LOL Thanks - my skills are mediocre...just don't mind helping people who need a little assistance. The person who taught me a lot is no longer around, but without their help I would still be struggling with stacking haha.

Weaving is actually very simple. Once you get the basic concept and "rules" (So yer not creating a flickerish monstrosity) then weaving is about your imagination

I do "teach" people how to base edit...I usually use skype as it's easier for me to be in an editor and them and go step by step on the "how tos."
  2. I had two choices for hobbies... crack cocaine or CoH... I think I chose wisely and won't regret it
  3. Meh...spammiest thread ever.

Not sure why the same forum rules do not apply to this threads as others....

Which is why I always tell them: Have your friend send me a tell. It confirms they wanna join and makes it a simple CLICK to invite them
  5. I have never ran Doc Q. Sadly I have yet to see it being advertised in any of my global channels. I would like to just run it for the badge and experience of saying I did it LOL!
  6. This is an example of bad spire work. You can't place them exactly right next to one another otherwise you get flicker which is annoying and imo shows a lack of creativity on the part of the designer. It's hard to see it in the pic..so I circled it...that's where the flicker is...you can of course cover this up with stones etc, but leaving it bare all flickering and stuff looks bad.

Weaves do not have to be a straight line...you can do them like this as well..which is what I do a lot of the time.

  7. OK so here are the basic instructions on how to weave:

See how I have the spires facing the same way... now fill that in with more spires and you get:

OK so that is a basic one directional weave.. now if you want to do something a lil more advanced:

Basically do the same thing only in the opposite direction and you get:

This is the beginning of a more advanced weave. Weaves can be as elaborate or as simple as you want them... See examples below:

Then once you reallly get used to that you can start using the Alt key to rotate things and also weave:

Spires are not the only things that can be weaved together... here I am weaving the arcane item: Stone Floor Cross

hope this helps you - if you have more questions please feel free to PM me here or in game

The first question is, do we still have a method for creating double wide doors? i know there used to be a trick to it, but i don't remember it/it might have been fixed.

Secondly, can someone make a guide for/point me to a guide for weaving of base items (particularly those magic ruin looking spires)?

Thirdly, and maybe most importantly, do we have any devs who even look at this forum anymore? I know that a long time ago, in the mists of a time long past, we wrote to ExLibris, got a legitimate stacking tool put into the game (i understand it's not perfect, but it's better than the old desk method) And i believe we had a forum dev or a dev in general assigned to us. I know from hearsay that the base code is a horrible pile of spaghetti code, with no comments, things that barely work tacked on over and over again, and I know that this isn't the most monumental thing on the Dev's to do list, but might they be able to give us a little of their time? maybe post once in a while?

Apart from some of the really really good mission designers, we are the only ones in the game who make anything passing for "Art" with our (read everyone but me) soaring architectural masterpieces. Would it be too much to ask for some bones to be thrown our way? (not in a literal sense please.)
I assume the Spire weaving is what you are talking about. I do a lot of that in my base. I will try and explain weaving to the best of my ability.

When you weave two spires together you want to do it with the curved part of the spires overlapping. If you do them back to back to back that way..with only one space you get a basic weave. Now to get a more complex weave you would do the same thing only have the spires facing the opposite direction...on top of the ones you already did... this makes a more complex weave.

I am going to log into CoH right now... and do some examples..and post the pics here... so much easier to SHOW you how to weave than explain... gimme a few minutes LOL!
  9. I wouldn't mind such a feature. Some people choose the ugliest colors for their buffs and I am running around with a pink block of ice, green/yellow/purple/red flames...bright yellow sonic shields...and neon pink bubbles...

When it gets to that point I totally feel like I am not even playing my character.
I am just some mixture of god awful colors running around shooting at things.
  10. kinda totally off topic but...

I see it mentioned a lot that War Witch has been a dev since the beginning, but wasn't she actually a admin assistant when she started? When did she become a dev?

I seem to remember her stating somewhere...she started as a secretary/admin assistant and worked her way up to dev...so that makes me wonder: When did she become a dev (like what issue).
  11. Entered the contest. Never entered one before so...we shall see

So, idea. Keep all that - but add a delay between the death and the rez. After a Super Stunner is defeated, float a "SUPER STUNNER PREPARES TO REVIVE" warning text to give everyone involved a few seconds {three? Five?} to get clear of the corpse. It would reward situational awareness and quick thinking, and would still discourage "attack attack attack" approaches with the massive debuffs they do right now.
    Who is "we"?
You said... we all know it. We all think it.
I don't think that at all. It's a game mechanic...and imo not a really bad one. I can think of other "mechanics" which seem more "cheap" to me.

I actually have no issues with their rez etc... if I do not make it away in time...I just pop a blue if need be.

Not to nitpick, but...since the cola comparison came up:

Both Pepsi and Coca-Cola have different recipes for various parts of the world....some variants available in certain countries and not others.

And while you can exactly copy my character's powers/costume... you still cannot exactly copy the name...on the same server So even if Pepsi/Coca-Cola somehow managed to make duplicate copies of ingredients...the name...still unique Because the name is what truly makes the product....kind of like in CoH...lots of Fire/SS Brutes; even some with the exact same powers/enhancements/accolades...but still one thing that makes them unique....their name

And FYI - I don't drink soda...I think it tastes nasty.

    To the OP....

No thanks... I prefer to keep my names the way they are
  15. And yet this topic has NOTHING to do with copyright law.

It was given as a simile...and not a statement of fact regarding CoH names.

The CURRENT system of character names does not allow for duplicates. The proposal in this thread is to allow for duplicates (sorta). What people ARE saying is that they own/rent/have reserved names...which they do.

As long as I have a character name you cannot take it away from me. You can't pay Paragon to take it away from me. You can't force me to give it up... so in essence the name is mine.
(so long as the name is not violating the ToS etc).

If you would like to prove me wrong.. I have told you - go ahead take my name... there is NO way you can. Sure you can try to get me banned, but that would require that I actually do something to get banned permanently...and then with the way the name scripting works... not 100% sure the name would be freed up in THAT case.

So no while I may not legally OWN the name.. it is not truly wrong for me to state that the name is mine..because unless I GIVE it away...you cannot have it.

THIS is where the simile to copyright came in...then you tried to go all Lexus Nexus and state blah blah copyright blah blah.

Instead of trying to use the web to back up your hubristic highfalutin misconstrued argument... try using common sense. Common sense: The name is mine and you cannot have it.

But then that's not the character in this game, and, again, has nothing to do with this conversation, I.E. the Naming system within this game. The person who has a name in this game first doesn't own it. There may be a case to saying they are renting it, but that still has no comparison to copyright.

    Man, you got me.
Except I do have a claim over my character's names.... Don't believe me?? I suggest you have a GM take my name away and give it to you then

Oh you can't? Why? Ahhh... ok then

It's hilarious because that's how the world works.

If you try to file a copyright that someone already filed, you won't get told "We'll just put Copyright@JohnSmith at the top so we know it's your version of something someone's already done."
He wasn't saying CoH names are copyrighted... he was giving an example of how copyright's don't work...and how the naming system does not/should not work

He was making an assimilation between copyright and how players feel/view about their character's names....not saying we (players) have a copyright on our character's names.

Actually his statement has a direct relationship to the conversation at hand....

It was actually YOUR statements that had nothing to do with the conversation except a feeble attempt at flaming someone.

In this particular instance actual game devs actually worked on a system very like the one you describe before chucking it as a bad job.

But by all means carry on bloviating over something that will never happen in an MMO setting because its very structure is inimical to how MMOs function- these are forums, after all, and where would they be without hollow posturing.
So what you are saying is when it comes to MMOs... we should just stay out of the conversation, because as players with less experience in MMOs we obviously have no clue about what works?

    Or were you saying:

We have no idea what players want because; even though we are players, your plethora of experience negates our desires and what we find fun?

    OR... were you saying:

You have been around so long that your conceited nature should just be tolerated because you have been that way a long time?

    Your post confused me

Oh and I have no desire for the SSOOC System.. just thought I would point out that when people use words like "never" it comes across as a bit stupid. Considering you cannot know what is to come in the MMO world... Irregardless of your experience...you may find it helpful to not treat other player's opinions as absolute trash simply because you have been around the gaming world for 3 decades.

Your condescension in this thread is appalling for someone who I actually thought presented themselves in a decent manner up until today. Then again what do I know... I have only been playing MMOs for 7 years...
  19. So I was sitting here reading the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly and almost spit my drink out when I read the following in their "Hit List" section:

    Quote:
Dog Whisperer to be cancelled after this season
Canines across the country lifted a hind leg, urinated on the TV remote, and stared at their owners while barking, "Decipher that!"
I then gave my chihuahua a glance as if to say "I wouldn't if I were you."

    So... read anything funny lately?
  20. I think this is why HEATS/VEATS were introduced...to kind of give an AT that was like a blast/armor or assault/armor set etc.

If full custom characters were allowed - within the scope of the powers already present in this game.... I could see some CRAZY GOD LIKE toons being created.

    Earth Control/Kinetics/Fire Blast/Nrg Aura/Fiery Aura - yes please
    Few Earth controls..mass stun/immob + FS/heal/siphon speed + fire blast + capped Defense to all + Burn/Flaming Aura

Just to give an example of a very overpowered "Squishy."

    so yeah /unsigned
  21. This would solve the lack of a defense based shield for Defenders/Corruptors in the APP. As it currently stands... Defenders and Corruptors are the only ATs which have no access to a DEF shield in the APP.

I would settle for the ice shields, but actually would prefer new APPs be introduced for all ATs.

There was a lengthy discussion regarding this about a month ago or so on the boards... I will try and look for the link later and post it here.

  23. Just completed a MoMAG (The Really Hard Way).

It's not that hard if you can get people to listen and follow simple directions.

Neuronia stated the best strategy in the post above...aside from that just make sure you have some debuffers/buffers/heals and yer good to go
