One of the new I17 recipes is for a temporary jetpack. Not exactly that useful compared to the Vendor, since it's a drop, but you might be able to get it for a bit cheaper.

It's something that I intend to do, but not right at the moment, unless I'm assured there are no risks to doing so.

This only appears with newer drivers + DirectX, so if it's a hardware problem that's awfully strange. But like you said, I don't really have any way of replacing this card.

I'm only getting this problem with DirectX games. City of Heroes uses OpenGL and runs fine with the newer drivers.

That was one of the things I checked, but the nvidia control panel doesn't have a geometry buffers setting, best I could tell.

As for the card itself malfunctioning, doubtful. Again, this only ever happens when I upgrade my drivers further than 175.19, and only with DirectX games. That leads me to believe it's purely a software issue.

The only two other possibilities that I can think of is my lack of SP3 (not likely), or the fact that my motherboard's BIOS is a bit outdated. But why that would only break DirectX and not my card in general, I'm not sure.

Are there known glitches that occur between nvidia drivers and DirectX updates?

I used to update my DirectX manually, but after buying a few newer games on Steam I got one or two automatic updates. Point is, I've had it pretty well updated one way or another, AFAIK.

I'd love to, but I have zero knowledge of these things, nor a case to actually put the parts in, due to a bit of case switchery going on in the household.

For me it's largely a moot point. I have a new computer waiting to be built that's much more powerful than what I'm running now.

Don't remember if it was in closed or open beta, but Castle denied any more enhancement slots for powers, IIRC.

That in particular is a problem with how the maps are processed, IIRC. They ran a fix for it for outside zones, but apparently never bothered with mission maps.
