Quote:This.. ANDThat statement pretty much sums up the whole conversation. PvP came some time after launch with the introduction of the arenas. It was fun sometimes, but because ATs were not balanced against each other, there were situations where Arcetype A would almost always beat Archetype B, but B would almost always beat C. "Rock-Paper-Scissors" gameplay at its finest, which discouraged a lot of folks.
Things could have been improved when City of Villains launched and we actually had faction vs faction in open-zone PvP. In the end, though it pretty much remained "Rock-Paper-Scissors" with the occasional Stalker gank thrown in for variety. Now, I will say that PvP in this game was fun during the CoV beta, where you had tons of people fighting all across the PvP zones. Sadly, the numbers just couldn't be sustained once CoV went live.
As for the "Issue 13" thing people refer to: It was actually intended to be the start of a long-term overhaul of PvP to make it far less reliant on the luck of which AT you have vs that of the person you're fighting. A major part of this overhaul was to implement a second form of power balance that only worked in PvP; it was either that or majorly change how the game was played for the vast majority who didn't engage in PvP. The problem was that the existing PvP community at the time was FAR from helpful. In fact, instead of helping to test things out and provide constructive feedback, most either trolled, actively raged, or just crossed their arms and demanded their old PvP back.
As a result, the dev team became far less willing to make PvP a high priority with regard to the devotion of time and resources. Combine that with the "Ultra Mode" graphics overhaul, Going Rogue, the conversion to the Freedom hybrid F2P model, and the departure of the former lead power designer who spearheaded the proposed long-term PvP overhaul, and you've got what PvP is in CoH today. It exists, and may occasionally get a bone thrown to it. But barring some miracle, it's likely not going to be revisited in any significant manner.
Issue 13 happened over 3 years ago. You will see players who have been here less than that time complain how they want Pre-Issue 13 pvp back, but what they fail to realize is that Pre-Issue 13 pvp had A LOT of problems.
With the ever dwindling pvp population I highly doubt anything significant will ever be changed in pvp. One of the main reasons... money. There just is no financial incentive to put hundreds of hours into a system that has such a small appeal to the overall community. CoH is not that 800lb Gorilla MMO and cannot afford to put time/effort/resources into something that will not produce a financial benefit...which is why pvp and bases are left to the wayside with the occasional bone thrown at them.
I do not fault the devs for this as they are here to keep working...and to make money...without which there would be no CoH at all. -
IT'S NOT FRIDAY YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I mean..
Oh this again?
My opinion??
NO -
When forum threads move into the territory of debating what words mean... I am out.
Forum pvp ...
And they said pvp was dead in CohThey obviously have not visited the forums...........

Quote:I seen a Mo attempt fail on the 3 AVs... which is neither here nor there lol.Im usually one to complain, but ive NEVER seen magi trial fail before Tyrant..... I mean the team would have to be sooo bad.
So all your really building for is the Tyrant fight.
Yes this was a bug, it wasnt intentional, but we do have to make the best of it till its fixed, and we all know what the record is on fixing player detrimental bugs.
Well they have already said what the issue is..how to correct the issue etc... so my guess is within 2 weeks this will be a non-issue. -
Citadel thinks to himself "I would rather be cleaning up cat poo than monkey poo!"
As Citadel continues to clean he inadvertently pushes a big red button.................... -

Quote:I am having a hard time thinking of a name...they all come across as quite obscene lol.Thank you for the videos! They got me excited enough about this set that I started trying to reserve a name.
My favorite choice, Wave Dancer, was already taken. I wonder if that player was thinking about doing a Quixotic Fusion tribute, too.
Thank you again to fellow players for taking the time to post videos and to the devs for finally making this set a reality.
Names I have thought of using and decided against:
I'm All Wet
I Will Get You Wet
I'm So Wet Right Now
My "problem" is all my toons are "I **do something**" or "I'm **something**" (See sig).
I'm sure it will come to me before Water Blast actually hits live hehe. -
Quote:If you view it as a pity slot that is your perception. I on the other hand can see the value in a petless mm for a whopping 5 mins of a trial. You do realize it is JUST the Tyrant fight right?? Just completed two Mags with MM on them... and yes their secondary powers were of great benefit.. one was a /dark and the other was a /ff.Why would you take someone who has their entire primary removed.
Would you take a blaster that has no ranged attacks?
MM's secondary is quite a bit weaker than a controller or a corruptor.
Im not trying to be mean but an MM now is more a liability than an asset, good play cant overcome this kind of disadvantage, im not saying it cant be overcome, but you are essentially pity slotting them.
And has been said MANY times in numerous threads....this is a known issue and a patch is in the works. This "bug" was not intentional to slight MM players...and I would think the MM players who are getting on MAGs should be thankful there are positive team leaders out there who do value them throughout the entire trial as it currently stands..bugs and all. -
Hmmm I guess I don't have this problem. I tend to pan my screen out some though which may be why I do not have this issue?
I actually like the Mag trial because of the open world feel which to me makes it less graphic intensive than most indoor maps even with a small team. -

Regarding bases. The base system is a legacy system and EVERY item added has the potential to bring it tumbling down. The devs are aware that we would like more options etc, but they have to tread very lightly. Zwill replied to me in another thread and basically said they know we want more...they are working on incorporating more, but due to the legacy system it is a very slow process. They have made some changes in the past few issues; allow more placement of items much easier as well as "created" the new hacked teleporters.
Trust me I feel your frustration as base editing is what I do to relax, but I would rather they err on the side of caution than cause my base to become completely unusable or able to be edited. -
Quote:Yer a glass half empty kinda person aren't ya?Petless mm's are weak buff/debuff and a insignificant source of damage.
If you are determined to carry them despite them being a liability, due to a sense of fair play thats your choice.
But dont try to paint over they are a liability on the trial as it is now with the bug.
Kudos for me I guess for being a "fair player." All ATs have a primary AND a secondary...just saying. -
I would love a cool down timer. I do a lot of trials and tfs and this is something I have wanted for a long time.
I have done the same tf accidentally within the cool down timer once or twice and "arggh" when it is completed...same with trials. -
I have no issues inviting MMs to my Mag trials. I also give instructions in the very beginning before we que that ALL pets will be dismissed for the Tyrant fight. Sure this takes away some from the MM, but as others have said...it is for the greater good.
Realistically it is only for a very small part of the trial that a MM/troller/dom cannot use their pets.
I expect to see this bug fixed within the next two weeks and all will be good in the land of heroes(well not all..but it will be more good LOL)

Quote:Uhmm no they don't. As others have said - you do not speak for the pvp "community." Making such broad statements does not further your stance...if anything it does the opposite.Wow you sound like fun.
Short note, PvPers hate all that content. We are just forced to run through it for PvP benefits.
And you are not forced to go through any pve content. Farm a toon to 50...spend loads of influence on IOs... pvp.
Plenty of pvpers pvp without incarnate powers or accolades.
To the OP - if you are simply looking for a pvp mmo....this game is probably not for you. Yes there is pvp in CoH, but it is not; nor has it ever been, a central focus of the game. This is not to say you couldn't join one of the many SGs that pvps a lot and enjoy this game for years. My adivce is to play for free...get to know some people... look into joining a solid SG that does pvp and go from there -
Me personally I would like to see it alternate... an issue devoted to powers...then an issue devoted to the next incarnate slot.
Issue 24: Powers
Issue 25: Omega
Issue 26: Powers
Etc
Of course throwing in new content for incarnates and non-incarnates in every issue as well. -
Quote:Which is precisely why I said:The other two have been working just fine for me ever since Dark Astoria happened.

Quote:They asked for feedback - not their fault players took/take that as a promise of something that is coming. Companies ask for feedback and even insert certain scenarios or possibilities to see if their users would like something...doesn't mean they are going to do it.Then they obviously didn't properly ask for player feedback. This was incredibly short-sighted on the development team's part and, if not Castle, someone else should have spoke up.
Incarnate slots != Level.
Level Shifts = Level.
I'd rather have a T3/T4 Lore slot unused with nothing in Judgement than the other way around. Same goes for Destiny/Interface. I'd rather have a T3/T4 in either Lore or Destiny than build anything in the hybrid slot, and that would apply if I was actually prevented from using the Lore or Destiny powers.
Level shifts mean more than the buffs/powers themselves. If the development team hasn't figured this out by now, I have to wonder what it would take to get the developers to see what is in front of them.
Going by what has been PRESENTED not PROPOSED...the incarnate system is not misleading. Remember when people assumed because Alpha gave a level shift that the others would as well....and then got all butthurt because they didn't? Nowhere have the devs stated that level shifts would occur outside of Alpha, but if you ask some players..it's always gonna be the next incarnate slot that gives another level. The boards are full of these assumptions...and you know what they say about assuming
Some people do not care for the incarnate content...the trials..etc... and a lot of people love them. Incarnate content is the only thing that keeps me paying my sub. I had grown bored with the game and actually took a small 2 month break before incarnates. I just found the "end game" quite boring. I do not suffer from altitis like most people.. I find and keep a few toons I like a lot. After 7 years I have .... 5 toons. .. A Corruptor, Scrapper, Brute, Dominator, and Controller. I have no plans on making any more toons until Water Blast comes out....in the meantime incarnate content and badges will keep me happily subbedBecause...I do not assume to know where the incarnate path is going...and have no false ideas that it is something different than what we were promised/presented with in official statements

Quote:Except ya know.. only one of those "levels" applies anywhere but incarnate content. The level shifts look more like "a level" to me than the short-duration AoE buffs and moderate-use procs do.
I am in the opposite boat... the new powers (not the level shift) are what make me feel stronger. On my main I have gained:
Alpha: Acc/End Redux/Heal big time
Judgment: A quite handy and quite powerful "nuke" that has no discernible drawbacks.
Lore: Two very helpful pets
Interface: A proc that works on all my attacks dealing more damage and decreasing their resistance..meaning more damage.
Destiny: Permanent stun protection on a Corruptor
Hybrid: Uhmm more damage
So yeah the POWERS make me feel more than 50 not the +1. -
Quote:Nah.. I have been running it the same way since last Thurs/Friday3/3 for today. This is just silly. He is SO much easier. Makes me wonder if they slipped a stealth nerf to his regen in with that patch.
It's just a lot of people go with 24...and that is what they are used to...which makes it so much more difficult (that and the plethora of pets). -
