving enemies to you. If they had a Radar power to reveal nearby hostiles on the map I'd totally buy it.

And pretty much everything connects back to Nemesis. I think he does some things just to keep heroes occupied with that and not looking into his vast network of linking conspiracies. Unleash a plague of dumb trolls to bother people. Let magic items and diabolic invocations trickle all the way down to the hellions. hand out copies of Thus Spake Zarathustra to the Skulls. supply all factions with Void Hunters, and he probably even had his hand in designing the council's anti-kheldian quantum weapons....
  25. I doubt it. I don't think an MM can farm BM faster, but maaaaaaaaaaan BM is so much better than farming Lib TV. Map isn't so big that you're already bored and only halfway through it, they don't autoveng...it'd be like heaven.

it's like people will load down on purples from blue and grind some Loyalist faction to haul them redside. If many people even bother to stay lackeys to Lord Recluse. (first time you prove you can beat him, what does he do? 'lol go fight the freedom phalanx while i just sit back here. don't die? ...uhh, yeaaaaah, ok. sure, i'm not purposefully sending you to get your face beaten in by the assembled surviving 8 or anything like that. here, have a crummy travelspeed/endrdx HO for your trouble.')
