The statement "nobody will ever come back after 3+ years" is ridiculous, whatever your personal opinion of the validity of individual forum posts.

I've already pointed out that former customers aren't the same thing as non-customers. Not sure why this is hard for some of y'all to understand.

The patent unreality of an opinion like "nobody who's ever been away three or more years will ever come back" does the "demonizing" for me.

My position, that some really old accounts will return to the game, is vastly more credible than its opposite.

    This whole thread is guesswork.

When guessing, I like to err on the side of not alienating potential customers. Especially when the supposed "benefit" would be completely invisible to current subscribers.

Some old accounts will come back.
Gamers being how they are, if their names get jacked they'll be pissed.
There goes that potential ongoing revenue stream.

You know who'll be all giddy that they got one of those freed up names?
NOBODY, because they'll never know it belonged to an old account.

    Yeah, that's terrific business acumen.
And as I have pointed out repeatedly NOT-CUSTOMERS are different than CUSTOMERS. Seriously.. it is a staple of the business community. There are three simplified tiers of customers:
    Customer
    Not-Customer
    Non-Customer

This thread is discussing not-customers... If you fail to understand the difference of the two that speaks volumes to your understanding of business. You do not hold not-customers equal to customers...plain and simple. You do not structure your policies around not-customers if the policies are in opposition to your customers. Customer retention; especially in an online service that is not new, and a niche product, is tantamount to business.

A not-customer is: Either a past customers who is no longer a customer or a potential customer who choose to do business with the competition.

We've had long absent returnees saying otherwise, demolishing your pretense of omniscience.

Fortunately you're not running this show or the current anniversary party would more likely be a wake.
Because you have no proof whatsoever that any of the returning players have been gone for 3+ years... Even taking one's word for it is not fact (people lie ...especially on the internet since there are no real world repercussions)...the only people who can factually state otherwise is billing.

And your definition of customer needs some refresher... what we are discussing is known in the business world as not-customers (which is different than non-customer and vastly different than.. customer).

Demonizing people's opinions does not validate your opinion...stating that this suggestion would result in the death of the game (your insinuation) ... if that was not your intention you may want to rephrase your derogatory comments in a more direct manner.

I get it you do not want this suggestion to see the light of day, but you have failed to show a compelling or factual reason why. Your supposition that Extinct Player will return and be upset over their name loss is a guess... Others have suggested multiple avenues in which Paragon could implement this feature...give not-customers a heads up, etc... and yet all you do is demonize people who are for this suggestion and hold out for this mysterious not-customer to return to the game..some time...maybe....

Mandating customer policy in the hopes of long gone not-customers is a failed approach that is not recommended by either the DMAIC or DMADV process of quality control and customer relationship management; none of which advocate usurping benefits of customers for not-customers. This is especially true in a virtual environment where a lack of mitigating factors of travel/time create a fluctuation of customer loyalties. When current customers no longer feel their needs are being met; especially in an online environment where a competitor offers comparable services; it is tantamount that a corporation focuses more so on retention of customers than those of not-customers.

These are basic customer relationship management standards that are Business 101...and the foundation of many successful customer relationship/retention models and theorem.

Put simply: Your current customer is worth way more than the customer who no longer exists (not-customer). Hoping and guessing they may return is fine and dandy, but to dictate business decisions based off these hopes and guesses is business idiocy.

Please don't get into trifle semantics... this thread is about INACTIVE accounts....people who have not logged into the game for 3+ years. Every account has the ABILITY to be active if the person would take an action (logging in)....which would then nullify their risk of losing a name.

Cuz spending/not spending money the core of your argument in this quote.
Except.. ya know.. A Freemium who is logging in...has an active account. Twisting the logic and viewpoint of the opposing person's to vilify them..is a low-ball tactic. No one who is for this has ever said in this thread that active Freemiums who have not spent any money should lose their names...if you wanna point out fallacies as your proof you may wanna stop using fallacious arguments in the process.

If there are people on the forums who were gone for 3+ years... maybe you should nudge them towards this thread to give some credence to your view point...I would love to see someone who left a company for 3+ years declare they had a right to something they abandoned
  9. You can craft any two tier 3 Alphas to make a tier 4. The recipe for the various sets to make a t4 is in the list....you just need to scroll down. the Tier 3's do not have to be from opposing sides of the Alpha tree. This is the same for all the incarnate tier 4s.

And thanks for your brilliant insight

Again... still no compelling reason to NOT implement a name purge except for this elusive customer who is going to maybe return years later and maybe be upset he lost his "uber" name and maybe not just play as premium and not invest 1 cent in this game - that's a lot of maybes and guessing. Since a name purge does not affect CUSTOMERS....I fail to see how this ya know...affects the people who are currently playing the game.

Treating "not customers" and "non customers" the same as customers... goes against the very nature of customer satisfaction in terms of marketing and customer retention. For this discussion we are referring to "not customers" (not-customers are either past customers who are no longer customers or potential customers who choose to do business with the competition). To go further we are even dividing the not-customer segment further because this proposal would only involve those who were past customers.

So an addendum to this "proposal" has already been suggested...contact all users by email...give a fair warning that on such and such date a name purge will occur...advise the not-customer that CoH is now under the Freedom model and they can login completely free to ensure their names are not in jeopardy.

I know what you will say... well I registered with an email address I no longer use etc... Well... hey... at least Paragon tried to warn you. If you CHOOSE to be a not-customer for years...and then choose not to login for free.... you have made your choice. Paragon shouldn't have to worry about every single Joe Schmoe who played this game years ago...and instead should worry about...customer retention.

Hoping someone comes back...does not pay the bills.

Dont hate Empathy, its the best buffing set imho.

I don't hate empathy, but imo and experience any defender can change the tide of battle...irregardless of heals; which is what this thread was about "healers" as per the OP's title. FYI I HATE that term being used in CoH as I feel it does nothing but belittle all defenders. My emp defenders were not healers/heal0rz...they were Defenders.

And to those who would say what about the people who really need the respec cause they managed to gimp their characters that badly (In itself something you almost need to be deliberately trying to do, in this game), I would point out that's still longer than most ambush timers by quite a lot, normal ones in other missions are more like 5-10 seconds between waves.
Here is hoping one day they do something like this. Luckily I do not need the respecs or this would drive me crazy having to do this (yay freespecs/vetspecs).

Edit: Let's see what are some other good topics where we get to see obtuseness and martyrs . . . Oh! Merging the servers, full power set/AT respecs, open world PvP, and level bumping.
Merging servers: I hope that never happens...
Super Respecs: Uhm No... Stupid Idea plain and simple.
Open World PvP: I would quit... (unless it was just one (new) server...so I didn't have to be bothered by it if I chose not to).
Level Bumping: I think the Incarnate system provides this in a way that works for this game.

The issue I have with these "requests" is they affect current players game play....where as an inactive name purge does not...as it only affects accounts which haven't been played (for this thread's purpose) for 3 years.

Like I said...numerous times... I am actually not FOR this as it does not have any affect on me...I just think the "logic" being used against this argument is weak and lacks any true consequences for the paying customer.

I do not use names like Megatronics or Burn Notice... my names are more short sentences than anything...like my forum name.

I used to use more "common" hero names years ago....but when I couldn't get the ones I wanted I switched to this format for my names. So no it does not bother me if they never run the name purge script again, but I have yet to see any compelling argument on why they shouldn't run it either.

I think the devs even know it is generally a bad idea to give big kb powers to pets as I know they changed the thug and necro MM pet kb attacks (handclap and torrent) to knockdown. Wish they'd do the same to phantasm, proc or no.
I always thought it was stupid Phantasm did KB and not KD...like you said - I like KB when I can control it...and the only way to control Phantasm's KB is to...well not use him LOL!

So they aren't going to do it, and they aren't going to tell us why.
See the conspiracy theorist in me takes that as they are looking into some new naming feature....which is why this is not being looked into. Hmmmm

The RP can get very annoying if you are not into RP

I found that on Virtue more people are into "hooking up", ERP, etc... I come to play not flirt/cyber.

I found regular leveling slower through missions etc...not sure if it's because the people i played with were into RP and talked a lot...or maybe it's because their powers were selected for RP purposes and not so much getting the job done hehehe.

Yep. But unlike you, I'm not treating "my" POV as the only one and playing "pie in the sky".

I have NEVER said a name purge would bring money to Paragon. I have said I thought it was a good thing. I have said it makes sense to pay attention to the desires of your paying customers. None of which needs PROOF. I do not need to PROVE any such financial conjecture that others have stated both ways. I think a name purge would neither provide any financial gains or losses....which is why I said what I said:

    2. This is an ever changing and expanding game and the space they use to store the names is inconsequential and has been paid for long ago so it now costs nothing for the company to store them.

    3. There is no danger of running out of names. The company doesn't go to Big Lots and buy packages of names for players to choose from and then has to buy more when those get used. The only limits to naming are our imaginations.

Now this ^ is a simple hard to refute argument, because so many of us are attached to our character names we can appreciate the argument.

Now I'm not going to scream an hollar if the devs run the script again. Neither I nor anyone else will notice a difference unless the devs publish a list of the names that get freed up and we watch the conflagration of ensuing nerdrage complaints on the forums. (Just look at the complaints people are making about the name "Freebie Fridays" being inaccurate because it starts 12am Friday British time and not 12am Friday in the time zone they live in as an example of how silly the people can get.)
The point of the friend was simple: He has no loyalty as a business to someone who no longer frequents his business. Customers take breaks...but at some point a smart business will realize "Hey I do not think they are coming back"...otherwise they are simply the "dumped Ex holding out hope that one day their Ex will come back to them...." Which btw is a running joke with me and a female friend. She broke up with her BF of 5 years and the first few weeks they broke up she would say "Do you think people who break up have a chance of getting back together?" So now when we talk on the phone I always try to slip in "Hey Crystal I have a question.... do you think people who break up will get back together?" (It's been 2 years...she has given up and moved on LOL!)

My point? There comes a time when you have to realize someone is not coming back...and appreciate those people that you do have...either in a personal or business relationship.
  25. I just did the 24-33 Terra Volta trial last week...it has probably been a few years since I have ran it (Thank you Vet Specs etc)...it was a PITA! Redside respec tf has it soooooo much easier. I literally almost fell asleep during the final reactor phase....
