Leaving the hospital use to be very easy. All you had to do was click on the Medical Reclamator which you spawned in and you'd be sent directly to the bottom floor of the hospital! No need to walk to the elevators.
This bug was fixed some time before 02/24/05.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Speaking of hospitals, originally (more likely way back in pre-beta, but some time around then), hospitals had stairs instead of elevators!

And the lines and arrows directing you to the elevators from the reclimators, were not added until very recently (I6 on the dot?).

Did you know... the Untouchable Badge used to show an Italian Flag in the background rather than a brick wall.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And the Patriot badge used to be under the flag atop City Hall.

People complained about both, and they were summarily changed.
  3. [ QUOTE ]
Did you know that the sign on the building just north and east of the tram in Kings Row used to actually state "guns" instead of just having the picture? ((Which made my naming it on virtue make more sense, my poor gunshop ))

    [/ QUOTE ]

The gunshop sign, the hotel sign next to it, City Hall, and Freedom Corps signs all got tweaked and/or flattened into simple textures in I3, presumably to make translation and/or replacement simpler.

Oddly enough the Paragon PD sign still retains its 3D nature.

That reminds me, what's with "Terror Volta" showing up on the loading screen for the reactor?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because that's the name of the Trial.

Terror Volta, Transcendant Gateway, Descent to the Hydra, and I always forget the one for the Eden Trial. Faathim's TF has one for the last mission as well. Not sure about the other two SS TFs.

And *cough* yeah...I'm female. (*sidesteps the details*)
  5. [ QUOTE ]
Fortunately, those clones don't last very long.

    Fixed.
  6. Seeing as it's not I7 yet, no.

I'm pretty sure I saw Terra Volta's name stenciled in over the giant door, yesterday

    [/ QUOTE ]
    That is its real name.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's not what we're getting at. In I3 they changed the way Hazard and Trial zones are identified. Originally they had the name "stenciled in" in white paint all the way above the gate. Now most of them (excluding Dark Astoria and TV, apparently) have blue, yellow, and black signs on the sides of the gates, which (generally) show their original names.

For whatever reason, Baumton's sign says Boomtown. And Crey is apparently okay with Crey's Folly being identified as such.

Lusca and the Ghost ship were not in the game at release. They were added in (I think) issue 2.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They, along with the Paladin, were added in Issue 3.

But really, this discussion doesn’t belong here. This is (was) a nice thread where people reminisced and commented on things that were in the game long ago. BlazingImp posted a long, thoughtful, and well researched summary of past game PLing schemes. Several of them even I didn’t know about. I don’t know why you had to jump all over his [censored] for it. That was rude of you, and I think that you owe him an apology.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I didn't really care about his posting of old PLing schemes, as that was a secondary post after his first, in fact. I was responding entirely to that single broad statement in his original post, which I still refuse to believe could possibly be true.

However, I really don't care about the argument at this point, since it's obvious you won't be persuaded, and my points have been made one way or another. (I'll point out that the concept is entirely unknown, and as such, it all comes down to conjecture, regardless of which direction you go.)

The librarian bit is the idea that a librarian keeps his or her books in check, IE, they're not falling apart, they're not missing, they're in order, etc. I thought it was the clearest possible simile I could use. Otherwise I'd be a...maid of information? Eh. See what I mean?

Oh, and I am in fact a she.

    *ahem*

Did you know... The Talos -> Dark Astoria gate still retains the original signage?

The i5 nerfs were NOT “minor tweaks” by any stretch! And neither was ED (our happy “between issues” nerf gift). These nerfs continued and refined the devs’ desire to bring damage output and defenses for all characters closer together. While the devs have stated that their intent was to “balance” the game so that future content could be more easily designed, a great many felt (and still feel) that the nerfs were in fact because of the impending release of CoV and the PvP zones therein. Even if you accept that the “balancing” was really for “future content” like the devs said, a great deal of this “future content” to date has been PvP zones. Indeed – aside from a couple of base items and costume parts, what new content will heroes get in i7? A new lvl 50 PvP zone.

    [/ QUOTE ]

AFAIK, the Devs never claimed that ED was in response to balancing future content. It was in response to balancing the current content/gameplay, period.

And, since I was talking strictly about PVP, I personally don't see sweeping changes like GDR and ED as having anything to do with PVP directly. If it's applied to both, there must have been problems in at least PVE, PVP sometimes. PVE concerns can change PVE, but PVP concerns can't change PVE, evidently. Though my memory could be faulty.

As for where my bitter animosity comes from...hardened time on these very boards. I really don't react well to unfounded blanket statements like "Almost all nerfs after I2 were made because of PVP or PLing."

I'm like a librarian. I like keeping information in check. In this case, the idea of whether or not almost all of the nerfs since I2 have been due to PVP and PLing is either false or unknown. If I had the time or the energy, I would in fact poke through every patch note since I2, and see how the nerfs tally up. Though, as I originally posted, offhandedly, I think I would remember if there were an abundance of nerfs related to PVP or PLing. (Considering PVP has been around for half, if not less, of CoH's lifespan, I seriously doubt it's true.)

On the flipside, it's very well an unknown because the Devs have never outright stated their reasoning on every single change. For all you or I know, every single change or no change at all since I2 was made with PVP and PLing in mind.
  11. [ QUOTE ]

    [ QUOTE ]
This is significant because almost all nerfs since I2 are due to either PLing or to PvPing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just because you say so doesn't make it true.

    It's downright false.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm sure I made several, if not many, mistakes in my post. But please correct them rather than just refuting them without any support.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So I'm not allowed to say you're absolutely wrong because I didn't have anything supporting my argument, which was in response to your totally false comment that didn't have anything supporting it either? That's a heckuva double standard.

I can say confidently that changes directly related to powerleveling have made up at the very very most a whole 10% of changes made to the game. And a nice portion of those changes are actually fairly recent. Unless you're going to claim that things like the Burn changes and AoE caps are meant to be directly in response to PLing, instead of their intended target of herding, which isn't the same thing.

As for PVP, the only patch that featured a significant number of changes related to PVP was the Issue that introduced it. Issue 4. And all of those changes were restricted to PVP play. Everything else was minor tweaks, if not buffs.

But in the end, the best summary I can give as to why your statement is false: You're scapegoating. Let's blame PLing and PVP for all our nerfing woes. Obviously there's simply no possible way that something negatively changed was because of something other than those two hot button issues!
  12. [ QUOTE ]

-The loading screen for the Abandoned Sewer Network used to look like it had graffiti for the word "Abandoned." It was changed to a stenciled look sometime between I5 and I6 (and may have changed again since).

    [/ QUOTE ]

AFAIK, the Abandoned Sewer Network loading screen has always been a duplicate of the normal Sewer Network with the spray-painted "Abandoned" on top.

-Both the Arenas and Universities had construction sites at their present locations during the issue before they were finished being built. The workers would say funny stuff when you got near them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Did you know...

In Talos island, the foundation for the Arena was poured after a inter-issue patch, but the construction worker NPCs were not removed, resulting in word bubbles coming from underground? It was quite humorous.

I remember all the "Save Sally" threads. Was Sally changed from the test server to live? Seems like I read somewhere that she used to attack heroes and fight back.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Never fought back.

On test she would spawn once a day at first, and 1 single point of damage would do her in. So the Devs decided to feed her some bran to make her a tad more regular.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    ??

The only differences between Old Sally and New Sally are:

-Spawns at least once every 1 or 2 hours as opposed to 10 (or was it 20?) hours like other monsters.

    -Doesn't aggro other enemy mobs.

    -Doesn't swim on land anymore.

The Save Sally movement was in response to the fact that Sally appeared to be totally placid. Way before anyone was able to see her, we knew about the Believer badge and how it was for "spotting and proving the lake monster exists". We knew that Sally was even the Winthrop U's Salamanca Campus's mascot!

However, it turned out the only way to "spot" Sally was by smacking her up upside the head with an attack! This was seen as mean spirited.

Instead of coming up with a new solution (probably since I5 was already running late, IIRC), they had a Paragon Times article where Jackson Turner met with Skipper LeGrange, where they happened to encounter Sally, to which Skipper insisted "was corrupted by the Red Caps".
  15. Correction: The Minions of Ingeous were introduced with The Hollows in Issue 2.

Addition to the Paragon Dance Party entry: In between I3 and the new Pocket D's introduction, there were attempts to spruce up the old PDP with inspiration-vending bartenders, a feature that carried over to the new one.

Did you know that... originally there was a generic group for gangs just called "Thugs"? These can be still be seen sometimes in-game, being butchered by Vahzilok. They're easily identified by their ski-masks. They also used to/still show up on the Info Terminals as a villain group, even though you can't fight them.

In CoV Beta, there were a couple of scantily-clad npcs near Mercy (I think) called Tart and Vixen that would make 'suggestive offers' to passers-by.

The Rularuu first appeared when the Circle of Thorns got a big ol' mallet and brought them here.

... isn't that like Superboy-Prime punching the walls of reality?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, a lot of evidence points to Crey and/or Nemesis being responsible for the Rularuu invasion. The only events directly attributed to the Malleus Mundi are the Halloween invasion of 2004, and the opening of Croatoa in Salamanca.

    (SPOILERS)

In a late game arc, Dr. Quarterfield from Firebase Zulu sends you to investigate several Crey facilities operating within the Shadow Shard. You learn that Crey, using technology first created by Nemesis, has been able to travel to other dimensions (or, at least, just the Shadow Shard) undetected by Portal Corp. We know, already, that Nemesis has been able to contact other dimensions before, including Rikti Earth (being partially responsible for the invasion, himself). So, with that in mind, it's possible that either Nemesis or Crey had left the barrier between Earth and the Shadow Shard weak enough for the Rularuu to invade.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But I don't see why, though. AFAIK, portal tech, even illegal portal tech, does not have any official in-canon issues that would somehow weaken dimensional barriers.

However, the Malleus Mundi is specifically described as having the ability to tear dimensional walls asunder.

Really the only event source that has not been identified is the Winter '04 event. It's not clear whether or not that was another Malleus Mundi mishap (woo!) or a self-contained event or if it was influenced by another party (like the Gamester).

Williams Square named for Roger Williams who left Mass. to found Rhode Island.

Hutchinson Park is named for Anne Hutchinson who left Mass for religious freedom in Rhode Island.

The Gaspee was a British ship burned in Rhode Island during the revolutionary war.

The Blackstone Hills are named for the Blackstone River which flows into Providence (the capital ) Rhode Island.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Paragon City located in Rhode Island? This is something I heard/learned only recently after wondering for a long time.

    That is correct. In fact...

That Perez Park was named after George Perez, one of the comic industry's legendary artists.

Just a llittle "Did you know"

Blue shield was not an original trainer, he was added during Beta after many requests for somewhere to train while in Kings Row

Also Kings Row is the only CoH city zone with no stores.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm guessing Kings Row was left without a trainer for a while because...

Back in Beta, Galaxy City didn't exist!

That's right, back in Beta you went straight to Atlas after being forced to do the tutorial. Kings Row appropriately had retired police officer Michael Knight AKA Back Alley Brawler serving as the trainer of Kings Row.

Since Beta had become so crowded, there was a call for a second starting zone, thus Galaxy City was born, and Brawler moved there.

Since Galaxy didn't exist at the time, Kings Row connected to Perez Park! You can still see the spot where the old gate was. It's in the northeast part of High Park. You can't miss the lookout posts and the fenced in section.

    Badge Questions

Most badge requirements and slick ways to earn them are discovered by players. They are usually not confirmed by devs until it is so common knowledge that they are not giving the information away. So the best thing you can do for us is prove your point right or wrong. There is no cheat guide to give you the answer on this one. You will have to take the reins and figure it out yourself. Just remember to post your results on the forums so all of us can benefit from them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I spent 1.5 hours yesterday with my son doing LB mission's in Warburg, He was lk'ed to me the entire time. We did 13 seperate missions, I still have NO counter for a Mentoring badge. Something is not working right, a simple, You have to be recieving damage/giving damage/earning XP, or whatever, I am simply looking for an answer, no cheating.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I can understand the frustration of not having an exact way of making sure you are receiving full credit. From what I have seen, this is what the devs want. Active playing definitly does reward the badge, and you don't get the first one until I believe 8 hours, so if you have someone to play along with such as your son, just have fun, enjoy the game and you will get the badge quickly enough.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My guess would be that, because PVP zones level everyone up and down to the same level, no effective mentoring happens.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You can't mentor or exemplar anyone in Warburg (or any PVP zone) proper, but you can inside missions, because the missions don't auto-SK/EX.

Now, whether or not there's lingering code that causing the auto-SK/EX to linger in a way that takes credit away from the badge...

    Badge Questions

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
In response to Positron's post about the Baphomet badge, he said that we may have to beat him again. That is where I have a problem.

I hope the developers can either find a way to allow for those of us who have already taken him down get credit for it, or to make him available in a higher level mission (41-50). I wouldn't mind having to fight him again to get the badge if it wasn't so difficult to find someone who has that particular mission.

Baphomet (as most of you know) is in a 35+ mission, and timed at that. Unless there is another point at which we can fight him, that means we only have one shot which is now wasted if there's no way to retroactively award the badge.

Yes, we can join up with someone else who has the mission, but the problem there is the fact that it's a relatively high level mission. Unlike, say, the Spelunker mission, where you can talk a friend into starting up a new character and power levelling them to get to that mission, or that the sheer number of lower level characters makes the mission readily accessible, the availability on Baphomet is going to be much lower. If we have to beat him again to get the badge, then we'll have to wait for potentially hours, broadcasting requests for someone who has the mission to please let you in. And we can't participate in missions during that time, because we'll have to be in the main Nerva area in order to send out the broadcasts. That is a rather excessive effort considering that we have, in fact, done what was required for the badge.

I hope this doesn't come across as whining, because to be honest, I do love the game. It's just when I hit a snag like this that I tend to get irritated.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Doesn't Angus McQueen give a mission with Baphomet in it? I swear I read it on Red Tomax's website when I was trying to figure out how to space out my leveling to insure I got all arcs and badge missions from contacts level 40-45... which means if this is true Baphomet is already in a 41+ mission as you can't get Angus McQueen as a contact until you're over level 40 and completed a story arc from that level of contacts.

Oh and thought I'd be extra nice and double check info.. so here it is on a silver platter for ya :P Mission name "Stop the Rikti transdimensional expedition"

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's all fine and dandy, except that they're talking about CoV.
