Quote:If the money isn't there for it, take a look here:I think that's what I mean by tweaking. It sounds very similar to the Mac issue and probably that needs a similar "solution".
I'll see if I can get access to VS 2010 then.

My bosses keep fancy rats as pets.
The largest one they've ever had was a lab rescue.
We called her "Max" (and her runt sister, "Min").
Max was humongous by rat standards.
Most female rats weigh in at around 9 ounces.
Most of the rats my bosses have owned have been disgustingly healthy and large. Average weight 12-16 ounces.
We never really got a good weight on Max (she was too, pardon the expression, squirrely to stay seated on a scale), but she was easily half-again as big as the next largest rat they'd ever had. What's more, she had unusual upper body strength for a rat (who aren't known for it). She was actually able to pry the bars of her cage apart (though not enough to get out).
The thought of a 3 foot long rat is just...wow.
We always joke about the city rats here. You know, you're driving downtown around sunset, you flip your lights on and startle a rat that's dragging a VW beetle into the alley... -
Quote:Just say to yourself "EVERY nuke in Warburg."I so wish that that last cutscene of Wade and Lady Grey had sound effects... just to hear his choked-off gurgling scream as the screen abruptly goes black.
Yeah, baby.
And a cutscene of ALL the nukes going up at once? Would have been epic. Especially with your character standing there looking up as they launch, coz you could practically HEAR yourself thinking, "INCOMING!!!"

Think about the island being shrouded in a cloud of hydrazine fumes for the better part of an hour or more. Then, when they clear, the charred hamburger of an island remnant has been found to have raised a few inches from it's previous height above sea level... -
Quote:What I'm talking about isn't a redesign. It probably would. But management usually doesn't like redesigns, because it often takes a lot of manpower and doesn't add revenue. Making something that people will go and buy in the Paragon Market will keep the servers running and the salaries paid for another month.
Usually a redesign happens with a new version of the game.
It's basically code-level bughunting and code cleanup.
Fuzzing is essentially running the code and inputting random or deliberately wrong responses to see how the game acts, and to find places that it blows up the game so they can put controls on those inputs.
What I don't want to see is a "painted into a corner" variant of what happened to M2. Where they get to the point where further development merely breaks the game, with no possibility of a roll-back, because they're not properly maintaining the code.
It's even MORE fun when they don't document any of it. Or do it half-***.Quote:I make software for a living. It can become very complex very quickly, especially when performance is an issue and previous programmers have used all kinds of obscure tricks and shortcuts.

Quote:After this installment of SSA1, he's lucky if he still has bowel and bladder control...I think the real question we should be asking is does Wade have
Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve, & Talent
Okay, I'm NOT going to say that the end of SSA1 makes all the crap in the previous installments more bearable.
It doesn't.
That being said, the visuals in this issue were gobsmacking. This is where the money's been going people.
Now if the storytelling (and especially the marketing wonks) can catch up, it's all good. -
Quote:Or "not" marketed depending on the the various issues, as you noted above. And I personally think a good chunk of it has to do with how it was 'marketed',
Marketing for CoH has always been a little schizo. But this highlighted it will strobing, neon-pink, billion-candle lamps while a fleet of town criers took to the streets in PA-mobiles screaming "WE...ARE...SCHIZO!" before kicking a hospital full of shrinks into the pit of despair.
Hyperbolic?
Yeah.
But it paints the right mental picture about how bizzare CoH's marketing has been, especially lately. -
Quote:I just checked my NCSoft account.
As if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.
My payment went through at the beginning of the month.
You poor *AHEM* are stuck with me for another 14 months at least...

Quote:What REALLY needs to happen is at least a temporary suspension (or at least a marked slowdown) of new development while the game code gets a good "thrice-over" and has someone thoroughly fuzz the results.I've seen worse behavior than ever before with this game since issue 17, and especially issue 19, but, yes, it has been really odd since issue 22.
I find it hard to believe that a patch will solve the issues that this game has, especially without causing more, but it should "reduce the worst errors" to less often and/or less severe, though I bet they will still be present.
That isn't going to happen though. It can't. Paragon's built their workflow pipeline for ship-and-patch. And it's going to keep going that way until the game crashes down around their ears. -
Quote:Not necessarily.
Seriously, an older game should be performing much better on newer systems, or not performing at all. If it works at all then newer more efficient hardware and software(such that we should have now and arguably do have) will run the game better than ever.
You have your operating system, drivers, the game, etc, etc.
Millions of lines of code.
All of it written at various points in time to conform to system specs that quite possibly no longer exist (if they ever existed for more than a few months at all).
Plus patches upon patches upon patches for all of the above.
Never mind the 32-to-64-bit transition. Some people will tell you something like that is trivial. Sure. NOW.
Not to mention that while basic x86 emulation still exists, that processors and GPUs are a whole 'nother animal than they were back in 2004.
The fact that it works as well as it does says surprisingly good things for an 8 year old game made for a deprecated OS.
And on a strict performance angle.
Please don't try and pretend you were running at 1920x1080 in Ultra Mode at 30-60 FPS back in 2004. Or even 1600x900.
Drop to 1024x768 and toss your quality slider back to Recommended, and check your framerates. Then tell me how "bad" this "old" game performs.
Not trying to be a "dev apologist" here. But claims about how such and such SHOULD perform, because it's an "old" product on "new" hardware is ignoring (or ignorant of) the fact that code only plays "nice" with other code because someone puts an absolute ASSLOAD of work into it. That sorta thing irritates the crap outta me, so I'm sorry if you're the one getting the ****kicker to the nethers here, but YOU put the nethers there to be ****kicked. -
Quote:No, you don't know that. Several people having old/incompatible drivers might all crash. That's still you. And them. I'm not saying that's what's going on, but lots of people having the problem doesn't automatically make it "not you".
An entire team might still be "drivers" and stuff and a really bad confluence.
When an entire 16-24 man league *crashes*, it strains credulity that it could "just" be 16-24 people, all with a bad driver/system confluence that just HAPPENED to all conk simultaneously.
Blowing up EVERYONE in Talos Island when summoning Adamastor.
Yeahno.
The game has been extra-special flaky since i22 with a couple things creeping in even after that last big patch.
HOPEFULLY the next patch or two will stabilize some of this bad behavior. -
If it runs the way the rest of it ran it's going to be one part *meh* and about seven trillion parts *WTF?*
And if you're a hero, it'll be seven trillion and one parts *WTF?* -
Well, got the base editing bug again and rebuilt my workshop again.
Went from a split level to a cush 3.5 level shop.
Still a little rough, and I'm not sure what I'm going to do with all the floorspace yet..
The Shift trick did save me on a couple occasions.
Mis-clicks had me accidentally dragging desks out of the floors, and if you use floor tiles to rapidly place desks, it always seems to lock on the second from the top-right corner if you fill it up too much.
Being able to now hover a desk over the hole then just lower it into place...
Not having to take half a floor apart because of a mistake?
YES PLEASE!

The floors aren't QUITE right (so I'll probably wind up ripping it up again). But a max-height character (like Hyperstrike) can run through the area without hitting their head (thank god, I look stupid in a crash helmet).
The hardest part is trying to NOT get screamingly bored while placing all those damn desks. -
Quote:Because I don't always remember that.Er, why would you use accnt lamps when the Shift key let's you loft floor items directly?
I mean, I can see using a Floor Tile to make repositioning the cubicle easier, but the days of floor safe or accent lamp lofting are over, man.

Me poor brain is topfull of useless trivia! One more piece and it's going to explode out me ears! -
Quote:Pretty much. Either buy them and convert or have an Inspy storage there.
So then it heals 35%. Still not very much. And you don't have a nurse to buy insprirations. Even when you unlock the Auto-doc and the combat logs, you don't get a full selection of inspirations like a Hospital Nurse sells, right? There is no way to buy an Awaken or Damage/Accuracy/Defence inspiration in a base, as far as I could gather.
Nice looking base by the way -
Quote:Here's my video walk-through on how to stack out from a wall with a cubicle. So that's how you get the beacons on the telepads themselves.
You just align the surface of the cubicle with where you want the back of the beacon to go.
You can raise cubicles using the using the Accent Lamps.
Here's the link to a quick walk-through on the cubicle trick, and then showing how to stack the cubicle with a lamp.
Right now (11:40 AM Central) it's still processing (I just uploaded it). But give it about 10-15 minutes for YouTube to gnaw on it and it should be working. -
I just ignore the "Ultimates" universe.
It's basically just a seething mass of stupid...squared. -
Quote:The Robo Surgery plans. The robo Surgeon/Spirit Signal boosts the reclaimator/healing circle healing by 10%.The med bay never puts you at full health unfortunately but it can be convenient say like on a taskforce/strikeforce when you want to pop in and fill up on better grade inspirations then the venders offer you. Also, upgraded medbays CAN hold storage devices as well such as inspirations or even salvage if you wanted to. Though you are right it isn't necessary. I forgot what SG badge it is but one of the healing badges does give you an item you can craft that gives a boost to how much that thing heals.
Other then that advice, for a starting base your looking great! It's got all the essential things that you really need to make the base run efficiently.
As time goes on and you earn more prestige you'll be able to upgrade and do things you want to do. I always suggest getting tours of other base builders bases. We builders LOVE showcasing our work and its a wonderful way to come up with ideas and share them in return. Most base builders are very helpful!
Keep up the good work! -

Quote:No. Wrong.Read what I posted before your comment. This is my idea which cannot be explained fully through typing.
If it is so obtuse of an idea that you can't even express it properly and in a meaningful matter to another person how in the hell do you expect a Dev to pick something up and run with it? -
Quote:You can put all the lipstick you want on this pig. It's still going to be a pig.Lol Well said but you are as wrong as right. The no TP thing was to prevent Incandescent and any other TP to TP from the hospital to the other side, therefore rezzers are a must. OF COURSE travel powers would be excluded. Logic is understanding and you definitely do not have my understanding, that's my fault because I'm not giving all the information on each detail.
Then let them go play a console shooter.Quote:And yes, the mediocre players of this world like button mashing. Actual gamers enjoy more sophisticated play.
And you're missing the basic point. There IS NO SANCTUARY.Quote:And you completely missed when I said "cell" meant his sanctuary. The same as Faathim and Lanaruu. If you're going to argue right then read and understand what it is about.
Rularuu is essentially a stand-in for Ymir. He's not any one place. He essentially IS the Shard.
Sure it will end. Either you'll figure out where your ideas run headlong into Shard canon and completely break, or we'll get disgusted with explaining it to you over and over again and stop repeating ourselves.Quote:This argument will never end because we both think we are smarter than the other.
We're not saying "no" to just say no.Quote:And we both know no one really needs falsification and suggestions only help the devs if this catches their eyes. So let's do everyone a favor and just not argue and improve this concept, or shut up, instead of saying "NO."
We're saying "no" because your idea has some technical and canonical holes in it big enough to steer a colonial fleet through. -
Quote:No. The shard IS is prison. As in they entire frickin' thing IS Rularuu. There's no "cell" someplace with Rularuu locked behind a door. He's behind the walls, under the floors and above the ceiling.2) I know it's his prison and since it IS a prison there has to be a place he hangs out to keep spies or whatever from spying (to make it logical since it isn't reality and it's not thought through that far) so the "cell" is basically a room. The Chantry and the Storm Palace aren't cells either, they are fortresses as is Rularuu's place of protection from Lanaruu and others.
And penalizes those who use TP as their travel power. NO.Quote:3) The no teleport thing teaches the league to come prepared and spam heals. It's a strategy.
Uhm. NO. Mindless button mashing isn't fun. And you're not qualified to state what "the majority's" tastes are by failure of the "are you, yourself a majority?" acid test.Quote:4) The more action the more fun it wil be, that's the majority's taste.
That doesn't mean we should welcome it or worse, beg for it.Quote:5) Anything at this point can be a "bigger, cheatier version of Hami" We are talking about a being that destroys universes and according to the Ouroboros guys it will be Paragon City's only chance against the Coming Storm, so even in reality he is a bigger, cheatier version of Hami
I see the thought process. That doesn't mean it's "logic". It simply means you've constructed an idea chain. It doesn't mean it's a "good" idea chain. And it doesn't mean it's going to result in something people are going to want to run.Quote:6) You didnt even look through the logic in this and you immediately thought I'm a young brat who says "oooo this is cool" without thinking. There is more to this I didn't mention that you don't see and it's not worth mentioning now.
Okay, standard code rant.Quote:7) I don't know anything about animating and I doubt you know enough either but as I see in Dual Blades/Pistols and Staff Melee, it can be done. The EAT are also for F2P, these archtypes are going to be a lot more rewarding to get and a lot harder so not going to see many of them very often.

Essentially you're suggesting the devs put a bunch of work into completely duplicating just about every animation in the game to a brand new player rig. They've already come out and flat SAID it's not happening anytime soon.
Good luck with that. -
Quote:Still won't get you around really REALLY nasty debuffs (like BP Sorrows in DA) and lucky hit streaks. The stuff ripping you up from ranged is likely Energy/Neg...if you could get S/L/E/N softcapped that would take care of most of that...
Defense is really nice but sometimes it can be REALLY binary. Either you're fine or you're dead. Ask SOAs and Shield tanks taking off-type damage.
I've been running around with Incarnate cap on all six types on an Invuln tank and had L51 Rikti mobs hack me down in a minute.
And running around +2x8 in DA, if a Pantheon mob has any Sorrow-types in it, I have to beat them down immediately while popping barrier to keep my defense propped or I'm dead. I'd be cruising along at 60% defense, then it's 32, then it's six, then negative. Then I'm dead...
This was happening regularly last night (3/24). I could (and basically DID) go AFK with the an EB Manifestation of Mot for roughly 20 minutes with my health bar only dropping about 5%.
But those Sorrow BPs were just wrecking the crap outta me. -
