Quote:Could be the infamous memory leak ? More likely that than drivers, since the issue comes after a few trials, instead of all the time.
Yes no and maybe.
It's possible that the drivers (and the accompanying control software), when they see hard use, start leaking. -
Quote:I'm a tier 9 VIP who bought every box set over the years... and even I would have a tough time giving up VIP status...
VIP gets you access to a lot of content you'd otherwise have to pay to unlock as a premium.
Things I'd have to unlock if I gave up VIP?
Hero and Villain Epic Archetypes
First Ward content (plus any new free for VIP content they add in the future)
Time Manipulation, Dark Control, Dark Assault, Dark Affinity powersets (plus any new free for VIP sets they add in the future)
Signature Story Arcs (this is an ongoing series or story arcs added every month so this bit of content is constantly growing)
Giving up VIP also means I'd completely lose access to:
Incarnate content with no way of engaging in it unless I go back to being a VIP.
550 Paragon Points every month as part of being vip so I dont have to spend extra on points to get premium stuff.
1 reward token every month as part of being vip to spend on consumable tier 9 items
New tier 9 VIP only Paragon Reward options. (I currently have all of the existing ones unlocked but any new ones added I couldn't get unless I resubbed)
So all in all if someone at my reward level loses that much... someone much lower on the totem is going to lose alot more. VIP is the best bang for your buck IMO.
And roughly 180-190 automatically available character slots. -
I understand the game's supposed to be a time sink.
But essentially hijacking our computer for minutes at a time for cutscenes is one of the absolute crappiest ways to siphon time out of someone... -
But the media empire will keep going...and going...and going...

Quote:So what I guess I'm trying to ask here is, would I really be doing anyone a favor by hating this game? Because I can't really see any benefit of continuing to play a game I hate.
There's a difference between disliking PARTS of a game and disliking the game in its entirety.
And it's not a binary choice. For instance, I love most of the 1-50 game. The original shard-based incarnate stuff I was a little iffy on. And I'm coming to loathe the raid-based Incarnate portion.
Does this mean I'll stop playing?
HELL ****ING NO! I'm having fun in the game, even if some of the content isn't my particular cup of tea. And I'll continue to offer feedback (even if it is given in a tetchy manner) in the hopes of improving the game as a whole. -
Quote:Honestly, the first two slots give better results from EndMod IOs. The third slot is usually the best place to drop a +End proc.I have been slotting the performance shifter chance for +end in stamina but Mid's doesn't show its effect (that I can tell) so I'm not sure I'm using it it best.
compared to a lvl50 common IO, does it make more diff than the 1st one, 2nd one 3rd one?
i.e. would I be better slotting 2 lvl50 IOs in two slotted stamna, or one lvl50 IO plus the proc? -
HEY!
No girls allowed! OUT! OUT! -
Quote:Ooh! Girl Scout Thin Mints? And I think you get the box of cookies because that sounds exactly on the money. It makes for a proper rational behind those levels and now I understand that I will be perfectly content when I run it in the future.
Many thanks
Thought I'd escaped the irresistible pull when I joined the Army and went over to Korea.
Sure enough, I come out of the PX after payday with a wad in my wallet.
What do I see? Girl Scout cookies for sale.
There went my meager private's pay!
My uncle's youngest daughter was finally out of Girl Scouts this year and I thought I was good. Especially since I don't see them a lot.
Nope!
One of my other cousins' girl joined this year and is actually allowing people to sign up for them on a website! AUUUGH!
I'm doomed! Doomed I tell you!
But at least I'll have cookies... -

Quote:That was a Gawker site.If this whole situation has shown anything is that being 'anti-politics' doesn't solve anything, it makes things worse. If everyone had been apathetic towards these events, because "meh, politics" then this crap would have quietly passed.
If you look at twitter feeds and plenty of other places you can see loads of reactions from 'anti-politics' people who still don't have a clue as to what's going on.
"Pancake you Wikipedia! How am I supposed to write my paper now?"
They're about on par with the National Enquirer for reliability. They're attempting to be The Onion, without any real humor behind them. They post crap just for the INTARWBZ RAGEZZZ and all the subsequent clicks they (and by extension their ad network) gets because of it. -
Quote:You obviously don't have the sheer volume of screenshots and costumes I do...I don't know why some guides tell you to only copy the piggs folder.

Moreover, most of those old guides are for the old CoH Launcher (or are still being written with old advice in mind), where it was just more efficient to grab just the PIGGs. Plus, the old launcher used to, rather easily, barf on the checksum when moving from machine to machine, leading to a complete overwrite. -
Quote:I agree. On my desktop machine I'm running SSDs, so fragmentation isn't an issue. But on my laptop, the client runs like *** unless I:I learned from experience that after a patch the game's pigg files, etc. get really fragged and borked. So this is what I do every time: I update the game and let the patch download, then before I hit 'play now' I run Defraggler, then flush the dns file. (I made a shortcut for it but you can just open the 'run' prompt and enter ipconfig /flushdns.) Then I hit 'play now' and let the check/repair run its course. Since doing this, I haven't experienced any probs starting the launcher. I have an old putersaurus that still uses an agp card, and my game runs great. Hope this helps!
- Update
- Launch the game
- Run the check
- Shut down the game
- Defrag the individual files.

Happy birthday to you!

Quote:Tankers do not need Taunt. End of Story.
In nearly cases its better to take a power that helps you survive in the first place. You are only allowed 24 powers so why take Taunt when I can take Combat Jumping, Icicles, Permafrost, Fire Breath, Weave, Fault, Quicksand, Darkest Night, AOE Blast, Hasten instead.
I would never AND THE DARK AGE MEANS NEVER.. expect any AT to take a power that does nothing to increase their personal strength when each player is only allowed 24 powers. Only exceptions are a few certan buff ATs like an Empathy or something.
Guess what to Tankers who take Taunt... another Tanker/Brute took Weave or Hasten instead and is now more durable than you. Or Fire Breath/Fire Ball and now can hit more mobs than you. So you are a sucker..being selfless in a selfish world. So expecting Tankers to take Taunt is admission that you expect Tankers to be a FOOL or SUCKER. No strong player will buy into that bullcrap.
No good deed goes unpunished and this is certainly the case with selflessly taking Taunt since another Tanker/Brute took something else to increase their personal strength.. So dont you feel like a sucker lol
This debate is silly.

You know, EVENTUALLY you're going to die.
START PANICKING!
You know, that completely full tank of gas will eventually empty out.
TIME TO PULL OVER!
You know, somewhere, someone is WRONG ON THE INTERNET!
RRRRRRRAAAAAAGE!!!
In short, life is too damn short to go borrowing trouble.
Currently the game and Paragon have given us zero indication that they're going to be shuttering the service any time in the near future. Indeed, the game is ever-expanding.
Currently they're the 800 pound gorilla of the Superhero MMO market. Every other game in the genre is compared to CoH. A nearly 8 year old game. And in many categories CoH trounces even brand new stuff QUITE handily.
And with other MMOs like Evercrack coming up on Year 14, it shows that if a game can maintan a reasonable level of profitability, it can go on more or less indefinitely. -
Quote:The thing is, in a lot of cases it's not actually artists, authors, etc that are pushing SOPA.Amen.
My only question is:
Who is supporting SOPA outside of the media? How are these guys still pushing without jack squat for support?
It's "Industry Groups" that are doing it. Essentially middle-men. Ostensibly for the protection of said artists, authors and other content producers. But mostly to justify their own existence. -
Quote:Ok, if I'm reading you correctly - you're voluntarily blocking our access to the site because of this political fiasco? One that's not even remotely likely of passing?
Congressmen look at you tube, FB and other sites just like the rest of us. They'd be more likely to vote themselves a pay cut than let that piece of legislation pass.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.
And how many people comprise both houses?
Maybe you still have a rosy outlook for the thieves, scoundrels and assorted scumbags running this country, but many don't. -

What? No! I know NOTHING about pool. But I'd be happy to learn!

Quote:Hello,
been rolling a few new alts lately and so in turn running the University tutorial.
It seems that every time I do so and get to the stage where you select which IO to craft I am just in the wrong level for the optimum choice, arghhh.
The level choices for each of the three types of IO are 10 and 15 and then 25!
With the new sewers and Atlas arcs I seem to level a bit quicker.
Does anybody know why the levels are not 10 and 15 and 20?
That last 10 level jump seems a bit odd to me and 25 a bit high to be of any use as we are all on SO's by then.
This does not stop the sun rising or the world spinning, but I am just curious about the uneven spacing. Silly little thing but it bugs me each time I get to that point.
Thanks
Edit to add: Maybe a way to remove the automatic contact would let me skip it altogether. That would be nice after dozens of runs.
This is just my wild *** guess, but here goes.
Level 10: A TO that doesn't decay
Level 15: An DO that doesn't decay
Level 25: An SO that doesn't decay -
*WHAMMO!*
