Quote:Not to negate your statement BUT... this enhancement does not get rid of ALL your KB it affects a maximum of one power. While I agree that KB can be extremely useful...having the choice on one power to make it KD can be just as useful....please refer to my TA/Arch defender for example. If I cannot use Explosive Blast because I cannot leverage the KB to keep the baddies in the various debuffs that is one less attack I am able to use AND keep the baddies debuffed. In this situation...for me at least.. KD is far superior to KB as I am mitigating incoming damage for a brief time with KD; while still guaranteeing that I do not decrease my debuff of the enemies due to KB.Actually, you're going to have to be very very specific here. Your original statement, and your last statement here, is that Knockbacks' advantages do not outweigh its disadvantages. I'm prepared to tackle that one. But if you're just going to fall back to "knockdown is better than knockback" which you just said is all you've ever said, then I should interpret your other statement in that context and assume you misspoke, and meant to say that knockback's advantages above and beyond knockdown do not outweigh its total disadvantages.
I'm not prepared to expend energy on that one. As I said, not dying is better than dying also. You can always find something better much of the time. Holds are better than immobilizes, for example. Critters that don't shoot back are far less of a threat than those that do. So first we can replace all the immobilizes with holds, and then eliminate the need to waste time with holds by just removing all the attacks from critters. There's no slippery slope here because there's no slope. Knockdown is better than knockback in the same way holds are better than immobilizes. Holds that always work are better than ones that don't in exactly the same way. Holds that always work are tantamount to critters that can't take actions. At no time does this slope upward or downward in any direction.
Now as to whether knockback's advantages outweigh its disadvantages exactly as stated, the reason I can think that is because if you put my energy blaster in a situation where knockback is essentially gone, such as when facing resistant enemies, if I don't significantly reduce my difficulty I die. Simple as that. And no amount of less scatter equals dead. If you converted all my KB to KD would my performance be better? It might. It would also improve if you doubled all my damage and I guarantee you I will have more fun with double damage and KB than with KD.
TL;DR: I can think its true because its true.
I think this whole argument over KD/KB is silly to say the least since these IOs only affect certain KB powers...and a maximum of one per toon..and wait for it... it is completely optional...so those who prefer their KB can keep it...and those who choose to go KD on one power...can do so as well -
Quote:I am not into steamrolling... I like to play and chat and have fun. to that effect I play a lot of debuff toons. A great example of how this IO will be use don one of my toons:This isn't a knock on anyone or their playstyles, but I just can't fully understand the common mindset/playstyle of pack 'em up tight and AoE and roll on... It's just so boring to me.
It's like putting ducks in a barrel and shooting them.
You can explain to me how the getting the ducks properly sorted into the barrel and kept in there is the fun and challenging part, but I'd still rather enjoy the fun and chaos of running around and blamming, freeming, blapping, smashing everything in this way, that way and/or any which way that sounds fun at the time!
I'm in no rush and I'm not in need of stockpiling anything as quickly and as high as can be.
I don't say this to say that my way is better than anybody else's (other than for my own playtime fun). I just say it to say it and maybe afford a little understanding to the demands for always making everything work within their perceived best way to play.
Thankfully, I don't think anyone here has displayed any stand of everyone needs to play my way... this IO does, obviously, bring the subject up for some people, but that doesn't mean it actually causes it.
This IO will likely come and go with as much impact as any and every other one has had on my playtime - not much at all.
Throw down Oil Slick... and then Explosive Arrow. Before I would have to skip using explosive arrow if it was gonna knock the baddies off my oil slick...or out of glue arrow..or disruption arrow..or poison arrow...or acid arrow... see where I am going with this? This IO will allow me to affect MORE debuff in that the baddies are incapacitated for a short time being knocked down and yet still stay in my other debuffs.
And for the record.. I have multiple toons that do KB, BUT I only plan on using this IO on this one toon. -
Quote:I wanna say like 30-40 mins into the episode when Carter is rescuing O'Neill out of the cryogenic chamber... lol.Around when in the episode? I heard some beeps, but they didn't sound similar...
And since when is SG-1 old school???
Well old school in that it is no longer running new episodes on tvI actually just discovered Stargate the series and am loving it... it is actually taking time away from my COH... eek.
-
Choices - which is what this IO does - Gives the player the CHOICE between KB or KD.
-
So I am sitting here watching Stargate SG-1 (OLD SCHOOL FTW!). Now I am a CoH addict and sometimes I think I hear sounds from in the game in the real world... BUT.... I definitely hear a VERY distinctive sound that is used in game....in a specific episode.
In Season 3 Episode 1 "Into the Fire (Part 2)" they are in a lab and this sound keeps repeating... that sounds exactly like something in game .... the launching of the Oro Portal... the beep beep beep beep at the beginning of the power.. I mean IDENTICAL.
If you have Netflix... check it out and tell me if I am crazy LOL!
Anyone noticed any other in game sounds like this in movies, tv shows, etc? -
Quote:KB CAN be great in the hands of those who choose and know how to use it correctly.Question to no one in particular:
If Knockback is so great, then why does it need to be defended? Why isn't this readily apparent?
This IO does not invalidate KB contrary to the slipper slopes that a few have claimed...what it does is allow players the CHOICE to change ONE power... that's it.. JUST ONE.
I love the hypocrisy of those who exclaim to let people play the way they want to play...and yet wish this IO was not released...it is after all a CHOICE of how to play that does not affect you....contrary to the ALLEGED arguments to the contrary.
If people refuse to team with you because of KB that is THEIR choice....
If people refuse to team with you because you have ONE IO... that is their choice.
Freedom is about choice....and I for one think this IO personifies this game and it's ability to adapt and give the numerous customers who have asked for such a thing...that freedom of choice.
tldr;
shut up and let people play the way they choose -
Quote:Awww but slippery slope arguments are funAh ok. Yeah I don't see that happening. It would be bad, Bad, SO BAD if the Devs changed all the powers to KD. It would cause some people to quit and many others to take a break from COH for a while like I did when AE hit.
Now having the choice of making all of your KB powers KD instead I can see but this leaves you at the mercy of other players. Many who would rather you not use your Kb powers at all...but this brings up several things to think about.
1. A Jerk is a Jerk. People will kick you without warning for SO many reasons your AT, Level, Play-style, If you're new to the game or to this mission, Your build, KB ect. If you try to discuss things with the leader and he continues to be a jerk move on.
2. A Decent Majority of the people who take their KB powers actually know what they are doing so they're not going to get kicked in the first place. On most occasions if the leader has an issue with an overzealous KBer on the team or whatnot he will bring it up or someone on the team will.
I repeat, the Devs will not change all KB powers to KD I think we all know that but it is healthy to discuss the worse case scenario even if it's unrealistic that the Devs would take that action.
I've heard Rumors that Synapse and Arbiter Hawk are going to Nerf Regen First though.
If people use logic surrounding this ONE IO.... then how can they scream DOOM!?!?!?!?
So.. how about that summer event...glances up at thread topic.... -
My original name that I wanted for my Fire/Time Corruptor was Burnt Reynolds ... but it was taken
Originally when I created my second account I was going to do a play on famous names ala Burnt Reynolds for my toons, but when that name fell through I changed my "concept" to what it is now: I "*******" toons.... I Burnt The Toast, I Drunk Dialed My Ex, I'm A Hot Mess, I Ride Stick....
CURSE YOU BURNT REYNOLDS! -

Quote:We get it you don't wanna pay anything... well then that is your choice. Devaluing subscriptions by allowing IO access for free is a stupid business decision. You have several choices: Play as a fremium and invest a little money and purchase an IO license... go VIP... or deal with it. There is no reason to make the entire game FREE... otherwise...within a few months there would be ... no game.you rarely see free/premium players in the game and all of them who i have met and even hearing from friends who know free/premium players say that that being free/premium player sucks, yes you can level up to 50 and join teams, but what good of a teammate are you when your crummy SOs are barely letting you defeat a small group of con-yellow NPCs? and dont get me started on actual free players who cant join supergroups or send private messeges, you simply can not enjoy this game without putting some cash into it. and therefore no reason to try and hype up F2P if you barely get any freedom.
Simply allowing free players or just premiums players the ability to use IOs wount hurt in any way, but only improve it for everyone. -
-
Quote:I agree pvp hurt this gameI was talking about the time after pvp/AE hit, which is kind of what I was talking about the whole time.
If you think the release of the exalted server hurt freedom, or any server, more than the pvp nerf, then I'm not really sure what to say.
It's gone back up in the past few years, but it's still not at the amount of regular teaming it used to have.
It's still the place to go if you need an incarnate trial or want to see people who still think walleaning is cool and who think ego bios make them good players, though.
Oh wait...that's not what you said.
Issue 13 was 3.5 years ago - many things have happened since to affect the population of each server. Freedom is still quite alive even outside of pvp season.
To the OP: Incarnate content is huge on Freedom. There are organized badge events; check the forums...as well as impromptu badge events for the itrials. I played on Virtue for a little bit, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.... -
I think my "problem" is that CoH was my first mmo and I compare every one I have tried to it and frankly none of them meet the same results of ease of use/fun for me.
-
Quote:Man you people find some awful teammates. I PUG 90% of the time and rarely run into 95% of the issues that people on the forums do. Did the kick option not work on the Halloween event??? I never needed to use it, but if someone were door sitting... I would have.I know the feeling TJ, I hated the Kane Halloween event with the "forced" 4 player teams. I can't count how many times I would get a "player" who would just doorsit on that event.
I would prefer that the devs refrain from this "forced" team event model and give us more choice. YMMV -
Quote:And since you are neither psychic nor have any factual basis for your claim............There's that word again "undesirable".
And yes, what I'm suggesting will take more time to get done, but it would be a lot better to get it right, rather than this attempt to sweep the problem under the rug. Plus, this IO has the potential to create several new problems on its own, as some of those "undesirable" powers could end up vastly more powerful then intended. So what do you do with outliers like that? Nerf the power or the IO? "Letting it be" is not an option as that makes this IO "required" for those powers, making a rather large disparity between the minimum and maximum potential of that power. Something we've seen over and over to be changed in this game.
Adding this IO to the game has the potential to become a lot more balancing work than just adding another IO. This is the kind of IO that gets powers nerfed. Or alternatively, gets made redundant by power buffs.
This IO will cause more problems than it solves.
I would suggest that you chill with your conspiracy theories and thread hijack and let it get back to it's original topic, but then all you would probably do is start an entirely new thread to spread your unwarranted doom....
We get it... you like KB but guess what.. A LOT of people don't. This IO will not affect your playstyle unless YOU let it. Morons exists in this game who will (supposedly) kick people for any reason....this will not make people more moronic. If people threaten to kick you or not team with you because you don't have this IO... it's their loss. Instead of claiming DOOM maybe you should set a positive example on the benefits of KB in game....because frankly from my experience very few people can actually do that. those who do use KB in an advantageous way I applaud...those who don't... I 1 star and never team with again....I love the rating/note system.
**FYI... 7 years and I have NEVER seen someone kicked for PROPERLY using KB. I have never seen someone not picked for a team because they do KB.** I have no clue what server these people play on.. or who they are teaming with....
--------------------------------------------
I am holding off on watching the videos of the summer event... I seen the screen caps from the Player Summit...and want to experience it first hand for the first time when I play it. I am glad that 1. it is 4 people and not a league and 2. that it scales up to level 50. I realize it is the summer event, but been trying to think when they will roll this out.. end of June??? Middle of July??? I want it now -
Here is my final mids build - consulted with a friend who does quite nice builds and this is what we came up with together.
You will notice that explosive blast is left empty albeit the positron +dam proc... this will make way for the new IO set being introduced with the summer event....which will give me another AOE but without the KB..instead KD which will do nicely with oil slick and RoA.
This focuses on my ranged defense since that is where I will gladly be staying most of time except to refill the occasional end after EMP arrow with power sink.
Gives me stealth built into CJ..at an early level so I can pair CJ + SS to effectively stealth if need be.
Allows me to hover and do my thang
And gives me my healing arrow hehehe
I decided to take fly and afterburner for my last two powers basically because I did not NEED any more powers and afterburner lets me slot another lotg +rech.
Currently at level 28 and loving this toon

Quote:I just logged off and Freedom AP 1 and 2 were full...3 was hopping....so I jumped to PD... hopping with a BAF starting..a TPN..and a Keyes...I was playing on the Freedom server that had about 100 people on during prime hours, if that helps any.
Uhmmm pretty sure that's more than 100 LOL! -
Quote:Yeah I tried their superhero game....I stopped playing after 2 hours.I'll agree with this statement. I believe Cryptic is very embarrassed that this 8 year old game they created which they couldn't wait to sell off with it's 8 year old content has blown their NEWER Super Hero game with all it's bells and whistles right out of the water.
-
Quote:No there doesn't. You are already given the entire game except SSA and Incarnates for free. NOTHING requires IOs. If you truly think the Freebie/Premium status is bad I would suggest you go try the same on the other superhero mmos... not only are they boring, but they also limit you morei agree also about freedom not really being free, if the devs. could at least allow IOs to be used by everyone or at least premiums then that would really make it work, i tried going premium for a while but in less then a week i hated it, only able to use 2 characters and all my IOs were grey out, it was a terrible experiance and there needs to be more freedom for freedom/premium players
Still amazed how people want more more more..for nothing. The ONE thing I hate about the Freedom model is the incessant whining of people who don't pay anything yet expect almost everything. -
Quote:Uhmm running DFB once gets you to 7/8 which is fast and easy. DFB also gives you a lil boost in the form of a temp power which makes KR, Hollows, and Perez imo much more enjoyable. No one said do DFB to 20...those were your wordsAnd running DFB umpteen times to get to 20 doesn't get old? Or freaking 50 as I've heard some folks do? (The latter just boggles my mind, but I digress.)
Even with Inherent Fitness, there are still a lot of players who think the game doesn't start till at LEAST 20, and they want there as fast as possible.
Praetoria has all sorts of starting variety. I think it's a fantastic introduction storyline. But it was built for solo play. You can run one of the four full arcs solo on base difficulty with minimal to no street sweeping and make it to 20. But after Freedom and DFB hit, the bulk of the playerbase pretty much proved that's not what they want. Granted the arc for Twinshot leaves a lot to be desired (but I'm one of the 8 players who actually likes Flambeaux, so I don't mind it as much) and the Graves arc was written for a -very- specific character type and is downright infuriating at points up until, imho, the end. (And I actually prefer starting as a Crusader or Loyalist for a villain to running Graves.)
But why bother with Twinshot or Graves when you can grind DFB past both of them in a fraction of the time?
Notice how Memphis Bill said "starting content" to which I took as AP; which is level 5/6...not quite 20 -
Quote:Stop using logic! Let him flip out already geesYou should sell tickets for this slippery slope of yours. Seriously.
What, exactly, is wrong with creating a method for making previously undesirable powers wanted again? Doing what you suggest would require way more balancing than adding a simple IO, and consequently would have a greater chance of getting screwed up in the process. -
Quote:For reals?I really wasn't too sure about all the bureaucracy involved with Freedom and the strangeness of having to buy bits and pieces of a game one step at a time instead of getting a whole, complete, enjoyable game for the comfortable price of $15 a month.
I popped in, happy to see all of my characters intact and playable, and spent some time goofing around in the city like I always used to. Been a big fan of City of Heroes since i2, only really dropped out around Going Rogue.
Then I realized that my characters seemed a bit weaker than usual.
Then I realized I need to spend a few bucks to even utilize all the invention enhancements I had equipped.
Poking through the store I found more and more to dislike about it.
I respect the decision to go free to pay if subscription numbers weren't keeping the development house afloat, because I REALLY respect the developers of this incredible game.
I kinda miss the old model though. All this store nonsense seems a bit overdone. Like, perhaps there could be more items that are just available to free accounts, so it doesn't feel so restricted.
Successful free to play games make you feel like you're having a LOT of fun for free, so much so that you'd love to pay for even more fun.
I just feel restricted and shortchanged.
Oh well. I wish the CoH team all the luck in the world, wish I could return to the CoH before freedom, and am leaving a small note here that maybe imo the store could use some work.
Goodbye all! I hope you're still having fun out theretaxibotting and xostume contesting and task forcing and all the rest. Tell Rulaaru, Hamidon, and Recluse I said hi.
Yes I see how you are being short changed since you haven't spent a dime. Before Freedom if you wanted to come back on your old toons for free....you couldn't. I look at the Freemium model as basically up to Issue 8 (no IOs depending on your tier) or up to Issue 18...no Incarnate depending on your tier. To say you were shortchanged is just laughable since well...you didn't spend any change since you quit a few years ago -
Quote:Actually no I am not wrong in everything I have said...since I have spoken from my experience in the game...kind of facetious of you to claim I am wrong..based off MY experience. So you can be utterly wrong in everything you've said so far in this thread? Gotcha.
But I already do educate by the demonstration of proper KB use. I don't even need a wall, hover or hoping around to show that. But as I said before, that doesn't stop prissy whiny gits from getting their panties in a minor twist. This new enhancement just puts fuel on that fire. And how long is it going to take for someone to start suggesting more of these types of enhancements to make that other 'it's unique' argument eventually invalid?
Go ahead..come back screaming and stomping your feet... to which I would say "wow you had a bad experience...get over it." or "Wow that person was stupid.. I hope you showed them you were right." People who try to dictate other's playstyles without even seeing their playstyle...are quite obtuse to say the least. I have seen people use KB in awesome ways...which is great, but I also know people have been asking for/wished they could change their KB to KD in powers...and tada..again the devs have heard the requests of the many and supplied them with..an optional option. To you I say.. go KB the fu** out of stuff...and if people don't like it.. FU** EM! If you get kicked off a team or told to change your playstyle.. FU** EM! But to threaten that you are going to come back here and "raise hell" well that's just silly..especially over a game. If you don't like the people you are gaming with..find new people
I just find the DOOM and threats of this to be quite over the top...but that is one reason I come to the forums..it is another form of entertainment to me...because it seems no matter what people get their panties in a minor twist (to quote you) and freak out over the smallest things.... there is no DOOM here unless you make it. Nothing has/will change... you will always find stupid people who think their way of playing the game is the only way...and that's why I don't play with them.... of course I guess I should be coming on the forums and raising hell over them though
Remember....it is JUST a game
