Agreed. The fact that a game this alt-heavy has ANYTHING character-bound is just insane.

I will post all my data I have, because I'm really not sure what I'm looking for. Thank you in advance and I do appreciate the help. Mind you, until a week or two ago I nevr had a problem with this and was playing just fine. The this error popped up.

Oh MY OS is windows 7 home premium 64-bit on an acer aspire 5552g

As I said in your other thread.
You are likely on the very latest version of the drivers for a specific ISV's version of the 6650M. Newer drivers may or may not be recognized.

It honestly doesn't matter if you're getting "Driver out of date" messages if your gaming is stable.

If you want to TRY to get onto the latest version of the AMD/ATI drivers (rather than your ISV's drivers), boot into Safe Mode.

    • Remove the drivers.
    • Reboot into safe mode and check it over with a registry cleaner or driver cleaner program.
    • Do a clean install of the later version of the ATI/AMD drivers.
    • Reboot into Windows normally.

I recommend having a copy of the ISV's driver bundle on the system just in case the AMD/ATI drivers don't find the graphics device.

Try giving your machine a good stiff reboot.
Then open up a command prompt and type
    Code:
    /ipconfig flushdns
    .
    Then try starting up again.

Another possibility is that you've got some sort of malware issue and something's set itself up as a proxy.

I've seen this argued on video game forums for years about varying framerates and frame flicker.

I'll say this again, "detection" is more than simply noticing the flicker of the shutters.

I've been running 64-bit Windows for pretty much the entire time I've been playing CoH. It runs it just fine. XP-64 could get finicky at times, but it was a nasty unwanted mutant stepchild of an OS anyhoo. Win7 runs the game just fine.

And while I normally don't recommend turning off security features, turning off UAC (User Account Control) does wonders for the system's friendliness and lack of hassles.

it is possible to play CoH in full 3D?... if so, what do i need to know or get to do this?

You would need to make sure the game can actually DO stereoscopic 3D.
I don't believe that CoH supports it.

Devs, you can help make this go away or help it be something which occurs less frequent.
Honestly, I could have told you the GMs would take this stance.

And I can see their point, as much as it sucks.

Taking sides, even the "right" side opens them up to liability. It also opens them up to having to wade through bogus claims as well.

The best thing you can do with this is quietly PM anyone who asks what this piece of trash's real global is so that he can be blacklisted permanently from anyone who'd ever make any more such transactions.

I hate to say it, but I'm betting you have one of those jacked-up "vendor-customized" jobbers.

Basically what some of the ISVs do is pay to have a "special" (in the negative connotation) version of the card made with custom firmware revs, cheaper construction, different RAM amounts, etc. The official drivers won't recognize them because they're essentially "one off" lots that the ISV has taken responsibility for (meaning they sell it, you buy it, and they do jack and **** in the way of actual support (because that would cost money) after).

  21. Have my flight and car booked.
Have my ticket to the event bought.
Rooming with TonyV, and he's taking care of the room reservations (I hope).

Flying in early Friday and leaving out Mid-day on Sunday.
The only later flight would have cost even more and would have gotten me back into Chicago after start of business on Monday. My bosses are understanding about me and cons, but they aren't THAT understanding.

I'll be traveling a lot over the next month and I'll have a lot of time sitting in hotel rooms with out much else to do. so I figured "what the hell..."

I left a little over 2 years ago, right around the time of I18 (I think it was just before, but i dont remember), and my question to you all is what do I absolutely need to try out? I'll have a couple of weeks (next week being the first) of pretty regular game time and I want to get the most out of the new (to me) content.

Let me know what you think and I hope to see you guys in game soon.
    One other thing as well.

The game has moved to a hybrid model.
So, if you decide you don't want to continue paying the $15/month, you can still play for free with certain limitations.

For what those limits are see here:

so I go to update the drivers and the websites I use say they are updated already..so I go to play..two times..both times not even ten minutes into playing, my computer blinks off. no warning, just instantaneous shut off.
a friend suggested yesterday uninstall the video card and reinstall..this takes all day as everytime I find a link to reinstall it, its a website where they want me to buy something...finally I call the laptop manufacturer, explain everything...their answer: its obvious its the games fault! I explain, AGAIN, I had NO problems playing until this week..now he wants me to do a complete system reboot. so i have a lot of stuff to save to discs before i do this though.

Is there any help you guys you can give me?

oh, also, I downloaded a catalyst control center, but it gave me an error that it couldnt find a proper graphics adapter.... *sighs*

sorry for any typos, grammar, spelling errors, not much sleep the last week.
    Okay, first off:

    Post the info back here.

So you've gone into Add/Remove programs and uninstalled pretty much ANYTHING that says AMD/ATI on it?

Links to current Catalyst drivers for HD Mobility 6***M series.

    64-Bit Windows Vista/7:
    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/c...4-bit_util.exe

    32-Bit Windows Vista/7:
    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/c...2-bit_util.exe

If you're on XP (which may be the issue), the ONLY place to get drivers is from the laptop manufacturer (which may be out of date).

If you can get the original drivers to reinstall, you can set up the launcher to just ignore the "out of date" warning. It's simply a detection routine to tell you your drivers are technically out of date. It doesn't mean the game isn't still playable.
  24. Okay you're on an Invuln tank.
Trying to build for recharge bonuses is pretty much pointless.
You wanna build for Defense Cap.
And don't futz with the "Psi Hole". You're NOT going to close it.
However, your AoE and Ranged defense should cover you sufficiently.

Take a look at Call_Me_Awesome's guide to Invuln tanks and the soft cap.

In the mean time, take a look at my current build.

With the Corsair liquid coolers, you'd have to be SERIOUSLY abusing your system (as in tossing it down stairs) before it pops a leak.

The pump dying is a valid concern, but I know of several people using H60 and H80 series coolers with no problems right now.

Additionally, with the thermal protection present in modern CPUs it's actually rather difficult to fry a CPU nowadays.
