Quote:This makes it sound like you've got a regular source of 2.4Ghz interference in your area. It could be the phones just being noisy (and trying to stay synced to the base unit). If they're really that close to the router move them as far away as you can (and still have them conveniently available).Hi Arcana,
I tried this and it actually helped a bit. I changed from Channel 6 (2.437 GHz) to 1 (2.412 GHz) and the time before I lag increased. I'm able to play for about 10 mins before getting a block of lag spikes, instead of 5 mins. I'm going to try other channels and see if they have any effect, later today.
I DO have two cordless phones close to the router. I'll see about moving either these, or the router. Do you know how far apart they should be before they don't affect each other? Right now, they're on two shelves in the living room. I have inmounted bookcases with the router on the bottom shelf (at about waist-height) and the two phones (I have two lines - one for work and one for home) on the shelf directly above it. They're about a foot apart. -

Quote:Computer? Meh. Alienware's overpriced.I also run Window 7 X64 using an Alienware with 12 gigs DDR3 RAM. Even though I have fiber optic download at T5 speed, I still need to run Clean disk and defrag at least twice before I start playing COH. It also helps to run a consistency check before you begin the log in process. This is especially important if you have just left FB. Zinge drops more temp files on your computer than any other website, my professional IT opinion. Also, if you are using a G wireless and an N receiver or the opposite connection, please realize all bandwidth will be established by slowest access point/receiver and therefore be limited to the G speed. The first thing I would do would be to change both to N. Cisco bought Linksys several years ago and they both maintain high quality routers/switches and offer great tech support. Another and cheapet solution may be to purchase a Dumb Hub, hook the main feed into the hub, and run a CAT5E from an available RJ45 port directly to your computer. The distance is limited to 50 feet with CAT5E. You can purchase the more expensive CAT6 cable and reach 75 - 100 feet. Granted you'll have CAT5 cable running out the window or down the hall but it wioll be the fastest available. Good luck

T5?: You mean DS5? 400MBit/sec? I hate you.
Maximum Run Length for Cat5E and CAT6. They're identical. Roughly 90 meters (295 feet). The only reason you'd be limited to 50 feet is because that's the maximum your local shops sell for a pre-made run. After that, it's usually cheaper to buy a 1000' box of cable, a crimper, and the plugs and make your own.
As for defragging.
You don't need to defrag your WHOLE drive.
Tools like PerfectDisk allow you to defrag individual files. So you can just defrag files in the CoH directory (mainly the PIGGS folder) and you're golden.
Moreover, if you're running an SSD, you don't need to defrag.
Your advice on running wired rather than wireless being a better option (if you're not dragging cable through the house between gateway and computer) is fairly sound. If you have CAT5/CAT6 laying on the floor or draped out a window I don't recommend it.
Laying on the floor it's GOING to get trod upon. And they don't make cable guards (the black floor "bumps") that long usually.
Also, with longer runs you have to worry about interference, as a long enough run will act like an antenna. Especially on shoddy quality cables.
But, if the computer's in the same room as the gateway, I HEARTILY recommend going wired rather than wireless.
With wireless, between 1/3 and 1/2 of the rated bandwidth is actually consumed by network overhead. -
That's the nice thing about the game.
You can pick it up again from where you left off when you come back.
You don't ever truly "leave" the game anymore.
Still, I can understand you needing to rearrange your priorities. Once you're straightened out, come on back and say "Hi." -

Heh!
Way the hell back when, my word processor had a built-in file browser. I started running out of space on my "whopping big" 10MB hard drive. So I'm going through the browser and killing stuff I don't immediately recognize.
Whoops. Was in the root of C:\ -
Quote:To fight inflation. In this game there isn't a fixed amount of Inf. It's essentially a money printer on auto. And as time goes by, with more and more players, and as they level up, the money printer prints more and faster.Sorry, I only peruse this forum occasionally -- why are you trying to burn as much inf as possible?
So we have a situation where recipes that were going for 80-200 million in i12 are now going for 300-900 million Inf (and climbing).
The market destroys Inf. But very poorly.
While hero merit random rolls aren't NECESSARILY a true Inf destroyer, their random nature allows them to be. The best Inf destroyers are the various vendors and the Inf-to-Prestige conversion. -
Quote:Because you should be doing it as a RAID instead! This is one of those arcs that really brings teams together and I honestly don't see the reason for this upcoming change.
Completely against this train of thought. If you're on a team and get help to complete the arc, this badge should continue to be awarded to all. This is a team sport and you're removing the incentive , I honestly don't see the reasoning.

Quote:It also lets the martial artist shoot lightning from his hands and summon the spirits of defeated enemies. A purely 'natural' human is never going to do that. Your idea that the Well is simply some sort of underlying law of the universe is flat out contradicted by in-game text that invariably describes the well and incarnation in terms that can only be described as magical.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

All right!
Hell of a turnout this week!
First we started with an old fashioned Three Paladins Beatdown. Mowed them down and laughed over their carcasses.
We got an ITF team going, they finished in 45 minutes (Tanks? Slow? PFFT!)
We got a Citadel going. Unsure how they fared, probably finishing up when I signed off.
And we had a missions team that started with 5 and swelled to 8. A very VERY good team. A few deaths when we got separated but we just romped through everything that was thrown at us.
I wanna thank everyone who showed tonight. Great representation guys!
I'll be letting you all know the next time TT rolls around to our house.
Hopefully I'll see some of you TT new guys on Pinnacle next week.

Sociopathic behavior isn't solely determined by other behaviors (such as avoidance). It is also determined by how you interact with others when you actually DO interact.

Sorry but there's no "sudden" about it. All teenagers are sociopaths. PERIOD. It's part hormones, part cultural indoctrination, and probably part genetic (as in a "feature" of the species h. sapiens).

Quote:The only ones who really have access to that information are NCSoft and Paragon. All you're going to get here is a bunch of us forum loudmouths stating preference.Just to air on the side of caution:
This is not a ''Dev convention'' set-up, it's a respondent to the idea spawned off the Dev's Summit. I was wondering, if the players had a choice, what area would be the best place to have a convention. To get a semi-good idea of where the highest population of CoH Players are. -
Quote:If I could change one thing, though, it would be the costume codes they give away. It's simply not fair to give away in-game perks to people for being in a certain geographical location, because for most practical purposes, it's simply impossible for some people to make the trip. Physical swag I don't mind so much. T-shirts, posters, etc. work really well for this kind of purpose. Or maybe codes to get some Paragon Market swag (e.g. cards that can be redeemed for a few hundred Paragon Points?) But in my humble opinion, unique in-game swag shouldn't be something that costs person A $40 and a quarter tank of gas, but person B $thousands in airfare, hotel costs, transportation, etc.
So unless something changes and they start rolling in dough, I'd just as soon we have a big shindig each year in Mountain View/Palo Alto.
I can understand things like costume codes.
I can also understand things like they don't want to have to warehouse T-Shirts of every known size and variety. But I still think that Paragon (or NCSoft) needs to enable people to buy some of the physical swag.
They're already selling mono-color T-Shirts at the NCSoft store. Is NCSoft's web portal REALLY that pathetic and inflexible that they can't add more items (like the art shirts from the last few cons)?
