At least some of them are. I've gotten lucky with my OCZ setup.
But I know of several people who've gotten BADLY burned by them.
Assuming you're using an SSD with a casing.Quote:They're also much more durable than hard drives. One of the SSD manufacturers did a video of what it takes to destroy one. That had a guy 'pitch' it to someone else who hit it with a bat and it still worked fine. To actually make it fail, they needed to step up to a golf club. A full strength swing shattered the casing. -
Quote:Basically anything not tied to the Incarnate costume set itself can be used by anyone. Can the auras and emotes purchased from Incarnate Merit vendors be used on any character? Or are they limited to level 50s, like the Ascension costume parts?
Also, does anyone know if they remain available even if you drop down from VIP to Premium?
As to if they stay unlocked? I don't know. -

Quote:The pricing I've seen was $160? for a 120GB (or it was $140 for 160GB, I can't remember), with lower capacity ones costing more per GB.
My current rig has an external slide in connector on the chasis, hence the only reason I was even considering one if it was treated like plug and play when I wanted to use it.
I'll check out your links later on. The NAS boxes I were looking at didn't come with drives, and never quite fit the mold with what I wanted in terms copy and LAN speeds, and were upwards of $200 - 400. These were multi bay units, and wasn't sure if I wanted to go that route just yet anyway.
Like I said, the 2 gigger is working QUITE well for me thus far. Just had my old 320GB WD NetCenter **** the bed on me after 5 years. First WD product I've EVER had "die" on me.
One thing with the MyBook Live. Put it in an area with some decent ventilation. It gets a little warm. You'll see a lot of the reviews from people on Newegg talking about them dying fast. This is why. These devices aren't meant to be stacked in like books/dvds on a shelf.
In comparison to the old NetCenter. The MBL is faster. A LOT faster. With the NetCenter, there was always a short "hitch" as the drive spun up from wait-state. I just don't see that on the MBL. Additionally the MBL is gigabit (as is my entire internal network). So transfers are only slowed down by the hard drive inside.
And, on the "Ooh! Nifty!" front, it integrates well with my Blu-Ray player and can stream movies through to my TV. -
Quote:With the price-per-MB of SSDs still being rather...high, using one as a backup drive doesn't make a whole lot of sense. You're going to pay what? $150 for a 60GB SSD and an external enclosure?I'm wanting another backup option. With the current prices of harddrives, I'm not willing to go ahead with a NAS setup (yet) but will eventually when that supply/pricing comes back inline with what it should be.
So I've been looking at SSDs since the prices have gotten a little better (especially compared to hard drive prices) and their performance. However, having never used one, I'm curious to the idea of using them as a back up drive only. Are they treated like plug and play? Is their reliablility (disk integrity / life span) been proven yet for this application?
The NAS is something I want eventually, but the idea of a very fast and (I'm guessing) portable hard drive is compelling, especially if I'm able to store it off site as insurance.
Or am I way off?
You can get a 1TB MyBookLive (NAS) for that. Or for another $20, a 2TB version.
I just picked up a 2 gigger myself. -
Dangit!
Missed another one!
Got home from dinner, sat and the next thing I know it's 11PM!
I must have needed the sleep but JEEZE! I WANNA GET MY TANK ON! -
Quote:I can attest they're ALREADY doing this to people who've opted to receive e-mails from them.1 - Mass e-mails to all the COV/COH players telling them about updates and changes, even the inactive ones. The only e-mail that I ever get is when I purchase something. Maybe something in the e-mail may spark interest for someone to return to the game.
No.Quote:2- You need to shut down some "dead" servers.
NO.
HELL *BLEEP!* NO!
This is basically a "merge the servers" demand again.
It's been posted many times why merging the servers is undesirable.
If you want to move your toons off Pinnacle and go to Freedom or something, you get one free server transfer a month and can purchase more. Move them off yourself.
If they're going to take a little time to learn the game they'll learn which servers are busy, which aren't, and what times any servers do get busy. They'll also learn why server zones can seem empty when there's actually a lot of players on (instances).Quote:Think about the new players trying COV/COH for the first time and only seeing 2 or 3 players in a zone won't stay long.
If they're impatient, come on and see 3 people in a zone then scream "OMGEMPTYSERVERZFAIL!" into broadcast and leave, they're not someone I'd want to play with anyhow. -
Quote:Probably not. Actual "lag" is usually symptomatic of network connection issues. On your end, the opposite end, or possibly on any of the nodes between the two endpoints (if you're trying to have a conversation with someone a few feet away, some schmuck standing between you two, screaming, will make it harder).I have looked but am to lazy to search through the massive database. So anyway, if I add ram to my pc will it help the lag. I currently am running windows 7 64bit premium with 4G of ram I can expand to 16G. I will be heading to the store soon, so any advice would help.
What you can try to do to see if your network devices are screaming for a restart:
- Shut EVERYTHING on the network down. Cable/DSL modem, router, computers, network attached storage, network printers, wireless AP, etc.
- Start up the cable/DSL modem (gateway). Wait 3-5 minutes.
- Start up the router (if you have a separate one). Wait 3-5 minutes.
- If you're connecting wirelessly, start up your wireless AP (if it's separate from your gateway/router). Give it 3-5 minutes.
- Start up your computer.
- Test for lag.
If you're getting low framerates, that's not lag.
More memory MIGHT help if you're consuming all your system RAM and seeing low performance in-game.
If you're just noticing long zone-load times, bumping to faster disk drives (or SSDs) will help reduce your zone-loads. -

Quote:The game crashed on me & I received a message to the effect, "City of Heroes will now close, due to lack of memory."
I'm running a quad core 2.6mhz system, 6gigs ram, 3+gigs video ram with 680+ gigs of free space on my hard drive with Vista. I'm also using DirectX 11.
Over the past couple of months I've been noticing a drop in performance the longer I stay in after logging into CoX. When I first log in the game runs very smoothly but as time passes in each game session the frame refresh rate degrades rapidly & is very choppy, especially in outdoor zones with lots of players. I can temporarily cure this by logging out & restarting the game but it's a pain to have to do this every couple of hours.- You don't have 3+GB of VRAM. Sorry. Likely you have a gig or so with the drivers reserving 1-2GB of system memory for buffering.
- If you're playing CoH, you're NOT "using DirectX 11". CoH is OpenGL. So you're using the OpenGL API stack instead of the DX API stack.

Quote:Boo hoo hoo! You have trivialized someone's self-important pedantry! No, no, see, this is where the haters of the usage of "toon" are making a mistake.
It is not akin to text speech and abbreviations. It is actually slang, if not simply an appropriate word within the language.
Toon means an animated character... most likely started with Roger Rabbit.
It is not simply a shortening of cartoon... it is an intended designation of any animated (or however it may come-to-life) character.
You can dislike it all that you want, but everyone that uses it does not use it as a cheap and incorrect abbreviation of the correct word... it is the correct word that means exactly what they are intending it to mean.
You simply do not accept its usage.
What is funny (not really) about people in your position taking this slant on things is... You are the one using, and thus perpetuating, this limited and incorrect viewpoint now.
Who of us cares one iota what the general public thinks??
We think for ourselves and certainly don't perpetuate what we disagree with... so why would we go back to citing an incorrect viewpoint as the basis for correcting others that we disagree with?
Plenty of people disagree with this supposed general consensus that you are using to back your opinion... So, those of us who do not share the opinion that cartoons are for kiddies can go on and feel free of it. Full stop.
Silly discussion is silly!

For shame!

Quote:I use "toon" when I'm chatting with people who commonly use toon themselves. But normally I use "character" because I also find "toon" a bit derogatory.
Sorry, but no other creature in the omniverse can withstand the effects of multiple falls off skyscrapers, hitting the ground full force, and survive every time.
They GOTTA be toons.
Remember!
It's not the fall that kills you.
It's that level 1 Zombie at the bottom who slaps you for 1 HP just as you it the ground. -
Okay, picked up Fire and Ice.
Then went to my Ice tanker who was due for a costume refresh.
Brownian Cessation started out on Protector and got moved to Justice for Tanker Tuesdays (which happens to be on Justice, and tonight by the way!)
Here's his baseline costume. I have a metallic version and an Alpha version of more or less this costume.

I kept the same color scheme, and used Fire and Ice. Here's what I came up with on short notice.

Now I heartily DON'T recommend this costume/color combo to people who spend a lot of time zoomed in close while traveling. It just washes the screen out unless you zoom out a lot.
Even so, it's fairly cool. I found the foggy crystalline effect of the wings turned out QUITE schmexy. -
Basically use whatever floats your skirt up (regardless of your gender). As long as you're making yourself understood, our would-be overlords of grammatical usage can sit and spin.
-
Maybe you missed it "son", but this isn't about precision in language. It's about utility. And in this case, to some people the major difference between an MMO and something like Transformers: Beast Wars or Reboot is that THEY control the interaction of the characters on the screen.
This is close enough for "toon" to be easy and natural in usage.
