Quote:Correct, though as I recall sometime after he was thawed out in the comics, the military crunched the numbers and figured out how much back pay he was owed. It was quite a significant sum as I recall.
A captain...with 60+ years time-in-grade. I don't think the payscale actually goes that high and he'd probably have capped out (heh heh) after about 25 years.
*Checks* Yep. An O3 with 26+ years in pulls a WHOPPING $6136/month in 2012. -

Quote:Well, he's supposed to be in Spider-Man in July.Again, even if he was killed, Coulson wasn't Jossed. Jossing if very specific and it's not just a popular character dieing. It's suddenly dieing right after something good happens. Tara in Buffy Jossed but not Anya. Wash in Serenity Jossed, but not Book. The character is there one moment, SNAP, gone.
Coulson lingered, taunted his "killer" and shot him well after the fatal blow was delivered and even hung on long enough to chat up Fury when he arrived minutes later.
Of course all the scenarios chatted up here would make total sense from LMD to life saving surgery. Also kudos to Caemgen on the "Shield has a great medical plan." as his opening line upon his reappearance, brilliant.
So two months for a through-and-through sucking chest wound like that?
SHIELD's medical plan would be nice indeed! -
Quote:Alexis Denisof was The Other (the dude with the two thumbs and bloody teeth, the one reporting to Thanos).Holy guacamole!
I had no idea that the actor playing Thanos was Alexis Denisof (Wesley from BTVS and Angel)!
The guy portraying Thanos was Damion Poitier. -

Quote:Well, there IS the whole subplot of Thanos *actually* being in love with Death (as in the entity itself). Talk of "courting death" could probably be enough to setting Thanos to snerking. It would be more in keeping with his core character if the smile he cracks at the end when he's told that to continue to throw himself at the humans "is to court death" implies that Earth actually became interesting to him at that moment, specifically because they have the potential to be huge agents of chaos and death under the right conditions.

Quote:Kitt: And I thought *I* had it bad...you poor sod!Maybe Tony could go to an A.A. meeting and Hasselhoff would be there.
Also I am now picturing Iron Man's movie armor with J.A.R.V.I.S voice damaged or replaced and now sounds like KITT......
J.A.R.V.I.S.: Please. Do NOT get me started... -

Quote:May the next Avengers movie have cameos by the cast of Firefly/Serenity
Adam Baldwin as some grizzled SHIELD agent (a'la Casey/Jayne), cleaning a weapon and griping about how it sucks to be SHIELD, talking about traveling the world, meeting interesting people and then killing them...then concluding that he LOVES working for SHIELD. -
Quote:I want to see this, but I'll wait until it comes out on iTunes. I don't think anything short of a Superman, Justice League, or Star Trek film could make me go to a movie theater again.
I really wish cell phone jammers were legal.
See an early matinee on Saturday. I hit a second showing and while there were a lot of people in the theater, nothing like opening night. -

I don't know that it's a "leak". It may just be that they're trying to normalize the behavior of all costume items so that they don't have to deal with multiple states:
- Owned and show
- Unowned and hide (for collectors' edition stuff)
- Unowned and show for purchase

Quick physics lesson.
- The Cap's inertia is separate from that of his shield.
- And, while the shield might absorb the impact, that's only HALF the equation. We then have two possiblities:
- The shield absorbs the impact and simply becomes identical (from an impact standpoint) with the ground. Think "collision with a tree"
- The shield reflects the impact (like it did with the hammer) and "rebounds" since there's nothing actually bracing it. Think "head on collision of two cars".
Cap would still be traveling at roughly terminal velocity. And while the backside of the shield would absorb/redirect the impact too, it's no better than the ground at doing so. Cap's body would STILL have to find some way to impart all that inertial energy. And it's not going to do it in a uniform way.
In either case, the dear Captain would likely splash all over the inside of his shield upon impact. -

Also make sure it's not a connecting room for something that'd be disconnected after moving it.

Quote:As much as I love Avengers, I don't know that it's going to.According to wikipedia, Avatar made about $2.8 billion in the box office. Should be interesting to see how badly Avengers trounces Avatar's record.
Avatar opened over the winter holiday season with pretty much NOTHING to trip up its run. So it was able to hold top stop for longer, generating buzz for doing so and driving more people to the theaters.
We're starting into Summer Blockbuster season here.
Even if Baytleship doesn't dent the earnings, MiB will.
Then Prometheus is probably going to hit it as well, a month out.
Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter could go either way.
Brave is a Pixar flick. It's going to do well, at the expense of its competition.
New GI Joe flick will whittle off some.
Then we're into July and it's all about Spidey up front, followed by Batman at the end of the month.
Thinking Avengers will probably land in the solid 1-billion territory though. Which, for the first blockbuster of the summer of blockbusters is an ADMIRABLE place to be. -
Quote:Cap's outfit was always kinda "meh". From the front he looks like Captain America. From the back, he's a guy in blue spandex and the effect ain't all that flattering. Chalk it up to being one of those things that's easier to realize in a comic book than in real life.I know its heresy, but I havent seen this killer movie yet. A couple of questions...
1) Just looking at pic stills, does Cap's outfit look pretty meh?
2) Did Ruffalo do a better Dr Banner than Norton?
As for "better" than Norton? Couldn't say.
Norton had an entire movie to flesh out a heroic, expressive Banner.
Ruffalo was portraying a more diffident, emotionally damaged and isolated Banner.
Much closer to the 616 rather than the emotionally crippled "Ultimate" Banner in 1610. -
One thing. At that level, with as few defenses as you have, I'd put an EndRed into Combat Jumping. You lose less than half a percent of defense and you're mitigating resting end consumption.
