Quote:Which is why a new base system has not been implemented while ALSO keeping the legacy system. The required man power to focus on bases is not there as it will not provide enough revenue...the same with pvp. Both the base building and pvp community are small communities; granted they are both vocal, but unfortunately there just is not enough of either group to make a financial impact to complete the work needed.Actually the main reason something isn't done with bases is because it's a 'legacy system'.
There is now nobody at the company that has the foggiest idea how it all fits together and because this was Cryptics first MMO they never bothered documenting things (like most MMO developers do) which means not only is there nobody there who knows how it works there's not even any hope of training someone new on how the thing works.
They would love to make sweeping changes but they have no idea how to do them and what the end result on the game would be. -
Quote:You do know there are other incarnate "TFs" right?Ever since Issue 19 came out, it brung out two new Incarnate TF's Apex and Tin Mage. But now as time go by it gets boring doing it over and over again. And Issue 23 is about to come out already. I came up with an idea to make my own Incarnate TF and SF with custimized mission maps and signature power Arch-Villains and Heroes. Also since Statesman is dead, I want to make a new character to replace him and introduce him into the NCsoft company. I would name him Overload, and yes he is Incarnate, but he can do more stuff than Statesman. He has the ability to absorbe other peoples powers for his signature power. And last, I also made a villain which his name is Negative Overload.

Apex and Tin Mage were introduced in Issue 19 as the first of the incarnate content. Since then a steady stream of incarnate trials (Larger teamed TFs) have been introduced.
Depending on your server you can find people standing around recruiting people for these trials. On Freedom server people start them in Pocket D. Some servers use RWZ as the meeting place to form these trials.
You can also go to the revamped Dark Astoria and join regular sized teams and complete incarnate missions to help you advance through the incarnate system. -
I have two accounts:
My main was Tier 9 when Freedom hit (sub started in May 2004). $1700 total spent on my main account (Approx...give or take $50)
My second account was started when the whole $0.99 Freedom thing happened (November 2011) and is tier 6. I have made multiple purchases of paragon points... a few $15.. $50... I mean hello tier 6 almost tier 7 after 5 months.
My main account has every toon I have ever had; even my very first toon: Fire/Storm controller. My main account gets all the great goodies and has a surplus of tokens.
My second accountnot so much
Do I feel cheated on my second account - yeah I do. I pay $30 a month to keep my old toons and play/make new ones. Any new toons I create on my home server are "less" in my opinion due to their rewards, but unfortunately I am maxed out on my main account. So my choices - delete toons I have had for 3-4-5-6-7-8 years... I don't think so, spend hundreds of more dollars, or deal with the inequality between my accounts.
So no I do not think the current system is fair as all my new toons are missing out on some great costumes because I love this game so much, but already have my slots filled up on my server. I think of all the time and money I have spent for CoX and then see people tell me to stop whining, wait, etc etc... my reply would get me mod smacked and probably banned from the boards.
I don't care if you have been here since beta - I have served my time without interruption for 8 years now...not ONE day of lapsed time. So I am being penalized for having TWO accounts because the tech somehow can't link them - even though its the same credit card, address, etc. Not everyone requesting this "feature" is some 1 year vet that you are afraid will have the goodies that you have slaved away for for 6-7 years.... maybe you should think of the other possibilities of WHY people are not tier 9 instead of assume it's someone who hasn't been here for that long.
So to the OP - I support your suggestion 100%. The vet reward system sucked before Freedom and the versatility and "freedom" of the paragon points system is basically just as bad. -
Quote:I'm pretty sure they understand pvp a lot more than you give them credit for. The changes to CoX pvp happened 3.5 years ago and the development team has seen significant changes since then. Frankly the reason nothing is done with pvp; just like bases, is because it is not financially feasible to devote time to something that has a proven record of not being financially profitable. There were NUMEROUS pvpers who had many issues with pre i13 pvp - so to say that reverting pvp to pre i13 would bring back ANY of those people is fallacious.Because the game developers don't understand how PVP works in a MMORPG.
They are more than welcome to prove me wrong
Pvp has never been a huge focus of this game and rightfully so as this is a PVE game that had some pvp thrown into it.
Here is a hint of how important pvp is to this game/development:
PVP was introduced on May 4, 2005 in Issue 4
PVP mechanics were changed on December 2, 2008 in Issue 13
Today is April 20, 2012.........we are getting ready to test Issue 23
You do the math....
The financial NEED to revamp pvp to appease SOME of the current pvp crowd is not there. It has been said in numerous threads the past few days -and part of the reason why pvp will not be a focus of the game developers - you have NO community. You have a few people on the forums who get riled up when the acronym pvp is uttered and that's it. There are not enough of "you" to make a distinct difference or persuasive argument to have pvp be a top concern in the future of this game. Paragon is a business; they are here to make money and devoting resources to pvp; especially now since the "community" is such a small fraction of the user base...is an extremely unwise business decision.
It is time to either adapt; after 3.5 years...or to not adapt and continue to watch the days pass by without any significant changes.
*Is the pvp system flawed in this game? Absolutely!
*Has pvp ever been flawless in this game? Absolutely NOT
*Do many pvpers still arena, do tournies, etc etc - I can say on Freedom yes.
*Does EVERY pvper want the changes from Issue 13 reverted back?? No
*Is there a consensus among the pvp community regarding HOW to fix pvp; aside from the "bring back Issue 12 pvp?" No
I am just trying to interject reality into this conversation. I'm not into the whole forum debate and screaming and telling people "strawman this" etc etc. Just stop... take a step back... and TRULY look at this from Paragon's perspective as a business. This is not rocket science, but it is reality.
On a personal note: Do I wish they would devote some time to pvp - I am ambivalent. It wouldn't bother me if they did, but if I was asked to make a list of the top 10 things I would like them to spend time and money on - pvp would not make that list. The main reason I am so turned off by pvp anymore is the behavior of a lot of pvpers in zone pvp. It only takes a few to ruin it for everyone and unfortunately unlike pve - I cannot ignore them. Sure I can ignore someone's WORDS but it is their actions which make the pvp experience for me unbearable anymore. I pvp'd for approximately 3.5 years in CoX. I have played stalkers, doms, defenders, scraps, and trollers in pvp. I pvp'd before and after Issue 13. I used to love to pvp. I even did quite a few base raids back in the day. Issue 13 did not deter me from pvp. I adapted to the mechanics and simply learned a different playstyle. What turned me off was the actions of a lot of the "hardcore" pvpers in the various zones. So while a few years ago I may have been a lil more supportive of the pvp "community" ...now I simply do not care.
Anyways... that is my thoughts on the subject. I am sure someone will come along and argue against every point I made. I am sure someone will try to make themselves look super important and intelligent and refute my personal beliefs. But you know what... you can't deny my beliefs. They are mine...from my experiences.
YMMV -

I too am loving Staff Fighting - same concept as you except I am a staff/nrg scrapper

Quote:Because certain members of the pvp community want the answer to be Issue 13 is why people don't pvp.... not... the community..the rewards. Issue 13 changes are the last reason I would personally say is why I no longer pvp. I adapted to the i13 changes - some people STILL after 3.5 years haven't. It's a lot easier to blame the game instead of the gamers. That's ridiculous. So now we're not only supposed to take the abuse, we're supposed to pretend it isn't happening? Pointing out bad behavior isn't the same as committing the bad behavior in the first place. It's not "trash talking" to complain about trash talking, or about other actual bad attitudes and behaviors. Especially not in a thread that asks for that kind of information; should we have just all responded to the OP with "sorry, we can't answer that question"?
"See this is why we got no peeps pvpin - you fu**ed it up!!!! Nub!" /e teabag -
Quote:Never said I was entitled to anything. The OP asked why I don't pvp - I answered. You can't join a conversation that is asking for people's personal opinions and reasons for doing/not doing something and just randomly say "you aren't entitled to anything" **which I took as you saying I was not entitled to an opinion**.You are not entitled to anything.
Cant multiquote since im on my not so smart phone.
I pvped from Issue 7-10 regularly then took a break from it until about issue 12. Then from 12-19 pvped on a semi regular basis. I much prefer arena over zone pvp where you can choose your opponents and not have to deal with the peanut gallery of bigoted testosterone laden juveniles whose sole purpose is griefing others in actions and words.
I still occasionally arena friends/people I know, but we do it on our pve toons more for fun and laughs than anything. -
I am in... Just need AVOIDS GREEN STUFF for MoKeyes
Will bring [I Burnt The Toast] 50+3 Fire/Time Corruptor -
While I do not need a feespec on any of my tons - the gesture is welcomed.
I for one can't wait to see what other things are planned -
Have played for 7 years and never ran across this "Goon Squad." Is it a SG that purposefully griefs events like Hami etc?
-
I find the writing in AE arcs generally to be...how to say politely...subpar.
I don't create AE arcs because I find the interface clunky and overall it's really just not my thing. -
Quote:Not so easy to ignore their actions. Sure the words can fall on deaf ears, but the actual pvp griefing isn't easy to ignore. You would think that since rewards are on a 5 minute timer once a person respawns/hosps and ventures out...the same people would leave them alone for oh..say..maybe 5 minutes? But no.. they like to team gank you and then "scream" obscenities. I gave up on pvp about a year or so ago when it became apparent the civility and maturity was never going to rebound to a decent level. So while many pvpers love to blame Castle/Issue 13 for the decline of pvp...they may also want to look at their "community" for being as pleasant as a venereal disease. Just saying....I don't think it's a reasonable expectation that everyone's going to have perfect behavior all the time. There's always going to be a few people that are heckling or what have you - there's friendly banter, then there's trash talk, and then you just *shrug* and move on. I don't take issue with trash talking because I don't need to. I just beat 'em in game, problem solved. You can't compare online competition to offline competition like that, since people aren't anonymous offline. I'm not saying anonymity makes it right, just that it makes it more likely to occur. I simply ignore it (and I'll admit it's even amusing sometimes), though I realize not everyone has the ability to do that. What everyone seems to forget, though, is that it's usually a very small minority of people who are actually engaging in said trash-talking and it's very easy to forget about a small minority.
-
Aside from some in-game items being added - I see no future for a massive base overhaul - like pvp - it is just not financially feasible.
-
So the answer is for people who don't like to be called names which would be censored here to just suck it up?
Geee wonder why the pvp community isn't seen as a welcoming one in general?
Instead of telling people to modify their chat tabs...get over it.. etc etc.. maybe the pvp community should hold itself accountable in an effort to recruit more players who... GASP.. may actually have fun in a pvp scenario?
Zwil was on Freedom about an hour ago saying he was in warburg and to come find him etc.... I was on a team of 8.. we were like "Yeah...rather not deal with all that" (Meaning the trash talking..which even when Zwill is present isn't too bad.)
If the community was a lil more hospitable... and the rewards were...worthwhile - I would get back into pvp, but I see neither happening any time soon. -
I am hopeful more weapons will be introduced soon
-
Why I don't pvp:
1. It has never been about skill. It has always been about uber builds and ganging up on one or two people (referencing zone pvp post issue 9)
2. The absolute adolescent trash talking is annoying after 5 minutes
3. In reference to above: the homophobic and racists remarks are disgusting and seen as funny and acceptable - I don't hang around racist or homophobes irl why would I do it in my leisure time?
4. The rewards - Hmm let's see - a minuscule chance at a worthless recipe drop - no thanks. Sure there are badges, but I honestly could care less about the pvp badges.
5. Stand and fight already - zone pvp is run run run run phase run run run run - boring.
Every now and then some friends and I get together and arena for fun - and it is fun because we don't treat it seriously or get angry and start trash talking each other.
I actually preferred pvp issue 7-9 with SOs when it actually took skill. And to those who whine that Issue 13 killed pvp - no the pvp community killed pvp. Back in the day pvp was about skill and people would actually gratz others when they were beaten - now it's all about slinging profanity and nothing more than a huge pissing contest.
If you want a sample of zone pvp - watch the Arena Chat channel for about an hour - the complete infantile "conversations" will show you the maturity level of the pvp community.
tldr;
the pvp community is rude and the lack of rewards make pvp not worthwhile. -
In the 7 years I have played - I think MAYBE total down time for when I could/wanted to play might be 18-24 hours. So uhhh yes... I would like my 50 cents please
To the OP - I disagree with you 100%. Some things cannot be controlled - we live in an imperfect world...and those who can adapt do much better than those who just stand around and complain about it's imperfections. -
Quote:Well since we have known for a very long time that staff melee was going to be a paid powerset...maybe those people should have shown a lil self control and saved their stipends? It means they haven't given people who pay subs a melee powerset as part of their sub in some time cause they know it's most popular and people will spend extra points if they already spend their stippend. You know instead of just giving people a token for a powerset of their choice when a free part of sub powerset is released.
Then again it is just so easy to blame the evil profit mongering company for forcing you to pay pay pay cuz they didn't/don't give you a way to do it otherwise through a free stipend. -
I have spent hundreds of hours editing my base... and would flip if they implemented a new system and just deleted legacy bases.
The current system is NOT unstable...so please stop saying "if it crashes due to it being unstable." The base system is actually very stable so long as anything added to it is done with extreme caution (hence why base changes are done in a beta test as well to look for conflicts with the legacy code).
Yes base designers want more more more, but we also realize that the system is flawed and will not allow more features, BUT with that said we also know that adding in game items to the editing tool is a safe thing to do, but that it just has not been done. Most base designers are content with the editor as we have used it for years, but we would just like more ITEMS to play with
The last changes made to bases were well received (horizontal and vertical control)...we take what little we can get...just seems like it is usually nothing instead of "a little." -
Freedom continues to do Hami raids every weekend...just saying.
-
I could not imagine having 48 toons total; especially on my main server. I guess the altitis bug is different for me:
I make a mids build
I play the toon some
I usually delete it hahaha
I have one main character I play and 2 other 50s that I play every now and then. I do plan on making and keeping a staff scrapper soon - it is the one set I wanted since I started this game 7 years ago. -
I actually think a Psi armor makes a lot of sense. Using the power of your mind to resist attacks. you could also throw in a psi damage aura in the set or something along those lines. I would personally love a psi/psi scrap.
