Is there a Surrounding Mob difficulty setting for boss defeats? Because if so you have to set that to Single as well. I ran into a similar problem with an escort recently, and that was the issue.
-
No thank you. Ninja Run was a bit of an oddity, but out-and-out combat perks should not be tied to a booster pack.
I'd much rather they reduce Rest's recharge time or something similar. -
Quote:And Fly deserves this massive advantage over the other travel powers because...? And what about Super Jumpers who, with some creativity, can hit the zone ceiling as well?I you like to suggest that if you fly to maximum height, you encounter a menu option to transit to any zone (except the Shadow Shard and such). This would simulate flying over the walls at a fast high altitude speed to reach a desired zone.
Quote:Also I'd like to suggest that if you enter an expressway tunnel, you encounter a menu option to transit to any zone in that general direction. For example, you enter the tunnel from Boomtown that leads to Steel Canyon, but you know you want to get to the Hollows. Rather than crossing the entire Steel Canyon zone and the entire Atlas Park zone, you get a menu option letting you choose to arrive at any of these zones.
Quote:It really is a bit silly for super-powered heroes to take the train, isn't it? -
I might be far off the mark, but I'm pretty sure enemy weapons still operate under the old "weapon choice baked into the powers" system, which means that customizing them would be a lot of work.
That said, if they could put the effort in, I'd love to see it. -

Ah...that's what it is then. When you move the camera with the right mouse button held down, it makes the cursor invisible, but functionally, it's still there. So when you left click to move around or whatever, you're accidentally hitting the UI buttons.
Probably worth a PM to Pohsyb about it, I've noticed it doing this for a while. -
Quote:How do you go from "Boosters are niche-based" to "Ninjas representing the entire Natural origin"?I could mention that I'm well aware super boosters are only for niches and I don't MIND there being a Ninja booster, I just mind it representing the entire Natural origin, and the possibility of an extremely awesome Natural booster being eaten up by something I find freaking lame.

Somehow that managed to look sillier and more spastic than our silly, spastic dance emotes.
(Also, is there some rule for fantasy game design that says you MUST include a Michael Jackson dance emote? I seem to recall that Guild Wars and WoW also have 'em.) -
It's a Vahzilok Abomination and not a Lost. I take it to be a reference to the Freedom Phalanx novel, where Synapse's friend was effectively turned into one (just not in name) by one of the villains.

Quote:That I'm not entirely sure of, since I think it's disruptive about 1% of the time, and how disruptive it actually is heavily depends on what's at stake - Soul Drain isn't nearly as important as Dark Regen, after all.I'm not sure we actually disagree on how disruptive it can be, I think we disagree on whether the ragdoll mitigation makes up for it. But regardless, I'll agree to disagree if you want to end the discussion.
Quote:Yeah, I reread that and I think I misunderstood you. I guess I think the difference is that people have someone other than themselves to blame if it's caused by knockback.
Really, my point is that there are still edge cases out there where things done by other players, outside of knockback, can get you killed due to interfering with DR. -

Quote:It's only happened a few times, but I ask them to hold off on it. If they don't, then it depends on my mood and which character I'm on what I do next. So, out of curiosity, what do you do to deal with those mentioned AoE Immobs that have -KB?
It was a big problem when a Fire Controller spamming Fire Cages completely screwed up my Ice/Ice Tank's survivability, but then I was fighting purples on a team pushing the limits on double XP weekend, so I left.
Other times people simply learned by example that nullifying my Controller's Earthquake was bad for the team.
Quote:Sure, using powers improperly is using powers improperly. But some powers are considered "used impropely" in more situations than others.
Quote:I want to make it clear that I was talking about Energy Torrent, and not Nova. Yeah, nuking the spawn is something I've never heard a complaint about unless the Blaster was so much lower than the mobs that it didn't do any damage (which isn't an issue anymore with Super Sidekicking!). -
Quote:Because getting more inspirations is rarely an issue, especially at the level range we're talking about, where inspiration space is plentiful and Tier 2s regularly drop. I definitely understand where you're coming from, but it doesn't seem realistic to me that this Tanker or whatever couldn't ask for more greens or convert spares into them if necessary.I keep inspirations for dealing with tough encounters, myself, not for making up for teammates that cancel out my defensive powers. Sure, it happens, and I'll use them for that. But if you've had a tough mission, and the DA Tanker uses their last two heal insps because the Blaster negated their Dark Regen, and they don't have those heal insps for the next fight when there's one more Boss than they can otherwise handle, yeah, that's a significant negative effect. I don't see how it's laughable.
Quote:It's great that you have the attitude that you don't mind other people disrupting your powers. It's too bad that everyone doesn't feel that way, but I don't think they're being unreasonable, either.
Pretty much my bottom line with knockback is that using it improperly is no different than using any other kind of power improperly (like my aforementioned "Pulling with Fireball" bit). And getting unlucky with certain positional powers isn't so different either - if the Blaster nukes the mob before I can use Dark Regen, I'm still out of the heal, just less likely to die. *shrug*
If there's really something that bugs me, it's AoE immobilizes causing -KB. Means lots of trouble for all of my characters that take advantage of knockdown. -
Quote:I didn't say it was. Obviously healing is usually more preferable. But sometimes you have to make the most out of a bad situation.I disagree very strongly that the KB is close to being as beneficial as getting Dark Regen off.
Quote:First, KB doesn't cancel powers. When the enemies get back up, they're still going to attack, just 2 seconds later, and outside of the DA's toggle stun or debuff.
If anything, knocking them back actually increased mitigation (excluding the disrupted Dark Regen, anyway) since the DA auras don't affect higher ranked enemies.
Quote:Second, we have limited inspiration space. It will likely take 2 inspirations to restore the same amount of health as Dark Regen. So, not only have you rendered a power useless (something people don't like), you've made them use inspirations they otherwise wouldn't have used, and there's no guarantee that those exact inspirations will be replenished by the time they otherwise would have needed them.
Quote:Third, that's just one situation. You also have the other characters and their issues to worry about, and Soul Drain and Dark Consumption being in the same situation.
Quote:In my experience, if you use anything but AoE KB, everyone would be better off in most situations. Especially if you had KD instead of KB, because you'd still provide mitigation without disrupting their powers.
The strategy that has long served me well on teams with copious amounts of knockback is to save my PBAoEs until I'm absolutely sure nothing will get knocked back...such as when the enemies are already knocked back. But I guess I'm the kind of weirdo who's willing to let their fun be subjugated by those dastardly KBers. *shakes fist* -
Quote:If you knocked back all of their targets (and it would have to be 100% of them, since even a single target would give plenty of health), then I'm not seeing the issue. While they aren't potentially as safe as if they had gotten Dark Regen off, enemies on their butts means that the DA character gets some breathing room to either retreat or use some inspirations.Let's say you see the Scrapper/Brute/Tanker get into the low yellow or red on their health after jumping into a spawn, you think "I'll save you!" and use Energy Torrent (or a similar power) to knock the bad guys away from them. Now, the Scrapper/Tanker/Brute isn't an idiot-- they knew they were low in health, and triggered Dark Regen right at the time they needed it. But, you activated Energy Torrent a fraction of a second earlier and just KBed all their targets away, they waste the Dark Regen, and the mobs are out of Aura of Fear or Oppressive Gloom. You just made the situation more dangerous for that character.
-
Quote:And here I thought all I was getting at was that teamwork and communication are useful. How that spins out to "keep track of every variable and power cooldown imaginable" I'm not sure.Yes because I am constantly timing out how long it is until the brute's SD is back up. And yes all players play on the highest graphics levels and never miss out on another toons animations because no one is ever busy doing their own thing. We should all know exactly what power each teammate is about to activate and any other way is noobery.
This is how you should play the game and if you dont play that way you are wrong.
It's not that difficult to follow - if you notice that your Soul Drain keeps getting foiled by knockback every single mob, you'll grasp the pattern rather quickly. If the Brute politely asks you to hold off on the knockback until he gets his Soul Drain, you know to look out for that power. If you make a mistake...well, mistakes happen. -
Hmmm...I think a big problem is that we don't know what you already have available for Dual Pistols. Maybe you could give us some direction on that?
I have a personal interest in seeing something akin to these for the set. I have a few other random ideas, but I really don't know guns all that well, nor what would really open up character concepts. The set itself kinda already does that.
Can we at least have confirmation on whether or not all of the existing Dual Pistols options from Thugs will be available? Because I wouldn't mind some updated long-barreled and snubnose revolver designs. -
Quote:Do you honestly think that asking someone to play intelligently by waiting a whole extra second before using Soul Drain is somehow subjugating their fun? Maybe if their idea of fun is just constantly mashing random power icons until enemies die, I guess. But then, doesn't that ask another player to subjugate their fun (using Soul Drain) to another player (the KB player)? And doesn't that undercut the argument that KB isn't at least mildly deleterious to other players?
The DM character could also easily reverse the situation and ask the KBer to wait for them to use Soul Drain before AoEing. Either way, nobody's fun is spoiled, unless one of them gets a chip on their shoulder over having to wait one second, during which time they could use any other power at their disposal.
Honestly, implying that a failed Soul Drain impedes the player's enjoyment of the game means we're in serious trouble. After all, Soul Drain can miss, enemies can run out of its range of their own accord, you could be knocked back and waste it, you could be killed before it goes off...I'm amazed anybody plays Dark Melee at all considering how potentially disappointing it could be.
Either way, the KB argument is so passe. I think I'll make a thread to suggest that team leaders can turn off AoEs altogether. I'm tired of the Blaster pulling with Fireball. Maybe there could be an enhancement that turns AoEs into single target attacks?
(Remember folks! IanTheM1 brand snark is part of a carefully balanced forum breakfast!) -
Don't we still have the whole "below level something/gone for 90 days means your name is up for grabs" system? Or was that also canceled at some point?
-
Quote:I'm forced to question how often this even happens. While yes, I have had enemies knocked out of my own PBAoE effects in the past, that actually affecting the power's function is relatively uncommon due to how power activation works. It doesn't seem fair to say the DM loses out while the BS does not, since the BS now misses out on using Whirling Sword on the whole spawn while BU is active. It also seems odd to be sad the DM misses out on hitting with SD because a blaster pummeled a spawn with ET or EB (or both) (I guess if a defender did it, it might be less stellar).
Of course, I'd also probably take the far more pragmatic approach and wait to use Soul Drain because I knew the AoE knockback was coming. Especially since if the knockback is used even half-intelligently, the mobs might very well clump better. -
Quote:As far as I understood it, one subset of the skill system was "Invention" and it's pretty obvious what happened to that...On topic, I've always been a little sad that SSOCS never went through. For those who don't remember, the Super Secret Out of Combat System was introduced by Statesman as 'what your characters did while they're not saving the world'. This may sound like the Day Job system, which is what it became eventually, but the original SSOCS promised extra abilities tied to your 'job' - like a demolitions expert/bomb squad member could spot where bombs were located on the mission map. Thinking about it, it could really throw balance out of whack, but I've always thought that it would be fun.
Quote:The 'new' Epic ATs that never showed up disappointed me, too. Avilians, anyone? Incarnates? It seems silly that they basically announced them then never talked about them and finally, months later, said that they wouldn't work and kind of swept them under the rug. We still get glimpses here and there of Incarnates, especially in Cimerora if memory serves, but I'm doubtful if that wil lever really go anywhere. And that's a shame, since the Devs were building up a storyline there ever since City of Villains was released. Half of the Port Oakes content relates to the Blood of the Black Stream, and there's even a landmark tied to it (view Oil Spill from the air). But it's hardly moved since. -
Quote:Yes, because I'm sure they never once thought of scaling back the data-gophers that were slowing the servers down to a crawl. It got canned for a reason, and it's the last nail in the coffin of marketing letting them announce anything before it's mostly done ever again.I'm not going to let them off the hook on the Vault. From their explanations it sounded like scope creep. Fine. Cut the project back to a manageable level and get on it. It doesn't need to make coffee and balance the national budget. Just have a website which displays in-game stuff. That would be a fun and useful tool, and by trying to make it more useful and more cool they wound up with nothing.

The two things that have been stuck in my craw are the promised revamp of Angus McQueen's "Stop the second Rikti Invasion" arc and Castle's second look at Rage to finally rid it of the defense debuff.
-
It's just a theory.
Not to mention says nothing about whether or not that would stop Tyrant from decking our boy in blue.
(But yeah, I haven't done that arc in aaaaaages.)
