  1. Consider Jack, or Atari, don't have their iron grip of abysmal fail over this game I don't see how it could blow back onto NCSoft or Positron.

Although there were a surprising number of people on those CO boards that thought the people making CO were the ones who made CoX. Which they weren't. I was like..."uhh, no, the people who made CoX are still the devs of CoX. They left Cryptic."
  2. New Maps. Cimeroran Tunnels were still just the same old cave kind of map, but at least they LOOKED new even if you recognized their layout. Seriously, Praetoria would best be having new mission maps.

I hope Praetoria has a third market. If merging the red and blue markets is impossible then put it on the tertiary Gray market that everybody can use!

Small playerbase is a problem, but it's an older game. It's sort of hard to draw new people to it. It's an accomplishment in itself to have survived 5 years running...just look at the new crop of MMOs, and I'd be amazed if some of them managed to have a Lifetime of more than a year tops. Hopefully, between red and blues being able to intermingle in Praetoria and the continuing expansion of the free server transfer service things and finally a new expansion pack things will be getting better.

I think random roaming respawns behind you could liven things up a bit. You'd have to watch your butts for the first time ever. Actually I think the rock dudes in the Hollows trial DO respawn but it's been an age since I ran that so maybe I'm just misremembering. Bring a Friend code is...eh. It might just make it easier to pull the whole room, if you end up flagging an enemy to run to nearby spawns an Alert them to your presence and get that gang to go train your group. The Tanker can be like, "cool that dude is doing my job herding the room FOR me!" Not to mention, in an outdoor map like ones in the ITF...oh man. It's already so laggy. Just imagine every soldier dashing off to aggro more of the many, many soldiers all over the place...oh man. Epic, neverending slugfest.

From the multiple times they've mentioned "elemental demons" and given Swap Ammo from DP, I'm betting that the demons will have some kind of optional powers - probably fire, ice, and earth. Maybe more.
That would actually make a sort of interesting new take on MMs.

Say your base Demons are just some ugly buggers with Smash/Lethal Whips. But in come the t1 and t2 upgrades called something like "Imbue Elements" and "Imbue Energies". Now, you could pick between applying Fire/Ice/Earth with t1 pet buff, and Energy/Negative/Radiation with t2. Lets say I want my Minions to be Ice imbued so they can use Frozen Fists to stack some Slow on their target or maybe go Earth to give them Stone Fists to stack chances to Disorient, but I want my Lt to be imbued with the Fire element because Fire is the best damage upgrade, and finally maybe sometimes I either want my Boss to be Ice too because it gives him great control when he's stacking his slows with the cute little lasher demon minions or I imbue him with Fire so he can run in and start slashing his flaming whip around like a Balrog. Of course I give the minions and lts Dark, because the Light upgrades all suck, but the Boss is getting sweet sweet radioactive energy for the debuffage. I'm having to GOTO order the little dudes to stand over there while I imbue them so they don't accidentally splash onto the other pet and overwrite previous imbue upgrades with the one I'm casting on those minions...Now you're actually thinking about how you want your pets buffed and masterminding how you're rationing the buffs out, instead of just summoning the lot of them and dropping the 2 buffs on their heads.

Of course, it might just be as endlessly hair-pullingly annoying as the old "dur lets make MMs buff pets ONE BY ONE" terribad original design, and 99% of MMs just say "screw this, FIRE/DARK CLEANSES ALL! MWAHAHA BURN THEM, MY PRETTIES"
  4. I want to see screenshots of the Auras the special 10 bucks more version will have. Emotes I never use, and a shadowy presence power that looks totally useless from what people link on the channels. If new auras look awesome that'll be my deciding factor.

lol, but they'd charge you an additional 15 buck microtransaction fee for the new content for 40-50 even if they had it. Or however much they're selling new content that should've been in the game when it launched for.
  6. Vista was junk. MS doing a money grab by releasing a beta test version of Win7. Upgraded into 7 recently with new hardware (sadly, not enough to set aside for a 200 dollar vid card upgrade to play ultra mode...but just shadows and shiny water, who cares?), it seems pretty good though. This one should last through the next windows "give us money" junk release and all the way to the next good one several years down the road

Doesn't matter so much for CoX, but new games look like they're starting to be vista/7 required. If Positron is secretly working on CoH2...

I'm pleasantly surprised at that. Actually, I just expected the Praetorian arcs in PI to be retconned to jive with Praetoria in i17

I bet Posi spit his coffee out when he saw the dataminers show how fast people were farming Merits from speed Posi runs, which were really fast and easy to duo or trio even before Super Sidekicking let you keep Stamina. How I got some merits, man.

I would argue Doctor Q needs that done much, MUUUUUUUUUUUCH worse than Positron at this point in time. Posi has become downright quick--unless it's being updated with a new story. 5th Column are on the streets again, nazis can be trying to blow up the dam! But you want to talk about BORING and LONG and COPY+PASTE missions everywhere? I did that godawful TF a few months back, and I still don't want to go near it for another year. That TF needs broken in half. Which could probably be done just eliminating the "OK, now go to the same lab and do the same objective again. OK, now go to the same lab and do the same objective again. OK, now go to the same lab and do the same objective again". Dr. Q straight up sucks...and it's so long you are HOSED if your leader goes LD and the star devolves to someone who is AFK or asleep, and the GM can't do anything to help you besides tell your team to schedule to log back in tomorrow and finish it.

Oh, and Faathim is a GOD. You should be able to contact him via ESP, or at least get that dude a cellphone that has coverage in the Shard. Just throwing that out there for Faathim's TF.

Unlocking Kheldians and Soldiers I don't really care. The only reservation is that you'll have Kheldians that don't know how to play a Kheldian running around. I dunno why everyone bashes the VEAT. Huntsmen are Offenders, they're cool.

Placate is not a stalker exclusive effect - it exists as an IO proc in the purple sleep set, and in a couple of different temp powers. It's not exactly common, but the precedent is there. It might not serve the core scrapper purpose of doing damage, but not every power is required to. It's also thematic as heck. Why should only evil ninjas be able to vanish in a cloud of smoke? Lastly, as it stands, it'd be a skippable power - possibly useful, but not mandatory - and I think it's important to leave some powers which can be skipped if you want. Basically, I don't think there's any real reason it *can't* be there, so I wouldn't mess with it.
Smoke Flash isn't even a Placate. Had it on my DM/Nin stalker, though it was placate, turns out to just be an aggro debuff. Scrappers can keep it, and skip it too. I guess maybe there are situations where you could find it useful. Me, if I'm in over my head I just Flee. I don't spend a power pick on getting something I can accomplish just by sprinting away from a bad situation.

Hide could just be moved down a few notches (1st power becomes the melee defense toggle) and turned into a clone of Cloaking Device instead of Hide. Scrappers don't need that HUGE AoE defense bonus that suppresses in combat--it's there so stalkers don't get dinked out of hide by splash damage and lose their crit. Scrappers don't need the complete invisibility from Hide, either.

Caltrops, yeah. Weapons pool had all the ninja stuff in it already. Smoke Grenade? Not like they're all that super great, but it's replacing a power that isn't all that super great besides for exploiting dumb mob AI Or could always rip off one of the passives people say are skippable, like take Resilience and rename it Esoteric Training or something. Heh. You not gonna disorient meh, Vahzilok Eidolon! And then it becomes a lowbie power to mule a steadfast onto, eh? See what I did there
  9. Cobra is certainly droppable power, although it does have a really cool alternate animation. I love that uppercut. I wish Babs had attached that to something else. Like, a uppercut/spin/uppercut for Eagles Claw instead of the slow baseball pitch (which I sorta got used to after watching it rake face)

cobra + eagles is nice. While I was hunting fake nems for the accolade before I dropped cobra, I would make sure to stunlock the sucker when he was about to pop his PFF. Stupid fake nems making me waste a minute for them to whip their staff back out.
  10. That might be some endurance overkill, specially with Conserve Power. Not that FA is good alternative, lol. I just took it and dropped the +perception IO in it...guess I could spot stalkers in RV, meh. Don't use it for anything...would probably end up taking conserve if I respec'd it again like you did. I can appreciate trying to make it so the blue bar never moves. One of the previous versions of my MA/WP did the QR/Sta/+Recovery IOs and the bar was pretty much solid and I was running some leadership (on a scrapper!: I had a team I played with each night and it helped ). Since then I shuffled powers around, dropped stamina but have Physical Perfection...had to get used to seeing my blue bar drop again. Used to just delete blue insps, now I use them again...heh. But in a team you probably have a Kin or an Emp. Mmm, endo recovery buffage.

I've never slotted my Rise with tohit debuff. Was I not doing something I should do, or is that just for a set bonus?

i pretty much agree. not buying a new video card just for what looks like shadows cast by a sun in the sky, and shiny water. I really don't care that much about either. Now, if they release Praetoria screenshots and show VAST improvements Ultra Mode could have, and it's just there's only so much you can do to 'upgrade' an old zone...

I'd be much more excited for a Costume Creator overhaul, to bring it more in line with what the competition does. Asymmetrical pieces, 4 colorable sections instead of 2, sheaths and gun holsters for the love of Dual Pistols...get the costume devs to work!
  12. Maybe they'll use Intimidate and Invoke Panic while screaming SWALLOW YOUR SOUL SWALLOW YOUR SOUL!

Or maybe the Boss is the Cyberdemon. The only way to beat it is to shoot at it until it dies.

    Level 50 Aura

I'm wondering if the Alpha & the Omega auras that the GR special edition is going to have are level 1 and then some cool new unlockable level 50 auras, myself. Or if Posi was just taking a potshot at the "Omega System" the competition boasts.
  14. Bad idea. CO only did it because that game was a shoddy, buggy, incomplete game and a blatant money grab either due to Cryptic or Atari needing fast cash. And it's dying off already, like poor MMOs deserve to.

"Lifetime" was only 12 months in that game's term, wasn't it? NCSoft already sells 12 month blocks of time at a significant discount, doesn't it?
  15. Kheldians just aren't very good is the reason you don't see them. Unlocking them at 20 probably won't do much to get them played more. I do worry about SUCK kheldians running around as even having a level 50 didn't mean you'd know how to play an EAT well. Especially if you were an MA baby. I really don't care about what level they open at, they. VEATs, though, are major awesomesauce. It'd be hard to be a crummy veat, unless you were like...skipping Maneuvers. Don't do that. VEAT groups were wrecking machines because everybody was stacking leadership and realizing stacked up leadership is brokenly good back when they were new, heh.

I wonder if Praetoria will install Incarnates as a new epic AT to unlock to 50s. Dual Pistols/Willpower, yes? Yeeeeeeah!
  16. Same problem here. I copied everything over to cohtest instead of redownloading, but Fixing Files itself will take like 385778732 hours. I quit out hoping that I just had a terrible connection, but now I'm stuck on trying to get a connection. Training room's patcher must be getting SLAMMED.

I just want to log in and see if I'm in the beta, people say the beta invites don't always get emailed. GR/i17, WAAANT!

Yes, Statesman was/is a very persuasive talker. Unfortunately he'd tend to run his mouth about things his team couldn't live up to (or they couldn't do quickly--Babs *could* do powerset customization, it just took him a year+ or something working on it and it's still only partially done), which was when he began to stop communicating with the playerbase through the forums. I'm not so terribly sure how great a lead dev he is, but he knows how to drum up the investment for his projects.

One thing I hope to see they got done over break was getting the difficulty slider back in for TFs, just with the -1 Level removed. That's *all it would take*. Let us dial those enemies back on up if we want to, invincible ITF is good times!

I like the Shadow Shard. Back in Issue 1 (or 2?) when it was new it was BEAUTIFUL. Sadly the only people who could've really appreciated the grandeur of that zone had already quit CoH to go play WoW. The Shard was EQ's Plane of Sky as it was meant to be, and that was done before EQ2 released their Plane of Sky xpac. The problem was it was 4 tremendous zones with *no* *freaking* *missions* besides Kora Fruit tier3 insp farms or the copy and paste mission TFs that were made when Positron/Synapse's arduously long TFs were going to be the standard. There were supposed to be mole points to move around quick but they were hidden and unmarked on the map and there was actually only one...the jump thingies just plain don't work if you had any travel power turned on, or even swift and hurdle probably interfere with them--they should've just sent you flying on a predetermined jump path like WoW griffon routes...revamp them Faultline style and they'd be awesome.
  18. lol, summon little Diablo demons.

I wonder if Infernal's demon-bound armor will be updated to reflect Demon MM summons instead of just spitting out CoT behemoths he shoved in there.
  19. Wow. I took a 2 month break and this is still an issue? The easiest and most obvious fix would be to allow the TF difficulty slider as it was, and let people have their "free Master Of"'s. Its amazing that anyone cares about that. Go outside. Look at the bright yellow ball in the sky, we call that the sun. Do this while working on a less permissive alternative, one more palatable to developer scruples.

It just seems that allowing your customers to have fun in the game would be... well, a priority. And it obviously is a priority in other facets of the game, so what's so different about this?

I guess I know why I haven't seen any of my old TF buddies online in the few days I've been back. We ran speeds daily on the highest setting also, just because it was fun and occasionally comic. And when the mission slider went it, it got both funner and funnier. I guess it stopped being fun or funny doing it against +0's.
  20. It was just a cheap, crummy, poorly made SF that was built to exclude ATs. I remember Statesman offered people a free year of playtime if they could beat it (basically to find a sploit the Devs didn't see). Instead you got min-maxed groups metagaming and rolling over it abusing shivans/nukes/vengbait.

Nothing to see there. Do it for the badge for the accolade and ignore it, the merit reward is a slap in the face (what was it, 20 or something? rofl) and randoming for an HO sucks. At least let you PICK your shoe.
  21. I seem to remember Wincott and Flux would give me a pass if I was above level 10.

With how fast XP is nowadays, and how easy the Hollows has been made (you used to eat some debt getting around to horribly placed doors or doing the street patrols to slow you down some...) I imagine you can't do all the contacts by the time you outlevel The Hollows. It was hard enough to do all the contacts to unlock the zone trial when it was slower leveling speed.

The rock dudes are still some of the most brutal enemies I can think of. They're made of ROCK and they move that fast, and hit like a truck? They were even worse than Vahzilok! The original Slag Golems! At least you can -1 level them nowadays.
  22. If Ninja Run was such a pain for BABs to do the animations for I'm surprised he didn't try to sell the idea of a Ninja power pool to Posi/Castle to show it off more. Stick in something like Throw Shuriken/Entangling Arrow/Ninja Run/Smoke Flash. (craptacular powers!)
  23. Invuln might be worse redside than blue. It has that Psi hole in your damage resistance, and Arachnos has a lot of ladies that like to crawl around in your head. There are always +psi defense and +psi resist IOs, of course.

I think it's one of those old sets that's still solid, but it isn't quite what it was in the golden age of Invulns herding entire maps and laughing at at puny ineffective weapons plinking off them.

Unstop is one of those old timey crashes too. Was thinking of dropping it off my Katana/Invuln because I don't really use it much, and when you do you have to remember GET OUT OF DODGE before your green and your blue bars both go crashing down when it wears off. My SS/SR brute only has to worry about Rage crashes, he's all chillin' softcapped on defenses and never has to godmode.
  24. Iannis

    Healing Uniques

Yeah, something like a WP Tanker would probably get the most bang out of regen bonuses. Regen benefits from massive +recharge aiming to get DP and IH perma (is that possible? I haven't bothered playing a regenerator in ages...especially since WP is like Regen but better ) and get Recon up faster rather than just piling on a bit of piddly bonus regen.
  25. pretty sure it'd be the same as a confused dude coming and wacking it.
falling damage also counts against your xp, I noticed once when I saw something fall for like -1 and that particular enemy yielded less XP compared to his buddies.
