My tanks are not Kender!
Oh. But you..uh..dropped this.
I was holding it for you! -

Quote:Okay, if you GOTTA have a toon with Afterburner on it, take a look-see at this:It's interesting. I always forget about the advantage E/NE cap has over F/C cap, honest to God! I had thought about it while making the build, but I changed my mind somewhy. But yeah, will make the changes, although I think I'll be reaching the golden 5 set rule

Afterburner: Concept reasons
I like the idea that the toon will have the ability to fly fast :3 Have thought about getting Hasten, but I kinda think I'll miss ResEl for it's slow resistance in the end game as well as the earlier levels, so if I'll take it, I'll have to figure something else out. Regarding Energy Punch, will I feel VERY nerfed not taking it? I expect to only play at a normal pace (No AV/GM soloing, likely no TF soloing either, unless I'd overrate myself), so I'd prefer not having to take it unless my performance will, somewhat, feel nerfed.
Well, I personally thought it'd be better with Leviathan, as it offers more AoE than Soul. Besides, among all things Energy Melee needs, I wouldn't say more ST damage is the thing.
Generally thanks for the reply, it's appreciated
45.3% S/L
41.5% E/N
44.0% F/C
67.5% Global Recharge (nearly equivalent to perma-Hasten)
Global +Acc isn't as impressive. But you should still be quite well off.
Slightly more exemp-friendly power choice order.

Have to solo whilst I'm at work. Not fair to get on a TF then have to AFK for 30-45 minutes in the middle.
This evening though I'm probably going to be TF'ing my brains out.
Okay! Okay! I'm going to be TF'ing the solid bone between my ears out!
There! HAPPY!?!?!?

Quote:I've just come back after a three year absence and right now the game is crashing more than it did during launch week 8 years ago.
Tonight I was trying to play a new character in Atlas Park and the game crashed five times in the first hour of play.
Is there some known bug where the game has issues with Nvidia 560 cards or is it something else?
At this point we REALLY need the information you can gain from reading this thread:

Bare descriptions of your hardware tell us exactly two things.

Quote:Actually that's a lie spread by Statesman.Blue Steel once punched a Rikti so hard that the mothership crashed landed in what we now call the Rikti War Zone.
Statesman didn't fly through the Rikti Mothership. Blue Steel punched him through it because he was in high form during the invasion and Statesman invaded his space... -
Sure, if you don't mind grinding the same toon for the entirety of your play time for weeks/months.
Something that's completely counter to what the devs are telling us is the intended style of play for anyone looking to make any sort of significant advancement in Incarnates power.
Grind trials. -
Quote:Disconnect the system from power, pop the sides and any filters and blast that sucker out with compressed air.Good point, that would be approx 6 months ago when I installed the graphics card.
You're probably sporting a nice insulation layer of dust in there.
Okay, 75 is "kinda" high. 84 is nuts. The fact that the video card is conking (more or less safely) at 96 is...Quote:I've ran the Speedfan tool (Thanks Manny, for pointing me in the right direction, and making me post in the correct forum). Unfortunatly I could not get it to read the voltage but running without ultra mode enabled, the temprature was steady at 75* C, but as soon as I enable Ultra mode the temprature jumped to about 84* C and then steadily continued to rise until the screens blacked out at about 96* C (I guess there is a fail safe switch on the graphics card?)
No, a bigger PSU won't really fix it. You WILL want to check that all your case, CPU, GPU, and PSU fans are actually working.Quote:So would it help to get a bigger PSU? (aka is that the issue?) And how much Watt should it take to make my graphics card comftorble?
What you need is more airflow on/around the video card.
You could add more case fans, or something like this. -
Basically the real reason you're concerned with wattage is your graphics card.
Most systems you could get away with a 300-400W PSU otherwise.
Check to see if your video card has any minimum recommendations for PSU strength.
The other thing you're concerned with is amperage on the rails and the total wattage it supports.
Most PSUs will have an informational sticker or specs someplace to tell you this:

Quote:Only for typed defense. Shield is a positional defense set. So you're more concerned with Melee/Ranged/AoE.Hello all.
I just read a very eye opening post on the advantages of softcapping Smash/Lethal defense, which means Kin Combats.
Pretty much every attack in the game has both a typed flag and a positional flag.Quote:My question is how does this apply to Shields. With Shields you softcap Melee defense, and ignore S/L which is good except that I understand that machine guns and their like can tatter Melee defense and bring it to it's knees...and S/L has the lion's share of damage type in game.
So, how does Shields and it's Melee defense survive S/L attacks???????? I know it does fine because my Elec/Shield's fav pasttime is fighting Romans and she has not a single S/L bonus....
Like Smashing/Melee or Energy/Ranged or Fire/AoE or any mix of any of the above.
When the attack comes in, the system takes your highest applicable defense number and uses that to calculate whether or not you were hit.
Say a Psi/Ranged attack comes in.
You have 12.3% Psi defense and 40% Ranged defense.
The system will use the 40% Ranged defense to calculate if you've been hit or not.
This is why Invuln tanks aren't so badly off with their "psi hole" as some would imagine.
Basically, all you need to do is understand which sort of defense your armor set utilizes then seek to maximize that.Quote:Unhappy sigh. I just do not understand the different defenses and how they work with the different secondaries.
Does City Of Heroes have some documentation that I can read about this subject?
Lisa-Deeply disturbed and wanting to understand -
Doing a little simple wattage calculation and yeah, you could be *just* exceeding 100% rating on the PSU.
On a slightly older system, even pushing into the 90-95% range could yield this kind of behavior.
You've probably gotten away with it this long because the PSU was just good enough to deal with long periods of near-max utilization. But, as the components aged, and you've beat on the system more and more...
One other thing. When was the last time you opened the case up and cleaned it out? -
Wish I could man. Wish I could.
But:
- This "extra" trip this year was already a budget stretch.
- My bosses need me back Monday morning and NOT late and NOT brain-fried.
- I'm relying on family to pick me up from the airport because parking, even only for 2 days at O'Hare is "Are you *PANCAKE* KIDDING ME?" expensive. I could afford a limo on that!
-
Quote:The problem with that plan is that most of the IOs that are in my build are already slotted on the character (all of the uniques, 4 Kinetic sets, etc) and to rebuild from scratch would be another billion+ inf that I don't have handy.
True. But the IO doesn't stop providing enhancement at -4 levels.Quote:Adding the Mako quad to what is already there adds 2.8% damage and shaves about 1 second from the CD. Helpful but not a game changer. Moving an extra slot to say.. Combat jumping adds 9% more to global accuracy which is probably a better call.
At cap, you're not going to see a situation like that very often.Quote:Two fold. First it lets me fly faster from place to place which while admittedly trivial is something I enjoy. Secondly, it acts as an "OH SH#$" button for when I stupidly let my Defense get DeBuffed to give me (hopefully) the 5-10 seconds needed for the healer to "fix" me and for my normal defenses to recover. I could go with SoW instead as my emergency button but this build is as much for my personal enjoyment as it is to functionality.
So you're investing in a power that sees limited utility. Like Unstoppable on a soft-capped Invuln.
As to the travel speed. Eh. To each his own.
If you're planning on doing no exemping, I guess you're fine. If you plan to exemp at all it's going to get painful below level 47.Quote:Slotted as it is, Rage is adding 25% toHit and I ~do~ already have one 9% global accuracy bonus tomyattacks however that being said I may do what I mentioned earlier and pull a slot from somewhere to add another LotG to Combat Jumping to add 9% more. -
Quote:I got an escort mission today and it took 15 minutes longer than it needed to.I am noticing that the DA arc's missions are HUGE. I mean the maps are ginormous! I have mine set to 1x1 and it takes me longer than I like to get them done. I did 2 missions today that took me all of my play time for the morning and I was expecting to get more done. I totally get what you're saying - it can take a long time!
Why? The escort was walking. Not sprinting. Not doing "stop-and-go". Walking.
Makes me want to find the person who checked the AI and beat them about the had and shoulders with a cattle prod. -
Quote:Hyper,
If I can find a deal at HH Gregg, I can pick one up in-store by Friday or Saturday morning, I hope. Never been there, but consider it a slightly cheaper Best Buy. If I'm ordering off of Newegg or Amazon, I think that this weekend may be a wash. But I'll live.
Would you guys mind if I showed you some potential options, in addition to the ones that you've posted already? Good, because I'm going to do it anyways!
(thanks for all the help again, all).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883227384 (I can deal with the stupid logo)
http://www.amazon.com/CyberpowerPC-G...1764617&sr=1-1
The first two I'm kinda "meh" on due to the fact that they're AMD FX.
Yeah, they're cheap. They're also going to underperform an i5 running at slower clock speeds.
The last I wouldn't touch because there isn't a breakdown of the actual hardware in the system.
If your choices at HH Gregg are the similar, I'm going to say "Just do yourself a favor and build".
Yes, your time is NOT worthless to you. But you're still going to wind up with a better system and better bang for your buck.
I hate to harangue you about it. But it's honestly how I feel. -
Quote:ACTUALLY, no. You don't.I didn't realize that.
So I take it that I need to respec the character at which point I can potentially select three new powers and that I will need to account for having to potentially spread slots out over three additional selections?
As an aside, how does Mids factor these inherent powers into a build? I didn't see them show up in the list of automatic powers at the bottom of the screen.
If you just want to start fresh and not reuse/destroy/de-slot anything, you can swap over to your second build. Then just level up according to your plan in Mids.
The populate with the IOs you want.
Here's my honest (if not humble) assessment of your second build.
Yank the extra slots out of boxing. Throw at least ONE into KO Blow. Throw something like the Mako Quad or a Crushing Impact Acc/Dam/Recharge in there.
Honestly NOT seeing the utility of Afterburner for you.
Yeah, it kicks your defense WAAAAAY up. But you can't attack anything and you're WP, so you can't hold anything for long with just your aggro aura. If you're looking to do something like straight-tank Lord Recluse, this isn't the way to do it.
The set bonus in BotZ? Not worth slotting for. Salvage the second slot for something else. You're already at fly cap, stick a Slow Resist (Winter's Gift) IO in there.
You don't have enough accuracy. Even with Rage up, you're STILL going to have problems hitting things when most of your attacks are at +22% Acc.
I'd recommend putting at least one Performance Shifter proc into either Stamina, Quick Recovery or Physical Perfection.
YES, you have recovery out the *PANCAKE*.
YES, your recovery can STILL be floored.
Don't have a build to toss back at you.
Oh, one more thing. Try to include the data chunk.
The data link from Mids doesn't survive a preview/edit.
This way if you go back and add something you forgot, the build doesn't become useless to people trying to dissect it. -
Quote:Unfortunately, none that'll get you a machine by Friday.Okay, so are there any computer companies that you guys recommend over others?
Anything that's an off-name house brand.Quote:Any to absolutely stay away from?
Not meant for gaming. Not really upgradeable. PERIOD.Quote:What do you think about All-in-One computers?
It's a laptop built with desktop components.
Stay away. Stay far away.Quote:I'm very hesitant about those, but that could be just because I've never owned one before. but they seem like they'd lack the customization capabilities of a desktop.
Don't know about HH Gregg. There's one in my area but I've never been there.Quote:But HH Gregg and Newegg look like they have some decent deals going on right now. I may need to replace the graphic card on some of them, but everything else looks good (and yes, I know that this would likely void the warranty and that I need to make sure the power supply is up to snuff).
Newegg, you'd probably be paying through the nose for express shipping. Even so, if you haven't ordered by now you're not going to have the system by Friday.
The driver difficulties aren't bad once you find a driver set that actually works for you.Quote:Also, most of the computers I'm finding have the Radeon cards. How bad are those issues?
All the pain, tears, and emotional scarring come from actually trying to find aforementioned "workable" driver versions. -
Yeah, people have been doing this for a while now.
Since Freedom, some of the PVP IO farmers have been getting fat (wallets). -
Quote:But ya know what? I actually had fun painting and putting the little buggers together. Granted, I've only got this, in terms of paints/figures so far, but it was fun putting them together.
I only wish that I wasn't as shaky as a jello mold in an earthquake.
I don't exactly have steady hands either.
Too much RSI and caffeine abuse.
That and I quite simply don't have the patience for painting.
Back when I first took up BattleTech minis, I made a couple attempts. But it quite quickly became:
- Spray primer
- Base color
- Quickie black wash
- DONE!

40K, the only game that brazenly puts the minimum pricing for a decent force on the game itself.
