Haven't touched him yet. Still recovering from the awesome of the Summit (and back to the daily grind that's punishing me for actually daring to take a couple days off).
  4. If you could post your HijackThis log (Follow the links in my sig image), that'd go a long way towards us diagnosing something in your operating system environment.

Your hardware doesn't appear to have anything that just jumps out and screams "I'm wrong! WRONG WRONG WRONG!" at us.

Honestly, for a 32-bit OS, I really don't recommend dropping less than 4 in nowadays. Even if the OS won't use it all.

And for a 64-bit gaming box, I figure 8 is a minimum. The price reduction between 8 and 4 GB is miniscule.

, is SB vs IvB. There's not a huge performance difference, and SB, from what I've heard, overclocks better than current IvB parts. If you're not going to overclock quite a bit or depend on the iGPU, don't go with a 'k' part when choosing a SB CPU (those are the only benefits for it). The 'k' IvB parts get a bonus 100MHz over their non-K cousins, so there's a slight benefit for non-overclockers as well.
Actually the Ivy Bridge systems OC fine. Just not to the extent thant Sandy Bridge systems do (yet). A lot of this is likely BIOS-related. A bit of time and a little BIOS-update-mojo, and people should be fine.

Moreover, most of the instabilities for OC'ing are coming when you're going for very high-end overclocks (like trying to reach 5Ghz). Lighter overclocking (like trying to reach 4-4.5Ghz) are relatively effortless.

    Inv/TW Tank help

Okay, I know Invuln like the back of my hand. TW I'm not so intimately familiar with. But still.

Also, to be clear, the build I'm posting up is intended as a FINALIZED build.
NOT a leveling build. If you try to level up using this build life is going to suck for you so badly that you'll be able to rent it out as a vacuum cleaner.

Also, this is a rough build that could probably take some tweaking for powers order and the like.

Oh yes. And this build is by no means "cheap".

Then again, you simply specified "Awesome".

  8. Question, are you going to be doing any uber-stupid overclocking?

If not, just go with the 3570K
  9. Sorry. I know some people are enthusiastic about the new images.
But it screams "WoW", not "CoH".

    If it's a choice between #1 and #2, I choose neither.

Yeah. But Dark also has a damage aura to help keep enemies "interested". Invuln doesn't.

Cooler master CM690 II case (Suddenly out of stock, but I don't imagine that will last long. I wasn't going to order until next week anyway.)
CORSAIR Professional series 650W power supply
    ASRock Z77 Extreme6 LGA 1155 motherboard
    Intel Core i5-3570K processor
Cooler master Hyper 212 cpu cooler
G.SKILL Ares 8GB ram (went for some with no protruding heat sinks)
EVGA GTX 569 Ti video card
    Seagate Barracuda 1TB hard drive

Is there anything wrong with this, as far as anyone can tell?

I still need to decide on a monitor, keyboard, and maybe headset (already have mouse, speakers, and copy of windows 7). Monitor I'm just looking for a decent, fairly big (20"+) lcd. Last time I had this monitor, which seemed to be pretty nice. I was thinking of just getting the same one again for simplicity, unless anyone has any better suggestions. I specifically *don't* cate about 3d or any of that.

Keyboard, when the rig was stolen I had *just* gotten a microsoft sidewinder x4 to replace the cheap generic I had destroyed with a glass of pop. I originally chose it for the anti-ghosting, since the generic had the annoying habit of not recognizing the 3rd keypress if I tried to hold down (for example) shift, s, and a (which got me killed on occasion in games like counter-strike since it's useful to be able to walk on the diagonal while sneaking). I was also hoping, though, that the macro keys would help alleviate some of the power overload I run into on high level characters here in CoH by mapping them to something like control+(1-5), but in the few days I had to play with it I found them a bit far from wasd to actually comfortably hit in combat. It's still a good anti-ghosting keyboard for about the right price, the extra features (while not quite as good as I had been hoping) are still useful, and I'd definitely buy it again if nothing better comes along. I'm curious, though, if anyone has any experience with any other gaming keyboards that they particularly like (especially ones with anti-ghosting or easy to hit macro keys).

Finally, headset/microphone. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a decent, reasonably cheap headset with microphone that won't fall apart after a couple months. I had in the past a cheap radio shack headset which was nice and comfortable, but the mic died. Does anyone know what the *good* brands are in terms of reliability/comfort/etc?

On the monitor. Maybe take a look at this one from Asus.
For a keyboard, I recommend the Logitech G510. The programmable G-keys are a godsend, as is the ability to script out your keyboard any frickin' way you want.
Moreover, you can plug your headset directly into the keyboard.

Speaking of headset. Here's the headset I use.

Sure, it's not soft-capped. But with the rarity of the damage type, it isn't that huge a deal and it should be enough to keep you durable even on Rikti Mothership raids or charging Carnies.

As to when to take Sky Splitter. Yeah. Like I said, this was just a brute force build with all the appropriate powers taken in a semi-workable progression. Not necessarily the BEST order.
  15. Hasten on most of my toons that have it.
I REALLY wouldn't put Secondary Mutation on Auto.

  17. Wait. Stealth?

    On a...TANK?

Nononono. That's going to completely murder your aggro control.

I'm more inclined to the brute force approach.

If these were the traditional XP Boosters like what I get out of my veteran rewards, where they slap on Patrol XP which I can make use of whenever I god damn feel like it, I might have, but I didn't see any of those. I didn't exactly search hard, but I didn't see any for sale.

Plus, I get four stacks of 5 traditiona XP boosters for free on every character.
Just an FYI. The boosters only measure "in-game" time.
So if you're not logged in, you're not "wasting" anything.

Actually it's safer than doing it on a monitor with 60Hz refresh.

And at 4' you might be a BIT close, but it shouldn't have you going gonzo with your peripheral vision. I'm at about 2' with my 24".

With a 40" monitor, sitting at 4' should give you roughly the same viewing angle I have without eye strain.

I suggest you ACTUALLY take a look at Dull Pain in Regen and Invuln before spouting this crap.

Both of them are Self-Heal +Max Health (Which affects regen rates).
Neither of them do a single damn thing to affect Resistance.

So you were just blurting out a group of words you heard that didn't make any sense?
No. Making a point that you're arguing that you're putting forth an only slightly less (and less intentionally) ludicrous version of the selfsame argument.

Because no one was pointing at your examples and making any judgements until you demanded them to be with a rhetorical.
Yet you proceeded to try and dissect them anyhow. Then when you got slapped down for missing the fact that they and the rhetorical question were solely designed to point out the silliness of your own argument, you continued to argue them anyhow and try to simply roll over it.

    Bravo!

    Quote:
But to answer the rhetorical anyway, yeah, it is absurd because it has nothing to do with the subject at hand.
No. "You" fail to recognize that the argument itself DOES, in fact have something to do with the subject at hand.

You're arguing the two sets are too similar, based almost entirely on a single power, therefore there's no reason for the newer set.

I simply tossed that broken logic back in your face.

Nobody really likes having that done to them. So I can see why you're being nasty about it though. It doesn't mean I'm going to let you simply continue pretending you have some moral, philosophical or logical high ground here.

    You don't.

I found a lamented chart in the back seat pocket of the cab listing approximate fares to what must have been 4 dozen cities and towns around SF. Our ride took a little more than half an hour and the base fare came to a tad under $74, so plus 50% made the total almost $111. Of course, then we added a tip on top of that. Was a nice driver, though.

For the return ride, Dinah's front desk said they could make arrangements with a Towncar to pick us up on the morning. The front desk person said it would cost about $85. Woot! Cheap! But the driver said $95 (plus tip). Oh, well.
Yeah. I got wanged that way coming back to Chicago by cab once. The suburb I live in is one of the "Tier 3" neighborhoods. Where they charge 50% more and expect a tip.

This is why I had my brother drop me off and pick me up. I gave him $30 for gas, paid the tolls and he was good with it.
